The great thing about using the silicone mats when freeze drying is the mats bend, and it makes it so much easier to put whatever you have on the mat, into jars or bags, using the funnels to guide it in!
Hello Jessica, a variant of eating kohlrabi. Peel the kohlrabi, cut slices about 1.5cm thick, blanch them for 3 minutes, let them cool slightly and coat them like a schnitzel in flour, egg and bread crumbs, fry them in a pan with oil and butter. Absolutely delicious, you can also make it with cauliflower. Yummy Kind regards from Germany Claudia
I recently found your channel through the #everybitcounts challenge and so happy I did. I’ve been watching some back episodes and look forward to continuing with you on your journey. I lived in Alaska when I was young and it holds a special place in my family’s heart. Your garden looks amazing!!!
I'm finding that I am being unsubscribed from many channels lately, although I'm still receiving notifications. I really enjoy watching your channel. Thanks for sharing your life. 😊
I never would have thought your cauliflower would grow that big with your weather in Alaska. It looks beautiful. Two suggestions, Powder your eggs, it will measure more accurately and use fewer bags or jars. Second, in jars or bags that size, you should use 2 or 3 oxygen absorbers if they are only 100 cc. Through years of freeze drying, I got to where in a quart bag i always do 200 cc. I don't even order 100 cc anymore. It's important for getting all the air out. Great video.
that was a fun video. thanks. I am a subscriber and am getting notifications but at this time of year I find that my favorite homestead channels are pumping out so many videos that I can't keep up, so I don't catch everyone on the day it premieres. I am doing my own mini version of the every bit counts challenge and enjoying watching what everyone is doing. Great looking cauliflower!
If you leave cabbage plants in the ground after harvesting the heads, they can regrow tiny little cabbages. Leave one or two and see if it works for you. It does for me.
I too try to do every bit challenges. My string beans are not quite ready, but a friend gave me some of her extras last night and I got 9 pts. Rather than starting the canner for just 9 pints I also got 4 pts summer squash and got 5 pts of cabbage. Feels good to put up garden fresh produce. I also freeze dried 6 lbs of cabbage and got 6 qts. Looking forward to more broccoli, other kinds of squash, tomatoes, potatoes and sweet potatoes. Not sure if you tried freeze drying zucchini. I made zucchini chips with the mandolin and added salt, pepper and garlic powder. I also tried freeze drying cucumber chips with kosher salt and just snack on them dry. Yum!
I love your garden! You are so knowledgeable and I learn so much from you, rolling table is gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing all of your adventures, recipes, harvesting and homestead with us. God bless all of you!❤❤

Gmorning Jessica. Lovely harvest. I so miss not having a garden this year, due to getting our new homestead set up. But did can a bunch of salmon the other day then yesterday foraged wild blueberries and raspberries for the freezer. So although I haven’t managed putting something away everyday…I am doing some. Thank you for your inspiration 🌷🇨🇦
Jessica. I don't know if it is just me but I think your garden this year is so much more prolific than other years. I think I need to go to those garden classes if this is the result. Congratulations on the 30K subscribers!! Love all you videos this month. Hello from Blanco.
Hi Jessica and sweet family! The beautiful bounty from your garden keeps you busy, but what a blessing to be able to grow and feed your family. Great job my sweet friend. I hope everyone has a very blessed week!
Hi Jessica- I know it’s a lot of work to do this every day, but I am so thankful that you do! I love living vicariously thru you and your garden!!! No garden for me this year but learning from you for next year! Thx!
I do a recipe with celeriac that you slice like matches and you do the same with green apple it makes a wonderful salade that keeps its shape for a long time. If you want the recipe, i could scan it for you.
Subscribed......✔️👍❤️ Your day looks so bright and cheerful. Good harvest weather. Haven't had kohlrabi in years....will look for it locally and add to shopping list. As kids we ate it raw and if memory serves me well, it had a peppery taste...so good. Back in the day when we gardened and canned, I froze or pickled our cauliflower. One thing I did do when freezing, I'd put up a few bags of cheesy cauliflower. Used a 2# block of sharp cheddar, diced into about 1/2" cubes. Rolled them in powdered milk and 1/4 cup of AP flour. Then add about 1/2 to a cup of cheese into quart bag of cauliflower, sealed and freeze. When preparing, add the cauliflower and cheese to large sauce pan and about 1/4 cup of milk. Heat on medium. It will be loose/watery so add flour slurry until thick as you want it. Cook it for a few minutes to tame the flour taste. S&P, a dash of nutmeg and serve! Until our next visit, treat me with a few clips of Ms. Peaches as you harvest!! ❤Momma G.
