All those saying its overpriced, go put together an equivalent decent quality ITX system with a 750ti (which this is equivalent to), windows and a 360 controller for less than 550. You can't do it. Give Alienware credit when its due, most of their stuff is ridiculously overpriced but this is actually good value for what it is, a good quality SFF PC for gaming.
check this out pcpartpicker.com/user/Fgtfv567/saved/VhxRsY G3258, R7 260X (750 Ti equivalent), windows 8, twice the ram and storage of the base alpha model! all for 557 dollars if you fill in all the mail-in rebates. if you have a 360 controller already, plug it in or buy the wireless adapter Edit: Build has been adapted into a ITX build using a CM elite 110 for a super small rig
Gerank Fok where do I even start, that's a full size atx mid tower! How on earth is that comparable? not exactly tv unit friendly, ugly as hell and no front USB either. Swift has picked. a better motherboard but it still has no USB 3.0, does it have WiFi and Bluetooth? Not in the specs, so that needs adding. The parts used use way more power and produce way more heat so therefore more noise. Adding a controller takes it to 550 and I still have to build it and don't get free games. Is delivery free? You can't build an Objectively better system for less than the base, it is good value, I've always built PC's but I'll admit I can't build better for less money. This is not overpriced if you are being in any way objective. Who wants to save 30-40 dollars on a living room PC that is massive, looks like crap, has no free games, uses more power, has no controller and is noisier? That's not better.
Well you don't have to follow my exact build, this was just something I had lying around my account! Just change a few parts like the case and mobo! If you want WiFi, you can find a cheap adapter somewhere.. If you have a controller somewhere plug it in and use it. And what do you mean no free games?! Steam is littered with free games like TF2, PLANETSIDE, Gotham city imposters, and way more!
I remember before they got bought out there products had a lot of DOA issues. You can build a CHEAPER system with a Razer Z1 case. Might wanna learn about this stuff before you claim more money means a better system. A LOT of small cases can hold FULL SIZED graphics cards on RISERs to make a PC as big as your Cable Box.
goff0103 Check NCIX or Linus Tech Tips, lots of SMALL PC cases can hold FULL SIZED graphics cards and use up to a Core i7 chip or go the AMD route. Much better looking system and some have LCD screens for a JPEG image so you can make it look like anything you want, even a Hackintosh. The case can be Vertical or Horizontal and the LCD screen you just switch the orientation of the JPEG image depending on how you put it on your media stand. It is also nearly the same size as a cable DVR box.
Just get a Micro ATX/ITX case which uses full sized graphics cards. People have no idea what these are, its basically what PS4 and Xbox One is using. Check NCIX or Linus Tech Tips. Razer Z1 is a good case, same size as a Cable DVR and you can use a FULL SIZED graphics card and load Windows 8.1 or whatever you want on it. Some are even water cooled.
There are a lot of 7L pc cases starting to come out soon around the size of the Xbox One with fully customizable pc parts yu can use. Check out dondan a4, saperpl, next Ncase (all can be found in hardforum SFF section). Also per orders for Ncase M1 v3 are up on the ncase a website
Releasing at $550 is a disadvantage. Especially since people already have a Xbox One or Ps4 and a PC at home they already invested in that can compete with the entry level version of this unit. Why shell out the additional $550?
What!? U cant swap GPU ? What about CPU? If you can pop out the i3 for a i7... Maybe someone can save a couple bucks while increasing performance. Even excersing that option will be pricey.
I have a core i3, a gtx 750 ti and 8 gigs of ram, I play on ultra at 720p or medium at 1080p and it cost $500. But this could have been better than at least my pc
It's a shitty prebuilt with 4gb of ram, a shitty dual core and a laptop gpu lol. I can make a pc for 600 with a 6350, 8gb ram and a 270x or a 800 dollar build with a 4670k and a 970.
You can get a better case too which holds FULL SIZED graphics cards some even with water cooling like the Razer Z1 line of cases. Check NCIX and Linus Tech Tips for videos on great Micro ATX/Mini ITX cases which hold full sized cards and use motherboards up to Core i7 or any high end AMD setup you want.
I feel like the alfa is the poor hybrid child that no one accepts, until it proves itself with stronger specs wich is unlikely,it most likely will surpass consoles but not any fully blown pc ever
Once you have bought this you can't upgrade the GPU so once that GPU is done it's useless, the only thing good about this is the portability whoopy doo. It's a trend that will die quickly. Just build/buy a better pc that can be upgraded for years and download steam app, so what this can connect to a tv so can a pc.
Sorry, I'd rather stick with my WiiU, DS, PS4, PS3, Vita, PSP, Xbox One and the 360.. In 2 years this Alienware box will be out of date and I'd need to upgrade it since the box is still a PC at heart.. i do have a PC, but i do not use it for gaming... I have dedicated machines for that .. Nice try but no thank you!..
Consoles are inferior to PC for gaming... the handful of exclusives on each console are good but overall you get much more with a PC. PC is the main platform, the dedicated gaming device. Consoles are budget PCs and halfassed media devices.
Spaace Bonobo Adding in an addition fee for multiplayer for a game you already paid for its incredibly messed up. I dont understand why console gamers stand for it.
Save yourself money build your own system using a Razer Z1 case and other SMALL PC cases which hold FULL SIZED graphics cards and even Water Cooling features. You are paying for the name.
Because they got bought out for the "Name", way back in the 1990s it was teenagers selling hardware that had a lot of DOA issues. They got rich making people think paying more was better when they were just making themselves rich. I bought hardware from Computer Shopper dirt cheap and built my own PCs back then.
Those people defending the Alpha, saying it's not overpriced... pcpartpicker.com/p/m7ycmG Yes you can build one much better for lower the cost, and that is upgradable.
Microsoft and Sony subsidise their hardware and take a loss, Dell only makes money on hardware, its good value and unfortunately won't drop to that price range for a while, if ever...
MuthaBuffer Dell has issues with design and reliability. Our Dell All in One Inspiron 2305 had a CRAP Chinese Hard Drive cable. Replaced it, no more Blue Screens of Death or "Cant find BOOT DRIVE" errors. Also with the back case still on it has HEAT issues with the graphics card. Take the back off and NO MORE HEAT ISSUES. Dell is kind of like Samsung, they used to sell decent hardware but now your just paying for a name. Michael Dell wanted his company back before it went bankrupt.
There is no way Sony and MS aren't subsidising the massive price drops these consoles have had since launch, please point me to a source that says otherwise.
Yep, it costs 381 dollars to manufacture, 399 to buy. That's a loss. A company will say look we are making profit on these systems, because technically they are, but that 381 doesn't include development costs, advertising, distribution, retailer cut, RMA costs, customer service, technical support etc. etc.
Word up..... my Dayz is dropping frames on this rig i have now.. its out of date. but was running pretty good. I have a quad core still. on a LGA775 slot which I series of CPU's dont support
Kieran Waugh It's likely coming to Xbox One too (which is what I use), but it'll probably be over a year before that happens. It won't be out until they finish the PC version, and that's still in Alpha.
Once you get a good PC. You won't only be playing those games. The world of pc will open up for you. You'll find yourself playing games every day and never finding yourself bored.
Brace yourselves, the DIY PC fans hate comments are coming...and I have the right image for you PCliebers hahaha ---> www.tickld.com/cdn_image_content/93672.jpg
Yeah especially when we can build the same system with a FULL SIZED graphics card for the SAME PRICE with BETTER hardware, water cooling and the whole shiznit. You obviously know nothing about Micro ATX/ITX PC cases. Go watch NCIX or Linus Tech Tips to learn about things you can buy and BUILD on your own without being an obvious FAN BOY. Mommy and Daddy buy your hardware anyway so stop trolling.
TekReview's No buddy, obviously you can build a better rig genius, but you can't have a monster performance for the same price (you know, biggest production makes lower prices) try to build a mini itx system with the same specs for the same price, it's really hard to match the prices. Oh, and Linus is not the best modder/DIY builder, he build great things but you need to see more channels kid.
maclovio hudson pcpartpicker.com/p/2DTWP6 This is cheaper (more than enough for controller + official M$ controller wireless hub). This is better for same price(now with wifi): pcpartpicker.com/p/gghM6h You need to add Xbox controller($35~) and bluetooth dongle($2-5) manually since somehow pcpartpicker does not have them listed.

Really great price. Especially for Alienware.
super cool to see Alien Ware doing this console/computer.
if you think about it, all systems are different forms of computers. They both have ram, cpu's, gpu's etc...
In my opinion it's cool but it should've include a cd slot where u can play original pc games which would've made it better.
no thanks! im good with my PS4
If that works fine for you, great! On the PC side, this thing is a joke.
goff0103
I can build my own rig for $600 that will wipe its posterior with the Alpha's top model.
goff0103 Check NCIX or Linus Tech Tips, lots of SMALL PC cases can hold FULL SIZED graphics cards and use up to a Core i7 chip or go the AMD route. New American Fishkeeper Hey give me some specs in that range. curious about that. Need something up to date right now.
lol noob. haha
super cool to see Alien Ware doing this console/computer. I wish I could legally put a full copy of windows OS on my Xbox 360 slim.

No problem, keep it hip, build your own box and all the girls will love you, haha.
best alienware mashine i've seen since now

Can i use a monitor
So if I buy this will I just be able to hook it up to my tv and then start playing?
can I use desktop mode and play physical games (disc) using the alienware alpha specs ?

isaboll1 YEAH
The audio is quite quiet
can u stream the alpha with obs
What's the price final for this alien ware??

***** no one you guys stay crying on new egg.. you stay overclocking out the box lol
just waiting for someone to extract the alpha ui so I can use it for my PC

They just don't know anything else so they think it's normal I suppose.
i think this is for Dell's enthusiast user
Board Game Master Race!
Or if you have a proper gaming PC, just use gamestream.
Save yourself money build your own system using a Razer Z1 case and other SMALL PC cases which hold FULL SIZED graphics cards and even Water Cooling features. You are paying for the name.
I agree with this
Can i play minecraft on that?
I've got a feeling that people are playing too much with word: "Optimised" .
wow gaming on PC still exists? how is alienware not bankrupted yet?
PC gaming is a MAJOR market and to think otherwise is nothing short of retarded
Because they got bought out for the "Name", way back in the 1990s it was teenagers selling hardware that had a lot of DOA issues. They got rich making people think paying more was better when they were just making themselves rich. I bought hardware from Computer Shopper dirt cheap and built my own PCs back then.
far cry 4 i thought it didnt run in a dual core r u bs us to buy thid
Rather buy a console, this would be only useful for people that travel every so often or a lot. If I had money to burn I'd probably get one.
Not really difficult to be "as good or better" than a console... I could plug an HDMI into a potato and my monitor and play at console settings o___o
What game was featured at 1:20?
It looks like Far Cry 4.
Far Cry 4
Too xpensive dude...
Not even close to being a good value, buy a console instead.
I'd rather neck. I'll stick with my superior desktop.
OR, just get a long HDMI cable going from your pc to your television and save $500 bucks... DUH !!!!
Those people defending the Alpha, saying it's not overpriced...

He said i 3
Not going to buy it
How much would it be in England
AlienWare price this at £449. If however you plan on buying it I would recommend just building one. Its cheaper.
449 for the base, you won't get better for cheaper, no matter what people say. But the more expensive upgraded versions aren't really worth it though.
MuthaBuffer Not true, you could build an amd build that is cheaper and better
MuthaBuffer If you go for intel or nvidia it might be same price or a bit more expensive
not worth the money for a dual core i5
I rather buy ps4 or xbox one that have better specs.
I only want a PC to play Arma 3 and DayZ, but not sure those games are worth the money for decent PC. Not even sure this could handle those games.
Word up..... my Dayz is dropping frames on this rig i have now.. its out of date. but was running pretty good. I have a quad core still. on a LGA775 slot which I series of CPU's dont support
