  • Still on Anglesey and are going to view Trwyn Du Lighthouse.
On the way you pass through Beaumaris with its Castle. This is also the place where you can opt for a boat trip out to Puffin Island, passing close to Trwyn Du Lighthouse.
If you carry on by road you come to Penmon Priory etc where there is a graveyard full of interesting headstones. Lighthouse Keepers and Ship wreck victims etc are burried here. There is a toll road down to the Lighthouse, where there is also a cafe.
The Lighthouse isn't open to the Public, but can be viewed quite close.
For Holiday information, try this site:

The boat trips go from Beaumaris Pier.

No, that was just my notes, I kept journals which hopefully may become a book/books? Thanks anyway. Take care.

I bet that kitchen was quite toasty with the range on (assuming it ran on coal). Love those curved doors too.

Coal, back in the day, another item that they would have loaded by hand.

Thanks for yet another fine video, Peter. I believe the bell has by now been done away with and replaced by a modern foghorn. That's a shame.

Thank you very much Jack, I'm not even sure if the modern fog horn is still there anymore. If anybody knows for certain, please feel free to enlighten us. Thanks again and stay safe.

What is most interesting is the bridge that connected the lighthouse with the shore, now with modern technologies, everything is different.

Thank you very much. Yes I thought of that bridge as a smart idea, at times we seem to be going backwards when going forwards. Stay safe.

What did lighthouse keepers do during their day? Operation and maintenance? Did they have to keep watch or to be 'on call' or around in case something happened? I get the impression from these videos that they often worked in teams, was that the norm? Did they work shifts? Was flogging ever a thing? (joke) Did they spend a lot of time drunk or did they read / study? Was there a lighthouse keeper subculture? Were they always chatting on the radio, like truckers? It just seem like a fascinating, parallel reality from the past.

Hi,Most jobs were done before mid day. But when on watch there were engines etc to make sure were working ok. The olden day Keepers would have been doing loads more work. Brass to polish. When radios came into service there was a general chat for a short while when testing in the mornings. You listened in on the distress frequency plus somebody was on watch all the time 24/7 365 days of the year. Cheers and take care

The Tower Rocks out to sea were also similar, but this was what the Keepers dealt with until the Helicopters and helipads were brought in.
