Mine stands the test of time (3 years) with no signs of drift even after movement-intensive games like MH and DS, glad that this came so I can future-proof mine :D.

    this was my very first tear down of any type of technology, and holy hell was it nerve racking, there was an instance when I was screwing in the second module where I couldn't get the screw to go threw and after double checking I was screwing into the ribbon cable that connects over one of the screw holes, it get wedged under the module without me noticing, if I wasn't as careful as I was and applied just a bit more force, I would've fucked up my whole controller, little bit of story time for a first timer

    On a related note I wonder if anyone's considered making a 3DS style shell that would fit 3DS analog sticks. I don't recall now what the ribbon cable length/angles were but I do recall them being the same pin count and cable size as the 3DS analog sticks so would be cool if there were JoyCons with 3DS style thumbsticks. Never heard of 3DS analog sticks getting drift so that would be an alternative solution to the problem. :P

    I don't know why you pry the battery from that side, there's a clear opening on the left that you can pry from the bottom of the battery, that gives way less stress on the battery, always keep in mind deforming a battery is dangerous.

  • @TheProficy
    @TheProficy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Just installed these into my white OLED Joy-cons, procedure was definitely more fiddly than I expected due to how compact the insides of the Joy-cons are, but thankfully nothing broke and the sticks work great! They only felt slightly firmer to me than the original joysticks but overall I prefer it, they feel better and more premium. My original sticks were working fine, but I replaced them anyway because the left one started making this weird spring creak when moving it to the left which I could also feel slightly. I was only going to replace just that one but decided to spend more on the GuliKit set and replace them both so they never have to end up drifting in the future. I do wish you showed how to re-connect the battery connector but that's my only complaint with the video. Besides that, I was easily able to follow along with the instructions and successfully, essentially upgrade, my Joy-cons!

  • @shmalan9698
    @shmalan9698 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    hey just a bit of a tip, but when you took apart the right joycon and you removed the old joystick i noticed that you had trouble getting the little black plastic dust cover thingy back in place. so the trick is that it actually goes under the nfc chip reader. what happens is when you lift the old joystick out of there it usually likes to bring that piece with it, so it pulls it out from under the nfc card reader, so all you gotta do is just bend it a tiny bit and make it go back under there. i just noticed that you tried to make it lay down and you couldnt and then you just gave up and said "alright so thats in there now" even though it wasnt lol by thw way what im talking about took place at 12:18

    Word of advice for anyone with fat fingers reading this-- you don't have to disconnect the battery *before* you remove the battery carriage. You just need to move it out of the carriage to unscrew it from the joycon. You can disconnect the battery after when you have more room for a utensil or your finger.
    Don't rip the connector off the battery cables like me. Fortunately it looks like an easy enough reinsertion.

    I’ve done stick replacements myself but this video has bad lighting. Not a very professional video for people who are new to this.

      Someone with no experience has no business disassembling a joycon. Also, this video is technically a review, not an in depth tutorial. There are plenty of videos online showing how to replace the joystick.

      Well, is not recommended to do this with no experience, and second, to do a replacement of stick better do it when really your joycon is complete useless that deserved to almost trash it, insted of damaging a joycon that at least is working.
