Also helps to remove any water with alcohol that evaporate, so it wont short circuit. Same thing applies to for instance phones. Even if its not waterproof just take it apart much as possible hence batteries need to be easily replaceable flush any crap out with clean water, distilled if possible, shake any water that may be out, let it dry couple days or just go for alcohol flush, let it dry, charge it and start it. Most cases phone or what ever works fine afterwards. Biggest mistake is to let it sit water inside for long period of time, that is what wrecks the circuit boards, specially the multi level micro component ones, hence why old tech is better, least you can fix it with normal soldering iron and dont need expensive microscope and hot air station... given ether way you know what you are doing that is...

My first thought was: ya know, Ike actually fits in this thing! So many builds an poor Ike is usually so uncomfortable or way too big for some tiny little minibike or kid- sized go-kart. It looked like he was relieving 9 months frustration out there! Go Ike, so happy for you!

Would love to see some lawn mower revival/race conversion content, and would love to see some Trophy Kart improvements! You may already know, but you can use an electric hydraulic power steering pump from an old Toyota MR2, if you want to add power steering. It's very compact and doesn't draw a ton of power. They aren't really cheap anymore unless you can get one from a junkyard, but it would be a worthwhile investment to make the Trophy Kart easier to handle. It would also be worthwhile to disassemble the ECU again to clean it up, coat the PCB with some hot glue, seal the case with some RTV, and coat the connector with some dielectric grease.

Electronics generally dont mind water too much *assuming they are completely powered off* when they get wet. Over a year ago my PC wouldnt start one morning and when I looked inside, the motherboard was completely soaked from a leaking waterblock, presumably it sat all night under water(horizontal mobo). After taking it out and drying all the sockets with a dryer then rinsing with the board with alcohol and letting it sit overnight it powered right up and still works fine today :).

For power steering you can do like Derek over at VGG did on the old race truck that he uses for burnouts. I don't recall just what car the pump came off of but it is a stock electric power steering pump.
Went to check on the pump, it's from a Volvo, he didn't mention which model but tells how he mounted it and powered it. The third episode off the build series.
The race truck/burnout machine has no alternator or fan belts. Everything is electric powered.

Very nice 71-72 John Deere 112. They are tanks. With the small 39 mower deck they also do a great job mowing.
My 69 is original orange and white with a Tecumseh.
The 112 is just a model number. My 112 is 10 hp, the 110 is 7, 8 or 10 hp gear driven. 120 was 12 hp hydrostatic, the 140 was 12 or 14hp hydrostatic depending on the year.
Everything was kohler except the 112 which started as a had a hh110 and that remained an option in the early models. The original kohler was 10hp but was replaced by the 12hp with a 1 year overlap with 3 engine options.
Don’t build it into anything, I’ll help you with parts to keep it original.

The ignition being a separate system is pretty common on OBD1 and early OBD2 vehicles. Stuff like the early EFI hondas, Jeep YJs/XJs, and Chevy Vortec would use a distributor system but in this case it's likely a hal sensor or magneto CDI with some form of vacuum or electronic advance via ecm. Easy to carburate, even easier to design your own ECM using a RasPi or Arduino, or get lucky and score a PowerCommander or AEM FI for cheap lol

Gentlemen, please....do not modify the JD 112. The 110/112 from that era (1968-197?) is a super solid, quality piece worthy of complete restoration. My good friend has a 1968 110 model that runs like it's new. The gear under the swing out gate is a super low....with that gear engaged and the variator drive in low, it will idle happily at 750 and move slower than a snail. I took a video of my friends as proof because it's hilarious. Real bummed to see more stuff destroyed by the weird weather, but glad to see you guys tackle the cleanup full throttle. Good luck!

I sell trailer parts, amongst other things for boat trailers. And i've learned that the first step when something has been contaminated with salt water is to wash the thing off with fresh water, otherwise it will rust to hell everytime it gets a bit moist or wet since everything is covered with salt. We even used to sell hosekits that you hook up to the drums to easily wash the insides of them out if the trailer is used to launch a boat in saltwater. So i'd hose those two down properly ASAP, or the rusting will continue.

Yes, finish the Trophy cart. I hope by now Ike has got his research hat on and read up on the Ford Twin I beam, among the few factory users. That was where I started looking for a less complicated but reliable FE with minimal caster and camber changes; the Twin I beam, operated with 30" arms will give a no caster change and less than a degree and a half camber over the plus or minus two inch travel. And power steering would be really nice- she's a brute! And get some boat anchors on her!

I worked at an electronic manufacturer for 15+ years. If you go online and get a can of conformal coating, clean the ECU with isopropyl and a toothbrush best you can, dry it off and coat with conformal coating. It will protect from moisture and stop the corrosion, and humidity problems for years to come. (Do not get on the connector pins).

That JD is in the 100 series garden tractor line. The JD 112 were made from 1966 -1967 with removable Round Fenders and a 10HP Tecumseh 388cc engine. From 1968 - 1974 they had flat fenders incorporated in to a stamped metal pan. These models had a 10HP 390cc Kohler engine. At the end of the 112 line and the start of the 120 model they moved over to a 12Hp 476cc engine. They are pretty common not rare at all like the 1963 JD110 and 1964 JD110. But for a mower that is not made out of tin they are worth keeping around.

The TK needs some squarer tires on it, like Bearclaws. They won't break the bank either. You can get 25x12's too. Way more tire contact than what you have with those balloon tires. You might have 5 inches of contact with the current tires. That 112 is way to nice and original to cut up. I think the best thing would be some new tires, and to get it running. Maybe find a nice deck for it. I would not paint it. Great job guys!

For computer components that get soaked and dirty- wash them with Isopropyl Alcohol. It displaces water, and is electrical safe. It will push the water out from under the IC's and out of relays, and dries quickly with no residue. Just a tip from someone who used to fix electronics on a regular basis.

Just hit the ECU with some electronics cleaner/deoxid and a toothbrush, or vinegar and a toothbrush if you rinse it good after. Follow with a rinse of rubbing alcohol and it should be as good as new. Ideally finish it with a spray of electronics laquer/conformal coating, and it should be much more water resistant.
