Not since Steve McQueen in Tom Horn or Eastwood’s The Outlaw Josey Wales have I ever seen such a brilliant Western put together by its writer, director Potsy Ponciroli & cinematographer John Matysiak, Tim Blake Nelson delivers an outstanding performance as the lone father who speaks volumes in his minimalist dialogue. Everything about this film is simply award-winning From its opening frame to the final credit. I’m not one for handing out accolades but I have to say if I’m looking back on 2021 this is definitely one of those films that is on my top five list you’ve got a salute the team for all the work they put into this masterpiece because it is absolutely brilliant and well worth the watch. 10 out of 10 Potsy & his team @ Hideout Pictures. This has to be one of my favorite movies and one of the best movies to come out in some time. Great atmosphere and tension throughout.
Yeah, didnt think about it at the time, but its been 4-5months since I watched it. But, looking back one of the things I like about it, is the director purposefully chose days that were overcast, gloomy, wet. It set a tone for the whole thing that occurs probably over no more than say, 4-6days. Regardless it wasnt a traditional, horses, guns, wagons western but it was a western nonetheless, and one of my top 3 of the year
Stephen Dorff is underrated as hell. He deserves an even bigger comeback.

Every performer in every art form that appears on YT includes at least one genius proclaiming he/she/they is "underrated". Maybe we all are.

Anything with Tim Blake Nelson is worth watching.
Everyone watching this knows two things: 1.) this movie will be fantastic. 2.) it’s going to do terrible at the box office.

@@Van-tastic , I mean when a producer wants to interject a character as Billy the kid, more credit is deserved than a old washed up farmer, in hiding? Like a coward? that's offensive... he only hided to ambush law enforcement... Plus he died at 21, and still killed 9 ppl and participated in the Lincoln war, 1878, i'm watching this movie and going like,, what a ferk? total clusterfluke... /_ i don't consider myself to be a western movies buff and still felt like to punch something😝.... Billy's first arrest was because he was hungry and he stole food..... that gets you right on the feels.... 😰
@@karlwalter2242 well I watched it and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I agree the probably should have made his backstory into a fictional gun fighter, but it was still a fun watch!
Just watched it. Best western I've seen in a long long time. I'd go as far too say Clint Eastwood would be impressed.

Stephen Dorff needs to do more westerns. He's a natural for that genre! Outstanding well made film with a great third act!

WOOW, what a western. When nine bank robbers show up in front of the porch of a farmers house and the farmer tells them to leave or they will all die they didnt have a clue that the farmer was the forgotten but still alive and famous gunslinger ..... Yeah, you have to find out that surprise for yourself. This was GREAT. 😄👍
One of the best looking movies in nearly two years
This film is such a hidden gem. Watched a few minutes on HBO I think a month ago and was instantly hooked.
Love this movie! Nobody has any idea who this guy is but then they have that reveal and if you know you KNOW. All of a sudden the tables turn. Great film!
Been a fan of Tim since O Brother. Fucking stoked to see this now.

Love how people are saying a surprise ending! If you knew your history it wouldn’t have been a surprise. I knew it the whole time. Wish I didn’t because it would’ve made the film better for me. Must be you young guns out there that were surprised. Us older guys knew it the whole time.

I played with Tim Blake Nelson in Shakespeare's Richard III at the Delacorte theatre starring Denzel Washington. He was a real fun guy but very tiny. The Director would make fun of his size sometimes and he would never get mad. Cool guy.
one of the best westerns I have seen great story well filmed
Saw this film yesterday. It's been a long time since I have seen a really good new film. This was a really good film. Kind of film you don't forget easily, it makes an impression.
That "sheriff" in that scene (Dorff's character) just as much as said he didn't care if had to shoot someone in the back to get at them, as a matter of fact he "preferred" it. This looks like a half-way decent film, actually. And Trace is out here killin ' it lately, "13 Minutes", "Old Henry" *AND* "Apache Junction?" Awesome.
That first scene did nothing to entice me to the theater...however the rest of the trailer might have done so...then again maybe it was the ominous flatness of the first scene that springboards the rest of the trailer.

Kinda hard to believe this Sheriff hunted pheasant as a youth when the first one wasn't introduced in the US until 1881 in Oregon.
I also noticed that one of the characters is carrying a double action revolver with lanyard loop swivel. Looks to be a WWI Colt or S&W .45 or WWII S&W .38. Still, looks to be a good flick.

As a boy that grew up picking cotton and cutting and hanging tobacco I can say the ones you never want to mess with are the one who break their backs for a living. Tend to make short work of most obstacles and also have a tendency to escalate conflict by physical means.
Best western by far in a long time

The bird hunting scene is all wrong unfortunately. The birds are Dove which don't flush and have nothing to do with pheasants. That's what happens when Hollywood touches on a subject they don't know. It's a wonderful movie in spite of a few gaffes.

I just saw this. I was expecting a little more because of all the hype. I have seen more westerns than I can count. It was ok but nothing about the story felt new or original. Seemed a little typical to be honest. Tim Blake Nelson was perfect for being the lead though.
Best part is when Old Henry comes out on the porch talking Spanish!

Well goodness gracious me, an unwoke movie. That I'd like to see!
I don't much about pheasants, but cleaning a partridge around here is as easy to clean as stepping on the wings and pulling the legs.
But that could be a point about this scene.
First time, way back when, that I watched a movie trailer & saw Trace Atkins in it, I admit I was disgusted- 10,000 unemployed actors in Hollywood, & somebody decides to cast a country singer? However, time has proven that I was hasty in my judgment- based on what I'm seeing in this clip, it would appear that the man can actually act! Props!! ( Now, if I could just get past my worries about watching a movie directed by a man named _POTSY!_ )

With a pheasant or grouse you just hold the wings and head in one hand and the feet in the other and just pull. Guts, heads and wings one way and your meat and legs the other. Simple quick and saves a blade

I don't go to the theater anymore. I have a 66'' 4K OLED and I find it much better than paying to sit in a room with potentially covid-infected people who talk, sneeze, cough, crinkle their wrappers or get texts during the quiet parts of the movie. I can sit in my comfy chair, drink my cheap beer and munch on my Dollar Store chips without paying $35 for the "privilege" to do otherwise. Looks like a good movie, 'tho, so just let me know when it's out on Netflix or HBO Max.
