    Very well done video, thank you for all the effort. Of course it’s an impossible task to reproduce being in the room but the inclusion of the original source is very useful. The most important thing I picked up is that the Adams seem a bit excited in the top end compared to the Yamaha and the reference track.

      It's so wierd how we all hear differantly as I am of the total opposite opinion and hear the Yamahas as being a bit too much in the high end compared to the Adams! Mby it's something to do with my ears being fried from 90's raves and the stupid loud atmosphere hiss in some of them old tracks lol, mby my ears can't handle dome tweaters anymore 🤣. Tbf tho, I do actually hear quite high up the frequency spectrum for my age.

Ironically, my mixes end up sounding even better in my car after mixing through them. Yamaha's don't translate as well but they sound amazing in the studio. When you introduced the reference track first everything sounds fine on my HS80M speakers but when you switch from the ADAMS to the HS8's I heard and unusual phase shift to the right. Are the settings on each HS8 the same or one of the speakers has a volume output problem. I know the HS8's have a little more bottom than the ADAMS but the phase correlation should be the same.

    The bass on the yamaha HS8 (which is back ported) is more present most likely due to the room and the fact it uses an 8" main vs the Adam's 7". The left leaning balance on the HS8 is also probably due to the back port interfacing with the room acoustics etc. Neither one came very close to the source tracks in this test but again is probably due to the test environment and the combined mics in the portable recorder used in the test. It is really difficult to decide on speakers based on youtube tests but the pro audio brick and mortor stores are becoming obsolete.

    Interestly, the Yamahas were able to offer enough low end to make the wubby bass part audible, which wasn't the case for the Adams. I'm sure that the Adam's sound better overall, but the Yamahas seem to have better bass extension.

      This is the reason i dont have a pair in front of me right now. I have the 1st gen m-audio bx8's till 2007 and one of them is a bit off, so i went to a store to listen to the Adams to upgrade to them. Everything sounded great except for those lows, it sounds like the graph shows in this video, everything is so nice until the 45hz drop that is huge. In tracks i ve listened i didnt feel the double bass bottom or if a kick was fighting with a 808 etc. Im going to listen the a5x with a sub and il see, cause a7x with sub are to expensive for me, i love everything else but i need to feel the low end and also have a lot of headroom as a bass player who uses them for recording and playing with my roommate who is a drummer (something i did with ease with my bx8)

    Sounds about right, my experience with the A7x's vs the avantone's is they actually sound pretty similar but the A7x have a broader range. HS8's far low end sounds exaggerated even though it has the same hole in the low mids that the adam's have. Curious lf these were all level matched.

    • @DaftFader
      @DaftFader ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dodgingrain3695 Yeah but if you don't want your low end to sound doggo cos you forced it too much from the cab design when the cone's aren't designed to get anywhere near it, then starting off with a larger driver puts you closer to the mark. Adam probably didn't want to compromise the sound by forcing a 7 inch to go lower than it can reasonably handle whist still having tight timings for bass phase relation reasons. The Adam A8X and the HS8's go lower for this exact reason, and would be a more fair test like vs like if you're going to compare low end reach. There's a reason good quality smaller speakers roll off the low end, even though they could make them go lower with cab design.

The A7X were close but were just missing it a little. I agree however; the mid and highs are slightly clearer with the A7X. When you look at cost though, how can you go wrong with HS8 if money is tight. Great video.

    Ive got a pair of Adam A77X (the horizontal 3 way monitor) and the HS8's, and although the A77X's are certainly clearer and overall 'better', in no way are the HS8's humiliated which is a testament to how much they punch above their weight. They do become a bit fatiguing after a while whereas the Adams do not, but it's nice to switch to the HS8's as a quick reference before returning to the A77X's.
    The A77X do not require the addition of a sub (cant speak for the A7X). Many here have reported a superior HS8 bass extension on the video. In person this is not the case imho and has more to do with wall proximity (HS8's are rear ported) and the listeners environment.

    This will kinda solve the weird peaky 35-60hz bump that the Yamahas have. And possibly increase the clarity because all they would have to handle is 80-100hz and above then the sub will take care of the rest

Knowing that charts and real life use may differ, but would not call Yamaha's HS 8 "smiley" - they have just extended low end, and upfront high end. They actually translate very well if placed in proper room with acoustic treatment and positioning. Some even call them "sterile". I would call some KRK's hyped, but definitely not HS8.
