I am now on day three of taking Concerta 18MG, the extended-release version. The first day I felt a bit more nervous, but it was mild. Now, on day three, I was tired when I woke up and didn't feel like doing anything. After I took a tablet, I felt happy again and enthusiastic about life. I've been diagnosed with the combined type ADHD. So far, I'm very happy with the results. I realized that it took so much effort to stay motivated because I could sense that something internally was off. This medication allows me to perform much better.
I started Concerta 18MG yesterday. Took about two hours until I started to really notice it. My mind was silent and my anxiety disappeared. Everything felt slow but in a good way.. like I had more control. My focus increased and my energy was consistently high. When I woke up the today (second day) I had a headache and my mouth felt dry. I popped a tablet and within 30 mins I had energy that I usually don't have. I was also feeling neutral, I typically feel low and anxious. Feeling of high motivation kicked in after about an hour. I noticed that my focus isn't has crazy as yesterday and everything just feels neutral now. I am not anxious or jumpy or don't even have negative thoughts which I regularly did up until yesterday. I just feel so calm but alert. I am able to go outside without the feeling of self consciousness and anxiety which I got so used to I thought that's just how it was. Doing mundane things feels so straightforward and easy right now. I don't have to convince myself to do things anymore. So odd but very nice.
You are so lucky second day today I’m so sleepy but can’t sleep. Like my body wants me to be awake even when I’m sleepy .. like I’m floating in the air . Like I’m here but I’m not really
I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD and am starting on 18mg Concerta XL, should arrive tomorrow. Can’t say I’m not a little exited and apprehensive at the same time to be honest.
Thanks for sharing! I'm 21 and was diagnosed just a few weeks ago. It's quite life changing and it feels like I'm rediscovering myself. Also on concerta xl 18mg :)
Yay! Hey there Concerta XL 18mg buddy! Finding out you have ADHD really is life changing - I hope that your diagnosis brings you some comfort and understanding of yourself. Glad you managed to catch it whilst you are still young! You have an exciting and rich life ahead :)
Hi there my fellow adhd'er I've just starting taking this medication 2 month ago I'm on 27mg now but it's effecting me sleeping to much so got to try a instant release methylphenidate see how that goes good luck on your journey!
Hey there John! Glad you found the channel to help you feel you're not alone :) Good luck with the slow release - as you can see from my journey, it hasn't affected my sleep negatively, but I probably slept too much before!
Hey there Jessie :) I'm so glad my video has comforted you and reassured you about starting the medication, it means a lot to me to know that I have helped people! Thank you for your support of my channel! Good luck on your medication journey - I hope it goes well. Em x
Add some fish oil capsules into your vitamin mix. It helps the brain. Plus, fish burps are fun. I’m also a headphone/earbuds person. I usually listen to k-pop since I don’t speak Korean, therefore I have no idea what they’re saying hence it doesn’t distract me. :)
Ah, I wish I could! Alas, I am a vegetarian. Maybe I can track down some vegetarian Omega 3? K-pop is a great idea! Sometimes I go for French pop from the 1960s if I'm feeling fancy.
@GoADHDGo Whoa, I'm finding my people! Since college (20 years ago! oy...) I've listened to J-Rock/J-Pop. And I've listened to specifically the same band for the whole time (Do As Infinity, if you're interested). While studying, writing papers, walking around campus... I've basically listened to the same songs for decades. But I'm finally starting to learn some Japanese and starting to pick up on words and phrases I know... so maybe it's time to try some K-Pop or French Pop! Also, half the time I just have earbuds in without listening to anything. It helps make everything quieter and less distracting.
I am on 54mg. I feel it kick in first thing and then I have no obvious symptoms from the medication. I am able to focus on tedious tasks and see them through which without the medication is incredibly difficult. The focus element is the big noticeable improvement for me using this medication. I don’t like to be dependent on medication so I do have breaks from using it. Especially if I just want to relax and unwind and don’t have any work or tasks to undertake. Obviously taking a stimulant when you want to wind down is not the smartest thing to do. If you struggle sleeping you can try getting your doses split into smaller increments and take your first dose as soon as you wake up. You can always skip the second dose if it’s holding you, plus you will avoid sleep issues. Exercising before bed is a good tip to get any adrenaline out of your system. I find I have increased energy so exercise is really beneficial, providing you have the medical sign off to exercise and no underlying health issues. Always speak to a professional and don’t rely on forums for your advice. Each individual is different. There is no one size fits all. Be sensible and do NOT abuse this medication. Your in for a hell of a time if you do. I know someone who abused the drug and they struggled with withdrawal syndrome for over a year as it badly effected their dopamine chemistry. It went completely out of whack. Always take as prescribed.
I am not diagnosed but I can totally relate to not being able to listen to music because of the lyrics are so distracting …UNLESS it’s Jazz! Jazz music got me through some tough days at uni when I was really struggling
Hi, I was diagnosed a year ago with combined type, today is my first day with Concerta, thank you for sharing your perspectives, I was worried about taking for the first time. 😊
I've been diagnosed since 1st grade, I'm not medicated, never really took it as I thought it was what they wanted. I'm 37 and asking for help today if they are open. I cant take it anymore. Should I ask about this medication?
Be carefully when mixing SSRI blockers with stimulants and make sure your doc is up to date with all negative effects cuz mixing those is very not recommended it's one of the main warning in the label for stimulants cuz it can cause excessive serotonin in your body which can cause sudden death or very bad side effects.
Thank you for your concern - Serotonin Syndrome is a real risk and I think this is a good comment to draw people's attention to! My doctor is aware of all my current medication, and we are monitoring my side-effects closely. I am hoping that, in time, I will be able to reduce/come off my SSRIs as my ADHD meds improve my mental health.
Diagnosed as a kid and went through loads of different before ending ul on ritalin. Stopped taking them for years and now want to sort myself out as fatigued 24/7 and was prescribed these last year but not taken them yet as i read the side effects and my brain cant get passed it and scared to take them lol
Have you tried listening to ambient music while working, e.g. Brian Eno's albums? I also find regular music waaay too distracting. Even classical and jazz aren't great for me, but brown noise and ambient music work wonders.
That may very well be true! I think I'm just de-sensitised to the scariness of anti-depressants because I have been taking them so long (unfortunately.)!
The dogs or cute to look at but you’re more beautiful too look at. Plus I just increased my dose from 36 milligrams to 54 milligrams I start tomorrow and I’m a late bloomer I was about 50 years old when I was diagnosed ADHD I’m now 54 years old 36 milligrams wasn’t giving me the upper feeling anymore plus I couldn’t stay focused on things that long before ℹ wondering off
Hi there :) I hope you get your meds sorted soon! I'm sure that you can work with your doctor to find something to help you cope with the symptoms; you have spent so much of your life struggling, you deserve some good news! Em x
Got assesed yesterday and blewq the needed criteria for afhd out of the water. I was ptescribed concerta after being on wellbutrin for a year. Will there be a difference?
Hi MikesAlton4003. I don't know much about Wellburtrin, but if it works for you (or if it doesn't!) I'd love to hear about your experiences. I hope it is going well. Em x
@adhdemily well since you asked 💁♂️🙋♂️ the concerta changed a lot more about me then I thought it would. I didn't think I was a smart person for my whole life until I started it. I can work consistent 9 hours a day and ny attention span and energy and motivation AND ability to think cery clearly with no distractions was a fresh change. Also, the white noise blaring in my mind mixed with 20 different train of thoughts happening was completely shut off and my brain was calmed. Have you felt that adhd innatentive type almost is like your mind having cognitive tunnel vision? That left too. The down side is, I'm on 72mg and another 36 later in the day because I'm so tolerant

Be careful with that - because you can become addicted easily if you enjoy the feeling.

Hi I’m on 54 mg daily now and whilst I can’t see a huge difference my partner says I’m much more relaxed and easier to be around.
Thanks for sharing!

I do the same with French Pop from the 60's.

I enjoy deep house vibes for working

Ooo interesting! I love a recommendation. I'll give it a go :)
True, rain sounds work wonders for me.
I’m starting this week! 😅😁
Taking antidepressants should be scarier than adhd meds.
That may very well be true!
I think I'm just de-sensitised to the scariness of anti-depressants because I have been taking them so long (unfortunately.)!
Did you end up increasing your dosage?
Hi Paul, yes I did - I am currently on 36mg. You can see the effects in some of my other vlogs :) Em x
Okay! Wow you replied so fast :) Today is my first day taking 27mg and your vlogs are a great companion.@@adhdemily -Paul
