You can tell Robbie fully supports Spider-Man “HE’S A HERO!” “I told you he’s not a menace!” The way he looks heartbroken as he holds Spider-Man’s mask
It's actually really sad seeing him hold Spiderman's mask, you can tell he's visibly upset and with that subtle hint from earlier that he knew Peter was Spiderman, he was probably thinking, "Dammit Pete, why?". Some of the most underrated acting ever and truly an amazing performance from the late great Bill Nunn.
A lot of people always miss raimis small acting directing, in scenes like the graduation ceremony we see Harry look at his dad and slowly walk away as his dad congratulates Peter, people can see this as just doing nothing but it's clearly harry feeling annoyed that he doesn't get his dad's praise
Yeah tbh in hindsight there should've been a scene where Peter goes into work and Robbie, making it obvious to Peter, speaks loudly about how good Spiderman really was and how badly the city needs him
He's mind was like, "Oh Peter always there when Spidey is there" and come to think of it at Octavius presentation,; Hang on how did Spidey was there when Peter was .... hmmm... and he did that giveaway
1:41 the moment he grabs his mask as though he's ashamed of what Jonah is saying and looks upset breaks my heart. Let's not forget he knew Peter is Spider-Man with the "I heard Spider-Man was there." It makes it even more sad cuz he knows peter is going through trouble.
Fun fact, Bill Nunn is the son of Bill Nunn Jr. One of the most famous scouts in NFL History, scouting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was influential in drafting 4 Hall Of Fame players in one draft (a remarkable feat) and who will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame this year.
1:12 Robbie knew at that moment Peter was Spider-Man. Robbie is a GOAT knowing Peter’s secret yet keeping it on the down-low and feeling bad for Peter when his suit was found in the garbage
In hindsight, Robbie's concern in this scene means a lot more since he most likely knows Peter is Spider-Man. He knows Peter gets a lot of stick in his personal life and knows Jameson makes life a living hell for him by slandering him as Spider-Man. In the Spectacular series his son attended the same High School as Peter so they had a more deep connection and most of the time Robbie knew how much of a hell High School was for Peter. Here he knows that Peter is having money problems and he most likely knows he's struggling a lot behind closed curtains. So to see Spider-Man's suit just lying in the trash must really worry him about Peter's safety and mental health since he knows Peter never gives up. So whatever happened must have severely broken Peter emotionally to the point where he's too depressed to be Spider-Man. So that look he gives to the garbage man and the way he caresses the Spidey mask symbolize his concern and care for Peter. Sam Raimi, you are a genius. And the acting sells it all
J. Jonah Jameson = Principal Joseph Robbie Robertson = Vice Principal Hoffman = Teacher Betty Brany = Teacher Peter Parker = Nerd Student Eddie Brock = New Student
What a truly caring, hardworking, aware and very chill man robbie is. It would have been awesome to see him talk to Peter more. Especially in terms of peters hard work of balancing both his lives.
But when I was a child, I did not even notice him. Now I'm watching the 1994 animated series where this hero is present. The actor coped well with the role and conveyed the character of the hero, it is a pity that he passed away. Cool character. Who was as good to Spider-Man as he was? I apologize if there are any mistakes, I am from Russia
Even tho he saw Peter get upset at Eddie and was understanding of the situation he still was worried for Peter. You could see it. Truly caring this guy is.
I hate that Robbie’s not much of a character in other forms of media because he was a really great character in the 90’s cartoon and at most he gets a few lines in the movies and a couple scenes in the spectacular cartoon at most he gets a couple moments in the 2nd game with the photo missions other than he’s criminally underused
