Think of it this way... the parents leave the 7 billion kids to take care of the house and tend to needed chores ETC. Here are some universally accepted words of Christ; words that each of you have read and must believe and of course accept at face value. Matthew 16:27-28 (some of His disciples there with him on that day will still be alive and witness His second coming. Here is what Jesus said to Joseph Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin; Matthew 26:64. Peter knew when the second coming was (and so did Joseph Smith). Peter declared it perfectly and succinctly in 1 Peter 4:7. Joseph Smith had to correct verse 6 and verse 8 due to the perversion of 1611, but Joseph did not change verse 7, because it was and still is perfect in its translation and meaning. Revelations 1:1 Why would John say “must shortly come to pass” about an event over 2100 years in the future? Revelations 1:3 Why would John say “for the time is at hand” about an event that is over 2100 years in the future? Revelations 1:7 Why would John say “every eye shall see Him, and they also which pieced Him”.? Today the Sanhedrin is long dead and the Roman Empire no longer exists. (They are they which pierced Him). No one else. Revelations 2:25 Why would Jesus encourage the faithful church at Thyratira to “hold fast till He comes”.? Revelations 3: Why did Jesus tell the Saints in Sardis that “no man knows the day or the hour” when He comes? Why didn’t He say no man knows the decade or the century or the millenium…? Why did Jesus double down when He warned the Saints in Philadelphia “Behold, I come quickly”.? Is “quickly” over 2100 years? Even if you are a hardcore dispensationalist, 2100 years cannot be considered quickly. Why did the tour guide angel of Revelations 10 declare that “there should be time no longer” before the second coming and the millennial reign? Why in Revelations 22:12 did Jesus declare “behold, I come quickly”.? Simple questions from a simple man. I definitely believe the words of Jesus on the matter. I definitely believe the words of Joseph Smith on the matter. I definitely believe we are living in the last days. I definitely believe that Christ is coming again. I’m just finding it hard to believe that Jesus and Joseph got it wrong. Perhaps the dark ages weren’t as dark as Satan’s history books say they were. I believe Jesus and Joseph got it right and told us the truth. We are living in the little season… the true last days.
We believe in the words of Christ and the teachings of the prophets, both ancient and modern. It’s important to approach these scriptures with faith, understanding that some prophecies and teachings are layered with spiritual and temporal meanings that unfold over time. Regarding the Second Coming of Christ, while some scriptures may seem to suggest an imminent return in the early Christian era, the Lord's timing is not always aligned with our mortal perceptions of time. Peter, for instance, reminds us that "one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" (2 Peter 3:8). This indicates that God’s timetable is different from ours and that what may seem like a delay to us is, in fact, perfectly timed according to His eternal perspective. The Doctrine and Covenants also gives us insight into the timing of the Lord's return. In D&C 45:26, we are told that "in that day shall be heard of wars and rumors of wars, and the whole earth shall be in commotion, and men’s hearts shall fail them." These are signs that we are in the last days, but they also remind us that the fulfillment of prophecy often spans generations, with God revealing His will "line upon line, precept upon precept" (2 Nephi 28:30). Joseph Smith, through revelation, also clarified many points of doctrine and prophecy, helping us understand the broader context of these scriptures. For example, in D&C 29:9, it is revealed that "the hour is nigh, and that which was spoken by mine apostles must be fulfilled; for as they spoke so shall it come to pass." This reinforces the idea that the prophecies of old will indeed come to pass, but in the Lord’s time and manner. Your belief that we are living in the last days is well-founded. The signs of the times are all around us, as prophesied. However, as Jesus taught in Matthew 24:36, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." This teaches us that while we should be vigilant and spiritually prepared, we must also trust in the Lord’s timing. The scriptures you mentioned are indeed powerful, and they remind us of the importance of remaining steadfast in faith. We are called to prepare spiritually, to build up Zion, and to live as though the Savior’s return is imminent, while also recognizing that the exact timing is known only to God. In these last days, we must continue to seek revelation, follow the counsel of living prophets, and build our lives on the foundation of Christ, who is our "rock and our Redeemer" (Helaman 5:12). By doing so, we can confidently face the future, knowing that the Lord’s promises will be fulfilled according to His divine plan. Thank you again for your dedication to studying and understanding these important matters. May we all continue to grow in faith and prepare for the glorious return of our Savior.

@@TheWordsofChrist this whole is true, what I am questioning is the requirement of doing temple works, "levelling up" in the temple and tithing, none of them is said to be required to be saved. yet my BP is adamant, that attendance and paying FULL tithing and working with the missionaries is REQUIRED to even get my patriarchal blessing. that is what I balk at.

Here are some universally accepted words of Christ; words that each of you have read and must believe and of course accept at face value. Matthew 16:27-28 (some of His disciples there with him on that day will still be alive and witness His second coming. Here is what Jesus said to Joseph Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin; Matthew 26:64. Peter knew when the second coming was (and so did Joseph Smith). Peter declared it perfectly and succinctly in 1 Peter 4:7. Joseph Smith had to correct verse 6 and verse 8 due to the perversion of 1611, but Joseph did not change verse 7, because it was and still is perfect in its translation and meaning. Revelations 1:1 Why would John say “must shortly come to pass” about an event over 2100 years in the future? Revelations 1:3 Why would John say “for the time is at hand” about an event that is over 2100 years in the future? Revelations 1:7 Why would John say “every eye shall see Him, and they also which pieced Him”.? Today the Sanhedrin is long dead and the Roman Empire no longer exists. (They are they which pierced Him). No one else. Revelations 2:25 Why would Jesus encourage the faithful church at Thyratira to “hold fast till He comes”.? Revelations 3: Why did Jesus tell the Saints in Sardis that “no man knows the day or the hour” when He comes? Why didn’t He say no man knows the decade or the century or the millenium…? Why did Jesus double down when He warned the Saints in Philadelphia “Behold, I come quickly”.? Is “quickly” over 2100 years? Even if you are a hardcore dispensationalist, 2100 years cannot be considered quickly. Why did the tour guide angel of Revelations 10 declare that “there should be time no longer” before the second coming and the millennial reign? Why in Revelations 22:12 did Jesus declare “behold, I come quickly”.? Simple questions from a simple man. I definitely believe the words of Jesus on the matter. I definitely believe the words of Joseph Smith on the matter. I definitely believe we are living in the last days. I definitely believe that Christ is coming again. I’m just finding it hard to believe that Jesus and Joseph got it wrong. Perhaps the dark ages weren’t as dark as Satan’s history books say they were. I believe Jesus and Joseph got it right and told us the truth. We are living in the little season… the true last days.
We believe in the words of Christ and the teachings of the prophets, both ancient and modern. It’s important to approach these scriptures with faith, understanding that some prophecies and teachings are layered with spiritual and temporal meanings that unfold over time.
Regarding the Second Coming of Christ, while some scriptures may seem to suggest an imminent return in the early Christian era, the Lord's timing is not always aligned with our mortal perceptions of time. Peter, for instance, reminds us that "one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" (2 Peter 3:8). This indicates that God’s timetable is different from ours and that what may seem like a delay to us is, in fact, perfectly timed according to His eternal perspective.
The Doctrine and Covenants also gives us insight into the timing of the Lord's return. In D&C 45:26, we are told that "in that day shall be heard of wars and rumors of wars, and the whole earth shall be in commotion, and men’s hearts shall fail them." These are signs that we are in the last days, but they also remind us that the fulfillment of prophecy often spans generations, with God revealing His will "line upon line, precept upon precept" (2 Nephi 28:30).
Joseph Smith, through revelation, also clarified many points of doctrine and prophecy, helping us understand the broader context of these scriptures. For example, in D&C 29:9, it is revealed that "the hour is nigh, and that which was spoken by mine apostles must be fulfilled; for as they spoke so shall it come to pass." This reinforces the idea that the prophecies of old will indeed come to pass, but in the Lord’s time and manner.
Your belief that we are living in the last days is well-founded. The signs of the times are all around us, as prophesied. However, as Jesus taught in Matthew 24:36, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." This teaches us that while we should be vigilant and spiritually prepared, we must also trust in the Lord’s timing.
The scriptures you mentioned are indeed powerful, and they remind us of the importance of remaining steadfast in faith. We are called to prepare spiritually, to build up Zion, and to live as though the Savior’s return is imminent, while also recognizing that the exact timing is known only to God.
In these last days, we must continue to seek revelation, follow the counsel of living prophets, and build our lives on the foundation of Christ, who is our "rock and our Redeemer" (Helaman 5:12). By doing so, we can confidently face the future, knowing that the Lord’s promises will be fulfilled according to His divine plan.

The term Latter-days is a Hebrew idiom, which means sometime in the future.
There are idioms in English: Round the Corner, Down the Line, to name just two.

I agree that the Bible was written for our understanding and guidance, but it also reveals God's eternal plan for His children. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we believe that the "latter days" refer specifically to this final dispensation before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. While it is true that many have speculated about the timing of Christ's return, the scriptures consistently teach that no one knows the exact hour except God (Matthew 24:36).
The term "latter days" or "last days" (Hebrew: **אַחֲרִית הַיָּמִים** *acharit hayamim*) appears in the Bible and generally refers to a future period, particularly associated with eschatological events-events related to the end times or the final days of the world as we know it. In scripture, it signifies a prophetic time, often linked to the coming of the Messiah, the gathering of Israel, or significant future events, rather than just an idiomatic reference to "sometime in the future."
- Isaiah 2:2: "And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains..."
- Joel 2:28-29: "...in the last days, I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh..."
The term "latter days" in our belief is not just a vague future reference but signals the period when God's gospel is fully restored, as prophesied in both the Bible and modern revelation (Isaiah 2:2-3, Acts 3:21). We see the Restoration through Joseph Smith as part of that fulfillment, preparing the world for the return of the Savior.
While some have made predictions in the past, we focus on preparing spiritually through following Christ's teachings, repenting, and making sacred covenants. We don't claim to know exactly when Christ will return, but we are encouraged to live our lives in such a way that we are ready whenever that day comes (Matthew 25:13).
I respect your perspective on idioms, but in our view, the latter days represent more than just a figure of speech. It is a time of great spiritual significance, marked by the restoration of God's truths, priesthood authority, and the gathering of Israel, as mentioned throughout the scriptures.

@@TheWordsofChrist this whole is true, what I am questioning is the requirement of doing temple works, "levelling up" in the temple and tithing, none of them is said to be required to be saved. yet my BP is adamant, that attendance and paying FULL tithing and working with the missionaries is REQUIRED to even get my patriarchal blessing. that is what I balk at.
Your bishop or branch president may emphasize temple worthiness and paying tithing to ensure you are spiritually prepared to receive a patriarchal blessing. This isn’t about "leveling up," but about creating the spiritual conditions necessary to receive personal revelation from God through His servant, the patriarch.
Finally, the guidance and commandments given to us-whether in regard to tithing, temple work, or missionary efforts-are not meant to be seen as requirements to earn salvation, but as steps toward greater blessings and spiritual growth. In Doctrine and Covenants 130:20-21, we learn that blessings are predicated on obedience to God's laws. Following these laws helps us prepare to receive the full range of blessings, including those tied to sacred ordinances and personal revelation.
