Thank you, I had been trying to find the perfect ratios and think you nailed it. I think people need to accept the Pina Cola is not a rum forward drink but an easy going crowd pleaser. I tried making one recently with Appleton 8 and it was delicious, but that's becuase I love rum. I imagine it could be too punchy for many

Exactly that. The 5% of real Rum fans forget that actually the 95% don’t want a really punchy Jamaican Rum. I mean, we love it. But average Joe deffo doesn’t. 😂

Plantation 3 Star rum is my basic rum for piña coladas.
I also use Probitas, Appleton Signature, Plantation original dark, Doorly's 12, or Smith & Cross navy strength.

Totally agree on the rum, with white rum it largely becomes an alcoholic fruit drink with practically no rum taste. I do like playing with a few spiced rums, plantation pineapple, Discarded Banana and by sheer desperation of what to do with it Twin Fin spiced gold which is awesome. It now has a purpose in life 😆.
A blind tasting with a few friends is a must, appreciate all your tips.

best is homemade cream of coconut (we should call it coconut syrup by the way) using coconut milk + sugar + salt. Disagree with the rum choice, love Appleton Signature. drop the oat milk, use a tiny bit of xanthan gum for the texture/consistency

Agree on the Xanthum Gum if homeamde Cream of Coconut. However, most branded Cream of Coconut have Stabilisers (Xantham or equivalents) in them, so no need for extra. Like the Monin Le Fruit, Reál and ODK. 👍️

@StevetheBarmanUK I've been watching your videos searching for a particular rum. I recently ordered a mojito on the beach in Mexico specifying Flor de Cana. What I got was a funky medicinal tasting clove/nutmeg/cinnamon forward drink. At first I was trying to figure out what the freak I got. The more I drank the more I really liked the flavors. I placed the same order specifying FdC and got the same funky drink. I ordered a few more that day and never got the same drink. The bartender I spoke with had no idea. Now I'm craving that funky mojito. I've been buying bottles of spiced rum searching for that flavor to no avail. Tried Brinley Gold spiced, Bayou spiced, Kraken, even Captain Morgan. Nothing has come close. I can't find Chairman Reserve spiced so far, but it's my next one. Any help please.

Adding acid to piña colada really is a big difference. There is a video about piña colada using acid-adjusted pineapple juice.

Here in Chicago we can get Dole 100% NOT from concentrate, no added sugar.
Also Lakewood Organic Fresh Pressed Juice Pure Pineapple
Some supermarkets press their own juices in store and it's cheaper.

Hey Steve, I just had me a gorrrrrrrgeous rum and coke, let me tell you about it.
First of all, is Pyrat rum available in the UK? Ratios aside, the combination I just had was diet coke with Pyrat rum and fresh squeezed lemon.
The ratios I used (which I doubt you'll like) were 1oz rum, 12oz coke, and a lemon wedge or 1 quarter of lemon.
Definitely the best rum and coke I've ever had.

I've used your saline tip in some cocktails for awhile now. I need to do a side by side to check the difference.
I haven't been able to find xanthan gum in the stores yet but I understand 1/4 teaspoon keeps the blend from separating.
My recipe is similar and my wife and guests love it.
    2 Plantation 3 Stars
    2 Pineapple Juice
1 Creme of Coconut (ODK and Monin C of C aren't to be found yet so Réal for now.)
    1/4 Lime Juice
1/8 Orgeat (adds a subtle nuttiness to the coconut)
    5 drops saline.
I use Pusser's GP for my Painkiller which is almost the same but 1 pineapple and 1 orange with lemon juice instead of lime.

      @StevetheBarmanUK  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Xanthan Gum isn't that necesarry depenidng on some of the Coconut Proucts, as they already have stabilisers added to them. So you'd only really need it if you had homemade Coconut. (Mine separated as videos like that take about 45-60 mins to film. YYou'd drink one waaaay before that.

On a somewhat related topic, for giggles you can make a crystal clear Pina Colada if you use Aluna coconut rum, De Kuyper Pineapple liqueur and Supasawa to the usual 6:3:2 sour template.

Love your channel, but Unfortunately I can't find either of the rums you picked as winners over here in the Netherlands. Would have loved to try your actual recipe
I'm a bit disappointed about the advice for Monin. That's 75% sugar plus condensed milk and a bunch of chemicals with maybe some coconut. Coco Real is made of coconut concentrate plus chemicals and also more than 75% of it is sugar.
While Coco Lopez claims to be made from equal weight of coconut meat pulp and sugar to help with the extraction. Plus some chemicals to stop it from separating.
Feels like Coco Lopez would be the authentic thing with the least chemicals while Monin and Real try to replicate the product and make it cheaper by adding more sugar and probably more chemicals. Even so, the Monin bottle was insanely expensive and Coco Real is also a lot more expensive than Coco Lopez.
I was also hoping for shelf stable, but the Monin label suggests it's only good after opening for 4 weeks. Although Coco Real claims to be the good for 3 months and it contains the same preservative.

Coco Lopez is the cheapest and the best.. and one little can will last 100 years of making Pina Collada.. only use a teaspoon per glass.. then back in the freezer.. this guy is just making a mountain out of a mole hill.. just get 3 oz of Pinapple Juice, teaspoon of Coco Loppez, 3 oz of white rum, mix with crushed ice in a mixer blender.. add a cherry or slice of pinapple.. enjoy.(some like half-half for creamy goodness)

Heh bud , my old pina colada recipe
Havana 3 year old, monin coconut puree, pressed pineapple juice, lime juice and touch of orgeat
I will be trying the saline addition.
Recently got Real Coconut. Must try one with that. Ive used the ODK before also. Decent product also.
I Had a can of coco lopez but never had the oppurtunity to use it as it needs to be all used up straight away so it just ended up going out of date 🥲
