Dina, please don’t take it on/off! With meds like these, consistency and regularity is so so important for the meds to work. Your body needs to get used to it. Sometimes you won’t even see the effects until after taking it for a few weeks/months but please persist. A few days is simply not enough to judge the effects of these medications. Sometimes taking it on/off might even make your symptoms work, especially missing doses here and there. I think the best thing would to take it regularly, 3 times a day, same time every day for at least 3 months and at the end, then judge how you feel/the effects.

It took me a while to get diagnosed as well because I kept having doubts about having adhd and I was worried that I was just lazy and had no motivation and that it was my fault
Also, yes, adhd medication is also amazing for binge eating disorder!!! I had that too and drastically reduced. It’s not a “cure” but it’s one of the best medications for bingeing (which is dopamine hit for us adhders”

***Binge Eating*** It's been a year since I've been diagnosed & medicated and it's been one of the absolute best years health-wise(mental aand physical). Everything you've expressed about binge eating and your experience with adhd resonates soooo strongly! Up until a year ago, eating felt like the equivalent of getting on a bike with no breaks, & all of a sudden you're full speed ahead, thrilled, until you inevitably crash... but now, the metaphorical bike has breaks and little side mirrors too lol.
I know many people on ADHD medication take melatonin at night because of the impact on sleep. Love you so much and appreciate you sharing such a personal journey. You are amazing, do whatever is best for you x
Thank you for sharing your first week experience with ADHD medication. It's definitely helping. Seeing how focused you are and not manic and scattered is lovely. You'll figure out the best times during the day to take the medication and still have good nights rest 👍
It will take weeks on medication to get the full effect, medication has so many side effects and hopefully you’re not gonna use it to curb your appetite because that’s not a good idea Dina.
So happy that this may be something that helps you feel better. It's great that you're using this experience to document the process not only for yourself, but also to help others start the conversion if they're experiencing similar symptoms. x
4 mins of this video and it makes me feel that I’m on the right path! Looking at ADHD diagnosis for myself as I have similar issues. Be interesting to see how you get on with the meds! Especially happy about the binge eating and sugar cravings. I’m realising it’s also part of adhd! I also don’t like going back to places after a few weeks of not being able to keep up and end up leaving things but slowly changing that. Thanks for sharing Dina xx
Hey Dina, I also take adhd meds and have been for over a year now. I know it's temping to be in control of the med taking times and have it when you think is best but I found it a lot better when I take mine when it's recommended. By the way I didn't see proper results until 1 month of consistently taking them on time. Glad your documenting your journey. Hope everything works our for your benefit and your familes inshallah. 🥰
As a therapist that has worked with psychiatric providers in the past, I absolutely saw the increased focus but 3x a day is a lot for a medication. Best of luck on your journey.
This video made me really happy for you Dina. Seeing that you are finding this way for you to manage your life and emotional well-being is so lovely. I truly hope this medication will work well for you!
This show why you NEED to take the medication as directed (2 or 3 times a day) for some time, to actually see a difference. By taking it like you do (whenever YOU think its good to take it) you 'confuse' the body, and this medication is not like a Paracetamol that you take for pain, and the pain is gone in 30 minutes. Most meds for 'disorders' like ADHD works over time, and to see if it is for you, you HAVE to follow the instruction you have been given, or you will never know if it can help you. Atomoxetine would probebly work best for you. It is different than all other ADHD medication, and its worth asking your GP for it... unless she or he already given it to you... but it is a REGULAR medication; not one you take when you 'feel you need it'.
You might be a bit sensitive so don't take any meds later than 1 or 2pm unless you know you're going to have a really long day. It takes a almost a full week for your body to get used to the changes from the meds, and when you take it everyday its like you said @9:06 it still in your system a bit the next day. Remember to drink lots of water! Great video!

You should always take medications as prescribed. Once you commit to taking antipsychotics then you should not teeter totter as it may mess with your symptoms even more.
Thanks Dina, that was actually really useful. It is noticeable when you're talking on your medication and not. You are a little more calmer in your speech on your medication and a little more focused, not being distracted by your environment or side-thoughts. I'm going to go on medication in the near future I think and your comments around eating are very positive for me who's been an impulsive eater literally the whole of my life. If i start taking these meds and that stops, I will be both relieved and incredibly pissed off
Dina, I’m so happy for you. I hope you find the right treatment. I have adhd as well, and the first type of medication worsened my anxiety (methylphenidate). 3 weeks later was prescribed Elvanse, and it was so much better. I have been taking them for 3 months now and it has changed my life. Everyone around me notice the change. I’m so much more productive and focused. it has changed my life for the better. I hope you find the right medication and dosage, just remember for some, it takes some time to adjust. ♥️
I totally relate ! I have 3 kiddos, and with my loud thoughts I would get SO overwhelmed and snappy. It’s been day and night, and my kiddos have even been listening better to a calmer me 😭 I don’t dread bedtimes and mornings! I also eat to eat, not because I’m drawn to it and to make myself happy
Hi Dina! I hope you see this as I believe it's quite important for you to read. I am also talking from experience as a person with the same personality type as you (INFP-T). We sometimes get diagnosed as ADHD as we have a brain that is constantly thinking and wondering about different things and different possibilities to any sort of outcome to a situation. We have tendencies to be hyperactive and quite impulsive. Honestly Dina I would urge you more to look into your personality type and study it alot more, especially the small little quirks and nuances of yourself because I definitely believe you would relate. There's ways we can hone our personality type to allow us to function like "normal" humans but in actuality we aren't normal and we are the most unique personality type (subjectively speaking) by unique I don't mean it in a way where I am looking down on other personality types, we are just very different and have different ways of perceiving information. I urge you to read/watch TH-cam videos about INFPs and how we can hone these "disadvantages" and make it into a positive to turn our life around. Thanks for reading if you made it this far!
Dina, the meds don't necessarily "cure" you but it helps you control yourself better. Like how you said you felt like interupting, but were able to do it less than you used to. Depending on what meds you are taking it can affect your appetite. So with your history I would make sure your doctor knows about this and makes sure it doesn't negatively affect you. Even if you can't I can see the progress and it reminds me of when I started taking meds. I figured out I had adhd at 20. Since you are having sleep issues your doc might want to try extended release which is one pill in the morning only. Also sleep, diet, stress, etc can make the meds feel less effective. When I am on my period the meds have nearly no affect. It works better with a solid schedule. Don't feel bad that pills seem to make the difference we couldn't ourselves. Our brains are wired differently and it is not our fault. And apparently they just found out is a gene mutation. The pills make up the difference. We don't expect diabetic people to make their own insulin. Adhd pills are to us what insulin is to a diabetic. So many of the things you describe in this video are the same for me like housework exhausting you. Check how long those pills are supposed to last and depending on that talk to your doctor about not taking the third dose late or at all if it affects your sleep. I am so happy this is helping you. I suggest do lots of research and read other peoples experiences. Check out the r/adhd subreddit you will find other people are very similar to you.
Thanks for sharing your journey with us and this video has helped as I’m looking into getting a diagnosis for adhd as I’ve been researching for a while about it and your video talking about if the medication is working has helped ❤️
I would recommend really researching and taking the medicine for as long as prescribed. If the meds are for ADHD you’re obviously taking a stimulant. You’re talking about not sleeping, not wanting to eat…it’s not supposed to be a cure all…
Take the 2 day ones but dont take the third one if you dont need it. If you need to be alert and focused and awake for hours after 9pm then take it if not then the first 2 are enough. No need to give yourself insomnia when you dont need to be awake and focused anyway. Ive been taking adhd meds for yrs (adderall). Yes it suppresses your appetite and btw youre the one that made me realize that without adderall i totally binge without control and i only realize what i did when i wake up sick the next morning and vomit. I dont even realize how much im eating until i become sick. I didnt realize it had anything to do with adhd
Food is a VERY easy way to get dopamine which is something ADHD brains lack significantly, so many people with ADHD struggle with binge eating bc their brain is always like "AHHH GIVE ME DOPAMINE!!!" When you take your meds, these excessive cravings calm down because your brain can maintain the bit of dopamine it produces better :)
I am a lot like you. This adhd is a twin for us. It took me three weeks to adjust to my adhd meds before the shortage. Now, tonight is the first night back on Adderall. I feel the hunger pains less. My thoughts are clearer; however, three weeks is my minimum for my behaviors to balance themselves out.
Thank you so much for sharing! I'm going through diagnostics for ADHD currently. I'm 34, female. I really hope I will have some good effects of the medication.
The weird thing that you're talking about, it seems like RSD. Rejection sensitivity dysphoria is quite the thing with ADHD. For me, meds are totally worth it just because I can now not over think and just do things I stopped myself from before.
I was diagnosed with ADHD two years ago and have been on Elvanse since. It's so funny, I've been following you since I was a teenager, but me and you were both diagnosed as adults after having kids already!
So depending on the chemical compound of your medication, meaning if it has an amphetamine in it then you will have insomnia. I take 50 mg a day of Vyvanse and I take it right after I eat in the morning. This way it’s out of my system by the end of the day. Yeah, you forget to eat because you aren’t hungry. Personally I have hypoglycemia so if I don’t eat I can faint and get a massive headache. So I have to keep snacks around me so I remember to eat. However, I’m overweight by 50 lbs right now so it obvs didn’t affect my weight. LoL And it takes a few weeks like someone else said. My first week I was running high.. but now I’m just able to focus. I do need to have music or a podcast going in the background to assuage the other side of my brain. That’s the issue with ADHD, we try to use both sides of our brain at the same time. I do still have those moments where I’m unable to hold my comments in a conversation and it’s hard not to over talk. But I’m working on that. It’s not a magic pill. You have to see what works with your body.
@zic_trips ON INSTAGRAM SELLS GOOD STUFF I have to say, I have done so much research on alternative medications. I live in Los Angeles so I’ve tried various CBDs and THCs with no long term help but the munchies. I looked into Ayahuasca, MD controlled Molly, and microdosing Shrooms. But I’m too scared to try any of these. LoL
Used to watch u years ago and really enjoyed ur videos when u still wore your head scarf only come and had to think for a while who u are your great ! I start mine on Tuesday so excited
I've suffered from binge eating for 20 years, I've tried clinics, everything... then to my surprise I was diagnosed with severe adhd and... maybe... I don't know... I'm afraid to take medication...
Do it girl! Disordered eating is super common in people with ADHD because food (especially sweets) is a very easy way to get dopamine, which is a key thing our brains lack. ADHD meds help with this because it lets us maintain the lil bit of dopamine we produce, and regulates our emotions better (just like what Dina was experiencing)! ADHD medication is also nice in the sense that if you don't like it, you can just stop and try another dose or type, so there's nothing to fear :)
@@co_co_chantal My life is hell, since binge eating I can no longer work and I now have an intestinal blockage. Rationally I know I shouldn't do it, but it happens. So having recently been diagnosed, everything I had done up to now was wrong. Or what if I tried good coffee?
Ughhh I've had a blockage before due to other health problems and it's AWFUL, I'm sorry you're going through that rn 😓 Treating your ADHD will almost certainly help treat your binge eating! Some people *do* self medicate with strong coffee, but it's much more intense than medication, has an inconsistent "dosage", and doesn't last nearly as long as one tablet (especially compared to XR medication which is only taken once a day in the morning)! I can't actually drink coffee at all bc it gives me panic attacks, but I can very happily take my ADHD medication and it actually makes me calmer 👏 Since you have a diagnosis, I would definitely suggest just chatting with your doctor about trying medication-- you can even start with just taking a child's dose and slowly up the dose until you're at a place where the medication is helpful 😊 Alongside medication, therapy is also very helpful for learning coping strategies to deal with your ADHD (and by extension, binge eating). If you support from others with ADHD, I really found a lot of help on the r/ADHD forum on Reddit 💛
Yup I’m in the same boat girls, binge eating/boredom/irritability/racing thoughts , but dina these stimulants shouldn’t be taken at night (plz talk to your doc) here in US they prescribe us morning dosage or afternoon for folks who have more severe symptoms
loved the honest real documentation of your experience, sometimes we don't follow the instructions as the medical providers set them and that's fair and allows for us to understand and process the journey, I have a feeling that information out here on the internet doesn't reflect this reality. Hope you've continued to see and feel the good effects of the medication
I wonder if your binge eating was triggered by anxiety and feeling out of control due to your ADHD? I’m so glad it’s helping you, been a follower from the beginning and I hope Insha’allah you feel better 💛
Dina if sleeping is an issue ask your psych for slow release like concerta xl which is what I take. I take one tablet in the morning and that's it all day.
I can say that because I am high potential / gifted, and some of the things you describe about yourself are really similar to what I am feeling too! And ADHD can be a part of the high potential. Just like hypersensitivity and many other things… Try to check it with a psychologist 😘
This is a very interesting topic, D! Thanks for sharing your experience. Do you find that it’s easier to focus on tasks? Like studying? I find that I have a very difficult time with a wandering mind when trying to focus on something.
Dina, Yesterday my gp put me on the wait list to speak to a professional about adhd as I have a lot of signs of it and my medication isn’t fully helping so it suggests I have more than anxiety and depression. Do you have any advice for me?
I’m so curious what your ADHD medication is! I and my daughter both have ADHD and I’ve never heard of a medication for it that you take more than twice a day.
Since ADHD medication is so individual, some doctors will start with the IR version of the medication if there's one available since it's much faster to leave the system if that medication isn't working out and they want to pivot to another one! Dina is likely taking Concerta/Ritalin (methylphenidate) since that's one of the most common meds available in IR form in the UK.
Well done dina, glad the pills are working Alhamdulillah....pls go easy in yourself though. Love watching your vlogs, their just so real and relatable. Love you girl. ❤
Dina where did you get your diagnosis from is there anywhere you would recommend other than psychiatry uk? Their waiting list is long and in fact I think they've removed their option for private adult ADHD treatment from their list at the moment 😭
Half way through the video and can see you're already becoming addicted to the first feeling. Just like any drug.. you get use to it and chase the high you first felt. The fact you are waiting for it to kick in and are aware says that you are wanting to feel something from it.
These need to build up consistently in your brain to take their effect. Darling you’re really not helping yourself by screwing around with dosage.. it’s not like a tummy ache pill ✌️
You must take regular drug holidays or your medication will be ineffective .you build up a resistance. I’ve gained 20 kg, have high blood pressure and heart rate I have to monitor this constantly and control with blood pressure medication. Have one ecg every year.
Dina please give the meds at least 30 days to settle in and help regulate in your body. Also, try to take each tablet at the same time each day. It really helps with the effectiveness of the medication. You can do this!!!
Hey Dina! Be easy on yourself! Give it 2 weeks for the medication to kick in, don’t analyse each day too much and just go with the flow!
Good luck :)

You are thinking of anti depressants, adhd meds are fine to take on and off. They only work when you take them, they dont build up in your system.
Totally agree. You need 2 weeks if you really want to see the results
ADHD meds are not like that. Ideally, you do toggle on and off to reduce dependency.

Thank you for sharing your journey with us 🧡🧡 I’m sure it’ll benefit lots of people who also struggle with the same issues
Psychotherapy improved my communication a big deal then medications made it even better
Thank you so much for sharing! I'm going through diagnostics for ADHD currently. I'm 34, female. I really hope I will have some good effects of the medication.
Any update hun? I'm 35 and looking in to going private
Be easy on yourself and your family, these medications take many weeks to take full effect
LoL
And it takes a few weeks like someone else said.
It can take approximately three to seven days to become effective and four to six weeks to reach full effectiveness.
loved the honest real documentation of your experience, sometimes we don't follow the instructions as the medical providers set them and that's fair and allows for us to understand and process the journey, I have a feeling that information out here on the internet doesn't reflect this reality. Hope you've continued to see and feel the good effects of the medication
Instead of meds, try transcendental meditation - twice a day . Morning and afternoon
Thanks for being so honest with us.. great video to see the ups and down of it all.
I just started this medication too. It has made me very productive but super hyper. But it's just the beginning.
What is the name of your adhd medication as I’m trying to decide which is best for binge eating and weight loss?
May Allah heal you Dina sis, and all those living with any condition 💕
Ayyy Dinaaaaaaaaa! I hope all goes well with you insha'Allah
I Was on Ritalin then concerta.... what are you taking???
Omggg plssss tell us about you and sids therapy session!!! I‘m sooo interested in that!!!
I wonder if your binge eating was triggered by anxiety and feeling out of control due to your ADHD? I’m so glad it’s helping you, been a follower from the beginning and I hope Insha’allah you feel better 💛
I have suffered from adhd and terrible binge eating. Adderall xr has started to help ease both situations. Now, time for CBT with my therapist.
Hi Dina, are you taking Elvanse three times a day? X
Dina if sleeping is an issue ask your psych for slow release like concerta xl which is what I take. I take one tablet in the morning and that's it all day.
im on day 2 and i just watched this entire video
Dina it’s not only about adhd. You are a gifted person. I can feel that. Please get it checked xx
I can say that because I am high potential / gifted, and some of the things you describe about yourself are really similar to what I am feeling too!
And ADHD can be a part of the high potential. Just like hypersensitivity and many other things…
Try to check it with a psychologist 😘
I also struggle with binge eating, gor anyone readibg this you are not alone!!💖
Thank you so much for sharing Dina x
Baby this type of medication doesn’t work like that. It will take a while for it to take effect. Khair InshAllah
Also consider meditating daily 🧡
First.
Hope your well Dina. Enjoy your vlogs
What was the medication called and what were the dosage?
Can we please have an update with how you’re getting on with the medication? I’m about to start my adhd meds x
Dina pls try ruqyah and tahajjud, you will be more at peace In Sha Allah
This is a very interesting topic, D! Thanks for sharing your experience. Do you find that it’s easier to focus on tasks? Like studying? I find that I have a very difficult time with a wandering mind when trying to focus on something.
Thank you for sharing, so interesting, best of luck with the meds
I couldn't get through the video, I was trying to listen for which med did you take? I'm pre med but might start
I too starting ADHD medication this week. The one I was put on is not a stimulant. So my side effects are quite the opposite.💊
Hope u get well soon dear Dina. Have u tried Pranic Healing?
Dina when I went on adhd meds my doctor told me it does curve your appetite and is used as a medication for people with binge eating disorder
Thank for sharing this. I am glad this medication worked for you.. coz that's not always the case..
Dina, Yesterday my gp put me on the wait list to speak to a professional about adhd as I have a lot of signs of it and my medication isn’t fully helping so it suggests I have more than anxiety and depression. Do you have any advice for me?
Which medication was it, specifically?
I’m so curious what your ADHD medication is! I and my daughter both have ADHD and I’ve never heard of a medication for it that you take more than twice a day.
Since ADHD medication is so individual, some doctors will start with the IR version of the medication if there's one available since it's much faster to leave the system if that medication isn't working out and they want to pivot to another one! Dina is likely taking Concerta/Ritalin (methylphenidate) since that's one of the most common meds available in IR form in the UK.
Okay a lot of the ‘symptoms’ you describe In this video I have so I’m wondering if I also have ADHD 😅
Well this makess me want to try the medication..what is it's name? All those things you mentioned i cojld truely relate!! Thank you Dina!
Well done dina, glad the pills are working Alhamdulillah....pls go easy in yourself though. Love watching your vlogs, their just so real and relatable. Love you girl. ❤
i have a call with the gp soon to discuss starting medication following my alt diagnosis of adhd! this ideo couldn’t have come at a bette time
Dina where did you get your diagnosis from is there anywhere you would recommend other than psychiatry uk? Their waiting list is long and in fact I think they've removed their option for private adult ADHD treatment from their list at the moment 😭
Would love another update after a month or so of you being on it :)
ive been having a hard time getting vyvanse so they gaveme adderall today I was 3 weeks no medicine
Ritalin did not work for me, so now i am on dexamfetamine. You have to give it a while tho, your body neds to get used to it
The meds take about 2 weeks to kick in ..
Did she actually say what medication she’s taking. ?
Getting tested for ADHD this month by specialist team
Half way through the video and can see you're already becoming addicted to the first feeling. Just like any drug.. you get use to it and chase the high you first felt. The fact you are waiting for it to kick in and are aware says that you are wanting to feel something from it.
These need to build up consistently in your brain to take their effect. Darling you’re really not helping yourself by screwing around with dosage.. it’s not like a tummy ache pill ✌️
Interesting! Smart to document your journey
Just wondering what medication you are on?
You must take regular drug holidays or your medication will be ineffective .you build up a resistance. I’ve gained 20 kg, have high blood pressure and heart rate I have to monitor this constantly and control with blood pressure medication. Have one ecg every year.
You may initially loose weight but you will rebound and binge eat heavily when off it
What medication do you take? ❤
ADHD me too 🙌🏻 I liked your hype though 😌I lost apatite too
