I think that maybe Kirsten Dunst should’ve played Gwen Stacy instead of MJ and she would’ve actually died when she gets dropped off the bridge in the first movie. That would’ve been more comics accurate to how that scene originally went down.

Given Peter's reaction, it clearly isn't the case. To him, Jameson saying that is one of his ways saying "Dismissed." The only time Jameson actually means it is to Eddie. Tone and attitude in such sentences does matter in this case.
