The Holy60 & Awekeys Metal Keycaps?

- Okay bear with me here, I know this a longer stream and lots of stuff going on! The metal keycaps were part of a sponsored stream, however this does not change the way i think about the board or alter my thoughts in anyway.
First of the holy60 is ... interesting? To me the bundle they are offering on KBDFans with the hall effect switches is awkward. The board sounds rattly due to the switches hitting the bottom of the PCB and it just isn't that good despite me modding the switches.
Performance wise it's good so far! The software works but I haven't had a chance to do a deeper dive into all the small things that go into an HE PCB. That will be coming soon. The case did sound pretty fun with the metal keycaps and even better with the standard 60% build i swapped it for eventually with stand MX switches. I would JUST buy the case unless you need HE switches for something. The bundle to me just doesn't sound good.
Now those metal keycaps... Finish wise it's good quality and I had fun using them despite them sending me a "misprinted" cap (an extra L)... One GLARING flaw with these is the stems. I totally get they are 'designed to be adjustable' (according to them) to support different switch stem tolerances and after stream I DID manage to adjust all these to my liking, but it was time consuming and delicate and not a fun process. I strongly encourage them to include a tool designed to do this. Otherwise, only get those if you want a metal keycap aesthetic and if you want to tinker tuning metal keycaps.
To be clear, I totally get why they need to be adjusted, I have had metal keycaps destroy stems in the past, I just wish they came with a tool to adjust them.
Overall I ended up having a lot of fun with the caps. I actually left them on my boards. They are definitely not cheap, but I wouldn't expect full metal keycaps to be cheap. However with the stems needing to be adjusted, they are a bit hard to recommend. In fact, I would skip on these until they include a proper tool in the box.

Hey all, as usual I try to give more of my thoughts in the description of the youtube video after I get to use these boards for a few days!
UPDATE: At this time I probably would pass / skip on the metal keycaps until they include something in the box to adjust the stems and work on customer service aspects on their business. A few folks have attempted to adjust these themselves and some have broken them sadly and their CS is now helping them. It's clear that if they want it to be adjustable, they should support that model of their product.
LOVE YALL HAVE A GOOD ONE.
19:46 to 😮
Perfect candidate for silent switches. Purely aesthetic build.
That was my thought, it does look pretty cool but a bit expensive for what it is I think. Still neat to see something new.
Big thanks for you for testing the Holy60 case with different PCBs and switches.
sounds like a keyboard
thanks toenail tim
That is an astute observation my dear sir
Repent and believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ and you will be saved 😄
@@GamingWLexxno one caresssss
Already had this on order. It looks so sick and it'll be my first time trying he switches.
Ay right on time! Love the vids!
Appreciate it! I hope the day is treating you well!
The HE switches they offer have a open bottom housing. The newer Gateron magnet Jade HE switches solved that issue with a sealed bottom housing like a traditional switch, sounds much nicer with almost no wobble.
It's alright but I think it's just the design of gateron's HE switch design they can't remove that hollow spring rattle they all have. Dunno maybe let gateron cook a little longer or some other manufacturer can improve on the HE with mx housing design switches.
@@christiancabiles8498 I overlubed my lekker springs and the ping pretty much non existent at this point
Only HE switches I've tried that don't have HE rattle + wobble are Geon's Raptors with lubed Lekker 60 stem and springs. It makes the switches actually sound really solid
A Polycarp insert under the holes would be a huge dub but the amount of work for that would be insane
The rattling sound is coming from the Gateron HE switches' top housing having horrible stem wobble. Been the case for a lot HE switces in the early Gateron designs. Been fixed on the Jades, and the Geon Raptor HE's though.
they took "hollow sounding keyboard" and embraced it lmfaoo
Alex, could you suggest a 60% pcb that has a 2.4ghz dongle that would fit into this? I REALLY like the look of this, but I really like my zoom75. So, I'd like to use this case with some random wireless 60% board if possible.
LOL love the all gold board at the end there
never imagined i'd ever see keycaps with Thai legends on an Alexotos video!
gateron released magnetic jade switch recently, which bottoms out like long pole switch and it sounds like them too.
They now offer a PC case, but no longer offer the HE PCB sadly. I'm considering the PC case with silent switches, either plateless or PC plate for a really lightweight portable build.
the board name itself justifies my reaction
Looks fancy for sure - but that is definitely one of the sound profiles in the world...
you should try using the magnetic jades on these. They cover up the hole at the bottom so they sound a lot less hollow like usual he switches
fullmetal al"key"mist looks dope
Bit odd they include support for split backspace but the plates don't support it... I really want to just get the PCB and add it to one of my 60s
Killmat gets rid of the metal tick and makes spacebar poppy for these metal keycaps, also instead of adjusting keycaps stem, using a tiny piece of tissue paper or glad wrap on switch stem for loose keycaps is much easier and less trouble
ordered a holy60 for my wooting, looks so cool & w the silicone between pcb & plate its really quiet even without a case(i used it caseless on the wooting foam for a week until my tofu came in) so i imagine it wont sound too different in here w all the holes. super hype for it
Did it already arrive? I was under the impression it was still preorder! I would LOVE to know more about this combo!
It's still on pre-order. Bought mine 2 months ago ... they will be released in March ... for a full build ( bought the HE kit, but i have a 60% pcb here for mx switches ) @@alexotos
@@alexotosIt is still on preorder but OP didn’t mean he had it already I think.
Yeah, I'm doing the same right now. I'm using the wooting 60HE+ PCB with the L45 switches and the foam underneath, while waiting for the Holy case. I can't use my KBD75v2 with cream switches anymore because they feel too heavy now 😅 might switch to the L60s eventhough I kinda like the light press.
@@fabi8581 get gateron jade HE theyre very light but sooo nice
Are there any third party springs compatible with hall effect switches? I attempted spring swapping the Gateron magnetic jades with L60 springs but they're still a bit light for my liking.
Wooting are releasing their own spring packs soon, which goes up to L100 and I think L80; also down to L20
Bro can u do a toturial for Building own Keyboard with flowprofile pbt Shine through keycaps and a Volumeknob ?
What are the beige keycaps he's using on the holy?
Those are the Gateron KS-20 Orange Switches by the way, not the “2.0” Gateron KS-20U Dual Rail Switches. The latter aims to drastically reduce stem wobble and rattle although its upstroke will sound similar. I don’t doubt we’ll see a silent magnetic switch soon as HE is in fact the future of keyboards. 💯
Kinda feel ilke some O rings in between the pcb and the case could have solved the spacebar rattle to an extent. Combining that with some spacebar foam would prob have solved it completely.
Unsurprising that the flex cut equivalent of a keyboard case would ALSO sound extremely flat and hollow
I honestly found it to sound pretty interesting with regular MX switches. Would be curious as to what this sounds like plateless now...
does anyone know which pcb he used in the holy60 with the nixies?
Love everything about he switches except the sound. really hope to see some improvements
Like wise, it was interesting doing all these different experiments with it
I switched out my Wooting to have the Gateron Jades and they sound much better by closing the bottom hole. You lose some key travel but the sound is very different.
@@Zeberko thanks I'll have to try them out. I was worried about the light springs and they seem a bit pricy
does this case have a matching wrist rest?
What kind of key caps are the beige ones?
Holy shit this keyboard looks cool
Are these the satin gold or standard gold version?
I wonder why awekeys haven't done what cerakeys did with they keycaps by making the stem part plastic
Its the viper mini SE but as a keyboard
HE switches will always sound that way sadly, the switches are not making full connection with the PCB as well, linking the top plate and PCB for a more solid sound
what's the deskmat ?
the case "should" be compatible with the WootingHE60 board, that they are now selling stand alone as well. Its also based off the Redux kit for the Wooting.
It looks cool but it's sad that you have to find certain switches to make it sound okay. I really love building different boards with all kinds of switches (mainly tactile). I have Cherry Browns, Baby Kangaroos, Durock T1s, Glorious Pandas, and a few others. But I love the Durock T1s. They are my favorites right now. Them and the Glorious Pandas. Though the Pandas have a large amount of flawed switches in the boxes. I had to get an extra box just because so many were damaged or didn't work. I tried them in other boards too. For some reason, like 10 of them simply didn't work. But, they feel and sound great.
What is the discount code you have?
What mouse is that? is it MX Master?
I just want silent HE switches. I don't see the point in all the noise, personally, and this would be a cool case for a silent keyboard.
If you don’t care about sound then this keyboard is for you! Looks good, but obviously isn’t gonna sound as good as other keyboards
Alex you have a LEICA???
thinking of getting a wooting + this case but idk if all 60% are the same sizes >_o
holy 60 fits on the wooting 60 pcb
@@cjnels0 Let’s GOOOOOOOOO
Better have some level 1000 dust proof switches
Kailh sakura magnetic would have sounded better, i have gateron clear magnetics and they make the exact same rattle as those orange switches
The mods/stabs sound bad...but I actually like the alphas. There's no HE switch timbre anymore lol
My holy60 is en route an im hype
Holy 60 is really cool but that nametag is dumb. I don't need or want branding on my custom keeb. If I wanted branding I'd get a Pulsar or Corsair. I also don't want people to be able to tell what my keeb is, unless they're a keeb nerd and can recognize it by the design, I want them to ask me about the cool custom keyboard I put together.
The gold keep looks like the gold Zelda nintendo cartridges! Now you all like it don't you?!
i really want this but i absolutley dont have the money for it
c
that's so funny to see thai beige keys
I love it non HE
Looks cool but that sound is so empty
You should check out their awekeys copper eagle keycaps its a full copper set
Metal Keycaps are HEAVY and need a heavy kind of switch...
backlight on that would be insane
sounds like a razer xD
yeah my god the holy60 with hall effect switches is not good, we'll definitely need a few more iterations of these switches before they sound good..
Edit: its most def the HE Switches on it they're just so tinny
Put some clicky switches in there XD
Interesting eyes.
the stream comments are funny. "it sounds hollow" lol i wonder why
LMAO it can't ping/resonate if it's all hollow!
Alex, would it be possible to mod the board and drill the standoffs to do gummy oring?
It would be tough. I would instead try a burger mount. I did that on my og tofu and it sounds pretty good!
@@matttimm452 agreed, it would probably be a bit tough to so just becuase of the way the case is done
You could say this keyboard is holey
he switches just sound so bad
I do not like that metal spacebar AT ALL, yuck. The keycaps look amazing though. And something about the Gateron HE switches (maybe PCBs) doesn't sound good, in ANY board/case I've tried with them.
KBDfans does sell the holy case separately, FWIW. I'm considering picking one up, since I have a few extra wilbatechs and generic aliexpress 60% pcbs lying around that are just gathering dust
I think it looks absolutely incredible, however that sounds like absolute trash 🤣.
ooh it's bad
You now have 2 L keys on the horizon. In case you didn't notice.
Oh we totally noticed and laughed about it on stream.
Yeah I was watching and I could not figure out why your layout was off. Ashamed to say it took me a few minutes to figure that out. But great vid as usual love the content!@@alexotos
Let me say this before I give my opinion of the 2 metal keycap sets that I bought from Awekeys, received in February of 2024 and have now tried. I have well over 70 custom keyboards which I have built and am more than willing to spend serious $ on quality boards, switches, keycaps, etc..... That said, these keycaps are utter garbage and it is absolutely impossible that Awekeys could not have known this before they shipped these "crap" keycap sets out to us. Awekeys must think that we are all just a bunch of dim-wits, morons and rubes to actually ship this useless dung to their customers. In my opinion, this is scam at worst and complete incompetence at best....How anyone at Awekeys can wake up in the morning and go to work and not be embarrassed and humiliated by this total debacle and disaster is beyond me....
This experience has left me absolutely disgusted.....I could have literally set my $ on fire and been happier.....
Holy60 case first 60% case I’ve been interested in for a while. Everything else is plain rectangular block and boring as hell. I’m dropping in a 60HE purely for gaming, couldn’t care less about the sound. Keyboards these days seem to be sound first and quality based on sound. Becoming a joke.
A lot of people only care about sound.
I don't understand the price for this Holy60 board, 330euro. This is just simplest tray mount, no weights, no pvd, no copper, nothing special in sound profile, standard pcb, no battery, no wireless, nothing special in feeling (because of stiff tray mount). Case looks nice (but it is preference only) and that's all what this board has to offer. And you pay for that 330euro, really?
Yo wtf it sounded insane without the deskmat
Other people having to bend the stems is a crap excuse for terrible design. I tried to fix my back space with a gentle bend on one of the stems and it snapped at the base. 90% of the keycaps in my set don't fit. Awekeys hasn't replied to my emails. All these youtubers just feel like advertisements to induced FOMO . Maybe I just need to accept my L and leave the hobby.
Horrible sound. Looks OK, but for that price totally underwhelming
Oh yeah, the HE PCB / switches are awful sounding
Sounds so bad
LOL oh yea!
