I discovered your channel recently. I watched several videos, including the one where you explain how your grocery stash helped when your husband became unemployed. I admit that I had seen videos from other channels talking about "preparedness" and it was always a weird concept to me. It's not something we do here in Brazil. I always thought it was some kind of paranoia. But after watching your video I understood that it's an interesting and responsible measure. At least the way you do it. I still think some people exaggerate, but you just seem cautious to me. I'm fascinated by Alaska. Unfortunately I'll never get to see it, because I have health problems that prevent me from doing so, but I love watching videos about life in this incredible place on the planet.
Wow! The fact you got that it amazes me! I truly don’t think like the paranoid folks, like if the world ends do I honestly think I can pack out this food? Or a flood or natural end type idea. But we have worked through our freezers several times, and the shelf’s and totes. And it truly saves me time and $ abs carried us through without ever needing to go to the store for months! And the fact our son got laid off at the same time and could live off it too. And we had a son in school still that was not working he was in his senior year right after a broken back, it was quite the season and we never felt the stress of what will we eat. It’s not even the first time our family has been through something like this. First time layed off but not the first time we ate our pantry because we didn’t have an extra penny for food
I have been doing an after harvest type inventory to fill in gaps where needed. I have kept a well stocked pantry for about 15 years now. It has helped so many times but I’ve never been as thankful for this mindset as I am now. Things continue to grow tighter and tighter but having a good pantry has helped me stretch my dollars so much.
I love how organized and prepared you always are! It is evident how much you love your family. You are an inspiration to me. Blessings from Mississippi! ❤
I love your pantry videos so that I can live vicariously through you. Thank you for another awesome video. Thank you for letting us have a glimpse of your life again. Blessings to you and your family and stay safe!!!
Those of us with small gardens or in not so great growing zone, grow what we can and preserve them. In my brain i know i cant grow everything in the space i have so i grow the things that either i have a hard time buying (here in the uk) or things i like to grow or grow the things to reduce my shopping bill even if its only going to reduce it for a few months. My patio garden is only 12ft by 7ft it is south facing and a sun trap. So i grow great tomatoes and peppers. I make nearly enough pasta sauce for the year, and my sweet pickle relish, and pickled peppers and some of my hot sauce. I grow french beans because they dont take to much room and some of my herbs. I do it all on my own including lugging all the new compost every year. Im not sure how i would manage more space on my own. We all do what we can wirh space and body limitations. To me its about growing better food even if its only part of what i use. It reduces my food bill so i can use that money on other things. Unless you live in the lower middle of America, have a bunch of farming equipment and lots of land, you cant grow everything that includes grow your own meat. I know people have grand ideas of what they want to do, but the reality check comes in fast for them and sometimes they then lose their desire to do any of it because its not how they picture it. I think you had a great garden this year even if you didn't get all the tomatoes and peppers you wanted.
@modernhomesteadalaska I'm lucky I grew up in the UK with a family that loved gardening. Nan and pap grew all sorts of vegetables. Grandma and grandad had a bunch of fruit trees and bushes, and my mum loved landscaping and flowers. Mum and nan started me cooking all of it really young too. They are all gone now but I carried on learning more and taught myself to preserve it. I love watching others learning and growing their own food. Finding ways that work for them. And all of us sharing the knowledge because that is what it's all about.
Pantry shelves full of jars look so beautiful to me. You are so well organized and I love that you show us HOW it happens instead of just showing it when it is perfect. You always keep it real and I love that about you!
We have a back-up stock, due to our medical conditions if we cannot leave the house for any reason we can eat for several weeks. We home-make chutney in a small way, also usually during October we make our own mincemeat mixture ready for mince-pies for Christmas;a mixture of dried fruits/nuts/cooking apples/soaked in brandy/port/whiskey whatever we have in stock mixed with suet, soaked for several days and bottled. It's a British thing, love your channel.
I love your pantry . I keep my spices the same way. I also put my pasta in canning jars so I can see what I have and I don’t have open boxes . Thank you for inspiring all of us
I bought the 1lb bag of oregano from Azure too! I will have oregano for a very long time! Lol! I need to vacuum seal it. Great idea! I always enjoy going through your pantry with you. It never fails that I get some good ideas from you. I do pray that your Gmom is doing better. God bless you all!
I think you mean a sifter to loosen the spices. Good restock video, Jessica! Always so informative with useful tips! Hoping your grandma is better and can come home soon.
I love spending time in your pantry. I've learned so much from your planning, stocking, and pantry building. Thank you for always inspiring and sharing. We are praying Gmom is doing well. 💛
Thank you for this video! I struggle to be organized and I love to watch how others accomplish this. You are super organized and it does inspire me to work toward being better at it myself.
Amen. Thank you for sharing when you keep things in order. Everything runs smoothly, really like what you have done many blessings to you and your family ❤
Fantastic restock! Love how organized you are. 😊 Aaron and my George have a lot in common pantry wise. I gave George his own shelf for his meat church and special seasonings, too, lol. Jess, the way you explain the restock is very helpful. Take good care.😊
Hi Jessica and sweet family! I hope your grandmother is doing better. My brother passed away and it’s been hard. You definitely have a dream pantry. I hope you all have a very blessed night!
When I restock glass jars I use a temporary holding jar or bag or bowl. I empty the older, fill to about right spot with new. Put older on the top. If I estimated wrong I can add a bit fresh on top.
There’s something therapeutic about watching someone fill their pantry. Don’t use nail polish remover on plastic it takes the coating off the plastic and leaves a cloudy spot. Use alcohol instead. I think the word you were looking for is a sifter.
Even back in the day they traded because no one can produce all the things that grow in all the climates😎 Dialing your systems down, you’re doing great!🤩 Praying for GMA💕
What I do with my clumpy spices is leave them in the bag, and add that bag to a zip bag, then take a wooden mallet and smash the clumps to bits. Works great!!!!
I am starting my winter stock up wed. We only go to town once every two months during the winter so I need to make sure I have everything,. I added a few items to my list after watching you today, thanks Jessica. 🌷🇨🇦
I do both my son helped me build a tiling spice shelf for my kitchen and one shelf is two deep of the slim plastic containers like your garlic salt is in. The bottom shelf is one gallon Then Half gallons then pints and such I love it I do need a serious re organization but summer kept me so full of life inside was put on hold lol
Hi sweet one! I love the great organization of your pantry! You can tell you put a lot of thought into what you wanted in there. I like your thought patterns for placement too! You always amaze me with your knowledge and know-how!!! Keep up the good work, my friend!! Big hugs and many blessings!
Good video, Jessica. I just came back from shopping. Your pantry is wonderful. Mine is a hot mess, lol, but i know where everything is. The important thing you said was "if you're doing this just for looks..." it's spot on! I don't feel "pantry shamed", its a working pantry. Means I use it! Not that you don't, but some get intimidated theirs is not, LOL No one can grow or make 100% of what you consume. That's reality. You either purchase items or you trade. I see people who bite off more than they can chew. If they just take it a little at a time.😊
Good housekeeping info for all. I am in fall nesting mode too, albeit not as detailed as you! Hope your grandma is doing better. Until our next visit.... let's both put on a pot of soup! ❤ Momma G
I am very impressed with your wonderful pantry. I do buy cans of tomatoes and beans. I used to work full time and will be again but we live out of town so we like to have stock in the house. I’m very new to your channel and I’m already hooked.
The issue I'm seeing at least for me would be that i would be placing fresh or newest on top of older. If you are always doing it in that manner the spice on the bottom potentially wouldn't be used. I would be tempted to put the new in a clean jar and put the older stuff on top of that.... I would be making a lot more work for myself! Washing all the jars and replacing all the labels😂

If you want to restock then such as for your garlic powder you put the newest on the bottom of the jar not on top of what is already in the jar. By doing it your current way you would never get down to the older spice at the bottom of the jar.
Yes I understand I like to actually after about a year wait for the jar to get completely empty and wash it new lid all that, and sometimes I just add on top. I have shown both on the channel. But you are right it’s best practice for new in the bottom and old on top
The prices can be worth it to buy bigger bags of herbs, but I find that if I can find people to split it with, it just helps all of us. I ordered 1 pound of bay leaves, holy cow beans, it is a full, packed full gallon jar!! I would probably never in my life make that many pickles or soups, etc to use up all of those in my life time. So, by sharing, someone else gets to enjoy them too, and they didn't buy a jar of 8 leaves from the store for $4-5. Always love walking through your panty, Jessica :) Great video!
Hi Jess. I liked your pantry organization today. It takes so much time and effort but worth it until it all those little hands get in there messing it up and back you go again. Right? Hope Gmom is doing well. I could see a little stress in you today but beautiful as always, Take care.
Jessica I love your pantry. You are so organized I love it. I have OCD so I have lists on top of lists but it works for me. We are doing our big grocery hall next week so I’m going through everything just as you are. It is such a great feeling to be prepared. Thank you for sharing and letting me ramble. Take care from Cape Cod✌️🇺🇸🌸
Love your pantry ! Good idea about storing spices in a tub I’ve got my spices stored all over the place And of course I buy a spice and sure enough I’ve already got it Also I grow and dehydrate spices and try and use them fresh before winter and dry in the winter. My daughters think I have a spice addiction 😳
Sifter. Not a lady but I know what it’s called. Now I understand why people buy plastic utensils. I couldn’t see the point. In case of no water to wash dishes. Got it. Going on my list. I’m a single dad and I guess I don’t think about things I should. Thanks for explaining stuff. 😊
New to your channel, love your pantry. One thing I might won't to do living in a earthquake area is to make sure I get bars across on other shelves like the ones you have on spice side. Thanks for sharing
Great Video. I see all your herbs that you buy and the jalapeno's I just wonder why you don't freeze dry them from your garden? I see your garden videos all the time and the things you grow. Love your channel and I thoroughly enjoy watching.
Yes I do dry done myself too it does take so much so long and we use more then we can grow currently! The goal for sure is to grow enough of most things to preserve it outset
Jessica I just loved this video. Question about refilling your spice jars. For example the garlic powder. Do you ever have issues with freshness when you don’t empty the jar and put the new bag in first and top the jar off with the garlic powder that was in the bottom of the jar so it’s used first?
Your pantry is lovely! Are you thinking of a mortar and pestle? Food processor? Food mill? Blender? Sifter? Mixer? Any of those would work to break up the chunks.
Last year a took couple handfuls of peppermint candies n ran through blender n mixed with hot cocoa so kids n grands could have hot cocoa with peppermint
Omg I think your thinking of a flour shifter? Is that even close lol. I can smell each of your seasonings. I love it. Making me want to start cooking warm comfy food. But its still 87 degrees here. Had to turn the AC on 😂
I love almond bark! Chocolate and white chocolate. I make peanut clusters, stick pretzels ( my youngest grandson calls them nests lol ) I even dip Ruffle potato chips lol. I got an order already from my daughter's employees for Thanksgiving and Christmas yummies lol
Do you guys throw nuts and dried fruit together for on the go snacks to take with you hunting and fishing? Those mixtures are my favorite things to snack on. Your pantry is beautiful!!

When I restock glass jars I use a temporary holding jar or bag or bowl. I empty the older, fill to about right spot with new. Put older on the top. If I estimated wrong I can add a bit fresh on top.
I’ve never thought of that, I’m going to try it!
You are on it girl. Thank you for sharing.

Yes I understand I like to actually after about a year wait for the jar to get completely empty and wash it new lid all that, and sometimes I just add on top. I have shown both on the channel. But you are right it’s best practice for new in the bottom and old on top
Love how you roll!!
Thank you
❤❤❤❤❤
Fall and spring pantry checks, doing mine later this week.
I love it!!! Holidays are upon us!
Love your pantry. God bless
Thanks! I appreciate it.
A sifter!
Flour sifter! I just got one 😊
Jessica, I absolutely love your pantry videos. Goals ❤❤❤
Thanks, it's always good to have a well-stocked pantry.
It is a great idea to split the larger bags with people to share the costs.
Hello friend! Great video as always!! Thank u for sharing ur life with us!! 💜🕯
Thanks, it's a pleasure to share!
Hi Jess. I liked your pantry organization today. It takes so much time and effort but worth it until it all those little hands get in there messing it up and back you go again. Right? Hope Gmom is doing well. I could see a little stress in you today but beautiful as always, Take care.
You’re so right - it’s a constant dance, but so worth it
Jessica I love your pantry.
Thanks! I feel you on the lists. You’re doing great!
Love your pantry !
Good idea about storing spices in a tub
I’ve got my spices stored all over the place And of course I buy a spice and sure enough I’ve already got it Also I grow and dehydrate spices and try and use them fresh before winter and dry in the winter. My daughters think I have a spice addiction
😳
It can get out of hand so easily! You’re smart to use what you grow and store fresh.
Another great video. Love Love Love. Thank you.......
Thanks! We love making them.
Good Afternoon my AWESOME friend..!!
Hello there!
Your so organized 😊 wish I was. Maybe one day.
I'm not always so organized, I promise!
Your so sweet love your channel.
Sifter!!
Great pantry
Thank you
Very helpful video ❤
Thank you so much!
I want to come for Christmas!!!
Come on up
Love watching your videos hope you have a great day from Crawfordsville Arkansas
Thank you! You too!
Sifter. Not a lady but I know what it’s called.
Now I understand why people buy plastic utensils. I couldn’t see the point. In case of no water to wash dishes. Got it. Going on my list. I’m a single dad and I guess I don’t think about things I should. Thanks for explaining stuff. 😊
That’s right!
Interesting video. Aren't you worried about putting the new spice on top of the old?
I wondered the same. Maybe she's not because she said they use so much.
Nope I go through them fast enough. But depending on the spice I’ll wash the jar when it’s finished
Exactly! If it’s something I don’t use quickly I’ll wash the container
New to your channel, love your pantry. One thing I might won't to do living in a earthquake area is to make sure I get bars across on other shelves like the ones you have on spice side. Thanks for sharing
Thank you
Your pantry is amazing. Have you considered shelf guards in case of earth quaker? Would be a shame and expensive to resupply all.
Yes need to get to it
Great Video.
You would if you don’t go through them fast enough
Sifter!
Your pantry is lovely!
Are you thinking of a mortar and pestle? Food processor? Food mill? Blender? Sifter? Mixer? Any of those would work to break up the chunks.
Sitter! That’s the word
Last year a took couple handfuls of peppermint candies n ran through blender n mixed with hot cocoa so kids n grands could have hot cocoa with peppermint
So yummy
As always, it looks great, Jessica
Must know where your bibs are bought from?😊 oh they are Duluth.
Duluth makes the best bibs! I have some new ones for winter but they are the new stretch carhartt ones
Omg I think your thinking of a flour shifter? Is that even close lol. I can smell each of your seasonings. I love it. Making me want to start cooking warm comfy food. But its still 87 degrees here. Had to turn the AC on 😂
Yes that’s exactly the word I couldn’t find!
The pasta drives me nuts too 🤣
Seriously! I think I’ll add the 1/2 empty boxes to random soups this next month
👍
I love your organization and the way you explain things! May I know where you get your labels?
The you! My neighbor made them for me
@modernhomesteadalaska awesome! Does she have an Etsy account, or would she sell them
a sifter!!
I love almond bark! Chocolate and white chocolate. I make peanut clusters, stick pretzels ( my youngest grandson calls them nests lol ) I even dip Ruffle potato chips lol. I got an order already from my daughter's employees for Thanksgiving and Christmas yummies lol
I’m so glad you brought up the almond bark - we LOVE it!
Do you guys throw nuts and dried fruit together for on the go snacks to take with you hunting and fishing? Those mixtures are my favorite things to snack on. Your pantry is beautiful!!
Oh yes it makes a wonderful snack
