- We finally tackle the almighty Joy-Con controller shell swap! This is a LONG tutorial as the process does take a while. With some time, patience, and the right tools on hand, performing a full Joy-Con housing swap isn't all too bad! This will walk through taking apart each Joy-Con controller, swapping over the buttons, rebuilding the Joy-Con controllers, and of course with some tips and tricks sprinkled in the entire time. I would recommend to anyone who has never done this before to set aside about two hours to complete the full process.

Great tutorial! I bought the same green basstop shell you used in another vid, the biggest pain in the ass thru the whole thing was definitely the ZR buttons and the springs lol. They didn't fit as well as the OEM did in the original battery compartment and required a lot of force to get in. The springs wouldn't stay in place as I pushed it in, so I screwed in the little button pcb underneath first, pressed ZR in, and then finagled the springs underneath the button using some tweezers. I also couldn't get the right one to completely close 100%, but it's only like a millimeter so it ain't the end of the world. These things came out beautiful, thank you!!
Great video! I just swapped my joycon shells out to a Gameboy themed look. That right side is a pain though but I got it done. Also, I replaced the analogs with Gulikit analogs. Now I just to replace the scratched glass which I think I will send it to a repair shop. I never have the best of luck with just the glass.
Very awesome! Sounds great.
Your video help right to the end, thankyou.
Glad to hear it!
Thank you! Appreciated
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video, I will say that for the left joycon, it's a lot easier if you separate the ZL button before removing the battery holder. Also, if you remove the three screws for the Minus and L, you can remove the top screw of the joystick without disconnecting the ribbon. These two adjustments allow you to transplant the pcb without detaching ribbons other than the rail.
Good tips!
watching your videos because im planning to reshell my switch with totk shells
Another great video. How does the dpad feel when gaming? Is it better than the stock setup? Also have you got a direct link to the one you bought? I've had a look about and can't find the one you used that includes the dpad. Thanks
I personally like it more, I have it on two of them now. Check the description, I've added the exact one used!
Thanks, looks like they are all sold out. There was another one but it was priced at £43 and didn't have a dpad either 🤯
Thank you dad
Good video
Everything work on my left joycon but the minus button feels a bit recessed and theres a slight flex in the front panel. Any idea why?
You: you really can't mess up transferring the release button.
Me: You underestimate me sir. LOL.
But seriously I don't know if it slipped from it's space when I flipped it or what but I closed my left joy con up, screws and all, only to realize I couldn't press it in. Seems it's stuck in the released position. I ended up stripping two of the 4 screws trying to open her back up to fix the release button. Any advice? Currently it's only mildly inconvenient but I would love to get those stripped screws out to fix the button.
You could put a rubber band between your bit and the screw, flat side down, and see if you can grip enough to unscrew them? Otherwise you might have to be intentionally destructive and use a drill with a small drill bit to drill out the 2 screws. Just make sure you can replace them.
@@MrMario2011 I tried the rubber band trick but my screwdriver just pokes through it. I don't trust myself at using a drill either.
at 55:00 it looks like you put the ribbon for ZL in upside down
When I was trying to do the right joycon the l button switch came off what do I so
Put it back on?
@@MrMario2011 the button came off the bord
@@mauricethagreat6088 oh ur talking about the R button at the top, right? if you are those are a bitch to fix you would have to solder it back on too hot and you ruin the spot where you have to solder it back on and make sure to solder it the right way if you plan on doing it i messed mine up trying to fix i after i dropped it .
Unless you're willing to risk running your Joycon - honestly don't attempt it!
Always a risk, but as long as you have time and the right tools you'll be fine.
Or the joycon is already junked up XD
