Thanks for the advice! This motor is set up for pump gas so it's as easy as it gets without a compression release. I'm confident I can get it going with he timing properly set. I haven't had a problem starting 500's in the past.
Mmm...something to consider...I blame it on my mechanicship... I thought about pull starting but the way the timing is it would try to run backwards and destroy itself lol.
Thank you for the advice! I did not have a dial indicator thought I could get close using stock flywheel. HPI wants 2mm or .080" before top dead center. After getting the correct tool I was able to get her lit (check my most recent short) after retarding it a few more degrees. What a BEAST!
@jasonmushmansixtyfive no problem I got to do the same on my 1985 cr500 it's got week spark the cdi is messed up hpi seems to be the easiest fix rather than going to the 2001 250 or 500 ignition system
Dang it! You'll get there man!
Love this build, man. Do yourself a favor. Google CR500 compression release. Did it to my KX500 and my IT490 and it's an absolute foot/shin saver.
Thanks for the advice!

Fresh gas helps too. Mine is a bear to start if the gas sits in the tank for more than a month. Otherwise pull start it. Will fire right up

Go back to your directions you have to set the timing on the hpi a very specific way there's lots of kids on here to show you how to do it

For sure cheap and easy. I imagine it would work with many weird applications too...so universal!
Where did you buy this? How much did it cost? Just curious as to why you didn't buy the MSVRACING Fareday Stator?
Not sure what it cost as the owner provided...I'm thinking $150...
Why should we buy the MSV one?
