I made my cousin a bunch of freeze dried fruit and veggie powders for baby food for her baby shower. I packed them in tiny mylar bags with little custom labels. :) I didn't care for the freeze dried crinkle carrots, but the dogs loved them as treats.
@@modernhomesteadalaska I'm not sure yet. I don't love frozen carrots which is why those ended up in the freeze dryer, but maybe fresh into the freeze dryer would be better. I freeze dried a soup starter with celery, onions and carrots all fresh but I haven't used it yet.
If you have veggies you don’t particularly enjoy dehydrate and make into powder to add to recipes. My husband will not eat squashes or avocados but dehydrated he never knows he is eating them. What happens in the kitchen stays in the kitchen…😂 Take cherries and chop them in a food processor, dehydrate or freeze dry and break into pieces…fast, easy and still is portable rather then slicing each one. Powdered fruit makes good sauces and toppings, also good for smoothies.
That is very frugal and cool to clean out the freezers and preserve everything more long term. I love watching your videos and living vicariously through you. I love the pie ideas as well. Thank you so much Jessica and blessings on you and the family!!

What a great pie hack! We live strawberry/rhubarb anything! Sadly I can no longer even touch rhubarb even with gloved hands! I have gout in most of my joints and rhubarb is a trigger for me and all other gout sufferers. I remember you saying Aaron has gout and how does he do with eating rhubarb? Awesome preservations ideas! You are an excellent teacher. Love watching, and thanks for sharing. Love your channel! Love Flat Tire Farm and how you mention each other! Great community you all share together!❤❤❤❤
Good evening, what a productive day! I remember when canning involved hot wax and glass lids and rubber rings. Things have sure changed. I love how you take one thing from one area and recreate it and put it into another area. Very smart. You have endless energy i will say. Have a lovely day tomorrow.
Hi Jessica and sweet family! Awesome job cleaning out your freezers. It will be so helpful having the pies ready when you are and you have thought about your whole family in this challenge. I think of all the years my great grandparents and grandparents grew gardens for the whole family to enjoy the harvest. It makes me feel so very blessed to have those memories and teachings from my elders. My poor sister never cared about gardening, canning or preserving anything and now she wished she had. She tells people she burns water, lol. I will feed and take care of whoever needs help or food if I have it. I use to have an acre garden I tended and harvested for preserving for the winter. I planted an orchard of fruit trees and grapes. Muscadines I picked from an island at a nearby lake. One day your kids will think back on the way you showed them love. Have a very blessed evening ❤️🙏
That’s such a beautiful perspective. They truly love the food, they love family dinners, love to cook and make food, so it’s so nice to see my children loving forgotten ways!
You're such an inspiration! Always making me think of other things I should be freeze drying or using. My freeze dryer is currently running with Stuffed Pepper Soup made from tomatoes, peppers, onions, and corn from our garden and our own beef. Freeze-dried soups are some of our favorites. Thank you for all you share, amazing lady! 💛
@modernhomesteadalaska instead of canning all of our "garden vegetable soup" I put it in the freeze dryer. It's AMAZING and oh so handy. It tastes so much more fresh than canned. We've also done tomato basil and chicken noodle soup. The mre size bags are great for individual servings and easy to eat right out of. Just add boiling water.
I am so jealous of your headband...it was sold out when I got there!! Awesome video as always!! I know you do Christmas blog as ( that is how I found you years ago) suggestion having the family together for a live q n a?
Love the berry pie idea. The mixed veg will be for when you and the family are out on the trails. But i am with you on mixed veg, i want to mix my own too. They taste different
I love the freeze drying ideas! However, repackaging the frozen veggies into food saver bags to avoid frost bite is great! Why didn't I think of that? I am pulling out the food saver this weekend!! God bless you all!

Or did you cut the sugar on purpose? Just curious because every other ingredient you multiplied by 3. Gosh I sure would love to have a freeze dryer! Super jealous of all your wonderful ideas!!!!! If you freeze dried lemon juice, would that give you something like the true lemon zest packets? Also, do you know of that would have the same acidic properties? Would be cool if it did!
