Fun presentation. I've long been intrigued by the Sharpfinger. I remember the ad they ran in the outdoor magazines I would peruse, "for small elephants and large squirrels." It was a very common fixed blade EDC in my area. One of my older gentleman neighbors still packs what is left of his (MANY sharpenings) everyday. I'm glad to see there is a made in the USA option. Thanks for sharing.

Ho Rj, hope this msg finds you well. I have the other and otL. There's only 1 video of a person skinning a raccoon with a OT. I've used allot of skinning knives throughout the years to process deer and hogs and these skinners in my opinion are the best performance wise. As long as you choke up on the knife all the way and extent your index finger closer to the tip of the blade, with a relaxed hand, and a sharp edge, I think its the best performer. No cramping, no mess.
I know one of the main issues is people putting the death grip on knives when skinning, no need to do that. Just keep your hand closed/tight enough that you keep the blade from rolling. I'm seriously considering making a video showing this knife and how to use it.
    Take care. God bless!

The basic is running for 28$ and the Large for 35$ so very simular prices here and quite affordable for a fixed blade. The 5 buck clampack wood version was a superdeal. The 15OT Deerslayer is a lot larger but very simular in design, still fits in the sharpfinger collection in my opinion. I believe you have that one as well? If you stretch the connection a bit more you could even fit in the Uncle Henry Skinner somewhat different on the handle and a swedge on the spine, but still very close to the blade design of the Sharpfinger. (and it has the next gen staglon woohoo) Happy fun knife friday RJ and thank you for the video,

    • @RJsKnives

The Deerslayer and the Uncle Henry are in the family, in my opinion. I don’t have either, yet! It’s a sub collection that I am building out and still has some gaps. This was a fun video to put together and the Sharpfinger is a great small fixed blade. There are several other makers that put out a Sharpfinger blade and I am going to try and get those as I can to really try and get a complete sub collection. Thanks Jeroen and happy fun knife Friday!

I came about the Old Timer Sharpfinger while researching the Clinch Pick by Craig Douglas.
I 've been carrying a Sharpfinger for over a year now. It's my EDC personal defense knife. I carry it horizontally, at the appendix position, in a custom kydex sheath. I changed the plastic belt clip for a monoblock steel clip to give it a slimmer profile.
While the Old Timer Sharpfinger does not have the same reversed edge as the Clinch Pick, I have no doubt that be it will serve me well in a SHTF/Clinch Defense situation.
I am researching how I could put a sharp edge on the top of the blade.

Just acquired a 1520TG... it was the last one that the store had in stock at $99.00. I thought it over, but in the end made an impulse buy. It's a hollow-ground blade, and as you noted, has no lanyard hole. This could probably be "fixed" with a drill press and carefully drilled in two steps so as not to chip the bone. I may do this as I once lost a nice Cold Steel knife in Kuwait City during the first Persian Gulf War and so see the value of using lanyards for stuff hanging on the belt. Another thing I like was that it was made of carbon steel, not stainless. 1095 is much easier to sharpen and if properly heat treated, will hold an edge well enough.
All in all, I think this is an excellent blade design. As I don't regularly hunt Tyranosaurus Rex, I don't need an 8" blade, so this compact design suits me well enough, though I may well look into one of the larger versions.
    Thanks for the video!

I think you made a good purchase. The 152OTG is a great knife. 1095 is a great steel and the Sharpfinger is an excellent skinner. The old ads said it was good for anything from large squirrels to small elephants. Salute from one Vet to another, although I was just peacetime.

Could be laminated rosewood! That generational looks cool. I might need to pick it up. Not sure what they mean by 1095HC.
Not sure about the gut hook. But I can definitely see why a Sharpfinger collection would seem incomplete without it.
    That 152OTL is cool.
I wonder if the 152 Generational was made by Bear & Son. The Bear & Son Sharpfingers also lack the lanyard hole.

    • @RJsKnives
      @RJsKnives  ปีที่แล้ว

I heard it by rumor that Bear and Son made the OTG knives for Old Timer. The OTG line is using 1095 carbon steel for the blades. The gut hook has Sharpfinger in the name but is not listed that way all the time, definitely a variation in the family but I felt the lineage was pretty direct. The rosewood does kind of have a laminated look to it! Who knows?

Imperial, Schrade, Old Timer and Uncle Henry were sold to Taylor and Company in 2004 and production moved to China. Around 2020, American Outdoor Brands, the parent company of Battenfeld Technologies bought the knife business from Taylor and Company. Nice video. I just purchased an old-timer sharpfinger at my local Academy sporting goods store. It's a 152ot. It looks exactly like the first one you reviewed but one side of the blade says 152ot and the other side says old timer 0922. It doesn't say Schrade like yours. Also, the tip of the knife is not sharp or pointy at all. Like i can press my thumb on the tip with good pressure and it doesn't hurt at all. It even looks a bit like the tip is either broken off a bit or bent. I don't know if that's the way they are or if it's just mine that's maybe defective. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Sometimes a knife comes from the factory with the tip rounded over. You should be able to correct it by sharpening the blade. It’s a bummer, sometimes QC let’s one through. Or you can see if Academy will let you exchange it for another. I have noticed that Old Timer and Uncle Henry, both brands of Schrade, have started using new numbering systems for the knives and taking the Schrade name off the blades. I hope this is helpful.

Interesting designed blade shape. The blade shape is more specialized for skinning and less for for other uses. The point of the blade works well for fine detail cuts for removing the hide from the head, eyes, lips and ears for mounting the animal or having the hide or fur tanned. It might sound gruesome but that is what this knife design does best. The small size just works better than larger ones do. 🙂

I agree. It’s a great design for the detail work after a successful hunt. And it’s a truly iconic American design. A lot of good thought went into making these knives. Thanks Gizmo!

Gizmo Carr Right you are. BEST knife for skinning rabbits, squirrel and deer, which is what I used mine for back in the early seventies up in Michigan.

A quick search on eBay says these were made in 74 and 75. I didn’t see a Sharpfinger but regardless of model they are starting out at 100.00. If you’re looking to sell, start at that price and see what the market will bear. Sounds like you have a good one. Hope this helps!

Mine says schrade usa 152 on the blade and old timer on the sheath what's that mean ?

Schrade was the parent company that owned Old Timer. Old Timer and Uncle Henry were different lines that the sold, among others like Imperial. So on your knife it’s a model 152 Old Timer, made in the USA . Hope that helps. Merry Christmas!

Depending on condition they are going from 20-45 dollars. Check eBay to find similar knives like yours and that will be your guide. Thanks for watching!
