I don't mind you roughing RWBY up. I'd rather have honesty than faking positivity for views. I do miss your RWBY content, but you can make it on your own time.
Honestly just be more honest and critical of the show if you want to. Do whatever you want to do and don't let others dictate you (except this is kind of being hypocrite since I am suggesting you do something yet not.......). Anyways I always appreciate an honest review of a show.
That lost fable video sounds like a blast. Actaully, I personally don't mind if you turn RWBY into a punching bag. Like, not spiralling into the absolute negativity in the same way u were overly positive about it, but just ur honest thoughts on the show. Sounds fun
@@andrewrogers3067 True, but RWBY was pretty decent early on and had the potential to become greater. Even when it was at its lowest, there were some parts where the execution was decent or at least interesting. SAO was shitfest from the beginning. Good concept, great setting, terrible execution through and through. SAO Progressive is at least filling in those gaps and is pretty good. But fundamentally, the author does not know how to write game mechanics.
The best thing about RWBY these days are the fanfictions it has spawned. Seriously, innumerable fanfiction authors have told great stories in this world and with these characters.
The SLVR trailers are absolute baller. Probably gonna be another 2 years to we see them again but still absolutely awesome and nostalgic of the content Monty promised us early on.
The CRWBY team needs to realise that they clearly need to stop rushing when producing these volumes. Fans will still wait patiently and stick around for new episodes but that doesn't mean they should rush the animation and writing on a 2 week project...
A shame they just seem to repeat the same mistakes over again. I thought when gray got the boot, that production and planning of the show would be better managed, the addition of more writers lifted my hope for the series. And than vol 8 happen, and the seemingly same production method (finishing episodes the day they are aired) And since they came out that they just finished vol 8 on the day of the finale, my fear of vol 9 is going through the roof, thanks to the months long wait in the middle of the volume. After reading the expected release of vol 9, if we are being generous, they have at most 10 months to finish it, that includes writing, voicing, animating, the whole shebang and they handicap themselves by not allowing for a longer production cause they seem desperate to get it out
Way too late, at this point, it's just going to die regardless, wether ir be the shippers being put aside for making an actual story causing it to crumble from below, the fans that insist that THIS ISN'T TOXIC, YOU'RE JUST AN whatever fucking ism ic or ist they pull out from their ads that week finally causing the walls to collapse as everyone else leaves tired of roosterteeth pandering towards them, or maybe the roof collapsing because they loose even more actors tired of their shit, or hell, maybe it finally ends and is then left as now they have zero reason to go back and watch it. Regardless, it died the second the creator did, but these Frankenstein's are insisting on trying to force it to live, and failing because they missed the obvious fact the soul can't just be replaced by merchandise and sudden relationships and pandering, and I hope it gets out to rest soon.
@@shadowsnake5133 the shippers and the fans (like murderofbirds) will like whatever RT comes out with rwby related. I myself tried to turn off my brain watching it but find a lot of it difficult to process cause of the nonsense writing. There are just some who can watch it without thinking and be easily impressed with what they are getting For some, Penny's death the sequel was an emotional tear jerker, that makes them forget that she just got turned into a real girl. For some of us it was a face palm of how they are trying to emotionally manipulate people into forgetting that they dont know what proper set up is
You should make content that YOU want to make tbh. That’s what everyone followed ya for after all. Your charm, personality, video style etc. Whether it’s criticism or a funny kind, there’s no need to solely focus on that. Make what you’re wanting to and I’m sure your fans will appreciate what you bring to the table regardless
Rwby is like Grandpa's famous homemade pie, that was then sold to a corporation for mass production. What was once handcrafted with love, care, and fresh ingredients is now pumped out by a machine, following a watered down recipe of the original.
I'm not the most involved with Rwby behind the scenes, but did Monty leave behind notes/concept art for future events he hadn't gotten to, but haven't been made public? Because then you could say the soulless corporation is hoarding the pie's original recipe lmaoooo
@@dandyspacedandy back when he passed there was claims of a "RWBY roadmap" that he had that stretched out as far as volume 10. But as time has gone on it seems less and less likely it exists or had as much info as they claimed.
@@beauvillamor621 I don't doubt that they did come up with the ideas, but yeah, I definitely question how well developed they were and how closely they've followed them. I don't give 100% credence to Shane's letter, because some of the things he covered seemed pretty subjective, but he actually laid out several examples of issues that were happening that appeared to be pretty clear and objective descriptions of events. Feeling like other people didn't want to follow Monty's vision as much as he did is pretty subjective. Actually going into detail on how they decided to split up the animation based on what the producers felt would be quicker and more efficient is a lot more specific and comes off more objective. Plus, I imagine it probably became a lot harder to reign in their wilder ideas, since it's more difficult to veto something too over-the-top when it's just two people behind developing the story instead of three. Star Wars is actually a pretty decent example of these issues, IMO. The original trilogy wasn't perfect, but it was a damn solid series. Then the prequels came along, and Lucas didn't seem to have anyone in production who was willing and able to say things like "Maybe that's not the best idea" or "Nice concept, but let's refine it a bit" to reign in the wackier elements, which led to...well...things like Anakin's sand speech and making Jar Jar Binks a major focus of "The Phantom Menace." Then the sequels came along, and were headed by a major corporation that just wanted a popular IP to profit from, which led to it feeling less like a Star Wars film by people who cared about the series and more like something slapped together in a board room by a bunch of executives. RWBY...kind of seems to have both of those issues in recent years.
What's hilarious about Penny being made human is how the writers completely forgot that Pinocchio had to go through character development in order to become human Penny didn't. She started off as a kind girl rather than learning to be one.
What's even more disappointing is that there was so much character potential and story lore with Penny being a maiden. Cuz that opened up a whole slew of questions and mysteries. Who knew to be a maiden you just had to have a soul of some kind. She was a wasted character alongside Neapolitan.
Regarding the point about being more infatuated with the idea of RWBY than the actual story, I've noticed that a lot of people are. A lot of fans have headcanons of what the show is, and they've transposed that fanon onto the canon to the point that talking to two different fans feels like discussing two different shows. It also doesn't help that RWBY scatters important details all over the place, so you might think you understand a basic plot point only for someone to reveal that no you're wrong and the real explanation is in the mini-series/books/manga/video-games/panel interviews/retconned out of existence. As Hhbomberguy puts it, RWBY is a fun show to write a Wiki about because it's so chock full of cool ideas that ultimately go nowhere and seemingly only exist to be cool, which was fine back in the early volumes but not anymore.
The story was never great. What made the show was the cool fight scenes. Once their best fight animator died the show died. Now we have the same mediocre story but without the flashy fight scenes to distract us.(although volumes 7 and 8 really improved on the fight scenes so there is still hope). At this rate the only RWBY content I have to look forward to is maybe the occasional new character in cross tag battle and I don't see any new RWBY characters appearing there any time soon.
This includes the critics too though, they pretend the show was good back in the day and only bad now when it's been tue same problems since forever. They created an alternate good version of the first three Volumes.
Honestly the fact that there are au's that I fucking love more than the actual show, I tend to like the original material more cause its what attracted me, just screams to the current me how bad rwby is I honestly don't even watch the episodes and just scavenge around for synopsis' of them and if there's a fight scene being praised I'll just youtube it...
I think what is really important here is recognizing that the show is flawed and there are things worth calling out . On top of that for a lot of us the show owns our souls and we’re always gonna watch it / talk about ( not always publicly) and I think we should be allowed to have honest conversations about the show and not be labeled haters or toxic or xyz apologist. Like it’s werid to me because he hat dom thing was from my perspective a catagory made for ppl who made bad faith criticisms from the right wing “rwbys to gay it’s sjw shit blah blah blah “ but then the fandom completely dismissed H bomber guys video who is one of the BIGGEST figures on left tube and bisexual he’s literally in the same as contrapoints and philosophy tube and Lindsay Ellis yet they brand him a hatedom member who is just being a hater ??? One of the worst times in the fandom for me is after volume 6 where I am tryna talk about how the show got my story so wrong as a POC and every one yelling at me saying I am an abuse apologist and I hate blake and woman and that I am “ gatekeepong racsim “ Which ooo boy that one was silly asf Or with this FG situation ppl are like “your not grateful for the LGBT rep we already have why isn’t bees enough for you you must hate sapphic rep you must hate women “ And it’s so frustrating to not be Abel to have honest conversations especially when we’re hurting and we need to be seen by our community Toxic positivity in so real so is being a privileged and living in ur bubble and that’s what’s keeping so many ppl from seeing the truth on top of the fact that are just always gonna defend the show over marginalized ppl . I am proud of thomas for making this video and I hope you guys are opening to hearing them talk about Rwby in an honest way and take him in good faith even if you disagree cause line disagreement is fine it’s beautiful WE disagree on some Rwby stuff here and there but plz just like have an open mind not just with Thomas but with other Rwby TH-camrs because stuff like what happned to twins ink SHOULD not happen to anyone
Yeah, I think a lot of discourse about all the LGBTQ+ and POC representation stuff comes from the conflicting opinions people within the minority communities can have. Like one lesbian can find Black and Yang amazing representation, while another cannot. One POC can relate to the written POC, while another cannot. Because there is so little POC representation, people both scrutinize it, yet at the same time, protect it like it's their baby. So when one POC like yourself is just honest and says it doesn't work for you, you either piss off the side that feels it endangers the representation we have gotten, or If another POC does love it, you must be wrong, because you are negative and they are positive. Two POC can never disagree about representation. /s It really sucks, because your viewpoint is just as valid as theirs and has the right to be heard, especially over all their positivity.
RWBY's white fang storyline was undoubtedly flawed, but Adam being an abuser wasn't one of them. Real Black Revolutionary groups had problems with men using their positions to carry out violence against women (Angela Davis cited it as a problem for why she didn't join up with the black panthers); obviously saying that most leaders are like this is bullshit but to claim that they don't exist at all is a lie. Likewise there are revolutionary leaders who don't give a rats ass about equality and just want power (see Robert Mugabe); the problem was that the other revolutionary leaders aren't fleshed out. Compare Marco Inaros from the Expanse; he's like Adam in that a.) he was the former lover of one of the main characters who they left after seeing their true nature (Marco tricked Naomi Nagata into helping him commit mass murder) b.) pursues a murderous vendetta against his former lover and those close to her (tries to blow up the main character because they're dating and he considers Naomi his property) c.) Clearly only cares about his own power and ambition (he's willing to hurt innocent belters as collateral damage/to avenge his wounded ego) and d.) is ultimately a pawn in someone else's ambition despite his ego. Thing is, in the Expanse we not only see the oppression that Belters endure (the first season finale is the bad guys unleashing an alien bioweapon on a large Belter colony simply because they want to do a science experiment and feel that Belters are expandable vermin). We also see other leaders who while somewhat ruthless have humanizing elements and are genuinely trying to better their people. As such it's clear that the problem isn't with Belter Liberation, it's with Marco being a psychopathic prick. If RWBY say gave Sienna and Ghira more depth, and showed actual abuse that Faunus endured it would be far less insulting. truthout.org/articles/why-misogynists-make-great-informants/
The problem with Hbomberguy is that his video said nothing new, claiming "RWBY is disappointing" while only looking at the first 3 Volumes, the fact that he blamed a lot of things on Miles & Kerry despite those ideas being Monty's, the stupid self-insert accusation and claiming he was always a fan of Monty despite there being comments of him shitting on Monty when V2 was airing
@@ryanmoore6259 that's how I felt. As a black man myself I personally found it horrifying that my people were starting to identify with adam. @@ryanspears9704 I personally don’t consider myself a victim of this issue. I like the show well enough but there are things I just find stupid and I have no trouble pointing it out. Now, did I used to be pretty harsh to people who criticized the show a lot? Yeah. But that was mainly when I was just getting into it and wasn’t all that familiar with storytelling as a concept overall. I know better now. That being said. I do give credit where it is due, and I think that’s kinda part of the reason why MurderOfBird’s Ozcar’s are such a hit. It’s really just a show doing just that. And I think that’s something that can be pretty easily agreed upon no matter your overall view. On the other hand there are some viewpoints on the show I just find objectively stupid because they bring politics into the mix… but then again that’s how I see everything political so, nothing crazy there.

@@ryanspears9704 Okay I’m not trying to sound harsh here but you do realize that the reason why so many people are concerned about their “mental health” nowadays is because we’ve allowed ourselves to become too sensitive and have forgotten to just let things just slide off us like water on a ducks back. Or act like HP Lovecraft and have a hair trigger at even the slightest sign of negativity. It’s just… ridiculous in my opinion. But that’s just my view on it. You do you man.
And toxic positivity shields the person being criticized from improving. When someone criticizes you unfairly, it confirms your suspicions of what didn't work in your art, but for most people, at some point they come to the conclusion that they reached their goal on even though they are still being criticized. But toxic positivity just perpetuates the lie when something is not good and in some cases, even damaging to your evolution as an artist.

hbomberguy really did label RWBY perfectly when calling it "disappointing". The show had so much potential to be great. It initially presented an interesting world, likable characters, and some thought provoking story hooks. For me, the show always failed in its execution. The broad ideas and setups were often good but when the fan theories and week-to-week speculation are better than what actually happened, you know you have a problem.

Honestly, this could be a great in-universe RWBY topic to talk about. Due to the fact "Negative Emotions" attract Grimm, you'd think that Toxic Positivity would be encouraged in Remnant. So perhaps the show's message should be more about BALANCE in positive and negative emotions because there is nothing wrong in experiencing either.
As someone who dropped the show 4 seasons ago I understand how you feel. I personally wanted it to end after season 3. It’s a great concept crushed by incompetence. A sad loss of potential.
@@spencermalley10 But that's why I like it. It opens the door to so much leave so much to tell and say. Its open ended and lets the fans tell their own story. Its how a good story should end not with a tombstone crushing all future growth but with a million branching paths that each can bear fruit. When I saw the end of Season 3 I was inspired and I wanted more like I think we all did. But sometimes a bad sequel is worse than no sequel. With no sequel we could have each chosen how the story progressed and each of us would have been equally valid. Penny’s death made me upset (as you could probably tell from my icon lol) and not in the way character deaths are supposed to upset you. It felt like bad writing and I was tired of the fandom saying that we were supposed to be sad and disappointed. I hated that it portrayed Penny essentially committing suicide as the “only way” and for “the greater good” that shit sucked so hard. And I’m sure there’s been lots of comments by the creators on it or what not that construe it as being some other thing but it’s really not. Not to mention how they already had a n o t h e r way they were going to kill Penny, and resolved that, only for them to kill her in the next episode. For the second time.
The production team really needs to stop pumping out volumes so fast and just sit down to outline SOME kind of future for the show rather than winging it season by season with only vague future ideas. The speed at which they put out each volume not only effects the story though, but also the music and character designs. And that sucks cause honestly I was mostly enjoying the show cause of the fight scenes, music, and character designs which seemed to be so lovingly crafted in the first few volumes. Not to say the story was terrible at the start, but honestly it really wasn't as good as most fans make the narrative of the first 3 volumes out to be, especially with how they've paid off. That being said I was fine with the mediocre story at first cause it was an ameture team working on a project that the company didn't have much faith in. I was just happy Monty finally got his own original project! Now we're how many volumes in and the story telling is still ameture while the more artistic parts of the product are slowly stagnating? Uhg, sorry for the rambling. Also, loving all your content besides RWBY stuff. Love to see how passionate you are about Winx Club and that WITCH vid was 👌
Agree! I think them pushing out volume after volume every year when they struggle each time to do so is mind boggling. Even Red VS Blue Zero (the newest season) has only eight episodes. We've gone from 21 episodes from Season 15, Season 16 has 15 episodes, Season 17 has 12 episodes and then Zero has 8. Which is weird because it seemed like this would be a new chapter for the show but barely any time was given to it. Maybe they're juggling too many animation projects at once or there's corporate meddling going on. But time management has been an issue for years and it seems like no matter what we tell them, they just keep pushing out the shows as fast as possible.
@@spritemon98 They start producing the next volume right before they release the current volume, so before the first episode of V8 there was confirmation of them starting V9, granted they could definitely use more time they do have quite a bit with just over a year of production or so

Not done with the video yet, but I have to say that I am extremely happy a content creator in the RWBY fandom is talking about "toxic positivity." It's been such a rampant problem in the fandom, and specifically /r/rwby where for every 2 posts giving valid criticism (like about, let's say, the entirety of vol 5) there'd be one post complaining about how the subreddit has gotten "too negative" No comment about the validity of the criticism being presented, no comment of the harshness, just the fact that were criticisms was seen as "negative" I've seen it as so much of an issue that I've legitimately thought of making a serious video talking about how awful the discourse around RWBY is, with toxic positivity as the main talking about. Again, not even finished with the video yet, but just hearing you mention it is honestly so refreshing.
Omg, that subreddit is a shithole. I remember not liking qrow/tyrian vs. clover and saying that right after the ep aired, and I got downvoted to hell and back and people kept arguing against me instead of trying to see my perspective that the fight was rather contrived and forced just for more qrow angst... like you can disagree w me but respect other people's views about a *show* yknow?

@@icecontrol1 Whataboutism isn't a very good approach to a discussion. Hopping into a preexisting conversation and saying "But what about THIS!" doesn't somehow invalidate the issue that was being discussed. If I'm talking with someone about a policy that Joe Biden came up with, and I criticize something about that policy, you hopping in and saying "But Trump made a shitty policy too!" wouldn't suddenly make the criticism of Biden's decision irrelevant. Whatever stupid nonsense Trump did isn't the topic of discussion. The topic of discussion is the stupid nonsense that Biden is currently doing, and all that you'd accomplish by randomly shouting "But what about the thing TRUMP DID!?!!!???" is make it clear that you're trying to derail the discussion in lieu of actually forming a rebuttal to the criticism. Same principle applies here. The world isn't like some of those videogames where you're limited to having only one quest available at a time, and taking up a new one will cancel the old one. They're not blind just because they were discussing a separate issue, and trying to cut in with "But what about THIS problem!" won't make the one they were discussing suddenly vanish.

Honestly, you put into words what I've felt for a long time. When I think about RWBY I mostly feel just sadness at what could have been. I will always be grateful for the fandom existing. No matter how vexing it can be, and the works they create. Both the show and the Fndm are what inspired me to finally start writing, even if I find myself seeing what not to do more in rwby than anything else.
Hbomberguy's video also articulated a lot of the underlying feelings I've had with the show really well. Like I was unhappy with the show, but didn't really have a way of explaining it until I saw that video. I'm not gonna lie from what I've heard from a lot of former RWBY fans, that video was really the final nail in the coffin for them as well.
As someone who followed the show since the very 4 original trailers were released, I am VERY critical with it because of how good it could have been and the mess it is now. I am so dissapointed by almost everything that happened in the last volumes, the writting and how they fucked up Yang's character. I always saw her as a very strong character who didn't need a relationship (and as a aro that was great) but when the fans and VAs pushed the bumblebee it was ruined for me. Not because of the lesbian ship, but because it was rushed, pushed and they doesnt even care about developing it properly or even showing it directly for the clear lesbian representation and inclusion that they "want" (they want that for the sales tbh, if they truly wanted to make a good representation, Yang x Blake would have been developed since season 1-2 instead of suddenly happening at the end of season 5). Also, the whole fiasco that happened after Monty died, and how RT fired the close friends and people who were working close to Monty and then fucking up his initial writting/story feels so bad.... I understand how you feel because it was a very important show for me as well and it feels really bad to see it like this.
RWBY: "Hey guys, heres a fantasy racism plot line. We're gonna explore a social movement and how it has an outgrowth of extremis--" RWBY: *Proceeds to never giving the white fang-**-the allegory for real world racial justice movements--** the attention it deserves. And then to push Bumblebee cuz the fans wanted it, they took the leader of this messy and not-thought-out organization and made him into a stalker* If you're going to talk about racism in a creative work, I expect an intelligent and granular look into what you're trying to explore. But the thing about RWBY is that it didn't simply have "not enough effort" in its characterization, analysis, and depth of the White Fang. It had barely any effort, and NONE of that effort was made in the first 4 seasons. You KNOW a person's (or people's) perception of anything is shallow as fuck when they make it into a villainous group and then leave it in the background. It's almost like there's....nothing deeper they wanted to say?
I feel like roosterteeth is struggling to keep up with RWBY due to Montys passing. I feel like Monty had the most vision for the show and without that vision, the quality went down.
I like all your content actually, Rwby, Winx, and all. I don’t mind the criticism as long as it’s not JUST ALL negative, that’s when it gets draining like some other creators
Same i don't mind when people have some critisim but like point out at least some of the good points too don't make it all negative cause then u can sway peoples opinion try to be as neutral as possible don't hate it but don't love it ether
@@angelhalliwell7348 there is a fundamental flaw in the scenario where a medium has several flaws and you're afraid of other people catching on to them ("then u can sway peoples opinion"). You are essentially asking for people to turn a blind eye to satisfy your narrative. You're also equating endless criticism to hate. Kind of ignorant to yourself and these people.
Given how universally loved "The Lost Fable" seemed to be, I would honestly _love_ to hear your thoughts on it. That being said, the way forward is yours. I sincerely look forward to whatever you chose to do.
I resonate with what you said you loved about the show alot. I absolutely love the IDEA of rwby. I love interesting weapons/ fighting styles, cool power systems and character tropes. RWBY had all of that. So even when Adam was had nothing more than a single trailer and a sketch in a book i really liked the idea of his character. The music being loosely character driven also just let me essentially make my own character trailers in my head or amplifying existing character moments. And now that the how feels like its not where it was, or maybe because it was never going to live up to my ideas, now the ideas i loved about the show are chaining me to the show, rather than making me love it
I must be a simple creature because I've never had issues with the show. I'm not saying there aren't imperfections, but it's the only show in my long life I've never hated on any character or annoyed with any of the storyline they went with. I'm glad you found something better for yourself. I've missed your rwby material.
the show by itself is harmless, but people tend to take it too seriously at times, same with many other "controversial" shows, like legend of Korra, which i find entertaining and visually stunning, but then you get into fandom debates and you find something as entertaining if not moreso,. havent seen the new "masters of the universe" show yet, but Im planning to do so (first time for the show itself, second time for the reactions)
@@ashikjaman1940 I mean it's their opinion so even they don't tell you it could be a great show to you but terrible for them and vice versa. ofc you already knew this but I wanted to mention how knowing which shows they watch wouldn't change anything.
I one-hundred percent agree. Toxic positivity destroyed this fandom and RoosterTeeth's terrible company policy and scandals reduced them to nothing in the eyes of many consumers, including me. I will never forget RWBY and the influence it had on me as a writer, and I love the world Monty gave us, but the show as it is just isn't it. I even feel like we'd be better off just relying on fanmade content to tell the story of Remnant, because I'm sure there are far more dedicated and talented writers in the fandom.
1. Love your content but 2. Rwby is never gonna be the same, sadly...but if you do succeed on making a change, i'll be happy to stand with you cuz i think this fandom deserves better.
This is a surprise for me to admit it, but I actually liked your video. I used to dislike you because of some of the takes and the agressive tone on twitter but I can understand why now. I didn't know what was a toxic positivity (because these two words work very weird together, no ?) so thank you for this definition to add in my "internet dictionary". I'm surprised you also liked hbomberguy review, I personally think it's a good video with many fair points. Well... Good continuation in your youtube journey whatever content you'd like to share, just do what please you !
Seriously? The idea of 'too much of a good thing' rung no bells here? I've harped on this for years since volume 5. Hell, I'm guilty of believing a franchise can do no wrong myself. You see this all the time in anime fandoms. I've since gotten old and jaded enough that I can look at something and judge it honestly. Here's the trick. When something is good. Give it props but don't excuse the flaws. When something is bad, rip it open and try to find the good and point it out while still giving it that criticism it deserves.
@@whitefang2312 The fact that 'Toxic Positivity' wasn't a thing until it was pointed out now? I've known about it for years. It's a key part of How to Write Villains well.
I also took a break from the RWBY Twitter. Not only is Twitter itself a very chaotic place but the fandom there can be quite hostile. And yeah, I haven't even enjoyed Rooster Teeth stuff since the whole Ryan from AH, how they treated Mica, their animation department etc.
Honestly, as a gay man, this is why I am not a fan of representation that is designed to be directed at people like me. Often it feels disingenuous and hollow, so I would rather just be without. It’s tricky because when you are younger, you are more desperate to feel and be noticed and in the LGBT, it’s important to have that since there are groups designed to silence them(it’s more acceptable nowadays, but still). The older I get, the more I realize how important accurate portrayal is versus being portrayed, especially if the company is just trying to create appeal for their brand.
And now the official subreddit has written it into law that anyone found associating with a subreddit that exists to criticise the show will be banned immediately and permanently. Toxic positivity indeed.
I have been missing your RWBY content so it was nice to see this on my page. I really like how critical and thoughtful you are with the show but you do so in a way that feels relatively professional and you focus on the issues I care about. I think the people that are here want to hear you rip into the show, and put forth your honest feelings on it. As someone who still gets some enjoyment from RWBY while still recognizing its crippling flaws, I enjoy your content because I don't feel defensive of my interest in the show but still get to hear criticisms I agree with. Sorry if this was rambly but thank you for bein yourself and hope to see more from ya going forward!
Another Great video, I'm still recovering from your last RWBY video, now you're making me think about toxic positivity! Twiins wants RWBYtubers to talk about their experience with the FNDM, I'm thinking about giving it a shot.... Also, have you seen the intro of BWBY episode one...
Glad to see RWBY content from you. Please always be honest about your feelings towards the show, even if others don't like it. :) Also, I just rewatched a bunch of your Winx Club videos when I saw this one pop up. Great timing lol.
Compared to the rest of the volume Jaune getting to kill Penny was easily the best. It was the only moment where I felt real shock and disbelief in the volume. Jaune and the rest of JNR is easily the mostly consistently enjoyable part of this show
This. Honestly, I think RWBY would be a much more tightly written story if JNPR had been the protagonist team from the start. Mostly because they actually feel like a group of friends.
I completely agree but that is an issue in it of itself. JNPR are constantly written better and have more moments while RWBY are shafted. I like JNPR more for sure but when watching an engaging moment with one of them i think to myself.. "this is great.. but.. kinda wish RWBY would get this kind of treatment" because as it stands, Weiss is the only one of her team that's decently written. Yang has regressed, Blake is a background character and her story is awful, Ruby as the MC is such a nothing person herself.
@@thelink6756 See, this is what I mean. It's clear with the whole shtick of "Victory is in a simple soul" that Ruby and RWBY are meant to be mostly simple, flat characters akin to Goku, but that just makes for characters who aren't compelling. Monty wanted a simple action series and designed them with this in mind. Their inception itself was flawed from the get go and bound to make things turn out this way. The mistake was having them be protagonists from the beginning, not a lack of screen time to develop nor a difference in how they are treated by the creators. Hence why a team JNPR reboot would be fucking awesome.
@@Kerrisive Hmm I would argue that Goku is only simple at face value. He has much more depth than he gets credit for. He follows a warrior code akin to Saiyans, teaches the younger generation and has had moments where he tries to learn about his opponents and tries to dissuade them. Even if up for a fight. I've atleast seen him with more emotions than ruby lol. Ruby is more akin to Natsu from FT or Sora from KH. Idk about a JNPR reboot lol.. I'd DEFINITELY watch it but if you asked me.. I'd say an all star team for current RWBY would be Jaune, Ruby, Weiss and Oscar with the rest as supporting. Plenty of opportunity to play off eachother and each serves a good role to the narrative. Ruby can still be MC because why not. Oscar has Oz and is directly tied to Salem. Weiss offsets with a more stern personality. Jaune much like Oscar is level headed and is directly related to the villains with Cinder.
I want to thank you for bringing up Toxic Positivity. I never knew there was a term for it, but I can say with confidence that I was exactly like that a few years ago. Not just with Rwby but with any kind of content. To make it worse, I was on a Games Journalism university course (yes that did exist, wildness). In other words, I was being trained to provide criticism, but I couldn't. I was so determined to defend anything my way because I thought everyone was being so negative. I even said hurtful things to people even though, on that course, they were literally just doing their jobs. That uni course taught me about this behaviour, and in turn, it is what woke me up to RWBY. I adored this show with everything I had, but it took a long time for me to finally wake up. Not just to problems with this show, but many other problematic things in other media I liked. I understood what criticism really means. It almost never comes from a place of hate. Sure it comes from frustration, annoyance, confusion, and other emotions. But mostly, it almost always comes from love. We criticise, because we care. And the people who create these shows, games, and other things, need to understand that.
I remember. The days when I watched your reviews on RWBY. I haven't even watched RWBY past the raven vs cinder fight. You just popped in my notifs so I decided to pop by. Seems like the show went in the direction I expected. Glad your back and in a better place. Who knows I might just watch more videos from you again.
I raged and ranted about how v8 made me feel somewhere and i can't be bothered doing it again it's not worth it, long story short i was angy lol. Honestly i feel and felt the same about this show and it was actually this channel that made realise the problems. (I'm about as smart as a rock lol)
I don't know why people thinks that volume 5 is worse, beacuse Rwby volume 8 is seriously, a new low. If volume 5 shows how incapable the company was at that time, volume 8 straight up shows how much they don't give a damn about rwby anymore. There's zero consideration to how the characters should be, and there's not just no logic, but also no consideration of the story as a whole. Rwby 5 could be sloppy, werid, boring, frustrating, ect, but in volume 8 they are literally manipilating the viewer's emotions. everyone just become a puppet, and will immediately win a battle/become a villian/die at any moment, just to add some thriller. Just imagine it's Pyrrha coming back to life and reunite with her friends, and then fucking lie down there in the last episode, begging Jaune to kill her again, it's stupid.
At least, in volume 5 none of the important characters has died but just background characters such as Leo, Vernal and Pilot boy. Even though villain could've won in Haven especially Cinder dumb witch with Fall Maiden would've killed every heroes there. However, I agree with about volume 7-8 was rushed, lazy writing, repeatitve story and unnecessary drama & wasted potential has happened there. The only competent characters were Watts & Tyrian as villain. Winter should've got Maiden powers in v7, I don't get it, seriously how the hell Penny got those powers in first place, then they gave information about Penny, her robotic capabilities has transfering aura machine system, so it make sense why she kept those powers from Fria. Alot of people misunderstood thought she's a real girl which is stupid tbh, look what they did to Penny now, so disappointing she should've stay dead back in volume 3. I'm not sure how they gonna begin volume 9, especially some theories revolving around, main cast (not Jaune and Neo 🙄) will probably meet dead people or something else. I hope they won't ruining it by bringing back Pyhrra or Roman alive. I also be so pissed if they make team RWBY as Maiden in story, by killing Cinder, Winter, Raven and Summer Maiden, I would be super pissed for real. It's waste of time and investment.
@@kingraplhmativo5178 what you described is not enough, 8 is straight up being offensive, with no consideration to the general story, the hard work done before, the characters who deserved so much more than being a puppet, and the whole show and the viewers. They've basically torturing and killing Penny again right after bring her back to life, like some sort of execution, with no logic during the process of hacking or the portal war. Stupid is the only word. They are just asking for money, since that's literally what they've done in the last volume, ading an aggravating amont of "bumblebee" shipping to satisfy the fans, making Cinder kill more people to make the viewers hyped about tuning in for more, and sells more merch and spin off and games to get more cash. How do they have the courage to still put Monty's name in the credits? Really just shameless.
I for one wouldn't mind you roughing up RWBY, I would love to hear your thoughts on your opinions on episode The Lost Fable.😎 I'm here regardless and keep doing what you're doing Thomas.💪
Me: *picks up megaphone* YEAH, CAN YOU SEPAK UP FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK?! But honestly, what makes RWBY so special that it can't be criticized? I understand that for a lot of people, this was probably what exposed them to anime or anime-esque shows, but like HBomber says, you're probably going to like ACTUAL anime than what RWBY is offering. I've never been happier since dropping out of the RWBY fandom years ago when the toxicity levels were reaching its peak.
I discovered RWBY the same time you did, around the release of Volume 2 (I was about 11-12). I actually discovered it through its music, the one aspect I still love about the show. It was a huge influence on my creativity as an artist and writer. I really loved the show but during Volume 5, my enjoyment was waning and I dropped it. I still thought about it and looked at fan-creations but didn't watch the new Volume. But then I discovered you and your video on the Brunswick arc from Volume 6. You were the person who got me back into the show that was a big part of my life as a pre-teen. I watched Volume 6 and Volume 7 and I had fun with all of it! All the while watching your videos and learning new things along the way. When you stopped doing regular RWBY content, I wasn't all that disappointed because I liked to listen to your takes on different shows, most of which were my favourites as a kid. You reminded me why I loved magical girl shows as much as I did when I was younger and now my love for those types of shows is rekindled. Long story short, yes, I am more than okay with your current content and don't mind if you do a RWBY video every now and again. I just hope you continue you continue to put out content that You yourself enjoy making and showing.
It's nice to see some RWBY content from you. Personally I'm happy for you to rough the show up. I prefer honesty over fake praise. the show has problems and I think you're way of highlighting those issues is much better then some channels, who can be overly aggressive I've found.
RWBY has never been a masterpiece but the first three volumes were kind of good and filled with promise. I think it needs a reboot with more competent writers. I don't mean all the books but every form of manga is actually really good with RWBY
@@icecontrol1 I don't recall ever asking for reboots for Rugrats, The Magic School Bus Animaniacs or Digimon. but it happened anyway if I wanted it or not For real Rooster Teeth is probably just surviving off RWBY so there probably too scared to reboot it
In my opinion RWBY animation needs a huge over haul because it's kinda lack luster at best but I mean they probably have an animation budget but in my opinion RWBY should have done what houseki no kuni did aka (land of the lustrous)where they still did 3d but added in 2d for moments that couldn't be captured by CG,it's amazing and a really good show and doesCGI right because with RWBY something I would like to see in RWBY is more expressive faces cause a lot of times you can see when the characters are stiff in areas and I think it would be nice if they implement 2d into the animation to make moments feel a lot more natural and also RWBY itself is a mess with it's later volumes happened like I would rather have a show that ended on a short ending than a show that's pretty much beating a dead horse and milking it for as much as it can and also could like we get some more diversity in the show like different body types even more skin tones cause all of the characters kinda just use the same model and it's all to vanilla.....
Im so happy you're in a better place now and are doing better! I really enjoy all your content and im excited to see your RWBY stuff again. I really liked listening to your critiques and feelings about the show. And if you wanna sh!t on this show then DO IT! Its not.....the best and it doesn't deserve your protection. That being said, I also have a soft spot for it and I think I always will but that doesn't mean I can't see that its getting.....interesting to put it nicely Keep up the great work and I look forward to hearing your thoughts about the upcoming seasons!
I'd love to see more RWBY content from you, don't worry about roughing up RWBY if anything it would be cathartic to hear. Please please make a video on Lost fable
Great video. I haven't seen much of RWBY (I've seen all of volumes one and two and probably about half of three) so I haven't really gotten to a lot of the problems that start appearing later on, but I have seen various TH-camrs talk about it, so I would be interested in seeing you do RWBY videos. The Lost Fable video in particular sounds like it'd be a good one.
I think it was fair when you used to play the white knight role for this show. Back then, there was just too much negativity that spawned at the end of vol 5. Though most of it was deserved, it was overwhelming for people who still like the show. At the same time, It's awesome you decided to end that role when the show's fault became inexcusable. Also, so many people have this "fuck you, got mine" mentality. It's great that you were able to double back on that and see how this victory against Adam may seem disgusting for others. I can honestly say you've shown much growth throughout the years. Looking forward to more of your videos. I enjoy your rwby videos and when you tackled sailor moon.
I respect the hell out of you for this video, my main concern was back during Vol 6 and 7 when it felt like a huge shift from what you were usually like and now getting this video putting things in context makes me happy to the point that i almost want to cry. Cause around that time, I was scared and had to unsubscribe because I thought you were giving in to the toxicity of the general fandom. But with this video, i'm glad you were able to put this in perspective. Please continue your content within reason and I cant wait to see your next video.
I'm glad you've moved in that sense, I kind of got worried awhile back. In many ways I'm the same way. The RWBY I envisioned was a bittersweet, painful, and arduous journey to reach days of peace and happiness, after experiencing the horror and pointlessness of war, a loss of innocence, and going through bad situation to another bad situation, that honestly made you question if victory was even possible. And yet, they do come out of it, not how they'd hoped to, but out of it all the same, and now they have a chance. Unfortunately that was not what we got, and for me, it was post volume 6 that I realized that would never happen. Volume 5 was where it was nearly about to fall off the cliff, but volume 6 did it, and then some.
I'm still not over the fact that they brought Penny back, went through all the trouble to exploit a loophole with a divine relic to make her a "real" human being (it never even seemed to be an issue for her, Penny never openly expressed a desire to become human and she ended up becoming a maiden anyway) just to kill her AGAIN ten minutes later. It just felt emotionally manipulative. That, and they absolutely destroyed Ironwood's character because he was becoming more compelling and interesting than the main cast.
I made a hyperbolic statement on how fanfics were probably better than the original just because CRWBY is in a weird situation (especially with everything coming out about RT) where the team wants to do x, but execs want y to be done, and then don't let CRWBY have the time or breathing room to do anything, so I really don't think it's getting better. I got some of the craziest accusations/attacks for simply implying that anything could be better than the source material and I was like "...are we watching the same show??? And I criticize it as a fan of RWBY!!! I don't even just 'hate RWBY' like you say I do!"
The golden age of roosterteeth was when RvB: seasons 8-10 were released. After that, it's all downhill. And here we are. Very very close to the bottom of the hill.
Really am glad to see ya be honest about your problems and if you do decide to do more smaller videos about the show the one I work really appreciate you could is about Penny..... Just everything that happened to her just hurts the think about.
I dropped Rwby around the time volume 5 came out. I was at a stage that year where every anime I explored, I criticised. Then next thing you know, I didn’t watch any anime for a while. In a way it felt like because I kept analysing and nitpicking every detail, I drained myself and was unknowingly taking out all the fun, entertainment and joy the shows were bring meant to bring me and others in the first place. So just about 2 weeks ago, I went back and picked up a lot of anime I dropped over the years ( mostly the ones I criticised harshly ) and one of them included RWBY. I went in with a new mindset of just accepting that shows will be flawed, not everything will be perfect. Then what do you know, surprisingly volumes 6, 7 & 8 were really engaging to watch, with volume 8 now being my favourite. Literally this Atlas arc made me like Rwby once again, don’t know if it’s because I’ve chilled out a bit and not judging the show anymore or because I took a break from it. I’m now interested to see RWBY all the way to the end. Having a positive mindset just makes an experience so much better. At the end of the day, I started watching anime for the entertainment. Not to be a critic, trying to add so much logic and sense to anime is unnecessary because anime is not and never was bound by realistic measures. Once people have the clarity of finally realising this, they’ll see shows in a different light
@@romeb.1060 Lmao no. In a way I went back to the old days of thinking ( my childhood ) when I just enjoyed anime for what they are. There’s seriously so much negativity these days, that life is becoming stale. Like they say, live life to the fullest. Be open to experience things in an enjoyable way and not always judge and look down on others and their creations
@@romeb.1060 Why are you being rude? Don't shit on them for wanting to enjoy things! I also watch anime for what it is " fun shit that makes no sense" and it's fun when you watch it like that.
As someone who really likes RWBY, and adored Volume 8, I respect the dissenting opinions, and think that they're honestly healthy for a fandom to have. I probably won't watch future RWBY videos, as I want to simply enjoy the show while acknowledging its faults, but I wish you the best.
I have a question Unicorn, have you ever considered watching Invincible? There’s a rather small amount of Gay representation but it’s mainly just a fantastic show I can see you enjoying.
@@andrewrogers3067 it does do it well. But i guess i myself notice myself getting toxic when thinking about my ships not getting their way. Im trying not to be but cant help it. The only way i think it is well done is when its done without being too into the face. Which i sometimes feel is too hard and rwby is failing at that...which is alright since its a different world where heterosexuality doesng have to be the norm like with us. Still Whiteknight and rosegarden 4ever.
I'm primarily here for the RWBY stuff, and I think that you should definitely not shackle yourself to the chains of respectability or in the name of a show that doesn't respect its audience the way it used to. I am all for you being 100% honest in your RWBY content going forward, and I will definitely be tuning in every time I see something new. Definitely one of my fave TH-camrs in general, and a big reason why I wanted to share my own opinions. Keep up the solid work and don't keep us waiting too long! (Though really, take however long you need.) Also, thank you for recommending Celtic Phoenix's Fixing RWBY series. It's been very enjoyable so far, and incredibly eye-opening. Much obliged for that.
I wanted to say that thank you and love you. Make the content you want to HOWEVER….. I just wanted to wonder would you ever review Adam Taurus one more time? I think Adam Taurus and Vergil Sparda are very similar in ways most people don’t realize? -Great Hair -Iado justsu -A Symbol of the pain they experienced? (Adam being his Scar and Mask and Vergil being Yamato which was passed from his father) -Desperately seeking power in order to never feel weakness or pain again. -The “Motivation” to defeat one person who has always gotten in there way to gain more power -Killed an Ally because they feel they are inadequate to do what they need (Idk how I could’ve said that any better.) -Had destroyed someone’s arm in the process of displaying/obtaining power (reaching with this one but the arm thing itself is relatively accurate?) -Stabs their “rival” around stomach area -Both Moon Slice and Judgment Cut End attack a wide area -Blitzing Combat speed? -They both lose to their “rival” falling from a water fall. -Blinded by fear of being weak, they have a superiority complex. Please don’t Witch Hunt me, I just want people to understand what I mean when I say “Adam Deserved a Second Chance.” The man was tortured and beaten. Scared and Branded by a Company that is more or less a dick. And he has never even gotten a chance to see Weiss or Ruby. Not even Qrow knew who he was. And for the more part. We never knew Adams parents, his turning point when he started taking up a sword. It’s a shame to see such a Devil May Cry like character be killed off without it being a good send off…… That’s All I mean
i just want the old rwby back also im no good for a story analyst, so i dobt care that v1-3 was bad in writing, i just dont notice stuff like that. but i just like the old vibe, and thats what i want back. and the artstyle was a major part of that.
All of my friends ask me why I still watch RWBY and honestly I have come to terms and made peace with RWBY for what it is and decided to see it through to the end cause for me it was the one show that I actually got my mother to enjoy watching with me that was anime like before she passed away a few years ago and for me that’s enough for it to be a favorite guilty pleasure watch for me, it was never so much the story itself but the action sequences and the time I spent watching it with her that meant more to me.
Sadly I just can't handle it anymore. The show can't even maintain continuity in a single episode at times in Vol. 8 and after they *Adam'd* Ironwood, and all the toxicity of the fandom and the insultingly embarrassing takes on social media, I'm just here to casually watch the fall from a comfy distance. Just setting up my shade outside the city before it collapses. Edit: I will say that I'm glad you've grown in a way to help you see things better and to better interact with others too. I just wish there were more and more fans like you.
@@ryanmoore6259 never said he wasn’t. But he had a heart, he wasn’t always just a brainless cartoon villain like RT turned him into. And his anger towards the protagonists was kinda… justified considering he trusted them from the beginning and they took that trust and abused it. I really think it’s foolish to just follow whatever team rwby says. But that’s my opinion.
omg omg omg, I was wondering if you could talk about "Angel's Friends" because I feel like no one really talks about it at all. It's pretty underrated to be honest
You know, I seen MMD fan animation of Rwby that parody old vines that I enjoy more than the actually show because it gives the characters more personality and the jokes of the vines given to each characters is more funnier than the actually show itself
14:14 LMAO I remember literally writing "I only paid to watch the latest RWBY Volume" in the text box they give you to write in after I canceled my membership a few years ago, glad to see they made it an option 😂
Love seeing RWBY back at it again! Thomas I just want to say thank you so much for the content that you make, and in a weird way I've kind of gone through a similar journey regarding the show right along side you. Pretty much your toxic positivity phases and then V8 becoming a breaking point was nearly the same as mine. However for V8 my breaking point was the awful fight animation and writing in the episode100 milestone (don't worry I understand the animators can't go all out likely because of lack of freedom and terrible script), and an even further breaking point was Penny becoming human and her subsequent assisted suicide. As some with Asperger's syndrome I (unfortunately mainly in hindsight) have identified a lot with Penny and the issues she faces. I saw her robotic nature and quirks-well not "Autism-coding" as I think that and even "Trans-coding" are too specific and don't really cover the entire picture of her character, but Penny I felt was something I like to refer to as "Divergent Coding". Not to be confused with neurodivergant, I refer to "Divergent Coding" as simply being coded as someone who, due to uncontrollable circumstances (primarily birth based reasons such) are an outcast from societal norms. So "Divergent Coding" would be an umbrella for things like disability, neurodivergant, and LGBTQ+. And boy was I personally disgusted by Penny just... having the decision made for her that she had to become human (instead of just moving the virus through another effigy) and have zero say in it despite the maiden powers already validating her personhood. Only for her to commit suicide later and "die pure". On the assisted suicide, hoy crap I have close loved ones that have had to tango with that stuff and Penny's suicide infuriates me. People say it was a "sacrifice" but the idea Penny's only agency and choice was suicide after a volume's worth of misery P+rn and what could be interpreted as depression... holy crap what kind of message (intentional or not) does that send? Also about that last Miles clip, I am surprised you didn't include him perving on his drunken ex making out with another girl. Finally despite the infamy of the platform, there is a Tumblr blogger ( why-i-hate-rwby-now.tumblr.com/post/644936671575621632/about-evil-ironwood-and-ableism-in-media-some?is_related_post=1 ) that also rips into RWBY and exposes a lot of the problematic issues regarding the show and the show's faux progressivism. The link specifically takes you to a post regarding the ableism around Ironwood's character. (not to mention the ableism around Penny). All in all I would be so down for more videos criticizing the show (like Lost Fable) and its myriad of issues. Actually it was thanks to the likes of your WF video that I became extra invested in your channel and learned so much.
Penny is complicated. She's always throwing herself into danger and in her human body she was ironically more vulnerable. So her getting mortally wounded felt natural. At the same time it also felt cheap. The show nightfall had a similar problem. A character gets killed off rather abruptly. In universe it made sense but it was still really cheap.
The potential of the the show's entire concept lived and died with Monty, sad as that is. It's hard seeing what its become, knowing he had so much passion and creativity he'd wanted to work into it.
I'm about halfway through the video, and while so far I agree with your points, I feel the need to point out that Miles Luna is bi. So, regardless of the quality of the show's representation, it's incorrect to say that it's lead by only cishet men. Also, I think a good writer should be able to write about experiences outside their own and tackle complex issues, so I don't consider "you're not part of a minority" valid criticism. From my perspective, if a neurotypical decides to write about autism and does it well, I'll have nothing but praise for them. Edit: Turns out I was probably wrong about Miles' sexuality. I stand by the second part though.
Miles being bi makes things so much worse in my opinion. Giving scraps and teases of queer relationships then no going with it? Teasing it enough to give queer people hope but not enough to definitively stamp out the homophobes, he should know better. (He also should have known about having all of the fairgame teases before killing Clover off would show) The issue isn't just that they aren't part of the minority groups, it's that the writing of it was bad.
As white cishet man who strives to write conscientiously myself...the point isn't really that they are absolutely incapable of doing such a thing period. It's more of a systemic issue. For one, if you have a team of multiple writers there's really no reason to not attempt to incorporate at least some degree of diversity there. ESPECIALLY when the characters and plot that they are writing include minority/marginalized individuals and themes of racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. There are countless of examples outside of RWBY where a largely white (or male, or straight, or able-bodied, neurotypical, etc) writing room absolutely botches it with their naivety. And even if it is just like an individual author writing a book...if they're writing about these characters and themes the they should seek input from others. Being well-intentioned and thinking yourself educated isn't enough. I have a black wife, trans brother, and disabled daughter, and am overall plugged into leftist and social justice spaces, so I'm better equipped than most white guys in understanding the issues and even I don't fully trust myself to create something regarding those issues without getting feedback. Again: it's not that that white cismen are completely incapable of writing about these issues, or that they should be excluded from creating such stories altogether. But they definitely need stop overestimating themselves and get some damned input and constructive criticism.
@@machaelamcqueen883 I agree, the show has representation issues, but it's important to get the facts right. Plus I don't consider Fair Game valid criticism. One thing that frustrates me about shipping communities is that they eliminate bromances. While I understand why people could've thought that Fair Game would develop into something romantic, it worked just as well as a friendship. I _have_ real life friendships like that, with other straight guys. So, I understand the disappointment, but blaming the writers for that particular one is just wrong. Close friendships have a place in fiction too. And with Bumblebee and Whiterose teases, it was a breath of fresh air for me. Again, not to say that RWBY doesn't have representation issues. Bumblebee should've long since been confirmed, the White Fang allegory is clumsy (though I strongly disagree with Thomas' take on it), and May is appealing representation. But with Fair Game, I maintain that critics are latching into the wrong thing. I can elaborate this point further if anyone requests it.
@@Kadaspala Oh I completely agree. If you're writing about a sensitive issue that affects many real life people without being part of said issue, you have a duty to inform yourself first. Autism Speaks and Music are perfect examples of smug and arrogant neurotypicals thinking they understand us better than we understand ourselves without ever doing proper research. However - and this is supported by Miles being bi - I would argue that even if you _are_ part of a minority, that doesn't mean you're equipped to fairly represent the issue either. If someone can only see the issue from the outside _or_ the inside, they don't have a complete picture. You need to be able to put yourselves in the shoes of _everyone_ involved within a particular problem, plus have the critical thinking skills to interpret the experience and reproduce it fairly. Not that people don't have an edge when it comes to writing about their own group's issues, but I still think that it's an overrated requirement.
@@guicaldo7164 even if it's just friendship it was still a needless death. They made pretty much every instance of Clover in the season have some form of interaction with qrow and the biggest thing: if Clover or Qrow were female and it was a straight ship there is no way it wouldn't have been more "explicitly" romantic. Not to mention you have them with complimentary semblances, and complementary colours which is HUGE in a show like this. If they didn't want it to be romantic Clover should not have the good luck semblance or the green colouring (Not to mention animators purposely animating it to look as gay as possible and drawing ship fanart NOT OKAY)
3:25 this was possibly the smartest and strangest thing you’ve ever said. I myself only really adored rwby back then because I made things up in my own version that I loved. And so many other people loved it that way as well, it’s a weird phenomenon that can’t be explained too well.
Oh yes please do a Lost Fable video! I remember watching that episode back then and actually enjoying it, but nowadays when I look back at RWBY's main problems in the story/plot they went with Salem and the maidens... its all rooted on that one. I don't know if that's what you would be talking about in that kind of video I'm sure it would be interesting to hear no matter what.
While I adore Volume 8 and the current writing the show has, I applaud this video. It's so clear that you have no ill intent and just are expressing your genuine complaints. You did incredibly well delivering each complaint carefully and really explained your reasoning. I know this comment really doesn't say much but you did really well with this video.
We all keep watching this show hoping it will get better. Truly an abrupt quality shift is a better cliffhanger than anything the show writers have come up with.
I'm glad that you are able to bring the RWBY content in your perspective, and not be blinded by outside sources. It feels like the story is very.... flailing. I'm going to be blunt and say Monty didn't fully understand how story telling worked (in my personal opinion) But I was enjoying it for the charm it had and it was unique. The new writers didn't fully understand that sometimes you have to look at a flawed product and try to find the good in that flawed product. For an example: Gurren Laggan. Trigger adapted an Manga which around the half way point when one of the charaters died, the writer died. So what did Tigger did? They continued the story themselves, but they took what was established, what was the flaws and *made the second half better* Like everyone says the second half is the better half. What happened with RWBY wasn't that. Far from that. If anything they made it worse because I don't think they fully understood where Monty wanted to go even with what he left behind. I enjoyed your Salior Moon, W.I.T.C.H and Winx content because you looked talked about both the good and the bad about them. And in a way I'm hoping more of those in future content because I enjoy having the conversation. (And honestly the Parasocial situation is getting really scary and really bad here on youtube and other media that I'm glad you brought it up)
I don't mind you roughing RWBY up. I'd rather have honesty than faking positivity for views.

Sounds fun

A shame they just seem to repeat the same mistakes over again.

And than vol 8 happen, and the seemingly same production method (finishing episodes the day they are aired)
And since they came out that they just finished vol 8 on the day of the finale, my fear of vol 9 is going through the roof, thanks to the months long wait in the middle of the volume.
If grandpa's pie tasted like shit to begin with maybe. And was always made by a corporation

I honestly couldn't feel anything for those "deaths." I wouldn't be surprised if she comes back only for some unknown reason for Ruby to die.
What's hilarious about Penny being made human is how the writers completely forgot that Pinocchio had to go through character development in order to become human
Penny didn't.

On top of that for a lot of us the show owns our souls and we’re always gonna watch it / talk about ( not always publicly) and I think we should be allowed to have honest conversations about the show and not be labeled haters or toxic or xyz apologist.

One of the worst times in the fandom for me is after volume 6 where I am tryna talk about how the show got my story so wrong as a POC and every one yelling at me saying I am an abuse apologist and I hate blake and woman and that I am “ gatekeepong racsim “
Which ooo boy that one was silly asf
Or with this FG situation ppl are like “your not grateful for the LGBT rep we already have why isn’t bees enough for you you must hate sapphic rep you must hate women “
And it’s so frustrating to not be Abel to have honest conversations especially when we’re hurting and we need to be seen by our community
Toxic positivity in so real so is being a privileged and living in ur bubble and that’s what’s keeping so many ppl from seeing the truth on top of the fact that are just always gonna defend the show over marginalized ppl .

It really sucks, because your viewpoint is just as valid as theirs and has the right to be heard, especially over all their positivity.

First off, love your content,
0:08 I feel a lot of people I feel can agree that having Salem and a majority of her villains and Ironwood and his ace ops both in the foreground at the Same time was a major issue
0:11 Not the torture itself but I wish he got to hang out more with characters onscreen like Emerald similar to how Jaune and Yang, and Weiss and Nora had moments
0:14 The blizzards in Texas give it a pass
0:17 Main issue was that May had more focus in development
0:24 Main issue is how Penny was gravely so easily just from Cinder’s arm

Volume 8 is better than 5 but suffers from similar issues. I imagine 9 would be better but like 6 as you said there will probably be at least some issues. Also we can all agree the music still kicks ass.
15:39 I’m honestly going to skip the first Third of Volume 9 but YES I’D Love to see your content perhaps on specific characters
I like your shoelaces ;) And yeah agreed. I actually liked a lot of what early v8 had to offer, but pretty much everything I loved about it was later ruined. Like Ren and Yang's fight that went nowhere and Ren suddenly agreed, or Yang and Ruby's conflict that went nowhere. Or Penny's hacking plot that went nowhere. Or the idea we'd be getting some clarification on the merge and then Oscar's arc was completely forgotten about for the last 3 episodes. Or--
Vol 8 had an amazing start and it climaxed and completely fell off. Same with vol 6 as well. Vol 7 was a rough-ish start but the ending was one of the best of the series and really built up the hype for a subpar vol 8.
@@PrimalRegice112 wow, I agree with every one of those opinions. Nice!
@@PrimalRegice112 Volume 8 probably had the least hype for Volume 9 in an ending because it was basically focusing on deaths we knew weren’t actually deaths even though Ozpin probably know where they are since he had the staff long before he used it for Atlas

One problem I had with the fandom is how they excuse Blake's abuse of Sun in volume 4.
I'm sure they won't even call it abuse
@@averageanimefan519 zero's story is all over the place

I admire your courage in admitting your faults and owning up to your past toxic behavior. I look forward to more honest criticism from you. Rough up RWBY if it deserves it. I would love to see your thoughts on the lost fable.
Not done with the video yet, but I have to say that I am extremely happy a content creator in the RWBY fandom is talking about "toxic positivity." It's been such a rampant problem in the fandom, and specifically /r/rwby where for every 2 posts giving valid criticism (like about, let's say, the entirety of vol 5) there'd be one post complaining about how the subreddit has gotten "too negative"
No comment about the validity of the criticism being presented, no comment of the harshness, just the fact that were criticisms was seen as "negative"
I've seen it as so much of an issue that I've legitimately thought of making a serious video talking about how awful the discourse around RWBY is, with toxic positivity as the main talking about.
You must be blind, look at r/rwbycritics, literally anything the show does is a crime against storytelling or asshole like Hero Hei being obsessed with hating it
@@icecontrol1 we ain't talking about that sub mate
@@VenathTehN3RD lol dude this is not the same, in this case we are talking about toxicity in the fandom, yet the video acts as if only toxic positivity is the issue when its clearly not, talk about the community needing to change but never once talks about the people who irrationally hate on it, some which are here in the comments acting as if they were "right all along to hate it"
Honestly, you put into words what I've felt for a long time.
We're gonna explore a social movement and how it has an outgrowth of extremis--"
RWBY: *Proceeds to never giving the white fang-**-the allegory for real world racial justice movements--** the attention it deserves. And then to push Bumblebee cuz the fans wanted it, they took the leader of this messy and not-thought-out organization and made him into a stalker*
If you're going to talk about racism in a creative work, I expect an intelligent and granular look into what you're trying to explore.
To hear Monty talk about it it seemed like there was bigger plans for it but they were left on the wayside when he died
I'm not to sure about that zom.

The only show? Can I ask what other kinds of shows you typically watch?
the show by itself is harmless, but people tend to take it too seriously at times, same with many other "controversial" shows, like legend of Korra, which i find entertaining and visually stunning, but then you get into fandom debates and you find something as entertaining if not moreso,. havent seen the new "masters of the universe" show yet, but Im planning to do so (first time for the show itself, second time for the reactions)

That's sad.
This is a surprise for me to admit it, but I actually liked your video. I used to dislike you because of some of the takes and the agressive tone on twitter but I can understand why now.

Also, I just rewatched a bunch of your Winx Club videos when I saw this one pop up.
Agreed 100%. The manga for the JNPR short stories released and it’s pretty good! I was shocked!
RWBY Vol 1-2(maybe 3 idk): Alive and magical feels.
RWBY Vol 4-8: ironically becomes like Grimm: no soul.
I say ruff it up. Also super interested in hearing about your book.

Nevermind an overhaul. Right now it needs a big kick beyond an overhaul -- a full reboot.

A video about "The Lost Fable" would be very welcomed ;)
Hell yeah, especially comparing the inconsistency of Salem’s immortality that you see in volume 8.
So you opened your third eye and learned the age old technique of "turning your brain off". Good for you?
@@romeb.1060
Lmao no.
I really don't think a Show should be rated by gay representation.
@@hntr5495 It shouldn’t, but it’s one of the few that does it well and it isn’t a major part of the story.

Thanks for admitting this. The white LGBTQ+ community REALLY hyperfocused on the WLW rep instead of the issue regarding the white fang.
(Though really, take however long you need.)
Also, thank you for recommending Celtic Phoenix's Fixing RWBY series. It's been very enjoyable so far, and incredibly eye-opening. Much obliged for that.
I wanted to say that thank you and love you. Make the content you want to
HOWEVER…..
I just wanted to wonder would you ever review Adam Taurus one more time? I think Adam Taurus and Vergil Sparda are very similar in ways most people don’t realize?
-Great Hair
-Iado justsu
-A Symbol of the pain they experienced? (Adam being his Scar and Mask and Vergil being Yamato which was passed from his father)
-Desperately seeking power in order to never feel weakness or pain again.
-The “Motivation” to defeat one person who has always gotten in there way to gain more power
-Killed an Ally because they feel they are inadequate to do what they need (Idk how I could’ve said that any better.)
-Had destroyed someone’s arm in the process of displaying/obtaining power (reaching with this one but the arm thing itself is relatively accurate?)
-Stabs their “rival” around stomach area
-Both Moon Slice and Judgment Cut End attack a wide area
-Blitzing Combat speed?
-They both lose to their “rival” falling from a water fall.
-Blinded by fear of being weak, they have a superiority complex.
Please don’t Witch Hunt me, I just want people to understand what I mean when I say “Adam Deserved a Second Chance.”
The man was tortured and beaten. Scared and Branded by a Company that is more or less a dick. And he has never even gotten a chance to see Weiss or Ruby. Not even Qrow knew who he was. And for the more part. We never knew Adams parents, his turning point when he started taking up a sword. It’s a shame to see such a Devil May Cry like character be killed off without it being a good send off……
That’s All I mean
The character development you had was better then anything we got in RWBY.
The problem with RWBY is that everyone wants it to be good
because it *was* good
i just want the old rwby back
also im no good for a story analyst, so i dobt care that v1-3 was bad in writing, i just dont notice stuff like that.
but i just like the old vibe, and thats what i want back.
and the artstyle was a major part of that.
Hbomberguy: RWBY is a good show to write a wiki about.
Do whatever's best for your mental health
Ironwood was always a tyrant
@@ryanmoore6259 never said he wasn’t. But he had a heart, he wasn’t always just a brainless cartoon villain like RT turned him into. And his anger towards the protagonists was kinda… justified considering he trusted them from the beginning and they took that trust and abused it.
I really think it’s foolish to just follow whatever team rwby says. But that’s my opinion.
I’ve MISSED this. I love the way you blend humor and seriousness in your videos and PLEASE ROUGH IT UP
omg omg omg, I was wondering if you could talk about "Angel's Friends" because I feel like no one really talks about it at all.
In universe it made sense but it was still really cheap.
you commenting on Twiins Iink and Judgemental Critter makes me so happy cause yea people who want RWBY to be better are treated like shit
They are actually pretty positive I think the only creator who just negative for the gun of it is Adel Aka
(He also should have known about having all of the fairgame teases before killing Clover off would show)
The issue isn't just that they aren't part of the minority groups, it's that the writing of it was bad.
I would like someone to analyze the show for what it is & not what they made up in their mind for once.
"It's all a mess." why do you think there are so many fan made RWBY rewrites
With the RWBY racism, colorism, writing, animation and visual lack of passion, representation and effort, I'm not here for it
We all keep watching this show hoping it will get better.
