    ERROR NOTICE "Paul and George only, went to “ The Innie” better known as The Liverpool Institute and now LIPA , John went to Quarry Bank High School and subsequently the Art School when older, which was right next door to The Institute." Many thanks to Nehpets Yollom for pointing out my error. Please take notice! 😀

      That's fantastic, many thanks for your comment. It certainly took a lot of time to put in all those captions, but I'm satisfied with the result. I'm not sure if this is going to be one of my most clicked on videos but I'm very encouraged by the positive words. We'll see how it goes.

      Thanks, I have not had many comments on that video, I put a lot of work into it! I love the view from the top of the Anglican Cathedral, it's quite remarkable, all the things you can see. On a very clear day you can see even further! I tried to keep the informaion concise. Many thanks for your positive feedback, it gives me great encouragement!

    We are so excited to go visit Liverpool this August! Thanks for all the great ideas... this will be a great reference for us as we plan our trip! Ian loves cities because of their buildings and architecture, so your videos are so helpful. Cheers! XX Dara

      Thanks, I'm very glad you are coming to Liverpool. It's a very special and unusual place, not without its problems and downsides, but there are many reasons why it should be on top of the list of places to visit in Britain & Ireland.

    Another very informative video; I did not know we had so much interesting and varied architecture in our city. I would like to praise the clarity and detail of some of your images. Specifically, at about the 5:15 mark, you show the Oratory outside the Anglican Cathedral, but in front of the building (and also on the following ground view) can clearly be seen the Tracey Emin "sculpture" The Roman Standard, though its local name of Bird On A Stick is more descriptive

      You must have eyes like a hawk to pick it out. I had to go back to the original photograph and zoom right in to see it. Actually, I've never noticed it, though I've walked past many times. It's very tiny and cost 60,000 pounds. I'm going to do a post in the community section with the photos showing the extremely tiny sculpture, which takes up about 6 pixels I think! I'm going to bring my zoom lens and get a close up next time I'm passing! Many thanks!

      @@AidanEyewitness £60000 ? For a ten foot high pole with a (possibly) life size sculpture of a robin at the end? You and I are in the wrong business. I think the only connection it has to Rome is something to do with an emperor and his new clothes

      @@AidanEyewitness Just a suggestion for a future video, inspired by your idea of illustrating The Roman Standard (aka Bird On A Stick) .... before all the revisionists start removing them from Liverpool, and I guess they would target Manchester also, why not compile a video of all the monuments, statues and sculptures around the city. There are the obvious ones, The Beatles, Billy Fury, Ken Dodd, etc, but there are also many less-well-known ones of either individuals or generic subjects such as the military figures in St. John's Gardens.

    Like to see industrial building being repurposed for residential use. I've always thought that people should be housed in the centre of things, where they have easy access to cultural attractions, shopping, and work. It makes a city vibrant.

      @AidanEyewitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is what they are trying to do in Liverpool and many other cities. The Albert Dock in Liverpool is one great example. Unfortunately, there are still some beautiful buildings in Liverpool that are standing empty and neglected, as the local economy is unable to support the renovation.

    The Three Graces was the landmark sought by ships making it back to Liverpool in WWII, not the 'Dome of Home', get it right. Anyone interested in architecture should know that the city contains more listed buildings than any city outside London. The Anglican Cathedral itself is one of the world's biggest, holds world records for its massive bells, and its organ. It is the greatest neo-gothic building in the world designed by the man who gave us the iconic phone box and Battersea Power Station as well.

    • @AidanEyewitness
      @AidanEyewitness  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All great points, however, I have definitely seen the following information: "Sailors returning to Liverpool knew they were home when they saw the dome of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on the hilltop of New Brighton, hence the name 'The Dome of Home''" The Liver Building is 3 miles from the mouth of the Mersey, the Dome is less than a mile, high up, and close to Rock Lighthouse, which was used for navigation then. If you can refer me to any definitive information, I'd be very interested to see it. Many thanks.

    Excellent video again, Aiden. Some great views from the tower of the Cathedral. But I did not see you highlight the Philharmonic Pub on Hope Street. Sacrilege! Is the glass roof of Lime Street Station visible from there? How about Otterspool Promenade? Also, when you mentioned the Liverpool Institute, it was Paul McCartney and George Harrison who went there. John Lennon went to my Alma Mater, Quarry Bank HIgh School. Cheers, Ian

      That video has not done so well in terms of viewing numbers, though I am still happy with it and I love the views. I was only featuring landmarks that are visible from the tower, and the Phil is hidden. I feature it in my Beatles locations video. Sorry about the error. I will put an apology and correction. I’m very pleased to receive your positive feedback. Many thanks and I’ll be doing another video from Liverpool soon.

    Great job covering such a large number of landmarks in such a short period. I wasn't aware of the beautiful Georgian architecture in Liverpool until I watched a period drama a while back and was curious as to where the "London" scenes were really filmed. Such a shame to see beautiful building in a derelict state. Hopefully they will find good uses for them.

    • @AidanEyewitness

      I got the idea for the theme as I wanted to take a dusk clip over the city centre to use as a possible background. But when I was there, I had the idea of taking a large number of landmarks. You only have to walk a few steps around the top of the tower. If parts of Liverpool centre were in London, they would be affluent, expensive, fully restored, all buildings renovated and in use. There is a great imbalance between London and the South East and other parts of the country. Sorry you didn't know many of the answers!

      Sorry about that. I think some local knowledge is needed. I think after you have visited and know more about the history, you should score more. The aim is to help people to find out more about the history of the city.

      My mother took me to Liverpool when I was a small child and it left big impression on me. I'm all for exploring new cities and I'm planning one on Leeds, which I hardly know but my daughter is at university there now. By the way, by way of thanks for your support for what I'm doing, I have a thank you gift. I'd need your postal address to send it to you by mail. Apologies for the error. No matter how hard I try, errors creep in. I have no fact checker, other than viewers and then it's took late as I can't change a video once uploaded. I've added an error notice in a pinned comment. Many thanks.
