It would’ve been hilarious if Lucas did one of his high-speed intros where he shoots and runs around- but he does it with a magless gun and dryfires the whole time
man, the editing on this channel is really impressive. there's a lot of things that can be complimented, but the editing is easily the most standout thing here (imo)
Got to say this site is one of the best for all around knowledge from basics to tactical. I have watched all of these series and it was well worth the time and I finally bought a couple of your holster systems and the quality, fit and interchangeable options makes building a holster portfolio much easier. Thanks for your efforts.
Ben Stoeger, Trex, Velox Training Group, Spectrain, Milspec Mojo, MSP (less than the others), and there are a bunch more that I could add if I took the time.
Pranka, Stoeger, and TRex have all the information you need to be successful on their platforms. The only thing missing is your equipment and work ethic
Love this series. As a new shooter these are helping me immensely. I even feel like I am no longer miles behind my mates who have been shooting for years. It’s starting to edge into “reps will take me to where I want to be.” I have been dry firing, but now I can step it up. 👍
My wife bought me ITarget last Xmas and I love it. I have it in both .40 and 9mm. Aiming at a target is fine but knowing where the bullet will go when you pull the trigger is much better. Dry firing without the laser will help with acquiring the dot, but it also helps to know that when you press the trigger, you're not gonna pull low and left. You still have to put in the range time though to manage recoil. If only there was a dry fire way to simulate recoil!
Been shooting for only 4 months but the consistent dry fire training I do is making for improvement in leaps and bounds beyond what I thought I'd be capable of 4 months in. Reminds me of the video you did with Like. Went to my first all day training class recently which is a testament to dry fire training because there's no way I'd want to sign up for one of those and embarrass myself haha. I also make it to the range twice a week for live fire. Cannot express enough gratitude for videos like this that help me improve dry fire training and my overall understanding and experience with firearms. Thanks!
man i love watching all the videos you guys put out. Every video is helping me become a better shoot and a more educated shooter and conceal carry individual. These videos seriously help me see what i should be doing and what i shouldn't be doing.
I really appreciate a series like this. I live in a place where firearms are mostly banned or heavily restricted, including magazine capacity. All I can do is dry fire or sometimes shoot bb rounds with my airsoft guns. But I still want to achieve a competent, if not high level skill in firearm manipulation, safety, accuracy, all that good stuff. Just in case I'm ever faced with a situation where I need to defend myself or those I care for, I'm not a danger to innocent people around me if I get a firearm in my hands. Thanks for always sharing your knowledge, Lucas!
Dry fire really helped me get better as well. I was doing it everyday for all of quarantine days and it greatly increased my shooting and reloading abilities both pistol and rifle.
So funny that this video dropped literally while I was doing dry fire practice 😆 I have three targets around my apartment. One is the zeroing target that Trex sent me when I bought my AimPoint PRO a few years ago, the other is a 1x1 square of tape, and the last one is actually me. I’ll just stand in front of a mirror and practice shooting myself so that I’m accustomed to putting my sights on an actual human being.
I love the spacing of these videos getting posted! Gives people time to actually do what you're saying and then be ready when the next video comes out!
This has been one of the biggest helps for my transitions and reloads when running live ammo. Some of my friends went to the range with me to run some drills. I threw dummy rounds in their mags and they were impressed at how much it helps them
Our department is transitioning us to red dots - after tens of thousands of rounds with irons, I feel like I am having to go back to the basics a bit to find that dot quickly. Great video, great pointers!!
I don't always use my Mantis, but the draw feature is fantastic. It also makes it a bit more fun for me while also offering a timing feature. I haven't tried the trigger reset mags yet.
It's the fourth time I see this video. Thank you so much for all the free content you guve us, and I've also been very pleased with all the equipment I bought from T.Rex Armes. Thanks from France 🇨🇵
This came up while I was doing dryfire ... while watching basketball... and randomly thinking of ways to "react" to people/things on TV that I couldn't predict like " the next blue shirt" or "the next different person" or "the first person in the next transition".
The amount of free information between their website and TH-cam is beyond impressive. Waiting for the TA02 ACOG to come back in stock so I can support you guys
I use a DryFire mag for the light switches in the house. It really helped get better with the dot. I use it almost every day, and it's only about 90 bucks. Nice to reset the trigger without racking the slide 50 times a day. The lasers seem wonky, and it seems like you'd focus on the bouncing laser like a video game.
Please continue this series and bring on more SMEs, I started my journey thinking the only way is shooting a billion bullets but now I am realizing live fire should be used to vet your dry fire, maybe bring on Ben Stoeger for an episode
Great intro to dry fire video. Thank you. Could you guys do a detailed video on correct target transitions? Body mechanics of the movement, what parts of your body are you moving to transition. Shot cadence and movement speed from target to target, specifically with multiple targets at different ranges.
The coolfire barrel is pretty cool for dry fire, the recoil isn't the same but it resets the trigger and it's the closest thing you can get to be able to train at home
This is by far the best video series on the internet for learning how to get better at shooting that I've found. Especially for people who may not have someone to teach them in person or turn to for questions. Thanks for 'equipping serious citizens' with this knowledge!
Yes, i have been dry firing religiously for at least 2 years(whenever you had laiku on the channel) will i may not he the tightest grouper, it has made me one of the fastest shooters i know. Target focus is the key.
Love the video!! The mantis x3 does (as you put it) spit out too much info that may or may not be useful depending on how you use it. I've found it highly beneficial as a shot timer at indoor ranges as it only records your shots.
Good video! FYI sticky notes make good dryfire targets because they are small and repositionable. Also there are Par Timer apps on the app store that are way cheaper and more convenient than a shot timer in regards to dryfire (I'd argue you still need a real shot timer though).
GREAT VID LUCAS - CAN YOU DO A VERSION LIKE THIS WITH AIRSOFT GLOCK AND AR -- FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVENT GOT ACCESS IN OTHER COUNTRIES AND WHAT ABOUT LASER TAG 2.0 ??
Going with the money saving aspect I bought an Advantage Arms .22L conversion kit for my 26. It cost me $280 and I’ve saved welllll over that much in ammo. I can now shoot a couple hundred rounds for a fraction of the price. Working draw, grip, target transition, everything. Then run a few mags of 9mil to get the recoil impulse right and I’m good to go.
I started using PAR PRO on iPhone and noticed more speed over just a few weeks. Always working on everything els but been chasing getting to a 1sec appendix draw and fire.
Lucas and Brantley must make a video in which they challenge each other with pistols and see who is the better shooter. I think it could be a very fun video.
A laser cartridge can be helpful from the aspect of seeing where your shots are going while being focused on the target, I get the concept of the practice, but the laser cartridge is a good indication of your shots on target.
I'm going back over the entire series on shooting because I just now after years of shooting finally got the grip down. I think you need to emphasize the grip and pressure. That was something I just didn't understand until an instructor put his hand over mine as a support hand and squeezed. I didn't understand how much pressure he was putting in or I should've been putting in to hold the gun, then locking the wrist out.
Plus, this training up by adding differnet types of weapons to the targets. Mix in unarmed targets with armed targets that in various stages of threat levels. In OTC guys have been dropped for shooting unarmed targets due to training scars. If you're going to train this make it even more valuable and the effort will pay off in the chaos.
My hands hurt now but ive definitely got the proper grip, i can't afford to live fire all the time so this is great for me. Only thing is i can't use red dots because i have astigmatism.
Also be deliberate when you're first practicing the draw. Very deliberate to build those neuro pathways. Then start speeding up. You can look too. Look at what you're doing to build the perfect consistent grip
For dry fire practice ,something rarely spoken about these days is " balancing the dime" . Balance a dime on the slide near the muzzle and learning how to pull the trigger without the coin falling .
It's an old technique, and honestly it's not that difficult. If you are using a red dot, the dot will give you all the feedback you need. More importantly, people tend to game the coin drill by prepping the trigger. The important thing, is being able to from off the trigger, to breaking the shot with one trigger pull and without having to prep to the wall.
I got considerably better with grip, trigger pull, target ransistions, efficient draws from concealment, single hand draws, getting the dot on target, gun handling skills, reloads etc. using just dry fire. I still dry fire practice all the time.
Excellent video man! But…..I don’t know, the Mantis trigger pull feedback is pretty damn helpful in dry fire exercise. Feel like that’s what you were alluding too. Lol. Anyways, just a new USPSA shooter here…..feels like relearning shooting sometimes. Lol
Idk about shitting on mantis. Def helped during COVID when 9mm was over 50cpr. A dryfiremag also helps get past the first good trigger pull and subsequent follow on shots a lot of people struggle with from only firing one shot then racking the slide in dry fire.
Does doing these dry fire drills cause damage internally to the pistol or rifle over time? Specifically things like slapping the trigger and racking the charging handle
I started dry fire after i had purchased a dry fire guide from front site, as i cant get to the range very often, dy fire has been the vast majority of my training, one thing i am still terrible at is any kind of speed, i am just slow
It would’ve been hilarious if Lucas did one of his high-speed intros where he shoots and runs around- but he does it with a magless gun and dryfires the whole time
Why would it be hilarious? That would actually be incredibly advantageous in competitions, and it's why they don't even let you air gun at IDPA.

Perfect timing, just got done with my workout and dry fire sesh. Now I get to learn what I did right and horribly wrong. Nice gym setup btw 💪
Brantley is the man, great addition to the team. Been following his channel, I enjoy watching him shoot.
In addition to dry fire, I also bought dummy rounds to practice malfunction clearing drills for my rifles and pistols.
I just use spent casings lol
@ethanmitchell3439 Those work just fine, and their budget friendly! Lol
