Thank you so much for doing this. I have been wanting to make it forever and wasn’t sure how to do it in the foodi. You are the best. I can’t wait to make this. Thanks again.
@@TheSaltedPepper As yo said the main difference is if you use Ground Beef or Lamb and the Gravy. With Cottage Pie I like to add a couple Tea spoons of Marmite, Vegemite or Yeast Extract. With Shepperd's Pie I might add a bit of Mint (A traditional acompliment to Lamb).
I will certainly try this recipe. My wife has Lyme's disease and can't eat meat anymore and this would be wonderful with the turkey as a substitute. And I must disagree with your comment that this is just like a restaurant. This was way better than anything I've ever seen in a restaurant so kudos to you. Thank you
Started cooking in the FoodI just this month, and your videos are the gold standard for instruction. I also love your personality, so you are my "go to gal" when it comes to cooking. Thanks for all your help. My husband wants to thank you too, he loves your recipes.
I have had my ninja for 6 month and haven’t dare to use. Till now! You are wonderful !! I think I will spend the next couple days watching your videos and then I should be good to go. Thank you. !! Can’t wait.👏👏❤️👵🏻
Well Louise my wife and I just made this (stuck in the house ) THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST Shepherds Pie we have ever had!!! So worth it!! My wife actually said "well I can't make mine anymore" LOL!! SO FLAVORFUL!!! You are the best thank you!!!!! Just so tasty and delicious!!!
Thank you so much for your un-complicated recipes. Unlike so many other cooking recipes, elsewhere, you don't use ingredients that I have never heard of. Your instructions are clear and so comprehensive, even for a base cook like me. Thank you so, so, so much.
I've been obsessed with your videos since I got my Ninja foodi! This is the most gorgeous looking cottage pie I've ever seen, it isn't dry like what I'd get from the oven. Can't wait to make it this winter!
I've had my Ninja Foodie 8qt for 4 days now... cooked my Thanksgiving ham, made Chicken Cordon Blue, bacon and eggs... and just tonight I made this Cottage Pie.. OMG this was superb !! Thank you... I love your videos!!
Congratulations on your new Ninja Foodi! I'm so glad to see that you are really using it as it was intended! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the cottage pie! Happy Cooking!
I just subscribed to my first TH-cam channel ever....thank YOU and your husband for doing this video... and many of the other videos myself and possibly we all have watched. I wanted to say its sooo refreshing you do not spam endorsements in your videos and let your experienced Ninja cooking talk! You just get-r-done. I bought my very special parents a Ninja 8 qt AF/PC (Air fryer/Pressure Cooker( so they can teach myself prior to jumping in on the air fryer/pressure cooking. I travel so much i actually relish the thought of the good ole down home cooking and my parents continued cooking guidance...love my parents and this new method of cooking gave them another activity in their 80th + years. Your a gem, please keep this channel going, we appreciate YOU!!!!
WOW thank you so much for sharing this, I have just bought a ninja, so all very new to this, I was able to follow your instructions really well and this was the best tasting cottage pie I’ve ever made. I can’t wait to try out some of your other recipes.
Just made your shepherds/cottage pie x it was awesome x your instructions were spot on and so easy to follow x I will be using your recipes first in future x I’ve only had my ninja for 3 days and I’m in love with the gorgeous monster x x keep ninja cooking x your the best x love Rose x x x
I’m making this at midnight 😂 my mawmaw got me a Foodi as a housewarming gift. I love it so much. Your videos are so amazing and help me out immensely. Thank you!
Oh this made my mouth water!! I'm doing a ketogenic diet...so I will follow this making change of potatoes with mashed cauliflower...but I can't wait to try this, thank you!!
So, i just started looking up Ninja Foodi recipes since I ordered one on the Amazon Prime deal. So far i've run into about 4 of your videos for specific recipes I was looking for. Love em! I have to say... you would do well to have a food show on something like the Food Network. Your videos already have that feel/vibe to them and Keep up the great work!.
I am going to make this to take to my parents home for our passing dish for this coming Easter Sunday dinner, and I cannot tell you how excited I am, I will be using venison from a nice doe I took last fall instead of beef or lamb, I can't help but think it's gonna be a massive hit! Thank you! I love your channel and I love my Ninja Foodi!
I made this tonight according to your recipe and it was fantastic!!! I could have eaten more than one plate it was so good. Thank you so much for your wonderful talent in the kitchen.
Hello Louise: Just wanted to pop in and let you know I tried this tonight for dinner. I had my doubts about this but tried it any way. It was fantastic and is something I will be making again. My husband and I both went back for seconds. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of use it was great.
I just found your channel yesterday. Neither my wife nor I can cook to save our lives. We have an InstantPot but are considering the Foodi as a replacement. Thank you for these informative videos, and the recipes. We’re going to pick up a Foodi this evening, and tomorrow I’m going to try this recipe.
That's wonderful! I bet you'll be surprised to find out that you both can cook! Try not to make any adjustments in recipes until you get more familiar. All the ingredients are chosen for specific reasons, some of course are flavor enhancers, some are for liquid content and some are chosen based on cooking times. It isn't as easy as swapping one vegetable for another when pressure cooking. I have some great articles on my website if you want to take a look. Here is how to use the Ninja Foodi: thesaltedpepper.com/how-to-use-the-ninja-foodi/ Please don't hesitate to ask me questions and you can join our Facebook Group Ninja Foodi 101 if you want. Congrats on the Foodi, you are going to LOVE it!
Hubby bought me the Ninja Foodi last Christmas 2018, and finally after watching many of your wonderful videos this past week, I pulled out the Foodi. Even joined the FB group! It's great because it doesn't heat up my kitchen in S. FL. I love your approach and method of explanation - learn something new every time. I've wandered around the TH-cam watching others using the Ninja, but you are in a class of your own and really have that Food Channel quality! I remember my British grandmother (60 yrs ago) making Shepherd's pie when I was a little girl. She did make it with a pie crust if my memory is correct. I loved it! I found a recipe years ago for making "Shepherd"s Pie" with lobster (cottage?) and it was absolutely delicious! Don't know what I did with the recipe, but it takes the dish up a notch, especially with wine in the sauce. Between Amazon and Pampered Chef I have a cabinet full of new kitchen cooking/baking items and my husband loves my renewed interest in cooking thanks to you! One request, if you ever come up with some meals that are converted to Keto, I would really appreciate your adaptation. I am seriously thinking of doing a Keto lifestyle diet (so hard cuz I love sweets), because I really need to cut back & lose some extra weight I have gained over the last several years. Any thoughts? Always watching and catching up! Great videos!!!
Hi Linda! Thanks so much for the kind words! I, too, need to lose weight after this past year of cooking and cooking and cooking! LOL I plan on focusing on healthy foods in January and since we eat low carb a lot of the time, I think you'll find the recipes very adaptable to keto. I don't follow keto and I do use some honey and things like that in my recipes, but they are definitely on the healthier side.
Thank you for taking your time and teaching us how to cook and make delicious food with love and care. I just got my foodie 8qt love it and learning step by step how to cook, and you’re helping with your lovely videos.
Just bought the 8 quart on Friday and the wife and I followed this recipe, it was awesome! We are looking at your other creations for our next meal. Enjoy the videos and the help, keep up the great work.
Hi Louise Randy from Maple Ridge BC again. I just got my NJ XL 8 qt today and made your cottage pie and it turned out great. My wife loved the flavor and how easy it was for me to make this , she does not cook. You are my go to gal , I love your video;s and your normal and fun way of cooking now. I am a newbie at this. so thank you so much.
I can't keep up with all the recipes i am going to make from watching your video's!!! From that awesome reuben sandwich to this cottage pie and everything in between!!!
I just used this recipe and it was delicious!! My mom has trouble eating but she had two bowls even my hubby likes it and he can be picky . Thank you I’m so grateful 😊
I just made this last night for the family and we all LOVED it! I did add 1/2 tsp of oregano just because I thought it sounded good but followed the rest of the recipe. The only thing my family said they wanted was more meat so maybe next time bump it up to 2 pounds and see if that makes a difference. But seriously, my picky eaters ate this with onions and garlic (I didn't tell them to look for it and diced onions really small) without picking it out and said they didn't know it was in there until they were finished eating when I told them what all was in it. Thank you for the delicious recipe!
I’ve been told by Ninja Robert Barnier that the Foodi will be available in Aus sometime in March. The 6.5 qt for sure, they were uncertain about the 8 qt at the stage when I spoke to them but I hope we get both. I’d take the larger one even though it will come at a cost here.
Great recipe and video and I'm certainly going to try this soon. I've had my ninja foodi about two weeks now and love it! Thank you for all the effort and inspiration you give. Full marks for nearly pronouncing worcestershire sauce correctly :) I'm from the UK and we just say it like it sounds "Woster Sauce"
LOL! That is so funny! Worcestershire is one of those words that gets me every time. I have a funny video clip of me saying it wrong and laughing the whole time.
What a great recipe! Thank you Louise for your inspirational teaching and guidance for a new Foodi owner...I feel confident in making my favorite recipes with the Ninja Foodi. Thanks again!
Made it last night and it was awesome! What wonderful flavors. We tried a recipe from the Ninja Foodi cookbook - epic fail. Not yours 2 for 2 and off the charts yummy. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe, I just made it and it is delicious! I made the roasted garlic added them to potatoes there were so good. It is a great idea to have everything prep ready to go.
Amazing!! This was delicious!! Thank you for making this video. This was absolutely delicious. I love watching your videos, they are so easy to follow and understand. I love your organization and that you stick to the point of cooking. Thank you so much.
Hi Louise try piping your mashed potato on, you’ll get a more even distribution. The lid gets in the way so I take the pot out of the ninja foodi so I can make a good job of piping the mash, you can then sprinkle you cheeses on before putting it back in to air crisp. Love your recipes and videos.
Great video, Shepherds pie was made with lamb as shepherds usually had this, as there job was looking after sheep. also it was usually made with a pastry base, that way they could easily carry it into the fields (their workplace) without any further packaging. It would be eaten cold. Your videos are excellent and look very professional.
Never had this and didn't think I'd like it and made it tonight loved it thankyou so much I'm a fan. Anything I make your videos are awsome and very simple to follow also the bread amazing I make that on a daily. :) thankyou
I loved playing "Spot the pampered chef item" with this video! I was a UK consultant and miss it so much. I will be making this tonight! wish me luck :-)
@@TheSaltedPepper it was beautiful, I didn't put the vegetables in the pie but it was really easy. Never thought to cook potatoes in he stock but it was really good!
Hey Louise I just made this and it is amazing!! I love the flavors!! Thank you for the recipe and the instruction!! You and Jeff are a great team!! Thank you both for all y'all do!!
Thank You Louise for sharing this Amazingly Delicious "Shepherds Pie". Very well explained and demonstrated ! We loved it and so simple to prepare!! Thanks Again!!
I am from the uk ,it's really nice to see your variations on foods we both eat on different sides,of the Atlantic, but also the uses of the ninja,I'd never have thought of...I've not got one yet,but am slowly coming round to the idea😊
As a born Scot, I am amazed at the combinations of ingredients included in your recipe. I am sure it is delish., but I guess as a purist of my families comfort food recipies I am trying to figure out how to make it in my newly purchased Ninja 8qt. We never used corn or garlic, not something in Scotland that was used 'back in the day', and we did not put cheese on it in my household either, kept it simple. I always have to use Bisto for my gravy and HP sauce on the side. But, I will give your recipe a try. Thank you for all of your tips. Love and light.
Yes, I definitely put a spin on the traditional way it's made, but it is very good if you like the added ingredients. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
Meal #2 in my new foodi and it was fantastic!! I've never been a fan of (Sheperds) Pie but I'm a convert now!! Added a take on your Mediterranean Greek Salad with it and it was as good as any restaurant meal! I might even like this better than the French Onion Chicken which was a major hit!! Thank you so much!!!
OMGOSH that looks amazing! I never knew you could adjust the temperature when using the Sauté function. So many great tips and hints. Yum. Gotta try this one! Thank you for another fabulous recipe!!!
Thank you so much! I would love to write a cookbook if I can find the time to create and test double the amount of recipes! I'm working on a plan though!
Absolutely delicious recipe thank you. I made one recipe using beef, the other lamb and both came out perfect.Having lived in Ireland for 7 years I am unable to replicate Irish stew that I enjoyed so many times there. Perhaps a future quest as many of your followers in the US have irish ancestry.
Thanks so much for sharing! I thought the 1 downside to the foodi vs instant pot was that you couldn't make yogurt in the foodi, but now I'm going to try! Thanks!
Amazing video! My cottage pie turned out great thanks so much for the tips. Looks fab and extra crispy with a criss cross pattern in the potato topping too! From Yvey (Manchester, England, UK)
By continuing to stir with a chop & stir once the meat was done you have turned it into baby food. I lived in the UK for over 10 years and my dad was from Scotland as well as his parents and grandparents who came here a long time ago. There is never any garlic whether it's fresh or roasted in a cottage pie or shepherd's pie. These were meant to be very quick meals because there is no crust that could be thrown together on a break from tending a flock or a busy day at home. Once UMass potatoes go on the top you want to make a pattern with a fork so that you've got Peaks and valleys and you only want a smattering of G's you don't want to cover the whole thing with a cup of two of cheese. Just a couple of tips and an FYI for anybody willing to read this! :-)
This is a very quick meal and there IS garlic in my recipe. It adds a great flavor. Just because you don't add something, doesn't mean that it can't be added. The meat was chopped to perfection, I assure you it was NOT the consistency of baby food. Your rude comments are completely unnecessary. Tips are great when they are helpful and kind. Your comments are so rude that I doubt anyone will find value in them.
I watch a lot of cooking videos on youtube mainly for instant pots cause that's what I have but I am super excited to get a Ninja Foodi now cause all your videos turn out awesome thanks so much New Fan of Salted Pepper :-)
Hi there young lady, This was my virgin journey with Norman the Ninja. I followed your instructions and made your cottage pie this evening for my family. I have a very picky eater for a son, he asked for seconds !!! You got a like & subscribe from me. Thank you. 😃👍
Just got the Foodi for Christmas and have watched so many of your videos and tried some of your recipes. I feel like every day I'm buying another utensil I see featured in your videos 😆. I love how you demonstrate how to actually do each and every step, suggest options for substitutes, point out which ingredients are optional, and link everything so it's so easy to go back and find whatever you need to reference. Have you ever tried making tamales or pozole in the Foodi?!
I tried tamales once and didn't get the filling right. They are on my list though. I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos. Here is my website in case you want to print the recipes: thesaltedpepper.com
Looks lovely! I’m going to make this this evening for friends. By the way, in the UK when we say ‘Worcestershire’, we don’t pronounce the middle syllable, and slightly elongate the first syllable so that it sounds like the ‘woo’ in ‘wool’, so ‘Wooster sauce’.
This is a fantastic dish. I think next time I will par boil the carrots. Mine took an extra twenty minutes on medium to really soften. Also, I took mine out of the foodi and put the the mix in individual pot pie bowls before I added the potatoes and cheese. Then I did the final heating in the oven. Everybody has there own masterpiece that way.
The Salted Pepper yes please I bet it would be delicious with your take on it. It’s pretty much the same thing but with a couple of different fish chunks and maybe shrimp in a white sauce baked with creamy mash on top. If you make one, I’ll be there and thank you 😊 xxx
Thank you for making all of these ninja foodi videos. I finally got one because I loved the concept and got a great amazon deal on it but once I opened the box I was immediately overwhelmed. Going to try this recipe tonight (subbing cauli mash to ketofy it) and I can’t wait. Thank you!!
You are so welcome, I love doing them! I love to cook and the Ninja Foodi really took me by surprise. I'm amazed at how well food turns out using it! I can't wait to hear how the cauliflower mash turns out, I love cauliflower and like to eat low carb when I can (testing these recipes has packed on the pounds for sure). Please let me know if you make and timing adjustments and most importantly how you liked it!
You are so sweet! Thank you! I'm having a lot of fun! If you haven't joined Ninja Foodi 101, you might like it. We have a great time in the group and I go live to answer questions, it's a terrific community. Thanks again and don't forget to keep me posted on the cauliflower mash!
Because of you I bought one of those MIX N CHOPS... Love it.. This pie looks great.. One suggestion for the mash.. add some Greek plain Yogurt to the Potatoes.. I did that to a Potato and Chicken Pot Pie I made the other day... MMMmmmmMMM
Hi Louise... I've watched quite a few of your videos now and have heard you say you struggle with mash. Once you have mashed, get a wooden spoon and beat hard... It's all in the finishing... I am the mash master.. lol. Also - might I suggest you add your carrots in a separate layer to the pressure cook? Save you overdoing the rest while waiting for carrots. Cheers x
I understand I'm late in watching this but it looks amazing. And I can't wait to make this for my family. Also I found the mix n chop at Dollar Tree. Total game changer since I bought it. Makes it so much easier to cook ground turkey and beef.
Thank you so much for doing this. I have been wanting to make it forever and wasn’t sure how to do it in the foodi. You are the best. I can’t wait to make this. Thanks again.

LOL! That is so funny! Worcestershire is one of those words that gets me every time. I have a funny video clip of me saying it wrong and laughing the whole time.
Another great recipe that I can’t wait to try
I hope you enjoy it!
Why am I watching this at 8 in the morning! I’m tempted to have it for breakfast! 😋
Nothing wrong with that!
What a great recipe! Thank you Louise for your inspirational teaching and guidance for a new Foodi owner...I feel confident in making my favorite recipes with the Ninja Foodi. Thanks again!
That is wonderful!
Great video! I love how you explain as you go along. My husband loves shepherd and cottage pie, I'll have to make this for him. Looks delicious!
Thank you! I hope you and your husband like the recipe!
Made it last night and it was awesome! What wonderful flavors. We tried a recipe from the Ninja Foodi cookbook - epic fail. Not yours 2 for 2 and off the charts yummy. Thank you!
I am so happy to hear this! I spend a lot of time testing my recipes so they turn out for everyone and it's nice to hear that they are! 😊
I was searching for are TH-cam video page to follow for my new ninja foodi . I believe I found my new home you do an excellent video!
Thank you so much! Congratulations on your new Foodi! You are going to love it!
Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe, I just made it and it is delicious! I made the roasted garlic added them to potatoes there were so good. It is a great idea to have everything prep ready to go.
Wonderful!
This recipe looks amazing! I can’t wait to try it in my brand new Foodi.
I hope you love it! Congratulations on the Foodi!
Amazing!! This was delicious!! Thank you for making this video. This was absolutely delicious. I love watching your videos, they are so easy to follow and understand. I love your organization and that you stick to the point of cooking. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much! I'm thrilled you loved the cottage pie!
Thanks! Great tip!
Thank you so much!
Never had this and didn't think I'd like it and made it tonight loved it thankyou so much I'm a fan. Anything I make your videos are awsome and very simple to follow also the bread amazing I make that on a daily. :) thankyou
So glad!
You are the perfect cook for me
Thank you so much!
Love your style of cooking, great recipe. I found a potato ricer helps get an even layer over the top
I loved playing "Spot the pampered chef item" with this video! I was a UK consultant and miss it so much. I will be making this tonight! wish me luck :-)
Hope you enjoy it!
@@TheSaltedPepper it was beautiful, I didn't put the vegetables in the pie but it was really easy. Never thought to cook potatoes in he stock but it was really good!
Shepherd’s... Cottage... whatever you call it, this looks perfect! Thanks for another great video.
SkyFocal Thank you!

You are welcome! I’m so glad you loved it!
I am from the uk ,it's really nice to see your variations on foods we both eat on different sides,of the Atlantic, but also the uses of the ninja,I'd never have thought of...I've not got one yet,but am slowly coming round to the idea😊
Thanks so much! I know you would love the Foodi!
Loving this. Gonna give it a go. Thanks
I hope you love it!
That's awesome to hear, thank you!
OMGOSH that looks amazing! I never knew you could adjust the temperature when using the Sauté function. So many great tips and hints. Yum. Gotta try this one! Thank you for another fabulous recipe!!!
fulluvjoy Thank you!
This looks Devine! Making it this weekend! Thank you 🙏🏼 please write a cookbook for your recipes 💕
Thank you so much! I would love to write a cookbook if I can find the time to create and test double the amount of recipes! I'm working on a plan though!
That looks outstanding! Trying this one! YUM!
Hope you enjoy it!
I had an Irish Stew on my list to make, but haven't done it yet.
OMGsh...this looks amazing! I WILL be making this and the roasted garlic. Thank you.
Evelyn Bond YAY! I hope you love it! Can’t wait to hear what you think.

I hope you love it!
I love your channel and you are such a fantastic vlogger
Thank you so much! I also have a website with all my written recipes: thesaltedpepper.com
Thanks so much for sharing! I thought the 1 downside to the foodi vs instant pot was that you couldn't make yogurt in the foodi, but now I'm going to try! Thanks!
I haven't found anything that the Foodi can't cook!
Looking forward to trying this recipe out this week :)
I hope you enjoyed it!
Awesome! I’m definitely going to make this!
Brenda Carr can’t wait to hear how you like it!
Amazing video! My cottage pie turned out great thanks so much for the tips. Looks fab and extra crispy with a criss cross pattern in the potato topping too! From Yvey (Manchester, England, UK)

I just received my ninja foodie today and this will be the first meal I make with it!!
I hope you love it!
@@TheSaltedPepper two wrongs don't make a right.
I watch a lot of cooking videos on youtube mainly for instant pots cause that's what I have but I am super excited to get a Ninja Foodi now cause all your videos turn out awesome thanks so much New Fan of Salted Pepper :-)
Thank you so much! You will LOVE the Ninja Foodi!
Hi there young lady,
This was my virgin journey with Norman the Ninja.
I followed your instructions and made your cottage pie this evening for my family.
I have a very picky eater for a son, he asked for seconds !!!
You got a like & subscribe from me.
Thank you. 😃👍
That is so wonderful to hear!
I ordered my ninja 😍 the white one can’t wait to try ur recipes
Kohana P That’s awesome! I can’t wait to hear what you think! ❤️
This looks divine. It’s one of my all time favourites. Another one is fish pie! Do you have a recipe for fish pie? I’d love to see that. Xxx 💜
I don't and I can't say that I've ever heard of fish pie. I'll have to look it up!
Thank you!!
BTW I hope they start sponsoring you. If I were them I would’ve invested in your channel yesterday.
MMMmmmmMMM
David Lemon Thanks! I’m glad you like the Mix N Chop! How are you doing?
So crazy.. I just started following you on Facebook and had no idea!!
Welcome!!
Great recipe I love sheppard pie really scrumptious. From Trinidad
Thank you!
Cheers x
I’m definitely making this tomorrow night, yum! Roasted garlic was a nice touch too! New subscriber😊
I hope you love it!
I made this yesterday and it was a big hit!
I'm so glad you liked it!
I understand I'm late in watching this but it looks amazing. And I can't wait to make this for my family. Also I found the mix n chop at Dollar Tree. Total game changer since I bought it. Makes it so much easier to cook ground turkey and beef.
Great video! Can’t wait to try making this.
I hope you love it!
