So glad you guys are doing this. I've wanted Alienware for many years and this is the way for me to get in. Also, this is perfect for fathers that don't have much $ or time and still want to play great pc games in the living room. I have been wishing someone would come out with this for a long time, thank you Alienware!!
I've been taking this console to alot of my friends houses and they are in love, I've practically been taken sales from ps4 and x1 yall really should hire me for advertising because no one knows what this is every time I bring it somewhere people are dumbfounded lol Alienware Alpha is a nice gaming console really
From what I gather its a desktop / console hybrid its a good combination. The thing is horse power and upload. Its going to take alot out of this system to play a game and encode it at the same time then have another system uploading or you could use xsplit or whatever. Point being Can you... Probably yes. Quality probably not 1080p maybe 720p? Its a good question remember even if you could live stream 1080p you have to have an upload of atleast 6mps or higher preferably 10. Most isp don't do this because people will run there own server and they don't want that so... Can probably do you want to really up to you.
Alienware My Question is Is it a PC !? A PC !? What I mean by PC is that does it work like any other PC Windows ? and stuff is there like google and things or is it just like that a console
1) How does the graphics compare to the Geforce 750 ti (better or worse)? 2) Can I use any T-based Haswell processor in the upgrade. Specifically the i7-4790T (which is 45w instead of 35w)? What about TE based processors? 3) Can I use CL9 memory as an upgrade? 4) Does a USB restore stick come with the system? If I upgrade to an SSD, what is the process to restore the system? 5) Can you elaborate on PS4 controller use? Do I need to install my own driver or does the DualShock4 work out-of-the box?
This is really interesting especially to a console gamer like myself, only questions would be 1. can we play with other players who are using a regular PC set up with steam? 2. How many games will be available through steam on this console? The entire library or a select few?
***** Hi there, to answer your questions: 1. Yes, you can play against/along the whole Steam network or any PC gamers. 2. You can pick any game from the Steam library + any game available for PC.
I have three questions about the Alienware Alpha, since I might consider getting it, in December. 1: Will I be able to get DLC? Will I be able to use a pre-paid gift card? 2: Is it an download-only console? 3: Will I be able to play PS4 and Xbox 360 games that haven't had a PC release?
Zee Gee 1. Yes. DLC content is available. You can use Dell giftcards to purchase it. 2. Download or you can use the USB ports to install your favorite games. 3, PS4 and Xbox games will not play on the Alpha as it is a PC gaming console, however keep in mind that there is a large selection of games to choose from.
If I we can still customize the parts, or just not worry about gaming quality dropping over time due to expectations of newer games (every game for PC better work, no hardware specs), then I'm HAPPY!!!
Really interesting, I've been waiting to see a mainstream steam machine for the masses to come out. Whilst it's not very powerful at all for a dedicated gaming PC, the gaming experience will be comparable to Xbox One and PS4 for single screen gaming. I know this because I built a small form factor PC to replace my old hosting machine early this year and for the occasional LAN game when guests come over. It was using a KFA2 750TI OC (low form factor), operates with 7200rpm Hybrid laptop drives a micro ATX mobo, 8GB ddr3 Ripjaw, micro low power PSU and a 3ghz Xeon. I already thought when I built this that it is on par with and in some cases better than the current gen of consoles. That build will run Battlefield 4 on ultra smoothly at 40+ fps @ 1080, and I can not tell the difference whatsoever between that and my PS4. Titanfall and other games are no problem for it all on high details and a reasonable level of post processing. I think the end of traditional gaming consoles (other than niche ones such as the WII) is coming to be honest, they have already had to move towards PC architecture to update from the last gen, and even then they were only low spec gaming PC's. PC gaming industry realizes that in order to appeal to console owners they need a simple and compact 'plug and play' solution that just works and this is a good step towards that direction. PS and Xbox brands, can not keep up, it would be logistically impossible and unfeasible to invest in new platforms every few years, what they should have done is make the Xbox and PS modular so it could be upgraded but now it already has the performance of aged or budget PC hardware. Given the last generation of playstation and xbox consoles ended up being in service for 8 years, there is absolutely no way on earth that with their struggling hardware now they will be able to compete with smaller gaming PC's like this in even 12-18 months time. If these small machines are modular and upgradeable (if they make the GPU interchangeable they will be on to a winner), couple that with ease of use with big picture or their own interface and the added functions of a full blown PC underneath if needed it will just blow consoles away. Also with the fast moving PC architecture market, machines like this one now, instead of having say an OC 750ti in, it could possibly have something closer to a 780 within a year, and all at the same price as the current gen consoles - it's a no brainier. I can't see one replacing my main rig anytime soon, but for a single screen one stop shop gaming and PC solution I think it is the future.
have you ever considered making higher end custom gps for people who want to upgrade i think that would make the console even better and prevent complaints of it's gpu.
I do agree with the Wireless concept for the xbox 360 controller, but the problem with that is some games on steam don't play well with a controller less it's an official non 3rd party wired 360 controller.
If you want a small customizable pc case, check out saperpl or dondan a4 on hardforum. Also controllers work on pc as long as there are drivers for the os n are compatible which whatever pc games you play.
See, now this is what we need. Its not just this console though, its the idea in general. The ability to have a customizable small form factor machine, capable of impressive performance, with the openness that PC gaming represents. Damn the bad reviews so far, this idea has the potential to revolutionize the way console gaming evolves in the future.
Most of the games I'm seeing on Steam require at least AI 7 recommended your lowest setting is an iPhone 3 I wanted to get the i5 model but I'm not seeing any games that are recommended most games are recommended for at least an i7 so I like to play my games at their maximum settings I would want to know if it would be okay to just purchase the middle system to play games out of the box so they still look good I would be replacing my xbox one for this and want to make sure that I'm making a good decision
I have a few questions that I like answered before I buy, I 've just recently got a Steam account to of course play PC games so I don't know a lot about Steam or Alienware. So here are the questions and thank you so much for your help: 1: In this video it's stated that you can transfer your steam account and the games you have already purchased to the Alienware Alpha. Correct? Then after I transferred them, do I still need my steam account on my laptop? Or can I delete steam on my laptop and have it on Alienware Alpha instead ? 2: Could I record my gameplay while playing on Alienware Alpha using for example FRAPS? And if I can use FRAPS, would I have to be in desktop mode to use it? 3: Is it available in the UK ? And if so, how much is it? Thank you for your help again, I don't know much about Alienware or Steam so the answers to my questions could be obvious xD
Myidentity-Games 1. Your steam account follows you to any machine. You simply log in and then download the games. You can keep it on any PC. 2. Yes. To record with FRAPS you will need to be in Desktop mode. 3. Will be launching in the UK soon. Keep an eye on the site.
Ahh helpful! Thank you so much! So I don't need to have steam on my laptop to play steam on the Alienware Alpha after I've transferred it, I can delete steam from my laptop, correct? HURRY with the realise! Hahah. This sounds great! Thank you so much! This solves a lot of my problems, especially with the next gen consoles. BIG THANKS!
Can you power this on and off using the Xbox 360 controller included? Also, is the hdmi input on the back connected to a video capture device or is it just for switching inputs?
I'm really thinking of buying this product, but I have a few questions. 1. If I was to play a multiplayer Steam game with my friends but they were on a PC and I was on the Alpha, would there be any difference, or will it act just like I'm on PC too? 2. Are the games limited to Steam? Could I play like a flash game on a website, or Minecraft, or will I be limited to the Steam library of games? 3. Can still use mods for a game? I've always played on consoles, and modding is something I've never been able to do. 4. How exactly will Desktop Mode work? Will it act just like a PC desktop? Sorry for the questions, I've never had a gaming PC because I've always played on consoles, but with what seems to be both products in one, along with a low price tag, it's just something I can't just pass up. Replies are greatly appreciated.
toonhead904 1. Normal PC 2. You can play any PC game, including Steam. 3. Yes you can do so. 4. Correct, just plug a mouse and select desktop mode.Thank you, glad we can help
I just got my Alpha yesterday and it is pretty nice. The only thing I have not figured out yet is how to get my PS3 to use the HDMI in (passthrough) to display on the tv. Any suggestions?
I'm interested in buying this product but I have a few questions? Can I use it as a normal computer, I want a gaming PC but still need it for college work? And how well can games be played, what settings (high, ultra) and what FPS would I be able to achieve? Any feedback would be much appreciated
Quick Question Would I Be Able To Record And Hook Up My El Gato To The Alien Ware Alpha Taking Note I Have Other pc Running Elgato Program Ready To Start Recording.
could you use an graphics amplifire on the alpa? If you play with friend, could one use xbox 360 contoller and the other one use keyboard and mouse in co-op games?
I'm currently an Xbox One and 360 owner, and was looking to upgrade to a gaming PC. This allows you to use steam completely? Download all steam games, play DOTA 2 and Access to all games on steam?
Question: I have always been a fan of you guys. If I want to use a Headset would I have to get wireless and second if I want to get a custom lid what would be the process. Love this product thank you
+Mr. Furriki We don't have custom lids except on occasional promotions. You'd need to use a Wireless or USB one. There's also the possibility of using an USB sound card.
+Alienware thank you so much for the info ! I love the product you will have a customer for many years ! If you guys do custom lids in the future that would be amazing ! Thanks
Would i have to use an ethernet cable to connect to the internet? Also is there a 3.5mm jack for earbud or would i have to get a usb to 3.5mm jack to use earbuds?
Big Ace Not unless you want to. The Alienware Alpha comes with both wired and wireless capabilities. As far as connecting headphones or an earbud. You would need to use USB 2.0 or 3.0 compatible.
I think this is a very affordable way to get into PC gaming. If the graphics are as good a s current gen (I'm sure they are), I think that's enough for a lot of console owners.
Will I have to buy a desk top or could I hook it up to my tv like an Xbox. And does it come with built in Wi-Fi or do I have to connect it to directly to my internet router. I'm not a PC gamer. But this looks like a better deal then any current gen console.
sgtdockery Yes. There are 2 modes which you can switch between. Console mode for Controller games and Desktop mode, which gives you a full PC to work with.
I have a question. My question for you is that I would like to know if I can still play with my Logitech g27 steering wheel on the Alienware Alpha console as I would do on a common pc? THANKS
I followed these steps to upgrade to a SSD, I backed up on a USB drive, but when I try to load the disc image it says "your hard drive size is not supported for this process" and says I need a drive with at least 980gb. I have a 256gb SSD that I am trying to upgrade to. Please help. I am stuck in an endless loop now.
If this alpha can run cs go on 100fps+ and has mic and audio jack input ik def. purchase this. Good price for a half pc/half console product. Very nice
EnerGRules Alienware Alpha - Counter Strike Global Offensive Gameplay Has UBS ports and Digital Audio. You can get a converter or a USB headset and should be set.
Nice vision, for the future. GPU tech isn't there yet, and this machine (not unlike EVERY other console in the market) is seriously underpowered. Thanks, but I will stick with my Alienware 17 with the GTX 970M for now.
Can anyone please answer this question. I just purchased the i3 version and bought a 8gig stick to upgrade its ram. It is the right specs ddr3l 1600mhz 1.35v. My question is can I leave one of the 2gig sticks and add the 8 gig to bring to to 10 gigs of ram?
Two questions: 1) Will this be available in electronic stores in Canada (e.g. Future Shop, Staples, London Drugs, etc.)? 2) If it is available in electronic stores, will it still come with an Xbox 360 controller?
Will there be options in the future to increase the RAM size? I can't see 8gb being enough if you want to run very graphically demanding game in the next few years
The issue I have with PCs in general is the fact that not all PC games have full controller support. Take for example BF4, they were really lazy in supporting console controllers in their PC games. Not only the console controller icons are turned off, but you can't navigate the menus without needing a keyboard and mouse, and the no aim assist makes it dang near impossible to do good in multiplayer with a console controller vs keyboard and mouse. On top of that PCs are a pain in the but to configure everything and a lot of times you get choppy results. These are my main two concerns, otherwise this looks decent.
So did I just watch alienware interview themself?
So glad you guys are doing this. I've wanted Alienware for many years and this is the way for me to get in. Black console on a black background (the desk) , what a poor choice for a walkthrough video...
Sir you had my interest, now you have my attention.
That looks pretty damn great.
I'm really excited for this, especially since I'm new to PC gaming!
Why include the 360 controller when PS4 is far superior ?
Because the next gen controllers don't have wireless support yet.
Playstation controllers are whack af that's why.
Alienware was merged with Microsoft I think
Because they hate PS4 fan boys.
I won't be able to order one until November 1st. But I will be ordering one there is no doubt. Its got me ridiculously excited.
Might get it for Christmas!!!
Can't wait to get this and download tons of games on torrents this will save me a ton of money if I was on a console
Thanks for all the info Alienware
Got the alpha at walmart yesterday. had problem running the some games, system would lock up, returned it today.
I'm definitely buying this
I am so glad the wireless controller is now supported.
I've been taking this console to alot of my friends houses and they are in love, I've practically been taken sales from ps4 and x1 yall really should hire me for advertising because no one knows what this is every time I bring it somewhere people are dumbfounded lol Alienware Alpha is a nice gaming console really

Wow, basically yeah. As long as you have a good internet connection you can put that GPU to work

Can you switch between desktop and console mode?
Yea all you need to do is go to the settings in the console UI and press "go to desktop"

I have a question: How can I play disk games on this, because there is no disk tray?
Very excited, getting mine tomorrow. I have never had a pc, only a crappy laptop. Can you play games with a keyboard and mouse?
Yes
I need to know more about the bag.
Can you use an adapter to connect it to a moniter with only a VGA input. Also if you have a USB to 3.5mm jack can you use a 3.5mm headset?
Can you use a turtle beach XL1 headset on the Alienware alpa or other turtle beach headsets
Ethan Morris Have not tested it. If it works on Windows and has a USB port, should work fine.
Thx
Really would like a graphics amplifier for this thing (I know you got a request for this before).

Will this thing work with a PS3 controller? I use a ps3 controller on my pc with the DS3 Tool. Works great! Can this do the same?
DerkuiDerkui Yeah, you would need to install the tool to run on Windows and you are set.
Alienware
Awesome! Thanks!
Good to now u can change into desktop mode and play games like minecraft or Roblox right?
Desktop mode follows the rules of any other pc, so yes
Alienware, will you be offering a VESA mount adapter? would be super handy to just mount it to the rear of your TV.

Alienware
Awesome. Thanks for the reply.
Can you use the Occulus Rift with the Alienware Alpha?
does it have display port for 4K like the syber?
I'm probably buying it if split screen multiplayer is available. Then I'd consider this as a console replacement device.
Mr11880099 Depends on the game. If it is supported in the game, then it will work.
Does this have a built in dvd port ?
I just got my Alpha yesterday and it is pretty nice.
The only thing I have not figured out yet is how to get my PS3 to use the HDMI in (passthrough) to display on the tv.

Thank you for answering my question and could you do a gameplay video on Dayz standalone and maybe the mod version?
Blink gamer It is on our list.
what GPU options you guys provide? and are they mobile type GPU's?
example GTX 780M
is the voltage universal ? Is it good for travelling around differet countries?
I want to use this a PC and a console as well.
Hello, I really like this console, but I have one question: I have skyrim on a disk, but how can I play it on here?
Cant
Quick Question Would I Be Able To Record And Hook Up My El Gato To The Alien Ware Alpha Taking Note I Have Other pc Running Elgato Program Ready To Start Recording.
TooChaotic You can always access desktop mode and use it as a regular computer.
Does it come with a controller?
Grey Johnson Yes a 360 Wireless controller.
could you use an graphics amplifire on the alpa? If you play with friend, could one use xbox 360 contoller and the other one use keyboard and mouse in co-op games?
Carlos Yousef Yeah, you can mix up keyb+controllers as long as the game allows you to. The graphics amplifier is not compatible with Alpha.
I'm currently an Xbox One and 360 owner, and was looking to upgrade to a gaming PC. This allows you to use steam completely? Download all steam games, play DOTA 2 and Access to all games on steam?
If I was to buy the Alienware Alpha, using the desktop mode could I purchase games off Origin e.g. Battlefield and Fifa? Thanks!
If I wish to play a flight slim, can I use a flight stick and/or rudder pedals? I'm fine with keyboard and mouse but I also like the realism.
TheGamingPuppy I think you have enough USB ports to use the flight stick plus mouse and keyboard.
Honestly I would enjoy having a console for some games which I can play with my friends who come over and how do you do that on a pc ?
Can the highest configuration play future games at ultra?? In 1080p and 60 fps?
Can the alienware amplifier work on this
Could you play games without controller support with the controller using the Alpha console?
How many 360 Controllers can I connect to the dongle at once, or is it just for one controller?
can you hook it up to a monitor? or only tv?
Will it be available in Australia, if so were can I get it and will it come out at the same time as US and Europe?

+Mr. Furriki No problem!
Do you have to pay for online like ps4 and Xbox one did?
JPJ Gaming No, using Steam or Alpha is completely free. Some games have to be purchased but some others are free to play.
Alienware Alright. Thanks for the quick reply :)
Ah ok just wanted to know about the vsync that answers my question Thank You Alienware

Will the vibrate function work if you plug in a ps4 controller
Can base version run Tropico 5 with ultra settings?
can you hook the alienware alpha to the laptop alienware 14
Will I have to buy a desk top or could I hook it up to my tv like an Xbox. And does it come with built in Wi-Fi or do I have to connect it to directly to my internet router. I'm not a PC gamer. But this looks like a better deal then any current gen console.
Robert Rivas You can connect it directly to a TV, it has wireless LAN and Bluetooth. Plus, you get to use it as a PC or entertainment center.
you can use it just like a desktop computer ex use internet and download programs it's basically a mini gaming computer with console features
sgtdockery Yes. There are 2 modes which you can switch between. Console mode for Controller games and Desktop mode, which gives you a full PC to work with.
Man this is better than the Xbox one and ps4
will it come to Australia?
I have a question. My question for you is that I would like to know if I can still play with my Logitech g27 steering wheel on the Alienware Alpha console as I would do on a common pc? THANKS
Dubyos Step Yes. Will work.
Please view the counter strike source performance video that was created. Thanks
Nice vision, for the future. GPU tech isn't there yet, and this machine (not unlike EVERY other console in the market) is seriously underpowered. Thanks, but I will stick with my Alienware 17 with the GTX 970M for now.
What extra software do u need to use a Dualshock 3 or 4 controller on the alpha?
AC - DC - RACK Google can help you better with that, but it should a very simple program.
Hey Alienware just wondering if this comes with a built in microphone. I'm going to purchase regardless
Jaysofresh15 Unfortunately, no built in mic. We have been using USB headsets to record voice.
Where do you get games
Will the alpha still have desktop capabilities after the official steamOS release?
Can Capture cards and hd PVRs work on this? like the Elgato
Minor Senpai They use HDMI so I believe they should work.
2) If it is available in electronic stores, will it still come with an Xbox 360 controller?
can you leave a link on the exact i7 processer you need to up upgrade this system?

Amazing console!
Will there be options in the future to increase the RAM size? I can't see 8gb being enough if you want to run very graphically demanding game in the next few years
I have an alpha and it doesnt have any headphone jacks but if i use like a usb headset adapter can i use like a logitech g230
+jason agonoy Yea probably
The issue I have with PCs in general is the fact that not all PC games have full controller support. Take for example BF4, they were really lazy in supporting console controllers in their PC games. Not only the console controller icons are turned off, but you can't navigate the menus without needing a keyboard and mouse, and the no aim assist makes it dang near impossible to do good in multiplayer with a console controller vs keyboard and mouse. On top of that PCs are a pain in the but to configure everything and a lot of times you get choppy results. These are my main two concerns, otherwise this looks decent.
Can I run Windows 10 on an Alpha (i-7) in order to play Quantum Break on 4/5/2016?
Finally someone comes up with a pc console. It's a little pricey but I can understand why
Is there a camera/ and or microphone?
will fernau Not on the system itself, but you can get a wireless or USB headset.
