  • Hip-preserving surgery, instead of hip replacement, is an option for young adults. Wudbhav N. Sankar, an orthopedic surgeon at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and one of his patients discuss the benefits in this video. www.chop.edu/hippres
Young adults with hip defects or injuries who go to some adult centers for this problem may be misdiagnosed or told they are too young for a total hip replacement, rather than being offered other options to address their pain/mobility issues.
The Young Adult Hip Preservation Program at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is the largest and most comprehensive program in the region and one of the few places in the country to offer treatment options for adolescents and young adults with hip pain stemming from pediatric hip conditions such as femoroacetabular impingement and acetabular dysplasia (hip dysplasia). Each year, we examine hundreds of teens and young adults with congenital, developmental and post-traumatic hip disorders. Some require periacetabular osteotomy or other complex, specialized surgeries - only available at CHOP and select facilities across the country - to preserve, adjust or restore their natural hip function.
    Visit chop.edu/hippres for more information.

Dr. Sankar is world class. By far the best doctor/surgeon I've dealt with. He did 2 femoral derotational osteotomy which was like 10-11 months of crutches but he's the man! Don't go anywhere else in Philly!

When I was a junior in high school I started having hip pain in both hips went to the doctor and they said they couldn't do anything for my hips because I was too young the only way they will do something is if I turn 50 or end up not being able to walk I'm now 26 years old and this is something I would definitely and I'm just like this girl in the video I have a hard time walking I struggle getting up 6 steps so this is something I definitely would like to look into

I think I have this..suffering from groin pain along time .had two hernia repairs that did nothing.I get most my pain in summer ( weird) but I've always walked with a limp and sometimes with pain it's hard to walk at all...or sit or anything.its torture I just want to be out with my kids being active .instead I'm usually catering to this pain. living in canada.lol free isn't always best I guess.
