- PART 2 OUT NOW: • Can You Beat Terraria ...
Terraria's progression is one of the most essential parts of the game. Beating different bosses unlocks different areas and items, which makes you stronger. In this run however, all of that can essentially be forgotten. Almost every item I use in this video is obtained from a chest, and because most of the chests in this game are found in early prehardmode, I will be severely underpowered for literally the entire run.

You placed a Shadow Candle and then got eaten by worms.
The Shadow Candle negates all secondary spawning restrictions for most enemies (such as worms not spawning if you're standing in front of a player-placed background wall)
After I was done editing I figured that must've been what it was. Usually I don't bother with the shadow candle but I wanted skeleton merchants to not affect rates. Thanks man
@@isloths Skeleton Merchant is actually not considered a town NPC, so Shadow Candles don't affect his spawn reduction anyway - killing him with dart traps is the only effective method
@@Starwort Thing is, dart traps would instantly activate any biome mimics, therefore being out of the question.

@@Starwort for some parts he did change the local biome using corrupt/hallow/crimson blocks, and biome mimics dont give a damn if the block they're spawning of is or isnt a biome block like ebonstone or pearlstone, as long as the Biome is the type of biome they spawn in, they can and will spawn, making mimic activation methods such as dart traps rather risky, since it will also trigger biome mimics, as seen in the video.
TL;DR
Yes they did make the biomes different, specifically for biome keys and souls.
Yes they did have dart traps running, causing the biome mimic(s) that spawned to aggro on him.
Yes this issue is easily solved by not having those traps running when doing a evil/hallow sesh in this farm design.

Boulder trapped chests be like:
30 seconds in and I'm subbed
tip: if you play on the drunk world you can get moon lord legs form chests and they give you 3 defense its not much but for this you may want to make a new drunk world to get them then hop back to your main world
And extra mobility
And both world evils, and red's potion, and an underground dungeon entrance resulting in dungeon enemies filling the entrance, and worse music in my opinion (otherworld music is hit or miss, and when it hits it still just doesn't really feel like terraria music)

@@Ghostcat101 didn't think of that but to me world hopping never felt like the cleanest method to do something and only reserve it for when I'm at my limit with a task, more power to you if you have a different view but I feel like he would agree as he's not even allowing armor to stay pure to the challenge

man, that montage when you were fighting the 3rd stage of the Twins felt magical, with the music, the view of the moon right at the top of the screen, and the boss relentlessly firing at you
Very good video. I love watching the challenge runs by casual players but there's something distinctly satisfying about a run by a player who very clearly knows the game. It was honestly a delight to hear you say "but asphalt might be too overpowered" because so many other youtubers will struggle and struggle without even building an arena. It's very fun to watch someone who really knows the ins and outs of it
The pre hardmode gear against the mechs was crazy, one thing id do differently is use the aqua scepter against the destroyer, because its really surprisingly good against it specifically
Honestly, bcuz you can’t use mage armor or the mana flower accessory, I feel like just being able to hold down left click without having to use mana potions would be invaluable, especially when on a time limit.
@@codenameloser8488 exept if you follow just the initial challenge idea of getting gear from only chests, you can get the full meteorite armor pre-boss, since it can be found in low lava layer chests

@@Drianikaben the armor only needs bars, and as I mentioned the initial challenge was only chest loot only, and the armorless challenge was on top of that as a personal challenge, since it is not mentioned in the title or description as apart of the main challenge.
@@b0ne_r3aper78 I thought it was pretty obvious he wasn't able to craft items out of the chest loot. He had to use what he found from chests.
so i'm 3 minutes in and wanted to think through this run myself real quick:
So your best weapon being the Hellwing bow for mechs and plantera is really bad, but managable with a bit of skill, and your best arrows are Frostburn arrowns, with Ice torches and wooden arrows from ice chests, meaning you really need to save up arrows, then getting to the shadow key, probably Snowball cannon with getting snow balls through shimmer from the Ice Chests themselves, or getting the Space Gun from meteorite found in the lava layer chests and no Boomstick is not an option since you can not get bullets from any chest.
so that for the most part solves the PH and early HM weapon situation, but what about the accessories and armor, well the best armor you can get is Meteorite armor from lava layer gold chests and shadow chests a bit later, and basic PH ore armors can be used to fill the missing parts while looking for them. As for accrssories well if we allow goblin tinkerer and the tinkerer's workshop you can get Dunerider Boots and the Bundle of Horsesho Balloons, but the Bundle is very rare to get, since Pyramids aren't garenteed to even generate, and might not have the correct loot, and you'd need really insane luck with getting 3 Red Shiny Balloons in 1 world, as well as the possibility to get Fledgeling Wings as a 1/40 chance, which are ok enough with a few double jumps to easily handle the Mechs and plantera, then obviusly you get the Cobalt Shiled, Band of Regen and such, so while lacking in a lot of ways with great luck you can get good enough mobility to beat the game relatively easily.
and now for the Biome chest weapons after Plantera, well all except the Rainbow Gun are viable, though the Desert Tigre Staff does suffer from you not getting extra minion slots, but it's still decent ai makes it a good minion to use. Next the Frost Hydra Staff is an excelent Sentry with homing and high base damage, so it's a no brainer use. Vampire Knifes are the Vampire Knifes which is probablt the best support weapon in the game right behind the golden shower, and the Scourge of the Corruptor is a fantastic semi-homing source of dps, and the best option for Moonlord himself, but over all i think the Pirahna Gun is gouing to be better for most other Bosses, since you can purliy focus on dodging after the 1st hit, and it deals really good damage if it lands all of the Pirahnas.
So would this run be hard? Absolutly, since actually having Good Mobilty is entierly luck dependent, and weapons really struggle in the early HM to Plantera area, but at least you have the decent weapons from the biome chests to work with.
You can't use frostburn arrows, it is crafting, not getting from chests
@@Snackeroid the run doesn't ban crafting it just limits your way of getting loot, you can get ice touches and wooden arrows from chests, so you can use the chest loot to make frostburn arrows

this is easily the best terraria video (perhaps best gaming video) i've ever watched. the editing/pacing and jokes are top notch, and your insane skill/movement and dedication are ridiculous. especially love the commitment to not cheesing anything -- the insistence on only equipping boots after beating skeletron and removing the dunerider sand bridge for the twins were massively baller moves and made the fights even more exciting to watch

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking lol. I like the simplicity of this challenge though, it's fun to min-max my strength with the few things I have.
Imagine getting a bubble gun from a don't dig up dungeon and taking it into a normal world

You got me on the edge with the wall of flesh clutch, the sheer amount of focus being in the zone as you go real smooth with a fricking cloud in a bottle and a webslinger against the twins, and not to mention the hours upon hours of numbing grinding and planning. Kudos to you bro, I'm fucking proud and forever will be amazed.
I presume you have already thought this, but if moon lord is literally impossible (laser of death says hello) If you were to make an exception, I would say taking the time to go to another world to get your triple jump with bottles would be fine to do, before using asphalt.
If I remember correctly, I am pretty sure you can shimmer biome keys into biome chests too, if you did want a crimson chest, and you can probably argue to turn bars into armor since the resource itself comes from chests - not like that will help much anyways.

The shimmered biome chests are intented for decoration (or flex idk). They don't spawn with their loot sadly

random thing, but dart trap + 2 spider fangs make venom traps, what makes the farm a bit more effective, when mobs get a bit more damage, they die faster, basically faser farm :).. And a bed also cures the headaches in the farm.

in case you didn't know, you could've obtained the vampire knives in this run as you can put the dryad in a graveyard biome and she'll sell the opposite evil seed in hard-mode. it would've taken some time but you could have made an artificial crimson biome. :) great run, great video!

the crimson chest wouldn’t spawn in the dungeon because it’s a corruption world, he could’ve got the key but there wouldn’t have been a chest

The Starfury is weird in that it is one of the very very few weapons that are easier to use on mobile. With mobile’s touch screen, it is a lot easier to accurately aim the falling star projectiles it creates.

I think pretty much all the post-plantera chest weapons are actually pretty solid. Even the worst ones are respectively a solid option for supplemental damage in general and combo mage setups in specific, and arguably the best pre-moon lord sentry in the game.
It would be nice if you allowed crafting with only items from chests. Like crafting Blue Horseshoe Baloon.

Sidenote: The Crimson Key IS available in a Corruption World. It requires a Graveyard which (judging by this video) you do have enough gravestones for. The Dryad sells the seeds to the biome not available to you, so you could have cleared the corruption dirt at the farmer and planted crimson seeds. Voila, Crimson farm.
Also, after killing any of the mech bosses, I recommend grabbing the conveyor belts from the Steampunker, as they considerably speed up the farm you built.
No crimson chest though unfortunately.
While doing damage calcs, I had the horrifying realization that the magic missile, *at least on paper,* is actually better than the flamelash.

There is an incostincency here.
Hellfire arrows can be obtained from shadow chests, so rather than being forced to count how many I get from the chests, it's easier and more fun to just buy them after I find them once
@@isloths Silver and tungsten bullets can also be obtained from shadow chests with the same chance and quantity as hellfire arrows.

this is a really well put together video and really impressive
Quite quickly in I started thinking "Hey, I don't think pickaxes are obtainable from chests" And thought this was going to be an impossible challenge because you also can't obtain most items from chests (boss summons, blocks, etc.) But even still this is a crazy difficult challenge and was very entertaining to watch.
The commentary and editing were funny and not overdone, the comedic timing was on point, and the gameplay was inspiring, with the final battle against Retinazer having me cheering you on! Hats off to you for putting in so much work to make this entertaining video!

I figured that would open up too much of a gray area for what is allowed and what's not. It's easier to only allow weapons and equipables directly found in chests. Plus it's a fun challenge.

Great video man, I would never be put up to this challenge. But I did notice that you said you would not be using the boomstick due to you having to purchase the ammo, but you used hellfire arrows to kill the twins
Hellfire arrows can be found in shadow chests, so I decided I would be using them. A lot of people were confused on this so I'll be sure to explain it in the next part. Glad you liked the vid.

The most fucked up part of this challenge to me is that you could have had Frostspark Boots if it weren't for the damn Goblin Tinkerer being the only way to get Rocket Boots meaning you're stuck at just Dune/Flurry/Hermes Boots

Some of the old versions of terraria, especially on console and mobile had really weird things like that. You used to be able to find the drax in a shadow chest on those versions lol

The best part of this video is when they identify not one, but *two* completely fair ways within the rules of their challenge to balance the fights out and mitigate their own low damage, and go "No, actually, that's boring, what if I had less to work with" and discarded asphalt and sand.
I feel like armor should've been allowed if it was made from materials found in a chest, seeing as you can indeed find gold, platinum, and meteorite in chests. Not like it'd make much of a difference if you're fighting moon lord, for example, with no armor or pre-hardmode armor, anyways.
Im not all the way through the video yet so forgive me if you already know but you got Dunerider boots. Not Hermes boots, which is actually great for a run like this because you actually run faster on sand blocks.

i've done this a few times, didn't record it because i didn't have a way to (no capture card on xbox one) but it's fun to do youtube challenges with friends and just playing the game without recording
Yeah, the self made challenges are my favorite part of this game. That's what got me into it, then one day I just decided to record and edit it.
