The Early Days of ATV Racing
I give my thoughts on the early racing modifications and machines that racers and aftermarket companies came up with in the late '70's and early '80's

We went to this prestigious, invite only, end of the year celebration. Usually a day filled with multiple races and multiple classes turned into a 2 hr hard enduro. I'm not sure if it was voted on this year but I bet it will be next lol. With sections named for local legends (Brady's Beer Garden, Brian's Tree Hug, Miller's Rim, Devils Anus Etc) the track was formidable and 3 miles long. Mud, ju...

Some local good ol' boys asked on their Facebook if anyone wanted to call the Saxeville 500 race. Let me think about it..yes! This is a ultra-grassrooots racing event that had to be capped @ 40 cars because it was getting so popular. Only a few rules apply and the car cost has to be $1000 or less. Check back for a fall race! I also took my Tecate 3 on a parade lap. events/s/saxevil...

Keep them coming.
I started with a 73 90....then tricked out a '80 110 to the max with 125cc bore, ported head, cam, 26 Mikuni, intake and full header, Dura Blue axle, frame stiffeners and the ever needed matching seat and headlight cover combo with gold wheels and low profile rear tires. Then jumped to a 82 250R with mods, 84 200X and then an '85 250R with a Turner motor and pipe that was killer! God I loved Three Wheelers and when the Quad came I just hated the feel and the crap front suspension. Lawyers SUCK!.... ruined three wheeling.

Hello! 👋
Hey man just discovered you through another channel, great videos!
Thank you! Pop Wheelies!
We are getting EMPed but it's not from our perceived enemies it's from the Sun.
Dude that's the smartest s*** I've Heard a tuber say in a while about the EMP stuff, mostly only people that are posting in that area of discussion. It seems as though people in other genres are fearful. I give you credit for at least mentioning the common sense possibility.
New sub, beautiful Banshee. Those special additions are so nice.
Thank you for the sub and comment! I wish I could claim this one but it is a friend's Banshee. I agree they are sweet!
You showed that bike starting instantly while the carburetor shad they fueled up yet. Maybe just a touch to little over stated
My reaction is genuine. The carbs were completely rebuilt, new spark plugs, new battery and fresh fuel in basically a brand new motorcycle should give these results every time. The way the exhaust was smoking after I shut the bike off said alot? Thank you for watching!
Theese old 650 Nighthawke are so easy to start. I got the same reaction when my did the same. I just hit the button to se if the starter worked, and it fired right up. You do not think it's possible.
Um it’s fake I see your other leg…
My plans are foiled!
Are we working in the dark
😂 I had it dark so you couldn't see the spark that wasn't there. Plus it's nice ambiance. Thanks for the comment!
cant wait till i finish restoring my 85
They are a fun bike! Thanks for watching!
Thanks bro for sharing your experience. I am sharing your message with many people. Tbi affects a lot of people in racing and we all need to be more aware. Keep lining up bro.
Thank you! Pop Wheelies!
Love the starting sequence for the 185s LOL.
It starts well most times! 🏁
Just need to get the DS 80 in the shop now!

Hey could you drop a link on where you got the fusible link (or what it’s called)? Best!
www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/dorman-conduct-tite/lighting---electrical/fuses---flashers/fusible-link/12af23bde667/dorman-conduct-tite-16-gauge-fusible-link-universal/cti0/85627?pos=6 I used something like this. It takes a regular automobile blade fuse so even if you don't have one there should be one close. Thanks for the comment! Pop Wheelies!
Is frame powder coated? If so grind the powder off where could mounts, that could be your weak spark issue.
I ensured the grounds were clean. Both the stator and coil tested bad. I replaced with new which is the only way to test the CDI. Now looking for CDI.

Selvy made counterbalanced cases for the 500
Those would be a must on a 4 wheeler although I've seen them campaigned successfully rattling the ever living chit out of their riders lol! Thanks and pop wheelies!
'Em two strokes may be dirty bitches but we like em a lot.
Oh yeah baby, that trike is gonna be scary fast!
Love the bare vapor blast finish with black covers. Sweet!
Thank you! Going to pick up crankshaft tomorrow!
The engine your tearing down in a 1986 kx250 engine.
Hmmm...the T4 and this one are very similar but I will find out for sure. New video coming soon!
@jasonmushmansixtyfive they are similar, the t4 engine is counter balanced, the kx isn't, I actually have a 86 kx engine in my T4, the lower mount on the frame has to be redone, custom front mounts have to be made, and custom spacers made for the swing arm pivot. If it's all done right the t4 pipe fits perfectly. It does vibrate a lot though.
@@courseydl interesting info thank you!
@jasonmushmansixtyfive also the kick start shaft will have to be extended to work in a t4. I believe the 86 kx engine is identical to the 2nd gen (86&87) t3.
Forgive me this is a Tecate 3 engine.
what happend to the upload? why is it a landscape video in a portrait forfait i think something went wrong makes it really TINY on a computer to watch

Thank you buddy!
When u get a chance should make a engine stand out of scrap make a video out of it something to do
Tumuchi. No guuuudddd!!

That engine your tearing down is actually a 86 kx250 engine.
Some how the trx250 here in Texas now that’s crazy!!!

You have any extra parts for it?
I have a few extra kickstart gears and parts from my 85
Might keep them or give them to me lol either way.

@@jasonmushmansixtyfive How would one go about doing that?

Thank you buddy.
How much does a this cost to have done?
He said every project is different I think I paid a couple hundred bucks.
@@jasonmushmansixtyfive where did you get yours done? I just decided to redo a 1986 cr125 back to original and I need to find someone who does this

Difficile fare peggio. La fascia del pistone? La lucidatura dello stelo? La pulizia dello spillo? Lo spurgo dell’aria ? Lo scarico dell’olio in eccesso per mettere a riposo il polmone? Naa, non ci siamo proprio!
You don’t measure the bore from the top edge, it never wears there.
I did this just to get a rough estimate before i got the number off the piston. This piston is the 1st over 89.50mm stock is 89.00mm Thank you for the comment!
I just found your channel from 2vintage. This is the first video I've watched on your channel. Thank God your alive after the crash back then I'm looking forward to more videos from you. I've just subscribed. God bless you and prayers go out to you.
Thank you for the kind words! Best wishes and wheelies to you!
Jason, I’m very sorry for your crash. 5-7-06 was terrible for both of us, mine a car crash. We are more similar than any one would know. From pain, sleep issues, memory issues. You know the roller coaster we are on. If there’s ever anything I can help you with, please don’t be afraid to ask. I wish you the absolute best at everything you do!
Thank you so much! Sorry to hear about your accident. It's nice to hear from peers although the situation sucks. Only the strong survive and we have proved stronger than most...and continue to... I hope all the best for you too!
An awesome bike.
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your story. I raced motocross when I was younger and also had several injuries including concussions. Like you I still love riding, but don't race anymore. I couldn't agree more about the best helmet you can afford.
Thank you for the comment! I don't "race" anymore but still love competing with my buddy's on hard tail 3 wheelers. We missed out this year there was no ice for our grand prix grudge race. Next time I need to beat Bubba lol good times. Pop Wheelies Buddy!
Thank you for sharing your story, hearing your story really helps me to value every little thing. I hope that you continue to heal. By the way I have read many scientific studies on the benefit of and known of a few cases of people with traumatic brain injury that have done sessions of hyperbaric chamber therapy and have had great improvement with it, even many years after the accidents. You may have already looked into it, if not maby you could look into it and consider it. You are a champ, keep up the good work!!!
Thank you so much for the kind comment! I am always evaluating new options. Looks like I have another! 😎
Thanks 4 sharing your story 💯 Take care keep enjoying your hobbies I respect you a lot

Just sold my 85, keeping my 89..💪👍
How does the 89 run compared to the 85? Most people say the 85 is a turd but mine feels strong. I would love to ride all of the different ones to experience all the differences! Thanks for the comment!
@@jasonmushmansixtyfive My 85 was a low ender, hits hard and signs off. Tight moto tracks are good for it. 89 mid to top, bigger tracks and double jumps are a blast. HPP Is a pain to adjust and top end replacement is almost as bad as a 4 stroke rebuild. Fun bike, watch the forks, very difficult to rebuild. Keep on riding Hoss.🤠👍

Cool video Jason! My first 250 was a 1976 RM250 way back in the day. It was a basket case when I first got it, but my Dad helped me fix it and put it back together. It was pretty powerful for an old 250!
Thank you Michael! What a great feeling!
