    JP saved my life twice. First through diet. Autoimmune disorders were causing me severe mental distress, and I learned of the carnivore diet from JP which rectified that. And his book and lectures helped me find purpose in life, before then I had lived a self destructive lifestyle because I saw no future. He gifted me ambition, and that helps me better myself every day. How do you thanks someone that rescues you from misery twice, and you haven't even met them.

He wanted to raise me as a traditional man of faith and value, after his death I was introduced to bad ideas culminating in college rejecting everything my upbringing stood for, then a nihilistic life after college that consisted of work and having “fun”. Then in my late 30s I watched JP’s interview with Cathy Newman, read his book and binge watched and listened to I think everything from him that’s public. Shapiro is no giant or wise man. He has a small, cynical view of the world and he analyzes everything about life with that sort of disdain. He markets a dated conservatism to a naive audience that still buy into almost all of the establishment tropes, at the end of the day he is nothing more than a salesman and will not take a stand on any issue that could actually hurt his business model. Peterson has a truly unique balance of effective communication and depth that have made him something special. Even worse, he actively engages in cancel culture despite being one of its primary critics. @@milo_thatch_incarnate I would also add that “disagreeableness” is great when it comes to being mamma bear or not tolerating someone bad mouthing your husband or something.
      What’s interesting is how nuanced Christian marriage (i.e. relationship) advice actually is. On the one hand, it lays out a certain patriarchal structure (hang with me, here...) with the man/husband as the head. But the temptation to tyranny/abuse of strength is tempered by the admonition to essentially lead by sacrificing yourself for the good of your family in imitation of Christ. On the flip side, it admonishes women to be submissive to their husbands (i.e. accept their authority and support them). Sounds kinda mewling and whimpy until...
      It says that iron sharpens iron. So basically, it’s equal dignity, different roles, male headship, female support, but support doesn’t mean “without challenge”, all nestled under the command to “love one another as I have loved you”.
      It’s beautiful. It’s perfect. But not always easy.

      But _really studying_ Proverbs 31 largely led to my wholehearted acceptance of God's originally designed gender roles, because the "woman after God's own heart" of Proverbs 31 is a business woman herself! It is a constant struggle against our society (as evidenced by every grocery store comment we receive). I do actually believe the feminine “divine” has been on display quite clearly all along in Ruth, Abigail, the Proverbs 31 woman..with Mary clearly stating it “behold the handmaiden of the Lord; let it be done to me as you say” and even in Mr. Darcy and Caroline Bingley’s description of an accomplished woman “I rather wonder now of you knowing any.” The feminine divine is always industrious, diligent and flourishing in her submission. I'm a woman in my 50s and, when I was younger, I was definitely treated as lower in society than the men around me. So for my whole life, I've fought for equality with men and the ability to do and be what ever I wanted. But along the way, I also fell for the myth that these differences were because women chose to be mothers which made them lesser than men. "I'm just a stay at home mum" was something I heard far too often in a disparaging way. Thanks to these 2 men, I've had my eyes open to how much I'd been led down the wrong path. Motherhood is the ultimate role for women, not the least valuable role. It's too late for me to have kids, and I definitely don't regret that as I've had an amazing life without them. But I do now look at life very differently and am helping all the young women I know to question societal rules and open their hearts to find the truth that resonates for them. Thank you.

    • @anolisa1939
      @anolisa1939 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There is no ultimate role for women…or for men. I find this line of thinking particularly bothersome coming from those that insists we treat people as individuals, and not judge them as members of groups based on immutable characteristics. If it’s “racist” to assume a man is a criminal because he is black (13% of population), Then what would you call a person telling 50% of the population that their ultimate role in life is to become a breeder? Maybe that’s true for you, or even true for most women…but certainly not all. The best thing we can do is to treat women as individuals, and let them make their own decisions…which thankfully, is the current status quo (barring Texas, and Mississippi).

      @@anolisa1939 This is interesting and like Ben mentions in the video, the woman is called in Hebrew ezer (helper/there is even a “deliverer” aspect to it as God is usually Israel’s ezer in a time of need ) kenegdo (his opposite/or his match). Adam names the animals and finds not a ezer kenegdo, so he makes one from him. God had to make a match equal to him to be his partner, as everything else was unfit.
      Genesis 1 even calls the man AND the woman made in the image of God. It is the unity of man and woman that more accurately reflect God. Together they rule over creation as God’s stewards, the man has his own strengths but so does the woman. She reflects God in a way man can’t, and is why God even compares his love and loyalty to Israel to a mother who will not leave her new born child. Women image God in ways men can’t but it’s the pair that better reflect him and rule correctly. Like a yin and yang. Think of parenting, a child needs both the mothers nurturing ability (generally) with the father’s strength and leadership for healthy development.
      That’s only the beginning in Genesis 1 & 2 but it doesn’t stop as Genesis 3 reveals another aspect of their symbiotic rule of the earth.
      In ch. 1 God tells humanity to “be fruitful and multiply”. This does not mean to only have babies. Their job as God’s imagers were/are to rule over creation under God’s wisdom. The man’s “fruitfulness” was his labor, working the ground. The woman’s “fruitfulness” was her ability to bear children. Not saying this was all men and women are good for but this is a general picture of the couple living in symbiosis spreading the garden, which was their calling (spreading God’s rule to the ends of the earth). This is clear as when man and woman sin by eating the fruit, they cover themselves up (intimacy lost), and are cursed. The curses are to the woman: PAIN in child bearing and a desire to rule her husband (so a power struggle from then on)
      And to the man: ground is cursed because of him and he will work the ground in PAIN.
      Notice the hindrance to be fruitful in their respective fields (pain to be fruitful to both). Their sin hindered their ultimate calling, and their relationship took a blow. I’ma just stop now but there’s so much.
