Very close sound and response for lows and highs! I like the sound of the R2850db slightly more. Vocals and mids are more detailed and it just makes the overall sound nicer to my ears.
Yamaha definitely sounds closer to the source, but the Edifiers sound much more pleasant to my ears with deep bass and the nice gentle scoop. I'd take the Yammys for studio monitors and the Eddies for listening speakers. That's a tie.
The difference in speakers these days is much more subtle than it was years ago, no speakers sound bad anymore, just slightly different. It’s like the difference between cream or custard on your apple pie, the apple pie is the important part, the sauce is just a matter of taste. Both are very tasty, just depends what mood you are in.
Well said mate. I had never heard it explained that way before. Yeah, just something about reading your message made me have that 'aha' moment... thanks. Have a great day!
@@fracterayeah diminishing returns started at the 1000 dollars mark before now they start at much lower price range. You can get some quality speakers for cheap these days
Edifier sounds punchy like HIFI speakers should. The Yamaha's are flat which is exactly what they're supposed to be as studio monitors. They're both good in the roles they were meant for. Obviously were I a content creator or wanted the most accurate representation of what I'm listening to I'd take the Yamaha's but for someone who isn't an enthusiast the Edifiers are perfectly fine. There's of course also a cost element. A single one of the Yamaha's costs more than a pair of the Edifiers.
They sound very similar but given the fact that you can put multiple sources into the edifier its hands down the winner. I wont do anything but opticle from my computer and the lack of that on the yamaha is a no go for me. Sound wise they are so similar I don't know which I prefer. I can hear a difference but I can't say which I like more.
Just got a set of R2850DB's for the price less than a single HS8. For me the this and the connectivity (optical & BT) of R2850DB's is a no-brainer deal. The Yamaha's sound pure, while Edifiers sound richer.
With the edifier you can def tell on those two crossover peaks. The sub bass is hollow compared to HS8. I’d say the technical performance is better on eddi but tuning and integration are better in HS8. Jazz con cajon is the song you can hear the greatest separation in tuning.
I have the 2850 for about a week now. It's a very engaging speaker thanks to it's midrange. It's an experience I never heard before despite my old Pioneers also being 3-way with 8 inch woofers. They are physically big but do sound absolutely huge. Downsides are they can be a little bright even with treble all the way down (to my taste, I do like warmth) and bass so strong it can draw attention to itself. Bass extention on paper is not super deep (No real output below 30 Hz) but they give the experience of being full range which is interesting. I wish the input light on the front could be dimmed without ducttape. Highly recommend if you have a room big enough and if a 2.0 setup is enough this is also the home theater speaker to get.
RustOnTime , could you please measure and tell me the width of the speaker? I suspect that on the Edifier Argentina website they have the width and depth data backwards. I want to know if they will fit in a desk. Thanks a lot
@@RustOnTime ,Thanks for measuring it! Saludos.

The mids on the yamaha are incredible. They are on another league from the edifiers. Still, the edifiers cost like 1/4 of the yamaha so it's not really a fair comparison. I think the edifiers must sound amazing irl, but maybe the yamahas are better for professional use. I mean they are so simmilar to the source!
I beg to differ. The mids are clearer on the Edifier and muddier on the Yamaha. The lows are better on the Yamaha but unfortunately, they stand sort of alone compared to the Edifier because the mids help it put out a richer more encompassing sound. Overall I think the Yamaha's are too flat for my taste, made more for mixing and sound editing, while the Edifiers are what you would normally use to enjoy music.

Frankly, in terms of sound quality, they're not too different and one can be happy with either. The R2850 seems to have slightly more sparkle at the cost of slightly less sub bass compared to the HS8, but overall, both deliver clear and pretty accurate sound. Both would need really good subs (i.e. clean and powerful output to at least just below 20Hz) with excellent lowpass filters to properly fill out the sub bass they lack. Both would do great with PEQ without very aggressive, potentially problematic settings.

Very interesting. As an R2750DB owner, i was hoping the R2850DB would have extra oomph below 40Hz, but the graph does'nt reveal this. How do they compare in person? Does the bass adjuster bloat the 65Hz+ region up too high? Or does it nicley increase the 40Hz and below with out becoming too muddy?
