In this video I talk about the NEW 2022 Old Timer 152OTG Generational Series knife by Schrade Knives.
I compare this blade with my original Old Timer 152 where I talk about the good, bad and the ugly.

I'll never forget this knife. My grandfather gave me many things over the years including his vintage Old Timer pocket knives and this exact fixed blade along with a beautifully aged saddle tan leather sheath. All of these items including his vintage zippo that had a big decorative emblem fixed to the front were stolen by a friend of a "friend" back when I was around 15 or 16 years old. I was way too generous with my home and letting people come over to party or hang out and my friends used to bring their friends all the time. I never saw either of these kids again and this was almost 15 years ago. I have never wanted to hurt anyone in my life except for this person and if I ever saw him again, I would do just that.

Though tempted, I haven't added a sharpfinger to my collection yet. Back in the 70's they had one of the best ads for a knife - "For Large Squirrels and small Elephants." or something close to that. Still see them riding around on the belts of fogies my age and older on occasion. It's a time tested classic.

I bought one of these. I also have an older USA made version.
This new USA made model is simply beautiful. I love the bone handel and the polished blade. My wife took one look at it and wanted it for herself. She never even noticed the older one.
I have never had a problem dropping my knife. I don't need a lanyard hole. A rope big enough to put my hand in would probably get hung up on something and rip the knife out of the sheath.
This is a high quality American made skinning knife. It's sharp enough to shave hair right out of the box.
It's unfair reviews like yours that help destroy great American knife companies. My Old Timer was shipped to my door by Amazon for about $55 bucks. It has excellent fit and finish. It's profile is slim and a work of art.
If you are considering buying one. Just do it. I promise you won't be disappointed.
    God bless America 🇺🇲

There's really nothing wrong with the one he reviewed. It's nice. The ones with the hollow plastic handles are even decent knives for the price. They're better with some modifications. They are made in China. American owned.

I have my dad's in my pack 24-7 and placed the one he got me for my first knife in the gun cabinet they are still the best damn knifes I own countless field dressing jobs and I was truly happy to use it on my first elk. Thanks for pointing out the flaws on the new one, I wanted to get two of them for my young boys to be their first hunting knife and I don't have any problem with buying a older sharp finger for them because I know they are good.

I’m a fan of old America USA 🇺🇸 from 70s, 80s and 90s. I bought 3 of this generational ones. I took one Bass fishing and hunting with me and boy did I miss the linear hole!!! Every time... I had to put it down and then turn and looked around for it. The bone handle will break if you drop it on Concrete floors. Like you said.. the handle is too slim, I got big hands and when you clean a deer or hog. You’ll get blood in your hand and it got real slippery. I think Oldtimer brought this generational series for show. I’m sticking to my older 70s and early 80s models that I carry daily.

I still have my original Sharpfinger that my Wife got me for Christmas back around 1987-88. Mine has the snap loop around the handle. That knife saw a lot of action in the fields and woods. Still looks great today because I would wipe it down every time after cleaning my shotgun. It may not have been one of the priciest knives out there, but it’s still a treasure to me.

Thanks for the video, you just saved me some money. This was a knife I had bought for others, but not for myself. Sucks that they cheapened on the new model. I was going to buy one for myself, but I won’t waste my money on it. Knifes are the only thing that I have kept and never sold or traded in my 65 years. I had my first old timer stolen in the army in August or September of 1977 that I had bought in 72 or 73. I replaced it with a new one in October of 1977, same model. Most of my friend bought Buck knifes, I didn’t care for them at all. I did pick one up at a gun and knife show that a friend of mine operates a booth. Thanks again.

Besides the obvious game applications, these Sharpfingers will carve wood [I've done it] and perform other camp tasks well. Sonny Barger, founder of the Hell's Angels M.C., carried one as his EDC. I do wish Old Timer would produce an "Urban" version with a plastic or kydex friction fit sheath with multiple carry options. Black blade and scales would be nice. Great review, thanks for sharing this info!

i totally agree John! Taylor Brands or whoever the hell bought and owns Schrade now went the cheap route on a lot of these re-issued designs! i have and have went through a few sharp fingers over the years and a buddy has one of these newer pieces of shit and just holding it i knew the quality dropped WAY down from the older ones, it's a damn shame because these sharp fingers, like the buck 110's or you name it, are iconic designs to say the very least and they simply went the cheap manufacturing route and in my opinion totally cheapened this iconic knife, sad;y it's like a lot of other name brand items, not just knives, that the makers have turned to shit products thinking the legendary history and name will make the sales figures, well, i bet they end up seeing different in the long run brother. good vid John, Jerry in Indiana

  • @davidarwood6264

Im not sure if it's a bone or horn on the new anniversary knife. Either way the lanyard hole would have been a weak spot for cracking on either material. The handles on the regular new versions are hollow plastic with brass caps instead of brass pins. I've took them off , added a middle pin hole , put real brass pins in with a micarta handle......still the stainless steel and hollow ground there though. Nothing can be done with that. Being a knife maker I have make my own versions of a Sharpfinger though. Svord makes a really nice one called Amerkiwi. I've got to have it 😂 It is nice. Comfortable , better steel and flat grind. I'll buy another sharpfinger just for the sheath for it. 😅

  • @davidarwood6264
    @davidarwood6264 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

The hollow grind is done because its used in mass production and does very well for skinning.....so does a a thin flat ground knife. One is not better than the other. I doubt you would break it skinning .Yeah , I don't agree with that. The hollow ground just looks cheaper and not like a hand made knife. Anyway , it's a nice looking knife. Im sure almost anyone would like it. As a knife maker I would. No lanyard because the lanyard hole is very close to the edge , that 😢material (bone or horn ?) would likely crack. The placement of the lanyard hole was a design flaw from the beginning. I guess it's not a flaw if all you were going to put on these knives was a plastic handle and that's what they did. I've broke them down off purposely. You can call it "saw cut bone or stagalon" all you want like Schrade always has. I call them cheap synthetic materials. Not all synthetics are cheap.....but hollow plastic definitely is. The Traditional Series chose to use something nicer. If wanted to change some things a lanyard hole could have been used. How much would you want to stray from the basic design though? It's a nice knife. I would have went with a flat grind , but with a mirror finish on the blade like that who cares or notices. It takes nothing away from function.

The Schrade knives have all been made in China for the past 20 years, there's a Sharpfinger in the lineup but this one is definitely made for Schrade by Bear & Sons as are this entire recent series of these American made traditional knives.

Watching this video, it doesn’t appear that the knife is very sharp. A dull knife is less safe than a sharp one. And the grind of the blade doesn’t matter if the blade stock is that thin. If it’s a dull blade, it’s not going to cut. If it has 1095 HC steel, you can sharpen it using a rock, or a ceramic coffee cup. Sharpen the blade up and try again.

All those China made Schrade knives are JUNK! I would not waste one cent on those knives. When Schrade closed down, they sold the company to a China knife maker and the quality of Union made knife makers from the USA went out the window, I'm not saying that quality knives can't be made in China because they do make high quality Spyderco's and twosun knives are high quality for a good price. And this is just my opinion, but in the last 25 years my son and I have bought and sold well over ten thousand knives and we have learned a lot about quality. Tommyd

What a POS. You need to dwarf-toss that blade like you did that air pistol in its review... LOL

In my opinion they ruined it when they switched to stainless steel. We all know what opinions are like.
