The Subaru Legacy Sport or Subary Legacy Touring XT in the USA is putting down 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque from a Turbo 2.4L 4 cylinder boxer engine. At $41,995 CAD, would you take it over the Honda Accord FWD, Toyota Camry AWD, Nissan Altima AWD?

      Can't wait for all these little floormat companies to go away, so many of them and they all only make mats for cars like 2015+

    • @nobodyyouknow4319
      @nobodyyouknow4319 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tuxmat is way better than WeatherTech for these reasons: Better coverage all around; nicer looking; fits better and ages better; and the fit and finish is miles ahead; no matter how dirty the Tuxmats get they clean up and look like new. Problems with WeatherTech: you can never ever get them clean, even after washing and scrubbing they always look dirty; they scratch up easier and look worn out after a year from your shoes/boots wear marks; the rear mats are chinzy and cheap, very thin and terrible protection when you live in a winter environment (like Canada) as the lips around the edges are not very high and the water spills over on hard braking. Tuxmat looks elegant and rich looking and Weathertech looks like entry level and low rent. I've had both and it is Tuxmat for my cars. A Canadian company that makes a better product than the giant south of the border

      @@youtubechannel8854 As Willie Sutton said: go where the money is and go there often. Most cars that are pre 2015 already have the mats in them and previously purchased. People buy mats when they get a new car so as a business model it probably does not make economic sense to carry an inventory when few are sold as compared to recent cars when you need to get them for its first winter.

    I had a Legacy GT a decade ago and it didn’t look much different than this one from the outside. The famous Subaru Symmetrical AWD did save my butt one night on a slick, snow-covered highway when a large SUV spun out in front of me, and I had to make a quick evasive maneuver to avoid hitting it. 😎👍

    • @grantmccarron3963
      @grantmccarron3963 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not that I'm picking on you, but that's a common misconception as to what AWD actually does. It was you good driving skills that saved your butt, not the AWD. Consider that the SUV that spun in front of you most likely had AWD or 4x4 too (~most SUV's have one or the other), and still spun as well. Good quality tires are the biggest factor here. "Drivers often assume that because they have all-wheel or 4-wheel drive, they will be safe in inclement weather or bad conditions. This isn't the case; while AWD improves straight-line traction, it does not help with cornering or braking, two essential elements of avoiding an accident." It only help you get moving from a stop. Doesn't help you steer or stop once you're moving. Probably stops worse due to the added weight. I have AWD too, just trying to clarify what it does.

    I've been thinking about this car a bunch lately because of all the glowing reviews of the bulky AWD, HYBRID Toyota Crown which somehow, in top trim, gets 32 mpg which is exactly 1 mpg better than the Legacy GT/XT/Sport model engine. I would have liked more discussion/comparison of this vehicle versus the newest crop of sedans that only recently have added AWD as an option. My sense is that if you are genuinely looking for "best" poor weather performance, the Subaru stalwart wins.

  • @BahhJustaLamb

    This is great because the other competitors (Camry, Accord, Altima) only offer the AWD if paired with the weaker engine. Meaning that the Legacy is the only high output midsize sedan (250hp or more) that can be had for that $30K-$45K price tag.
    Couple that with the Legacy's tradition of being the "WRX for adults" and you have a great formula. Throw in some sway bars, springs, and a mild exhaust and it'll be the perfect midsize sedan

    I went from a 2018 base model Legacy, to a 2021 Limited XT. The difference in power is very noticeable. I have 2 kids, both carseats fit great in the back. This new version looks cheaper to me, mostly because of those horrid rims. Bottom line, I have a car that's safe for my family, but it has the balls to move when I need to pass people. The stock tires are "ok" when its slick, so like these guys recommended, get some snow tires! The crazy part, is my car has 23k miles, and is worth more now than when I bought it, so they do hold their value very well.

      Damn it! I was going to order a 2023 limited XT(this was before my dealer had any info on it and we didn’t know they’d get rid of the limited xt), but then thought I’d get the touring xt instead once it was announced no more limited xt. I ended up not wanting to wait when I found a 21 limited with 4k miles, clean car fax, &for a “fantastic” price, 28k usd. I wish I waited for the touring xt now, because I really wanted the turbo. I’ll probably trade in next year for either a 23 or, if I can wait, a 24 with the turbo. I have a 10 month old son who I split custody with his mother, &his car seat fits fine. She has a 2011 pathfinder silver(top trim) that needs to be upgraded, so I’ll be getting her a new car shortly. Really pushing her towards a outback, even a cross trek or forester. I think I’m getting her to be more open to the idea. We live in New England, &she’s up in the white mountains area so I’d prefer her having the extra lift of the outback/crosstrek/forester/ascent. I live closer to the sea coast so the legacy will do fine for me.

    What is amazing about this - this car in the USA is almost the same price as the 2013 Subaru Legacy with the H6 engine. I still own that car with 130,000 miles and it runs great. It appears the top Touring trim in the USA is now $37,695. Back in 2013 the top of the line Limited cost $36,500 - so about an increase of $1000 over a decade. That is pretty amazing in itself. I live on a mountain and in the winter with snow, you need AWD with all weather tires or snow tires to get home. So my choices are the Subaru Legacy, Toyota Camry AWD with a four cylinder only, and a Nissan Altima with a four cylinder only. If I wanted a more powerful AWD car, the only option is still Subaru at this price point. But I will stick with my current car for at least few more years and at least 175,000.

I started my car purchase journey targeting a Tucson and this channel gave me a key info about their turn signal design being placed at the bottom. I just can't look beyond it (maybe its just me). It is same with Santa Fe, their design looks really good but the tail light comment works like a vaccine, it eventually kills the excitement. I still love watching the reviews 👌 even though I already brought the car I wanted which is also my first Subaru.

      I would describe the power as adequate. It does make you drive like an old man. I'm 22 and drive a 2.5i Outback, but I do find that the power is fine, it's just not a performance rocket. I do think Subaru owners are the type of people that don't care or need to go sideways going 90 down a highway all the time, but I bet a little added power would be appreciated, especially since Subaru drivers are the type of people to take a lot of luggage and maybe head to the mountains, some additional power would be good

    Subaru AWD is full time with some front wheel bias, but rear is always 30% at least. Only the WRX and STI have 50/50 split (with some adjustability). Toyota AWD is FWD with an activating rear diff. I guarantee the Legacy's AWD will be MUCH better than the Camry. There are some videos online where people compared various SUVs in the snow and the Forester won, hands down. My current vehicle is a '14 Forester XT and my previous vehicle was a '09 Mistubishi Lancer Ralliart, which had a similar AWD setup as the Evo IX. In the snow, the Forester is a bit more reliable.

    • @Senvae
      @Senvae ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@epsilon4052 Yup, but anything with the CVT is using the newer systems which are slightly front biased. In most slippery conditions this is actually ideal. But having a rear diff activate all of a sudden when slipping, like the Toyota, does not feel as good or secure. I drove a friend's Sienna with AWD a few times and I found there was a couple of seconds where the rear engaging suddenly caused an unnecessary fishtail effect. Still useful to have it, but not as stable as full time AWD. Toyota (and many other manufacturers) do this to improve the MPG figures, which is useful for sales. When comparing the Legacy to the Camry AWD, customers could assume the AWD is similar but the MPG is better. They won't know the differences in the AWD system.

    • @epsilon4052
      @epsilon4052 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Senvae I’m not disagreeing at all. I think part time awd is kind of dumb. The key to being a good driver is being able to predict how your vehicle moves and adjust properly. Throw in that and all you can do is hope, at least at higher speeds.

    My 2021 Legacy Touring XT came with the all weather floor mats... and I promptly took them out and left them in the garage since I live in California. I've had it a year and a half now and the only time I really enjoy driving it is when I can floor it and get pushed back in my seat. It does pull hard after a second or two of lag. The rest of the time its kind of non-descript. I do appreciate it for a long highway drive (the seats are ridiculously comfortable and its very quiet), but its just not an exciting car. One thing that really bugs me is that at 5K miles it had an oil leak and spent a week and a half in the shop waiting on th repair kit. Came to find out that oil leaks at low miles are a common issue with the 2.4 turbo since it was introduced in the Ascent. Not very confidence inspiring in a new car.

    At time code 7:43 you talk about the lag. The lag is NOT caused by the CVT. It is caused by the turbocharger spinning up. How do I know this for a fact? On 12/30/2022 I traded in my 2017 Subaru Legacy Premium for a 2023 Subaru Legacy Sport. I live in the Rocky Mountains at about 10,000 feet above sea level. While not peppy, the 2017 Legacy pulled out on the the highway at a very uniform pace. It would then "gather speed" up to 65 over about 700 yards. The 2023 Sport pulls out on to the highway with virtually no power for the first 3 to 5 seconds until the turbocharger spins up and then it puts all that power to the wheels and I hit 65 mph in about 300 yards. The lag is definitely the turbocharger because without it, the 2.4 liter puts out very little power.
