I CRASHED Our 750cc Cross Kart | High Speed 180, Broken Parts, Totaled??

- The custom 750cc cross kart we built took a BEATING- first, I crashed it into a row of small trees, doing a 180, bending a front rim and breaking one of the tie rods. We managed to get it fixed, then I busted the oil pan on a rock trying to beat the CarsandCameras Grand Prix record! We'll keep our eyes open for a new oil pan for the 1982 Honda CB750 engine we used on this project, but I really want to retire the cross kart for a few months while we gather new parts to completely rebuild the front suspension for more travel and better damping, better brakes, and installing a newer, more powerful engine than the tired old Honda currently in the cross kart.

Okay, the CrossCart has been around long enough, John keeps doing it, for love of safety, either teach John how to shift with his left hand, or just move the shift lever to the right side. There's no good reason John should be taking his right hand off of the wheel, crossing over, or under his other arm, just to shift.

When you get a new motor, you need to put a skid plate under it to keep that from happening again.
remount the motor .25-.5" above the bottom roll bar too

Yeah, very poor design with the engine block sticking out the frame (a lot) and no skid plate.

John, you need to crash more often. I lived it when ike rolls up on the little moster truck and says need some help? Ok, you guys got me... I'm going to order a t shirt! Im 56 years young and enjoy your chanel.
Swap in the new 2-stroke 670, then you can redo the shift linkage so you won't have to cross your arm over. Also, you'll get reverse, and while you're at it you can rebuild the front end, and do taller tires when you do so. Taller tires will help with ground clearance, improve the aesthetic, improve the shock absorption, and when you were building it originally you didn't bother to get the factory speedometer working because you said that taller tires in the future would make it inaccurate. It's almost like it was meant to be.

I think the next project they need to build is a m274 mule 4x4 or 6x6 diesel with reverse equipped with tool body (basically 2 rolling toolboxes turned back to back with a recovery tow arm stuck between them (variant of under reach) possibly also having a high boom, utilizing a 65+ amp alternator (to power work lights as well as act as a generator and jumpstarting platform) at least dual deep cycle batteries with a large hardwired power inverter (1200+ watts) with front and rear winches, with a service trailer equipped with a flux core welder (for trailside repairs as you don't have to worry about or fight with your shielding gas getting blown away when it's windy), an air compressor with air tank and drier for air tools, as well as stocked with all hard and flex lines, hoses with clamps, spare belts, spare hardware, etc. While I was in the army we had a humvee equipped as a service/tool truck with a service/tool trailer, and if that didn't have the tools to fix it we'd drop the fresh from the pls truck (not lhs (4axle) truck as it had 5 drive axles 3 were steer axles (2front & the1rearmost) and a much higher load weight lift capacity).

There’s a replacement oil pan cover on eBay for $60, so you can save the CB750 engine.

Might be time to clean out the sides of your track so you have a larger rough area if you swing out of your ideal line and not break stuff.

Man seeing Ike upset about it makes me so sad. If you put some bigger tyres on it and you will get a bit of extra ride height. I mean thats racing but you can really tell that Ike loved this thing. Looking forward to seeing the next iteration!

I have a mid 80’s CB 900 engine that I’d be willing to let go of. I’m pretty sure same physical engine dimensions, just bigger CC’s so it’d be an easy swap out.

I've been advocating for much taller rear tires since the beginning. It would have prevented this (especially with a skid plate). ;)

Glad John is alright. I would highly recommend atv knuckle and tires. Maybe even A arms. Also switch the shifter to the other side so y'all are not reaching over to shift. This is a good reason to upgrade the engine and make a skid plate. Build, race, break, upgrade, repeat.
John crashes once, keeps going on minor, crashes twice. Fixes it. Gets tie record, still not good enough needs to go again! Hahaha loved it ! Glad your ok John! It'll be fine

If I were you I would strip it down just to make sure you didn't even if want to put a more powerful engine in. He was really lucky when he crashed,there could of been a branch sticking out sideways and could of impaled him. Maybe go round the whole track and trim all the branches facing out towards the track. Just a thought,you can't be too safe.

I've been reading comments and yours is the first that is in line with what I've been thinking for some time. A skid plate. Clearly they've done a great job at protecting the driver. Now work on protecting the engine. It's not a circle track machine, it's an off roader.... Just read the next comment. SKID PLATE SKID PLATE. Should have read a little farther. Lol

Said it in the beginning it lacks some basic safety features for something built to be driven hard... eg. side panels and possibly plexi windscreen (removable).
Overall always good to see you guys having fun and getting through the projects, also don't neglect same safety stuff until my kids or someone else is going in it
I would suggest keeping this engine, i love the sound of this one and it is already very powerful.
