Assassin's Creed Nebula is a lesser-known assassin's creed game that is being developed by Ubisoft Sofia. it is supposedly taking place across three different settings, and I wanted to explore this idea to see if i think it could work, or if a project like this is doomed to fail.

First, loved the reference to how many games are in production! It is a little ridiculous at this point!
Now, let’s theorize as to who the protagonist could be in a three time period game. Yes, I said one, not multiple protagonists. Ubisoft already has the protagonist lined up. Kassandra from AC Odyssey would be perfect to create a single game and/or multi game franchise that spans millennia. Just a thought.

to me aztec empire ac game would be an absolute dream come true, there is something special about the diversity of that region and country, everything from the tropical rainforest to the pyramids, the amazing tulum and the wild west southwestern us/northern mexico red dead redemption type setting all in one with the different biomes unique animals etc, also the armors would be crazy imagine upgrading a aztec tribe armor with its tropical color inspiration designs so awesome. if they do in europe they must do it in spain next, since they already did in greece, italy, england, france etc, so it´s only spain left i know the movie was in spain but it´s not the same thing. and in asia alongside japan i would also love to see a true ac game in china. another cool idea and setting would be around spartacus time during the slave rebellion wars against roman empire where he escapes from gladiator school and takes up arms against the mighty empire with a slave army

Like Cortez... They literally portray that the spanish arrived with guns blazing and murdering every one they come across with only 600... people... and it's literally the near opposite. Cortez with 600 conquistadors and thousands of natives going to tenochtitlan with only few battles fought.

I am an explorer-type gamer, and I do agree with that when you mention Valhalla. They put the idea that they could add the entire country but forgot how lively they should make the map. I completed the entire game and DLC with 100%. I saw every corner of the map. Some places are dense with forests that not a single soul to find. And some places are so abandoned that, it makes me think about what I miss there to collect(like the north zone of the map... why there is a great wall built in the first place). And coming to Origins, Odyssey and Mirage pretty satisfying...

You mention a forest but in reality when I'm in a forest I am almost always the only one in there as far as I can see or hear. I don't know, as someone living on the countryside I'm used to low population density and big areas without any people, maybe that's why Valhalla feels rather familiar to me in that regard.

A multiple character ac game would definitely work, and we've seen glimpses of it. But they NEED to master the set pieces. 3 cities, all unique, all lively, all developed. Same with the characters, they need to be inherently different from each other while not creating a character we might hate more than the others (think Altair/ezio/Connor, Connor is just the more hated, and for a good reason tbh). They need to settle for a smaller game for nebula, go back to the roots. Ac2 was brilliant when it came to having the different cities around Italy, and it didn't feel like a massive game, because it wasn't. They need to mimic that structure again

Well, an Assassin Creed game in Mesoamerica is NEEDED.
An Assassin Creed game in the Roman Empire is NEEDED.
If I ever had an what if scenario, imagine if the Roman Empire had surivied to 1452 at the time of the discovery of the New World, and never converted to Christanity. Now imagine the same for the Aztecs. This would be a wild what if scenario in an Assassin Creed game.

  • @AndresDominguez324

    Just imagine this:
A young Spanish soldier fighting in the Italian War of 1502-1504 under the leadership of Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba El Gran Capitán in southern Italy and Sicily, in one dangerous mission he meets Ezio Auditore, who was chasing Cesare Borgia by then, Ezio recruits him to the Assassin's brotherhood and teaches him about the power of the Apple of Eden.
The war ends and our protagonist is chosen by Ezio to join the new portuguese fleet commanded by Francisco de Almeida and go to India in 1505 looking for another Isu artifact, that's where most of the game would be set
He accomplishes the task and returns to Spain where he knows about new artifacts discovered in the recently created Viceroyalty of The Indies, so he sails again, this time to America and he joins the expedition of Hernán Cortés to Mexico in 1519, but I think that's too much for a single game, so I would like the Aztec Empire setting to be a direct sequel with lots of opportunities for DLC's, in other prehispanic cultures of Mexico

I share the opinion about that Sofia could absolutely deliver and make a great game if they are given the opportunity and resources. I don't think Rogue's narrative has been done in the way it is, because the narrative director, well, written this. It was like that because of the lack of time, they only managed to collect materials, record everything and such. I doubt they worked on it more than a year, I could also imagine it was like 9-10 months. Maybe I even said too much.

Three different periods could be really good, but what I think could also make a lot of sense, in context of these 3 locations, is showing the world at the edge of the XV century from 3 very important perspectives at that time. That is European discoveries of the Americas and collision with Aztecs, creating new marine trade routes to India and beyond, and being in the center at that time - European aspect in the Mediterranean. Big stuff going on back then and big money and power involved so I guess it could have great potential to settle an interensting story involving much more about the world and various folk living in it then just assassin/hidden one - good (kills bad), templar/ancient - bad (collect taxes)

I've always wanted a couple of games that take place in spain and mexico.
We play as an assassin, who isn't some really important guy like ezio or connor, but more of an agent of the brotherhood like arno or basim, basically playing as a low level assassin recruit until we become a master. The game would take place early in the spanish inquisition and it would feature lisbon, madrid, barcelona, and some rural areas.
In the second game, our protagonist, now a master assassin, would be given an assignment to kill a templar officer in the new world. He would sneak onto one of the ships in hernán cortés's expedition to mexico, disguised as a soldier.
In real life, when cortés got to mexico, he destroyed all of his ships to stop his soldiers from mutining against him.
In the game our assassin protagonist will sneak on one of the ships, during the passage from cuba to mexico he will kill the templar officer, when they land cortés will sink his ships which will strand our protag in mexico forcing him to stay with cortés and his force of 600 soldiers.
For a sequence of two he will need to pretend to be a soldier, until we arrive at tenochtitlan, the aztec capitol, and one of the biggest cities by population on earth, it's often called the venice of the new world due to it being built on an island on a massive lake.
Over the course of the game we will witness the fall of the aztec empire, our protag will help cause the uprising against hernán cortés, which happened after he imprisoned the aztec emporer, montezuma. Eventually our protagonist will get back to spain but tenochtitlan will be left in ruins, later being destroyed and rebuilt into mexico city.
The new world will become the site of templar expeditions for isu sites, and the assassin's will establish a brotherhood in tulum, integrating their philosophy with that of the natives. This is the same bureau that we see in assassin's creed black flag, im imagining this game as being the bridge between the ezio games and the kenway/ new world saga.
The locations will be madrid, cuba, tenochtitlan, aswell as rural areas and smaller mexica towns.
And btw the aztecs had an extremely well developed and complex society, they weren't "tribal" as you put it. They had the biggest marketplace in the history of the earth located in the northwest part of tenochtitlan. They were simply different and it would be extremely interesting to have them in an AC game, their human sacrifices and religion would be an extremely interesting philosophical point in a confession scene for a target who's an aztec priest, or one of the Spaniard's killing innocent aztec and using the human sacrifices they comit as moral justification.
Anyways, I've just realised how long I've been typing for, but this is the one ac game i would KILL to see get made, hopefully ubi doesn't fuck this up.

I don't think a mesoamerican assassins creed game would be possible. Considering for a second they actually lean into the history of things again, we don't know half those languages. Meaning we haven't really deciphered them, at least not well. We know the most about Mayan and some about the aztecs, but incas are almost completely foreign to us still besides the fact we know they had marvelous infrastructure. We lost most of that history when Cortez invaded. We haven't found the "Rosetta stone" for those languages yet. Everything in the game would be guesswork and if that game happens, it would only distance ubisoft from the fact it's based on actual historical events which is why ac3 is my favorite. Conner is pretty much the reason why the american revolution happened in that game

I had a vision that from some reason ubisoft in 30 years will create an avatar trainer to allow you to be able to play an immersive agi creed game. Meaning you cant to access a mission without been capable of induring physical parkour level assesment. You will be accomponied by every assassin avatar of your choice which will help you train in order to be ready to take a mission. It will understand your biological settings and even help you to create the most efficient training regime including food ingridients depending on the cultural influence of the avatar.

      @bbyboitommy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I don’t know. I think the issue is that when something is as long as this game sounds like it has to be, the details and focus of the game get spread thin. It also makes you very unlikely to revisit and get any new ideas or experiences from it because you’ve already sunk so much time in. I think tighter, more concentrated experiences tend to be more fun and memorable. But, if they’ve got story and gameplay ideas that they feel need a game of that size to support them, all power to them I guess. I just won’t get my hopes up for the long haul.

didnt know ac3 and rogue had the same studio behind them but now i that i know it yea, i see some common patterns. Coincidentally, i've been replaying both of them and this time i enjoyed them WAY more than before, even discovering things i had initially ignored (ex.naval missions in ac3, so fun).
I agree that ubi sofia has the saga at heart and especially that their potential is big. Their story concepts are great, but i think they have a lot of important ground to improve on.
I don't expect them honestly to have big troubles with the india and mediterranean sea settings, but for the aztec empire, if we're having an environment similar to connor's village, i truly hope they take that as a chance to make movement and parkour challenging, cool and effort requiring again, rather than compromise by just expanding the map to make it feel unique.
Also great job and thanks a lot for the videos, they're making me reflect more and bring attention to elements that were always in my subconscious but i never brought up and put into words, therefore never expanding on them.
    - - - comment finished, now a yapping for who cares with what i think are the main problems in Rogue and AC3 that to me are quality-determining points for the AC experience i want to have: - - -
    - Audio calibration (or how it's called) is unstable: u'll have Shay keep a calm, poised tone in cutscenes and then he suddenly raises his voice and hiphip hurries like a 16yo kid when he gets a templar sword or other collectibles, like what.
Or the tea Boston party in AC3. I always thought it should have been a crucial point since it symbolically started the revolution, yet the mission felt overall bland and 'fake': the people's cries of anger were lowered (i guess to maybe let us hear the music, but it reduced the immersive frenzy and adrenaline of the moment) and they just stayed there all in order watching the football match we were having + the cutscene pacing was too fast.
    The scene of Connor pouring the last tea box into the sea in front on Johnson could have been waaay more badass (badassness is an essential aspect of ac, not changing idea on this) had they taken a little more time with it and showed Connor's gaze better;
    - Cutscene and general story pacing: way too many scenes and frames cut way before due, they're too hasty with them and they don't connect harmoniously. Examples would be almost the whole thomas hickey arc, almost every end sequence cutscene, the conversations with the liberation members (there's like 2 seconds intervals before each side responds, which is crazy), Connor jumping off the warehouse with Haytham with the latter starting to scream - > loading screen -> finishing the scream (I think it was intentional to make it funny, but it's still a loading screen that interrupts the flow, it would have worked without it too), the part between Shay accusing Achilles for Lisbona and him getting up from the falo to go steal the apple (there could have been a more elaborate speech/reflection in between, showing more of him being uneasy and conflicted with his decision and what he believed up to then), him rapidly changing sides just because yes and because Monro was there without before seemingly informing himself concretely on the ideas supported by the Templars directly from them without the Assassins' filter.
They're things he probably did, but I think you simply have to show SOME of them more to the players, because they shape the character and allow the fans to relate, appreciate and know them.
AC2 took its sweet time with walking missions to show ezio's grief when he escaped florence or other events later on.
Same for the hurtful nostalgia missions in Brotherhood.
    Connor's introvertedness and batman-like tunneled focus on the job is somehow telling too of his childhood trauma. I'm not even spending too much on AC1: the bureau moments exist literally for that only;
    - Voice acting: this is almost exclusively for Rogue. This time it might be me being too demanding, but Shay's rage should have been way more strong than it has been shown, and the voice tone limited it (both english version and in my case the italian one). When he barges in to Achilles it feels like he just raises his voice while still controlling himself.
But for the experience he had, of causing a massacre and being so traumatized and terrorized to the point of being willing to betray his companions, it feels too unreal, even if a bit of time passed to get back to America where he could gather his thoughts. I personally would have expected his tone to be more dramatic and savage when saying all that, almost to the point of breaking, without the professional self restrain of the VA behind it.
The npcs talking in Rogue are straight up annoying, it makes them feel less like real people than they already are. Black flag had the same problem regarding this together with the ragdoll animations. Don't feel human at all.
    - Useless/badly designed elements: the underground galleries in ac3, the whole trading system in AC3 and the naval one in Rogue ( not intuitive, not inviting in design, boring), the notifications (too sterile and the same for every event, be it historical place, looting, unlocked stuff, rewards, etc. AC3 has been the first game where i realized i wasn't aware of system notifications popping up).
I believe Rogue has been the first AC game showing that an open world map isn't always a great, safe to go with idea. Imo it was a completely bad choice. There was no reason for Shay to be interested in visiting all those places to open treasure crates and get collectibles(except for the letters of assassins and templars).
The only reason he's doing it is because Edward did it (but he was a PIRATE) and they used AC4's assets and engine so there was the unconscious influence to go the similar way. Rogue feels more lonely and desolate in the bad sense because of that only, straight up.
I think it would have been better and added to the uniqueness of the title to make it a game with a smaller map & comprised more of missions in peculiar places, more or less distant between each other or in the main cities themselves, where you had to somehow sabotage Assassins in whatever way or contend them on obtaining something. Sorta like an Ezio game where these missions followed and replaced the da Vinci ones and were higher in number to the point of almost not feeling secondary, but integral to Shay's new character and purpose (of being a cog in a system that aligns with his principles; he doesn't think of himself as a main character), and way different in styles and design. It'd have worked to empower the already relevant impact that his betrayal had.
I'll never tire of saying it, but the saddest part about Rogue being so undervalued is that people will never know the amazing ost it has and the epic mission sequences that there are thanks to it. 'The Hunter' alone could easily be in a top 5 best AC tracks for how i see it

@@dainpiagne4636 I actually prefer Rogue to Blackflag but that is a hot take. I liked Shay and his accent but I am not Irish so I understand some Irish folks might be offended. I think the criticism that the assassins and templars just switched roles in the game is pretty lazy. A deep understanding of this game shows that Shay is manipulated by the templars. Also, I don't understand how the assassins act like templars in this game. They got hasty and wanted to keep the artefacts out of Templar control. So they did what they do best which is ally themselves with pirates, criminals and thugs except this time the criminals aren't some robin hood type characters, they are just criminals. I think Rogue has the best outfits in the whole of the games. It was both cool and fit in with the period instead of giving us Isu Iron Man armour like they do nowadays. The usual criticism is that people wanted to see Shay combat ideologies and whatnot but that just shows they didn't understand the game. Shay Cormac is like a blue collar worker. He is an everyday man who doesn't care to much about politics ( the templar or assassin ideologies) he's just joined because of his friend Liam. He is just happy to be in their group and they tell him he is doing good by killing evil men. But then he starts to kill people and they don't seem so evil to him. So he starts questioning why he is even in the group. The thing that broke the camels back was libson. So he leaves and joins another group that tells him he is doing good. But the templars and Haytham are far more skilled at manipulation than the assassins. When he finally stops the assassins, he goes back to being a blue collar worker for the Templars. Rogue isn't about which ideologies is better, it is about the effects of these groups on a person who doesn't really care. Shay never cared about order v freedom, he is an everyday man who doesn't really feel strongly towards any idea. Shay was used by both the assassins and the templars. Neither cared about him, just their political ambitions.

@@Rengokuo4o6 EXACTLYY THANK YOU!! That's what i was saying at the end with his purpose being to be a cog in a system that aligns with his principles ( = not killing innocents and killing 'bad' people) and the fact he doesnt see himself as a mc.
He wants to abide by a duty that he feels is correct and does good to the world.
I'm surprised from what u say that many didn't get that, but i guess it makes sense since the game tells it indirectly.
I see how this seems to contradict the part before where i wanted a bit more expansion on his ideas after Lisbon, but one thing is being simple (which he is) and one is being mentally challenged with no thoughts or deeper reflections even after a traumatic event. Thats why i think it wouldnt have hurt to add something there all the while being okay later on in the game with him not questioning anything anymore and just going along with the templars.
Now that you made me think about it , i see how even the Monro encounter doesnt really need Shay asking stuff about the order. That whole moment was a cathartic one (they actually executed majestically the whole sequence after he falls from the cliff, you truly get the feeling of starting anew and getting a fresh new breath) and that person there not being hostile to him was just the first friend in his new life. I changed my mind on that.
I prefer Rogue mission & story wise because i've always had a thing for being betrayed/turning against past allies, revenge (Shay doesn't want it, but technically gets it) and how the people involved react to it, which is precisely what the game delivered.
BF stays king only for the whole ship system and open world. I spent so much time on sea battles more than on ground because it was just so much fun. I keep my idea that it being re-proposed in Rogue with a big map right after the game which it recycled from was really bad. Again, not saying to play just in cities, because the lonely/melancholic atmosphere of the snowy and icy enviroments were fantastic, but limited maps and collectibles that at least pretend not to be there to make the play time longer.
I completely agree on the outfits being the best, just sad for the standard templar one having no hood, but its okay.
Simp moment, I love Shay's poise and walk, it's so elegant and calculated; my favorite one together with Altair's.
I think the criticism of the 2 orders just switching roles is lazy in the sense that it misses the exact problem, rather than not going deeper. Those who say it would be more correct if they said (and this i believe too) that it's just a bit forced to have the templars looking and acting completely good and the assassins bad in every way possible. BUT, that was present in AC2 too, yet because it's AC2 it got easily overlooked.
Another thing i really appreciated was the antithetic parallel between the irl dude we embody and Shay: both are being manipulated and gaslighted by the templars, but Shay, as u said, gets the nice sweet treatment and comes out of it as a better person, whereas we in the present get a harsher hand with Costa and Berg with the big revelation breaking all illusions at the end. They make it clear we're a tool, no human respect at all, the pink bob cut girl, melanie, is colder too after getting her promotion and doesn't need to lick asses to employees anymore.
Rogue brought me back to the menacing and hostile feeling that the present Abstergo in AC1 had.
Even if we slowly find documents of Abstergo's real identity and shady actions, we don't do anything because we realize they'll probably get us and also because that has nothing to do with us: it's the player that comprehends those info, the guy there likely catches up just to some bits and gets a vague impression (it's also because we have no identity and are mute, but still).
Shay instead has all that kept hidden away from him (the fact that templars are all good helps w that).
Abstergo spreads propaganda to slander Assassins and acclamate Templars, and the present guy probably believes some of that stuff, whereas Shay accepts the new gaslighting but has seen with his own eyes what the Assassins did, his is a more conscious choice.
Rogue as a whole is a game on gaslighting and the processes and effects of indoctrination.
Shay gets the good happy ending (going upwards towards the skies in the final scene), but we get a gun pointed at us to force us into joining the order.
The versailles scene is also cool as hell.
Again, these are all details and interesting things that'll get sadly ignored by most.
I just wish people who don't think much of it will slowly revisit Rogue and give it a serious chance

One issue I would have is if you have 3 characters in distinct time periods with their own play style, you will have a preferred portion of the game and you might dread others. If they also go with RPG elements where you upgrade your character, you will spend hours with one and then be reset to zero when you change characters. Last Of Us 2 had this issue (personally think it is one of the worst AAA games of recent history) as you get attached to a character, and finally get used to the characters style and upgrades, then all of a sudden the game switches and you go through the upgrade loop again from the start, then that is reverted, even with collectables available despite never a chance to upgrade past a point. If they make it so different characters have different kits but you don't need to grind to upgrade them that may work, like if you could use Shey, Adawalle or Edward whilst playing, very similar kits but each hero has their own gimmicks (4 pistols, 2 pistols and grenades, Blunderbuss and Firecrackers).
I can see it working but a lot of new features would need to go.
FYI I love rouge and prefer it over black flag due to the more open level design and better sandbox, just a shame it was so short

Given that there will be some missions albeit only intro as it seems, and its not known if you can even return, my guess is there will be 2 protags; a usual assassin native, and a combat oriented conquistador (although he might betray them as i’m pretty sure they were canonically templar pawns) kind of like naoe and yasuke. An Assassin's Creed game based in India would be culturally very limited because of the prevalence of cremation after death in traditional Indian cultures, which does not leave any genetic material four processing by The Animus. This might limit the setting and location to after the 10th Century among Muslim population ( which would make sense considering that the Assassin's guild developed in Islamic culture), or in the Indus valley civilization, which would not make any sense at all.

The makers of Rogue and Liberation are on this 3 in 1 scenario…it’s not looking good bruv. I’m gonna pray Red (now called Shadows) and Hexe live up to their setting potential

Ubisoft Sofia is stationed in Bulgaria. My country. So it's always amusing when someone brings it up in some ac convos. While I agree with what you said about the Ubisoft Sofia Ac games being kinda in the middle of the franchise quality wise I can't help it but feel like they can make something special. Being native in my country and having lived in it for all my life actually gives me even more reasons to believe they will flop in some sort of way compared to most people. Especially given the state of our gaming ''scene'' being sorry at best. I don't know why I feel like they will make something good. But I do. I wouldn't say I'm patriotic or anything so I don't think it's because of personal bias. But anyway. I just wanted to say that I'm actually somewhat hyped and hope our boys do something nice. Praying that the ubisoft curse is only present in the big studios. 🙏

I just think they should just focus on one setting, ideally either India or Aztec Empire, instead of trying to do all three

I don't know. It does seem like a project that's just way too big to be done well. But we'll see. Let's hope they don't bite more than they can chew.

I’m ngl the hype around red is worrying me, Quebec haven proven that they make good games, syndicate and odyssey are not highly rated games with ac fans, both games have similar problems as well, the main one being the characters, there so 2D. And for the people calling for Sofia, it’s not gonna be the same team who made rogue so it’s a risk. Imo Bordeaux haven proven competency, they need to be given a chance ahead of some of the ‘major’ teams, like Quebec and Montreal.

To be fair rogue story was good the problem was it was short and rouge realese the same day as unity and unity had better graffis and was long and cost the same but rouge was decent

I dont thin multibles protagonist it not a good idea because with one protagonist you will grow with the character because we only focouse on him but if they did like one game with one main character a dlc with another character in another city that could work

It sounds like it could be good, but I'm not going to give Ubisoft any money with how poorly they treat gamers. I'm not a cash cow.

Brother, I have been following your page right from the beginning and I wanted to bring this up when you posted 3 locations you want AC to take place in, but didn't because ut felt selfish. Now that Nebula has confimed that India is a setting they're considering, can you look into the rich history of Indian civilization and whcih time period could work well with Assassin's Creed? Kind of a selfish request, hut I tell you its worth looking into.
