I’ll never forget one game I had a parrot that gave me an unlimited hull. I had gathered SO much treasure - one player at the table said ‘you better bury your treasure! You’re an easy target!’ So I did pick the island to bury. The same player also picked that island and had the card to steal half my treasure - which I had no clue that card existed. That’s the only time I nearly table flipped a game haha. I was soooo stinkin angry - smoke outta my ears. But! I really really enjoyed this game - after two weeks to process it 😆
Man, i loved this game since i played it at a convention, a friend of mine bought it then, but i could not resist and also bought it some time later. I still like to play it, it's not too difficult at all, some competition, some minor co-op, some randomness in cards and dice rolling, but still. Want no ability to damage other players ? Go play Ticket to Ride. Want some competition and damage other players but not super cutthroat stuff? You can play this.
Interesting I actually almost buyed this game a while a go but I watched a review that said that the game was actually longer than what I thought, maybe I need to check it out again!
Sounds cool! Finally got what this game was about... Still, of the 'out of print pirate games', Black Fleet looks like it would be my Go-To game :-) Even though I really like simultaneous selection games. Also, what would happen if pirates invaded Merchant's Cove? Is that the prequel to this game?
If you’re looking for a game similar to Black Fleet may I suggest either Tiny Epic Pirates or Merchants and Marauders? TEP is very similar and almost as light as Black Fleet while Merchants is quite a bit more detailed than the other two but also lots of fun.
Just tried this for the first time! It was... Not great. For every game we played there was a runaway loser problem. The first combat is almost completely luck based, and you can essentially be locked out of the rest of the game.
I can't recommend this game. The luck factor is extremely high, not only when it comes to combat, but also for wether you draw a parrot or not. I’ve had games where 1 player draws all parrots and discards most of them (you may only have one), while all other players are parrotless. Parrots are completely overpowered.
Would love to see a modern reprint of this game! Also, curious what Tom’s top 10 pirate games are now?
He did that video about a year ago. th-cam.com/video/sWn1NfQD11E/w-d-xo.html
Check out bgg. I've uploaded some new stuff of it :)

LOL! It is always fun when a gameplay creates memories like that, though. :-)
@@KabukiKid it’s the truth 😆😆☺️
Awesome! I'm finding lots of these games at bargin stores now. I found Captain Sonar selling for $11, it's not that old.
This needs a reprint, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

Love older games 🎉
I found this at thrift store for $5. It's basically complete and my kids really enjoy it

It needs a second edition to fix some issues
Looks and ounds like a good game.

This game has great components, but is really not very fun
