  • We are getting ready for a long trip out west and making a few improvements to the GeoPro that we have been putting off. This week's upgrade is a new toilet - the Dometic 310. It is part porcelain and has some nice upgraded features from the one our camper originally came with - the Dometic 300. We have heard good things about the 310 and decided it was worth the $200 price tag.
We will walk you through the install, talk about some of the benefits and a couple of downsides of the new unit and we have a couple of tips along the way!
CORRECTION - we mention that the toilet adds approx 30 lbs to our weight but the item weight listed on the website we purchased from incorrectly included the shipping box. It does add some weight but only between 15 and 20 lbs. So a few extra pounds to pack!
    Chapters:
    0:00 Introduction to the video
1:32 What comes in the box
2:00 Getting ready for the install
    2:32 Tools needed
    3:30 The Install - Part 1 - Removing
    4:37 Tip #1 - A fast food cup!
    5:18 The Install - Part 2 - Resetting
7:05 What are our thoughts on it?
    8:00 Tip #2 - Filter cleaning
As always thanks for watching and please let us know if you have any questions!
*This video is for entertainment purposes only as we are not RV experts. We are sharing our thoughts and ideas based on our experiences but we always recommend doing your own research and coming to your own conclusions on your camping and RV needs and modifications!

Perfect timing for me a whole year later !!!! Picked up an R-Vision Trail-lite 2001 first of Feb. OH MY GOSH it's THE VERY FIRST RV I've ever owned. It is in good condition overall. Zero damage to interior or exterior except for an age nick or two. It had zero TLC until the last person who owned for less than six months. I've been ordering and gathering upgrades and repair items for her but until it warms up for now I've put her under a new RV cover to protect her from our Ponderosa tree sap and debris and any possible snow and rain we'll be having. No. 1 priority is to have her reseal and new gaskets around the coach windows. For me the backup camera which already came is equal priority. And along with a number of other items collected to install and upgrade her it's most actual work is on hold until we warm up. She was winterized last Oct so it would be a perfect time to upgrade the LOO. It has a Thetland I believe original toilet. Stained & much yellowed now. Plastic. I've got a new bathroom faucet & shower head ready to go in along with a freezer door repair piece. Temps are still huddled around 30's day time. So all work is on hold. I've got fabric ordered to reupholster her dinette and sofa & can work on that when the fabric arrives. Most of her previous owners just didn't show her any love. Her bones and engine are in good condition. I looked at the 310 thinking it was the best option. But Amazon's negative reviews mostly about the damage during shipping scared me off. I then contacted Etrailers who have it for 215 shipping included and asked about the shipping damage and they assured me they had customers back on that. So watching your video I'm ready to order it. OH I didn't realize this was going to add ~ up to 30#'s more. Good to know. In a 22 year old B+ that can be significant. But like you mentioned even knowing or being aware of some of these possible negatives might not change your opinion of still making that upgrade choice. I am surprised is all that I hadn't seen that in my searches. The 320 I don't think would fit this Trail-lites itty bitty wet bath. So appreciated your calm approach to this task too and great tips and simple how to get it done successfully. I am concerned about the condition of the black flange into the floor. Yours looked like new but your RV is a lot younger than mine. So I may order it at the same time as the toilet just in case rather than wish I had later. I copy pasted your link for me to find it to watch later then. Thanks for your share ...

Congrats on the new camper! It is always so much fun to make them your own! We owned an older class c prior to this that we swapped out almost everything on haha!
So the 310 - we still are very pleased with the upgrade. No issues at all! And - we do apologize but the good news is the weight difference isn’t that much! After we installed it, we had looked at the online description for the weight but it was incorrect. Seemed reasonable as was porcelain vs plastic. But someone commented that they didn’t think it was that much, we did see some additional research and found that it really isn’t that much of a difference! (would have to read back through the comments to see the exact). So we don’t regret the upgrade at all!
Thanks for watching and let us know how the remodel goes!

It is porcelain (well the bowl - the base is plastic but think that is true for most if not all). There is a 320 as well but that one is a bit bigger so wouldn’t fit for us. Rockwood maybe went to 310 on everything to keep it simple.

I have a 2021 19FD, so mine apparently came with the dometic 310, but I do not have the soft closing toilet seat that you have. The rest of my comments are off topic for this video. I recently plugged in at a campground and heard a loud pop from inside the trailer. I went around and looked inside to see a trailer full of smoke! My air conditioner, microwave, electric water heater, and all the receptacles inside and out did not work. The dealer repaired all of my problems under warranty since the trailer is only about 4 months old. While I was there, I was complaining to the service tech about my batteries and their lack of capacity. I told him that if I didn't get multiple hours of sunlight each day, I wouldn't have enough battery capacity to get to the next day, and had to run my tow vehicle to charge the batteries to keep them above 50%. He told me the biggest energy waster in these trailers is the powered TV antenna. He claims it uses more energy than the refrigerator because it's on 24/7, while the refrigerator will cycle on and off. So, look behind your television and where the 12 volt plug is to power your TV, there is a push button switch for the TV antenna. If you're not using the TV, turn the antenna off and see if your batteries don't last much longer in a boondocking situation.

One of the best investments you will ever make in your Geo Pro is a lithium battery(ies). I cannot even explain to you the difference it makes. There are videos on this channel with the mods including the addition of suitcase solar panels in addition to your roof panels. A little spendy, but we considered it an investment. Do a quick search, and watch some of their other videos anyway. These guys are great. And just normal, everyday folks.

      @WinesPinesandCanines  2 ปีที่แล้ว

@David We did not realize there were two versions on the 310! It is definitely not necessary but is a cool feature haha.
Wow! That is not good - did they say what caused it to smoke up? Definitely glad it was covered!!
Yes - those small silent items can be a battery killer. We always turn the battery disconnect off when in storage. But that is a great tip to keep that antenna off if you aren’t using. Question - what batteries did your dealer install?
Appreciate the watch - thank you! Hoping your camper is back with you and you have some great fall trips to look forward to!

@@WinesPinesandCanines The smoke apparently came from the microwave. Curiously, nothing in the trailer was turned on when I plugged in, yet the microwave, the GFCI receptacle near the sink, and some circuit breakers blew. Plus I have an expensive surge protector on my plug. The service tech couldn't explain how it happened. When I got back from the dealership to plug in back "home", I first turned all my breakers off, plugged in, then turned them all back on. Don't know if that would have prevented my problem. Still have a problem... I'm plugged in now and my batteries aren't charging. When plugged in, the battery capacity should always be at 100%. It's nearly 1:00 AM and my batteries are down to 73%, so it looks like another 200 mile round trip to the dealership is in my future.

I bought everything and watched this video on Saturday, and installed my new toilet myself on Sunday with very little mess. I went to the 320 with a bidet seat. Replaced a Thetford in my Winnebago. The thetford had the bolts in front and back instead of the sides. Took me over an hour to figure out how to fix that. Ended up wasting a lot of time as I finally figured out I could just dril holes and use the oscilating tool to cut new slots to the new holes. I hate it when I make the easy things so hard. ;)

While waiting for my trailer to be delivered last year, that was one of the upgrades I was researching. Fortunately, I waited on ordering one, because when the unit showed up, it already had a 310 installed. I'm still not clear on whether my GeoPro is a 2020 or a 2021--some documents say one, some say the other--and with all the supply chain issues in the industry, they seem to be shipping RVs with a mixture of parts, depending on what's available at the moment.
I'm getting ready to head home from Telluride this morning. It was a great trip, Covid restrictions aside, but I really miss my GeoPro. The R-Pod I rented is okay for one person, especially if you're basically just sleeping in it, but I hate the bathroom. It's a "wet bath," which means it's basically like an airplane bathroom with the addition of a shower head. Not really ideal for someone who's 6'1" and 190 lbs.
I really hope Dexter comes through with my new axle soon!

And yes - everything seems to be in short supply!! I don't think we have been in an Rpod but had a relative recently borrowed one from their family member - it was a little small for them as well. And yes - a wet bath was a deal breaker for us. Figure everything would always be wet and humid. And let us know when the axle comes in - hopefully it will be upgraded as well! I believe so. Found this question asked on etrailer.com
www.etrailer.com/question-522103.html and they recommended part DOM75FR. Have no experience with this part but that might be what you are looking for!

We haven't had a problem cooling with ours. It is a 2 way - propane and electric. Do you have the same or the new 12V? Does the light come on? Or does it cool off at all?

So we had the opposite problem at one point - would get too cold. It was the thermistor (I think that is the official name lol - its a white cord that has the plastic end) wasn't connected to the lever that goes up and down. Is yours attached and is the lever up or down? Those are two simple things it could be. And do you have a thermometer in it to see if it (or the freezer) is working at all. Lastly - is it really hot out where you are? I often put a bag of ice in it and it cools it down quick but when we camp when its hot, it struggles to keep below 40.

I would only add you should sit on toilet before tightening nuts down.

anyone watching this, dont buy the 310 if you're a man. it is a daily struggle. i just installed the 320 and its sooooooo much better. the 320 is just like a normal house toilet

Do you still have the 310 by chance. I’m looking for the part that connects the base to the bowl, it has two seals on either side of a clear plastic divider. One is rectangular and the other is round. I can’t find it anywhere and there is an article I read about a replacement for that that only has one rubber seal but I can’t find that either. Our 310 is old that the 4 screws that hold the base to the bowl have been rusted out and deteriorated.

Thanks again… I really appreciate your videos and have actually done most of the improvements you suggest in your videos and I have been living full time in mine with my dog for 2 months. So for that thanks and Linda your organizing tips sure helped. I am wondering in your model when your a/c runs does the fan run constant? In mine it does and the noise is driving me nuts so If is the same. how about installing a Coleman-Mach Bluetooth assembly to fix that ?
I have mine ready to install but in the Texas heat I’ve been reluctant so perhaps in your preparation for a trip out west you might be interested and even make us a video. Here is one for another rig but I am more comfortable with yours m.th-cam.com/video/h3vscvx492A/w-d-xo.html&feature=share

Hi! Thank you for the kind comments - appreciate that. So glad that you have found some of our suggestions helpful! So, yes - the fan runs constant and is loud as well. We added the vent in the middle and that has helped some but we have had our eye on that bluetooth model. We have watched a couple of install videos and have read up on forums about others that have done it. We don't do alot of summer camping - love fall / winter / spring but the hot days of summer camping are limited so we haven't purchased yet. If you put it in, would love to know how it goes!! Again - thank you and thanks for watching!
