Joe, you posted this 5 years ago and it's still helping folks...like me. I would have never attempted the job without your video and it turned out to be quite straightforward aven taking my time only took about an hour. As one of your other viewers said, I also didn't have to totally disconnect the door panel. Thank you.
Just want to say thank you for making a short, but concise video. I consider myself handy but have never done much work on cars. I used your video too replace my daughter's mirror after a run in with a parking garage pillar. Your video showed every single step with exactly the right amount of detail. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Using your video was just like having you there as I worked. I’d have been very intimidated without your step by step instructions. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and allowing others the satisfaction of doing a job right without destroying anything in the process.
Absolutely perfect “how to” video! If you are careful when removing the door panel (go slow) you can access the wiring for the mirror by lowering the panel slightly once it’s loose without disconnecting any of the cables. Thanks for putting this out.
Thank You for posting this DYI video. I had gone to Honda dealership in McKinney, TX, where I purchased 2 CRV’s (and in the process of purchasing a 3rd one, though I am starting to think otherwise) to get this mirror fixed. They wanted to charge me ...... drum roll please, $795. After I stopped laughing, I went to Autozone, got the whole unit for $88 and installed it myself with your video ..... incredible .... even after I told Honda of McKinney I could get the part cheaper, they were unwilling to bend ...... anyways, thanks for posting this detailed DYI Joe !!!!
This video was very helpful. Being lazy, i skipped the step of detaching the panel from the door and just held in position while I replaced the mirror. Thanks a lot for the video. Couldn't have done it without this. Thanks
Dude you saved me a ton of money and time. Honda wanted 6 bills just for the mirror. I got a new one for a minute fraction of that cost. And the best part is learning I don't have to get the new mirror painted. Very good tutorial man very good.
Thank you for the video! I recently had to do this for my grandma on her 2013 CRV. One side note: It is not necessary to completely remove the door panel to replace the side mirror. This was a lot easier than replacing one on my wife's Nissan Xterra. Its a similar process but the mirrors electrical connection on the Xterra is halfway in the middle of door which requires you to take off the entire door panel and remove the vapor barrier. This repair only cost around $50 which was a god send for my Grandma on SSI. Thanks again!
Thanks, Joe! I was a little worried about putting it all back together but it was as easy as you demoed! I didn't disconnect the inside cables, and left the door panel hanging. There was plenty of room to work. Probably took me 30 minutes going very slowly and referring back to your video step by step. Great job!
Great video, very helpful! The only thing I could think of that was missing was the socket/wrench size you used on the mirror mounting bolts. Easy enough to figure out though! Good work!
Joe I can't thank you enough, you saved us so much 💰and God bless my neighbor, he came over and installed the mirror for us. I will pay it forward. 😎🤝🤝🤝🚘
Thanks for posting this advice. I found it indispensable for replacing my CRV mirror. I wouldn’t have had the confidence to start pulling off door covers!
best video out there on this. so calm and zen like. you also have an amazing voice for this stuff! keep at it man im sure ill break other stuff on my crv down the line...
Thanks... Exactly as shown... The only thing different for me was that I did not have to disconnect the other cables... When the cover was off i had enough space to do the job....
Thank you, this was great. One change I did was use jack stands to prop the door panel up so you didn't have to undo door handle and window wire harness. But that's probably me just being a little lazy.
@@JoesCarSmartsNYWanted to thank you again for the diy. Mine is with camera, which is fully functional, so I ended up buying a basic replacement one from partsngo ebay for 50 bucks. I used the mount but it wasnt exact fit to original assembly. Its stable with one screw though. So for now I am good. Will keep looking around for any exact original from any junkyard and such.
Very helpful, could not thank you enough! Can I install 2015 or 2016 crv side mirror with housed turn signal indicator (thin strip that you find on the housing) to a 2012 crv model?
Joe, thanks for step by step video. I need to repalce passenger side mirror for 2014 Honda CRV EX-L model. Which is power and heated but no camera. Question. Your car is 2013 EX-L? Wiring harness is 5 pins or 7? I need this info before buying a used OEM mirror from ebay. Thanks
Mine is 2013 EX-L no cameras in the mirror. I’m sorry I don’t remember how many pins in the plug. But you can use this video to check your plug if you need to.
Great video. Really saved me some cash so thank you! I have a question (alittle issue I ran into) after I disconnected the 2 cables for the door lock and handle, when I went to put it back to its original position, it stays in the locked position and I can’t open the door from the inside or outside. I have to pull the door handle first, then move the lock to the “unlock” position, then the door opens. When I go to unlock the car via the remote, the actuator makes the door handle and lock move really fast to unlock/lock position. Kind of sounds like a sub machine gun going off lol. Sorry for the long explanation, any help you could provide would be awesome!
My guess is that the lock cable is twisted or maybe not installed quite correctly. I think I dealt with something like this on another car and it had to do with the cable being routed incorrectly or twisted. Good luck!
Joe S. Yeah I have a feeling I didn’t put it back correctly, even though I put it back how it was (at least I feel like I did) never had any issues with it. What do you mean by twisted? Thanks for responding. If I can’t fix it by the morning then I’ll just take it to the shop. Hopefully it won’t cost much
Angel Montalvo “Twisted” in this case would mean that it got wrapped around the other cable (or some other obstruction) before being reattached. That little bit of tension can wreak havoc. And it also makes the cable ever so slightly shorter.
Joe S. So I was able to reattach the cables back to there original positions (latched in and secured) but the lock button stays stuck in the locked position and could only be moved to the unlocked position when the door handle is pulled. 🤦🏽♂️
Thanks for the video! Quick question...can you tell me the size socket you would need to remove the 3 bolts? I'm flying to Florida soon and plan to fix my aunts mirror but she has no tools except a few scewdrivers.. if I know the size I can take exactly what I need. Thanks 🙂
Great video! Question tho: is it absolutely necessary to disconnect those inner door lock cables to disconnect/connect the electrical connectors for the mirror? It looks like you might be able to simply reach in there once you pop out the inner door trim?
JoeVivinetto If you can work around it then you shouldn’t need to remove those parts. I usually prefer to leave myself as much room as possible to works. Makes my life easier.
Cool video Do you know how many wires has bottom connector that connects to your mirror I have an ex and want to upgrade to heated mirrors, from the video yours is an exl correct?
Where you able to upgrade to a heater mirror? As he says the harness for a heater mirror has 5 wires and the no heater mirror has only 3 But not sure if the harness from the door has the extra wires to heat the mirror or just the wires to rotate the mirror.
I’m guessing the metal clip on the tweeter pod came off and is stuck in the metal door panel. At 1:55 in this video you can see the metal clip and the vertical rectangular hole it’s supposed to clip into in the metal door panel. That’s really the only thing that holds that panel on.
Yep! I basically had to redo everything, but sure enough there were two clips that had fallen between the new mirror assembly and the metal frame, on to a small sill. I never even noticed them on the first go around. Thank you so much for this video, and for taking the time to reply. It was a tremendous help!
You don't really need to release the big white connector inside the door panel. Once you've removed the ball pins for the lock and the door handle, you can just set the panel on a block and leave it in place. This video doesn't tell you how to release that big white connector and it's not worth the time to figure out how to do it. Just prop the panel up and leave the connector in place, that gives enough access to the mirror assembly to get the job done.

Awesome. I did this project because we came out to our car in a parking lot and someone had smashed the mirror somehow.
On no way the exact thing happened to my wife at a grocery parking lot

So can I cut the wire holding the mirror on because it will come with the new one I purchase?
That should be okay. Be careful to leave enough wire on the plug in case you need to splice it back together.
