- A video about if music producers(or beatmakers) should upload beats to DistroKid? There's several platforms you can upload to like Beatstars, Soundcloud, Bandzoogle, Rocbattle.com, etc. but none of them get you on streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, etc.). Passive income is important as well as exposure. Hence why I'm stressing that producers use other means of promoting yourself (besides sending blind emails to artist who don't care about you!). So heres my two questions. 1. Should you upload the beats with tags to prevent downloads and the beat being stolen by ppl who might want to sing on it? ( there's was to rip music from streaming sites unfortunately) and my 2nd Question. If a beat you have on distrokid which gets sent out to many streaming platforms and then that same beat gets sold on beatstars, do you have to take your beat down from streaming platforms? Since the completed record is allowed to be uploaded under the artist name which you would then get your producer share.

The timing of this video is crazy because lately I’ve been thinking about shutting down beat stars and just dropping all my beats on distrokid instead. I’m paying $20 a month to be in BeatStars and I sold only 2 beats in the platform since aug of 2018. I’m sure I could make more if I put more effort into it but at the end of the day I want my legacy to be a guy who makes and puts out dope music rather than a producer doing beat leases to whomever.
sounds like u should be working harder on your music and over all promo. get a twitter and interact with artist around your level who are similiar to your style. Work and build with the. As they go up, you o up. I been making beats for 8-9 years and the connections i made from social media have gotten me most of my major placements. You gotta put yourself out there. Just making beats and posting them isnt enough

Distrokid works very well....main thing is promoting your work once it's on the platforms is only the beginning. Give yourself a budget on advertising etc.

That’s funny .. I just uploaded my first beat to DistroKid last week. (Currently still waiting for it) I been questioning it for awhile because I wanted to get my music out to folks .. I’ve heard stories of people getting beats stolen by other producers on TH-cam. I’ve personally had someone ripped my beats from SoundCloud.

I appreciate the video but a few things. 1, you're wrong about distrokid not taking ANY money at all. Distrokid takes 20% of your TH-cam money that they collect for you. Secondly, I was watching a Pay Us No Mind video where he was in distrokid and selected hip hop as the category. Then when he strolled down its clear they removed the TH-cam money option altogether. So what's the situation with this? And lastly, what was your bad experience with CD Baby? You are literally the first bad experience I've heard of, and I just almost went with them to release my music. Now I'm back to trying figure out what distributor is best for me. What do you think? someone said they use Audium to handle content id, and Audium stopped collecting for hip-hop and edm because of "too much sample use"....so that's wack, I guess you have to select a different genre
Appreciate the knowledge your dropping, but I have a question I was that I was hoping to get your feedback on: if I lease beats non-exclusively on beat stars, can I also distribute those beats on distrokid, given that I own the publishing rights? Is there any reason to not have both?

Making music is so rewarding, uploading it for other people to hear is also important.
I’ve done very little, but it’s very disappointing to put yourself out there and get no interest. (of course you’ve got to promote yourself!)

This is just my experience, beatstars is good if you want to collab with other producers. I found it preposterous to pay 20 a month and then have to pay way more than that for anyone to see it. That being said I met someone on there that I formed a group with. I have had distrokid for a year now and have made more from streaming than i ever did on beatstars. I got the 40 dollar plan this year so I could submit to playlists. I submitted one myself, scheduled releases till june every week and after that spotify picked them for me. Well worth it in my opinion and hands down the best way to go. I quit beatstars after a couple months I will not be quitting distrokid unless they somehow screw everything up. But I don't see that happening. Ps. Network on ig I have found several rappers and singers i appreciate and now work with. When the projects are done straight to distrokid they will be going. It truly is a game changer. ✌💜😁👊

@@MrMakemusicmike It might be a good idea. I keep the free version but I never look at anymore. I quit uploading to it quiet a while ago. Though I don't charge for beats up front. I get it on the back end with the royalties now. It works better for everyone and has expanded my reach greatly and has allowed me to actually build real relationships. 💯✊✌

I just finished my distrokid account a couple of hours ago
I started distrokid in December 2019 it was easy I only have 1 song upload to test how easy it would be to get started also I'm still in the process of recovering from a major health issue lol so I do plan on uploading more to distrokid soon 👍🏾🙏🏾👍🏾
You can't expect one song to do amazing when there sre millions of songs uploaded everyday. Stay consistent and you'll see results.

Also the one song I did was just a test it was a earlier 2019 instrumental I made I know how the entire process of distrokid works from that 1 song I had to resubmit my album cover and name of the track 3 times to get it right so that 1 track was really a test run nothing serious yet

I was thinking about using SongTrust as well have you seen any type of income from posting your beats? Do you post your beats and then it monetizes everything for you such as from streaming services and artist TH-cam videos that use your beats?
@@mickeyj6055 Yes. It takes around a year for your songs to be registered. I use Distrokid and SongTrust. They're pretty good.
I went through CD Baby and then distrokid creeped up on me lol and yea it’s so much better especially wait time for your music to upload is way faster

I seen someone complain lastvideo about an album he reloaded to distrokid being yanked off. I asked him if he read the terms of services. Of course he didn't and deleted the comment.
@@AveMcree LOL....I've been with DistroKid for a couple years and I never had any issues, and I love the fact that I can pay a yearly fee and release as much music as I want to when I want to with no hassle. I mean, it doesn't make sense to use CD Baby or TuneCore....and that's just my opinion. I'm sure folks will argue that point.

Distrokid distributes music to more than 100 different platforms. You should check and which is in your location before pulling the trigger.

Been on DistroKid for about 6 months and uploaded my first commercial album in October 2019! I have to say, very easy process and was fast! Even my stuff is here on TH-cam! (Also why I have the artist checkmark) I went for the $35 a year plan though, cause "why not?" lol.

I have Distrokid, and they charge $4.95 for every beat you upload, plus 20% of the earnings from the collected content ID . That's a lot! Not its $20 bucks only
