  • In this video, I set back and rechamber the factory sporter-weight barrel with a tighter Bentz chamber reamer. I wanted to see how much more accuracy could be coaxed from the factory barrel.
To see why a tighter chamber matters, check out this video.

Thank you for a very informative follow up video. I appreciate the finer points of accuracy that you make. I shoot in NC and I have seen the temperature have an effect on 22 lr ammunition. Can't wait to see your experiment on temperature. Thanks again and keep them coming!!

Another good video John and I respect your expertise and knowledge.
Like I commented in the part one, it is very disappointing that Springfield couldn't come up with a better product for the price. I have fondled them may times at my local gun shops and they look and feel great. But at that price, the thing should not only look good but should shoot better right out of the box. There are other brands that are more accurate and a better value.
I appreciate your honesty and when I hear words like "good enough" and "acceptable" I think it fits the 2020 Rimfire model.
Always enjoy your content and knowledge. Keep 'um comin'. JimE

Hi Jim, Thanks a lot for watching and for the nice compliment. I do hope that SA steps up their game because I think a lot of potential customers are counting on it and want them to succeed.

Ever think it just finally got broken in and all that machineing did nothing one we shot loves 22 rem bulk box nothing but shooting it impoves accuracy in the one we been shooting

Thank you for watching. No, I never thought that "it just finally got broken in"; not even for a second. I'm not a huge subscriber to the "breaking in" theory of accuracy improvement. In fact, I carefully documented the accuracy of a Ruger American Rimfire 22LR for over 1000 rounds and saw a net improvement in accuracy of approximately .05" for 5 round groups at 50 yards. I do believe that a bore will tend to get smoother over the course of thousands of rounds but I'm less inclined to believe that accuracy improves very much. A 1.5" group shooting rifle will not become a 1" or a 1/2" group shooting gun just from shooting the daylights out of it. Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind, should I ever see the documentation to prove otherwise. Have a great day.

These rifles don't shoot well as they come from the factory. I've seen that in person. It's a shame too, because they are such a nice looking rifle. I was at the LGS a few weeks ago, and saw one of these rifles. I was there to pick up a new CZ 457 American, and compared the 2 rifles side by side. I may have even liked the looks of the Springfield 20/20 even better than the CZ. I wished Springfield would re-think the manufacturing processes of this rifle, and focus more on accuracy. This would be a damn beautiful rifle if it shot well. I don't keep rifles that don't shoot well.
Also, you should shoot some 10 shot groups. That shows much more about the rifles potential than 5 shots do. All of my 22lr's will shoot 1/2" 5 shots on command, with just about any ammo. Even with cheap Federal Automatch, American Eagle, and Auguila, to name a few.
As an example: My CZ American wasn't shooting extremely well when I first got it, but a tiny bit of bedding work, and removing a little wood, where the barrel was riding on the stock, brought the groups down substantially. No messing with action screw torque bs, just simple mechanics and proper foundation.
But, if a guy has to remove a barrel, set the chamber back, and then rechamber to tighter specs, that is far outside the capabilities of most guys here. It should also not have to be done to a new rifle off the shelf. Springfield needs to get their act together.

Hi, are any barrel brands yet that makes a match one?? How hard to replace?

@@NunezPhotography Not that I’m aware of. Swapping barrels certainly isn’t as easy as on a Ruger 10/22 or CZ 457. However, compared to other threaded barrels, the machining is easier because you don’t have to set up and cut extractor slots. It’s all lathe work. Thanks for watching.
