Can I use Powerwall without solar? I would like to connect directly to the grid to charge it and have it as a backup generator.
Thanks for watching! Yes, you can order Powerwall without solar and it can be grid charged. Powerwall is the best backup generator. Love the Storm Watch feature! th-cam.com/video/AEar3PwprNc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0gXfKF5n88eICpTm

Powerwall is great, this video, not as much, I can read the website as well.
Thanks for watching!
This was a quick intro to PW3. Check out my Solar and PW playlist for real world data and owner experience from my PW2 which I've owned for over 2.5 years now. th-cam.com/play/PLftZM83MNEFnCg9HIHkTeLR7_uj8OJ9UM.html
Well presented!!!
Thanks for watching!
Hi thanks for the great video! I was trying to find out if I could charge this via solar and wind?
Thanks for watching! If you have Tesla solar then def a yes, unsure about other solar and wind.
Just wanted to make sure!
So if my battery dies after 10 years do I have to buy the whole unit including inverter as well??
What you need to replace the system depends on what is actually broken and what is working and whether or not the working components are still compatible with new components. A lot can and will change in 10 years. Here is the warranty information straight from Tesla. digitalassets.tesla.com/tesla-contents/image/upload/Powerwall_Warranty_US-EN.pdf
I have a CT on order. Will it work as a backup generator? What will be the cost to connect the switch to our home panel. I already have a MS and a 220V connection for home charging.
Thanks for watching! If you have a CyberBeast then that includes installation of the universal wall connector which I think is all you need for the home backup capability. Powerwall does this without having to have your CT connected to your home.
@@TeslaFamilyChannel Thank you. I was looking for a electrical backup during inclement weather, which is rather rare here.
@@robkeshav800 the best move for electrical backup during inclement weather is 100% adding Powerwall/s. Storm Watch is a nice feature that ensures your Powerwall is ready to back you up when the weather takes down the grid.
Can power wall be used ( Without solar ) as a home UPS? In other words, to protect the home electrical devices from low voltage, and high voltage power surges.
Thanks for watching! Yes, Powerwall instantly kicks in to provide backup power the moment an outage is detected. The only way you know there is an outage in your area is by seeing no lights on at any of your neighbors homes!
If I already have panels installed without a powerwall, and then add this powrwall3, will I lose nem 2.0? I thought the powerwall doesn’t affect nem 2.0 but I guess it changes the design technically?
Thanks for watching! I'm not sure your exact situation with your utility but I started with just Tesla Solar panels and added a Powerwall 15 months later. That did not impact my net metering here in Maryland. I can still push and pull excess from the grid when not sending it to my PW or my Model 3.
No, it will not. You get bumped only if you add more than 1kw or 10% of the arrays rated generation capacity. However, as panels lose efficiency you can add more. For example, if you installed 10 kw system, you can add 1kw for a total of 11. But, if your system is actually only producing 9kw you can add 2 more. Just add the battery first, so you get a good idea about your generation cap. You can always add to your array in the future.
I want to install these inside instead of outside. It gets up to 115 degrees where I live. I'm afraid the harsh weather would cause them to become inoperable sooner, and I need them to last over 30 years just as a backup for outages. Would it be possible to install these inside on a kitchen wall?
Thanks for watching! That's a great question for a Tesla Energy Advisor and depends on your local building codes. Here in MD, I have mine inside my garage but I'm unsure if you can put them inside the living space of a home. They are rated for up to 122F outside.
@@TeslaFamilyChannel Is your main service panel in the garage? I have a main service panel that's over sixty feet away from my garage. But the subpanel is in my garage. I could put the batteries in there if the batteries don't need to be next to the main service panel or meter.
@@Constitution1789 No Main Service Panel is in the basement.
And my PW is separated from the main panel. So Tesla can run the conduit between your main panel and wherever your PWs are installed.
@@TeslaFamilyChannel Interesting. I'll use your code when I get the PWs. 👍
Can we go off grid with this power wall ?
Thanks for watching! Yes, with solar combined there is a setting that allows you to go off grid with powerwall but I think you still need to at least be connected to the grid even if you are not drawing from the grid. To be completely "off grid-like" depends on your daily electric usage compared to how large of a solar array you have and the number of Powerwalls you have.
Tesla should finance all their products with 0% interest
Thanks for watching! I agree 100%!
also 3 x the price of same capacity LiFe batteries
Thanks for watching!
Tesla improved the specs and materials but made a HUGE mistake by integrating the inverter with the battery instead of making it a modular system. Greed got the best of them however. They should have at the very least stayed with the Powerwall 2+ configuration of a separate inverter. There are reasons why major manufacturers are making their systems fully modular now. Even one larger battery is NOT a "whole home backup" and many people will want multiple larger batteries. However, when you want a second PW3 battery you will have to pay for an extra inverter you may or may not need. When you could have paid half the price or less with other brands for just the batteries alone. Sure, you may want a second inverter but you may not and after your second PW3 the need for more inverters tapers off quite significantly. My system has 2x 12kW inverters and 6x 15.5kWh batteries (93kWh) for TRUE "whole home backup." During the summer I use an average of 60kWh of that capacity during my daily time of use period which is 6 hours long at over 100 degree temperatures. My system costs a RIDICULOUS amount less than a PW3 setup of 8x batteries which is what it would take to match my current battery capacity. I had to extrapolate off Tesla's site since they only have an option for 6x units. But a PW3 system of 8x units would cost at least $60,000 before taxes. Uh, NO!!!!!!! Not to mention I would have 6x needless PW3 Inverters expending energy because you probably can't disable them (I could be wrong). My inverters and batteries cost $29,000 and that's rounding up. PW3 is for the stupidly rich, plain stupid people or for people with smaller homes that require temporary backup. It still will not be true "whole home backup" as many people have learned the hard way with previous PW generations.
I thought I read you could scale up the PW3 with a variant which doesn't have the built in inverters & gateways ?
@@jeffgorchynski OK, if that is true then that is great. I will try to find out more info on this. When pricing the max of 6x units though I did not see any option to remove multiple inverters. If you can do this, question then becomes how much are they charging for just the battery? Then you are wasting space too because the outer housing of the PW3 is one piece, not modular from what I can see. Unless they make a separate housing.
Another problem is that they are not small units, My batteries are larger in capacity yet more compact. They may stick out further off the wall than a PW3 but I can fit a lot more side by side.
Thanks for watching and sharing this view! On my PW2 the gateway inverter is mounted to the outside of my home while the actual PW is mounted in my garage. The one great benefit of a Tesla PW is the integration with the Tesla vehicles and Solar. Charge on Solar allows me to charge my Model 3 with excess solar which I love.
In the third quarter of this year, Tesla will release what they call the DC expansion, which is a 13.5 battery only that can be stacked with a powerwall 3, up to 3 expanders per powerwall. They haven't released the price, but should be much less because the expanders won't include the expensive inverter.
@@tweeds638 Thanks so much for passing along this updated info!
Ya, not sure why you felt the need to just read a website to me.... Not my kind of content.
Thanks for watching! I did show my PW but more importantly, I also shared that I have 40 solar and Powerwall videos on my playlist. Those actually contain real world data from my system. For PW3, I just wanted to quickly introduce it to those who might not be automatically navigating to Tesla.com.
What if your taxes are less than $4,000???? lol
Great question! I'm pretty sure you need to have income taxes in excess of the credit amount to get the full credit.
I believe it can be rolled over into multiple years.
