Less than 300 hp can be easily managed with FWD, more than that becomes harder to control and AWD comes into place. I knew the Accord would win, hands down. The Subaru Engine is strong, but the CVT kills the performance and the AWD loses power to the wheels in performance testing. However, this race is pointless because no Legacy owner would buy one to race, they are mature, family cars, soft, comfy, roomy, smooth, stable, built for safety. The Accord still has that racy Honda vibe, it's more childish and surprinsingly fast for it's looks, it depends on what you want.
I own a 2021 Leagcy GT and it's a great car. Agree. Also if you wanna race then go get Golf GTI. Honda Accord is a good car but whether it goes faster than Legacy or not for me it does not matter, it's just not a race car

This is definitely an interesting video! I also love my legacy and I live in New England. Next they should try chaining the 2 together and see who pulls who. Not every subaru is a race car hahahaha
Also I’ve been noticing that most people don’t know how to properly use Subarus paddle shifters, there’s a special hidden “sport mode” that is activated whenever the paddles are used and it does indeed make the car pull harder…And believe it or not, it’s best used by leaving the cvt in regular D gear…..

Very nice comparison. It is not surprising because the Subaru only have 8 horse power more but it's a lot heavier and also the AWD will reduce some of the power going to the wheels. The Subaru needs 300 HP and a proper transmission and it will be an ideal everyday car in all weather conditions. They are genuinely built.
Thanks for doing this Sam. Subaru has been really disappointing lately. They have this stupid love affair with the CVT that has no sport mode. I drive an Ascent and it share common characteristics as the Legacy GT. Slow and slumbering. No drive modes and the CVT with the fake shifts programmed into it just plain sucks. The last time I had fun driving a cvt was my 2017 Forester XT with SI-Drive.
You say the Ascent is slow? The Atlas and the Telluride are also 7 seater Family SUVs and the Ascent has a turbo and faster than those cars. For it's category, the Ascent is actually faster.
@@phuzaxeman for it's category, the Ascent has more pep compared to its normally aspirated counterparts as it should because of the turbo. @@chrisg5101 please find where I compared the Ascent to be as fast as a car. My post is about how Subaru has been disappointing as of late. Except for the WRX and WRX STI Subaru have been de-sportifying their Cars. They stopped making Turbo charged Legacies and then started back because of public outcry but made them less performance than the GT/GT Spec b models and the GT models from the 5th generation. Then they stopped making Turbo Forresters. So there is a general theme of making their cars less performance oriented. While other companies have been increasing their power output Subaru has maintained the power on the STI @ 305 HP for 10 years.
No, it's not. Maybe for 2023, where the 'Sport' gets the 2.4T... but the plain XT Limited and Touring don't get it. And no, it wouldn't have even made a difference. Especially from 0.
This is shameful... Subaru Legacy GT was a legendary GT car esp the 4th gen. It had 260hp while having a pretty decent 5 speed auto or even better...the manual option. It would have spanked the modern GT and the Accord 2.0T... Basically a WRX in a GT body. This Legacy is as boring as the rest of Subies models now.
The Legacy CVT has a manual mode and paddle shifters. Why didn't you try them? I have a 2021 Legacy Touring XT (US trim name for the Canadian GT). It does make a difference.
I have a turbo Subaru with a CVT, and I find that it's a little faster when not simulating the shifts. Just let the revs sit at the peak power spot. For me, start in manual, first gear, once it gets to the top of the fake first gear drop it into drive and let the RPM sit at the peak. Not sure it would help in this situation though. Weight is clearly a huge factor in this outcome. Some models of CVT Subarus (or at least my Forester) have S and S# modes. In S#, it actually raises line pressure in the transmission considerably. It results in much quicker shifts and a much tighter feeling off the line.
I had a 2005 Legacy GT and it was amazing this is just sad what Subaru has done, the cvt is just trash and they won’t admit their mistake going with it
i agree with Sam. the legacy engine's good but that cvt is garbage. you can hear the slow fake gear shifts. overall, it performed better than expected cuz that accord wasn't really far off. race it against the tlx 2.0t
Cvts usually have a disadvantage from 0 and advantage once rolling, but since the gt was a cvt awd, the cvt cancelled the awd traction advantage from 0mph start.
Honda simple just makes the best compact engines and theyre producing better transmissions. The old 2.0 B, K and D series engines were already handling 500hp with custom turbos and that was before 2.0T became mainstream

One thing I noticed about my legacy xt, is if your just mat it, it will accelerate terrible. If you roll into it, it will accelerate a ton better. With that being said, I still think the accord would still outrun the legacy.
Yeah, learned that in my 2011 Leggy. Still would buy for the AWD and build, but speed is never gonna be it's thing... Which sucks. Still, that Accord is very impressive. Honda really built a sleeper.
I'm curious as to which of these would do better on an autocross track. I'm actually kinda surprised though the legacy was alittle more competitive than I thought. Those Accord 2.0 T's are fast.
The Accord doing better on the launch really surprised me. Either driver error or the way that Subaru is setup or whatever. Rest of it makes total sense.
You can't really brake torque that CVT. I have a 3.0r outback and I have the accord 2.0t until 45mph or so where he starts catching up again if I launch well. The legacy is bland. Also my outback has a horrible dead spot between 68mph and 80mph. It then hits harder and you can feel the timing change. But most cars with equal power catch up slightly around that speed and and then after 80mph it starts pulling again. Weird ass car. Might be something wrong with the VVT.
The legacy is an amazing package. The one thing that hurts it is the CVT. I owned a 20 GT and that’s its weakest link. Where it excels is a drag race if the road is even a little wet.
I had a Legacy non turbo and it was dangerously slow in the ramps, passing etc. Had to sell it after just 6 months and got me a Stinger GT line. Subaru was great on the snow though

Camry gets schooled all the time lol
@@joshuainnocent6956 that is what I would expect but it would be nice race!
Accords smokes them no point
One thing I noticed about my legacy xt, is if your just mat it, it will accelerate terrible. If you roll into it, it will accelerate a ton better. With that being said, I still think the accord would still outrun the legacy.
Yeah, learned that in my 2011 Leggy. Still would buy for the AWD and build, but speed is never gonna be it's thing... Which sucks. Still, that Accord is very impressive. Honda really built a sleeper.
U should do the 2.0t Altima vs the 2.0t accord
Why you don't use paddle shifters on Legacy?
Sam can is the GLI faster than a Forte GT?
Never underrepresente an accord 🤝🏽
I'd love to see you get another Accord that's been tuned with a ktuner and some bolt ons so we could see the difference.
Subaru so slow but looks 10x better than that accord
Did they clean the gauge screen with sandpaper? 😧
So how about the Accord 2.0t vs Hyundai Elantra N?
Why not use the manual mode on the Subaru, would that not improve performance?
Could you guys do the outback wilderness?
Legacy is too heavy & CVT doesn't help, so from start with this facts Legacy will lose in race no need to get in one to how will win.
You need to mannually shift the legacy. It holds the gears and acts as a manual using steering shifters.
I own a 2018 sport 2.0T one of the greatest car I ever owned
Legacy with 6MT would be ideal.... like a Spec B
I wish i had the 6MT instead of the 5MT on my B4 RSK but for a 25 years old car i still do the 0-100km in 5.3 sec.
Those fake shifts slow that legacy down.
Over 400lbs of extra weight doesn't help...
I've learned to squeeze a lot of fun out of my 2017 Legacy and it's paddle "shifters"
Did you all have the legacy xt with turbo?
If Subaru didn't have those fake shifts the Subaru probably wouldn't have been dropped as bad. Those fake shifts cut power terrible in the 2.4
If he brake boosted, it would hang at highest rpm without shifts. He just doesn't know ho to use this car properly.
Bro what are those wheels on that Accord??
Forged Spare R10's
Curious how the manual versions would've faired.
Oh no, why is the current Subaru Legacy getting slower and slower? Is the previous Legacy stronger (2013-2000)?😢
The accord is the best sedan period! Subaru is bad bad lol. They will discontinue this for sure lol
Hey Sam please do Kia Stinger gt vs Accord 10 speed 2.0t. Great content!
Stinger gt line would be a good race stinger gt would smoke the accord tho
Totally different classes but would be fun to see.
Why not? There's a video 2.0t gaping Stinger gt!
@@abulhashem-jc9mv lots of different factors. The races Sam facilitates underlines everything we need to know about the cars being pitted against each other. Random videos online usually leaves it to the viewers imagination to make conclusions.
@@Jojoboogie th-cam.com/video/6MJa9qCGit0/w-d-xo.html look here 2.0t with just intake gapping Stinger gt 3.3t lol
This Accord will beat the new TLX as well.
Save $10k and get touchscreen too over the TLX.
what taillights do you have on the accord
I just bought the 2021 legacy touring XT, love it, I'm not about speed , I love the interior, very neat, comfortability and all the other options that car comes with, to many to list
400 lb weight differential. No mystery as to which car is quicker. But surprisingly the Outback, for whatever reason is a little quicker than the Legacy?
Did you guys brake Torque both cars off the line because I know on the Subaru CVT it goes into a different launch mode when you do that
