About the copyright part: What if I am not a US citizen? Do I still write it under the US copyright office? Or is there like a different office for every country and I should write it there? Does it matter? Thanks :)
@Camilo Ortega There are countries that doesn't have any. Like you are living in the usa on legal status and you are an artist, you can't register your song to copyright office in the usa?

Anytime Money is Involved You Better Believe the Greedy sobs will Be Finding ways to get their Greedy Hands in It! Not like the Good Ole Days at Sun Label or Others that were just about Music! You Have Big Music Executives that Don't even Like Music Getting Rich!
So right but norm only do we love performing But now we have to become our own record company and it’s hard to promote yourself is it not? Thanks for the tip!
I have LITERALLY took a course that included a copyright lesson, and I didn't understand it like I did watching this video. You made such an order in all the mess
@Enterfly oh yeah that's super facts ya ll have an alternative tho? I have so much music everytime I go to pick a distributor i get discouraged it's like picking a pimp lol
@Enterfly there is a difference between a promoter and a distributor. sad thing is music distribution still costs and is fairly hard to do your self. slapping your song on youtube doesnt make you a distributor. you cant just put your song on spotify, the best playlists on there are basically invite only and the others cost.
You might have trouble with the application process if you don't have US documentation/bank account/ etc. I suggest affiliating with the PRO of the country you reside first before establishing an overseas PRO.
Serious Question: So once i upload my music, i have to pay an annual fee to keep it online? Is there anyway to just do a single fee to have it permanently up?
🦉 That's Distrokid that you pay $20 annually but you can release as many tracks as you like. If you decide to stop paying yearly, DistroKid gives artists the option to pay $29.99 USD per single or $49.99 USD per album to keep your songs on the streaming platforms indefinitely. If you release a lot of songs DistroKid may be a good choice. CDBaby's fees are higher but there's no annual fee. It may be the better deal for fewer releases. If you just want to have your music publicly available without selling it, consider mp3 hosting sites like SoundCloud or TH-cam, hosting them on your own website, or peer-to-peer file sharing (BitTorrent, Napster, Limewire).

It's empowering stuff my guy, so just know that it's really appreciated and you're really appreciated. Thank you so much for stuff like this, and keep it coming!!
Edit: Some of you asked why I was banned from Distrokid so I made a new video explaining the whole tragic sequence of events: th-cam.com/video/eYUknhwd1Y8/w-d-xo.html ...You'll be shocked 🤯
Who's life has been changed by this ultimate guide? I really tried to break it down for you guys so there is absolutely no confusion as to what you need to do. Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be answering questions for the next 3 hours! Ask away!
I was frying my brain yesterday trying to figure this all out--and here we are, the next morning, you uploaded THIS. THANK YOU. The timing is an epic synchronicity. Liked, Subbed, 'Bell'd'. Thank you, brother.
That's what I LOVE to hear! Thank you for the great comment!
I’m a long time songwriter recording artist thank you for this great video!
I have CDbaby pro. The cool thing about it is they register my songs with Soundexchange and BMI. Takes a lot of my work off my shoulders. Worth checking into to. I have an account with Distrokid too. Just learning the ins and outs. Not really impressed with them.
I was just wondering this. Thanks!
I love the tone and clarity. Thank you.
About the copyright part:
What if I am not a US citizen? Do I still write it under the US copyright office? Or is there like a different office for every country and I should write it there? Does it matter?
Thanks :)
@Camilo Ortega There are countries that doesn't have any. Like you are living in the usa on legal status and you are an artist, you can't register your song to copyright office in the usa?
Awesome video. I just finished a music business program in Canada, but it's great to hear these things from an American perspective.
That's awesome! Glad you were able to get both!
I am a long time musician and I own a recording studio and all the information that you just gave me is awesome. I did release one album with LANDR DISTRIBUTION And it didn't do well. But now I am going back to tune core. All the steps you mentioned in your video helped me out a lot thank you so much.
Wow, an actually effective video in 2022 TH-cam 👏🏼👏🏼
Good Job Sir, Thank you!
This is PERFECT! I love how he's sour about distrokid but he's still honest. Gives everyone the benefit of the doubt. Good qualities brotha 👍 liked/subscribed !!
You are appreciated and Superfantastic. I really appreciate your humility. God bless you
What's the lowest amount of $$$ needed for ALL that?
Wow. You rocked this overview. And a PDF to boot! Thank you so much!
This was extremely helpful! Quick question, what about acquiring a mechanical license for a cover you’ve written?
Which organization handles mechanical licenses? And sync licensing?
Everything I was looking for in one easy video....thank you Ryan
O.M.G!!! Why does the music industry have to be SOOOOOO ridiculously DIFFICULT lol! Sad that we can't just make music and get paid. Thank you for this video though.
So right but norm only do we love performing
But now we have to become our own record company and it’s hard to promote yourself is it not? Thanks for the tip!
You answered all of my questions in this video 📹. Thank you 😊 🙏🏽
Ok, he has it for Distrokid!😂
I have LITERALLY took a course that included a copyright lesson, and I didn't understand it like I did watching this video. You made such an order in all the mess
Oh, my god...so in addition to a distributor, i need to sign up for like 5 more services?? Geez
@Enterfly elaborate bro!
@Enterfly oh yeah that's super facts ya ll have an alternative tho? I have so much music everytime I go to pick a distributor i get discouraged it's like picking a pimp lol
@Enterfly thanks yeah that would be dope but I think spotify and tidal, I know tidal doesnt let you directly upload without one of those distributors
@Enterfly how can you be your own distributor?
@Enterfly there is a difference between a promoter and a distributor. sad thing is music distribution still costs and is fairly hard to do your self. slapping your song on youtube doesnt make you a distributor. you cant just put your song on spotify, the best playlists on there are basically invite only and the others cost.
Just about the most valuable resource I've ever come across on YT. Thanks a ton, bro
URGENT question: Is it smart to apply for BMI when you're outside the US?
up
@@heyguntur dying to know hehe
You might have trouble with the application process if you don't have US documentation/bank account/ etc.
I suggest affiliating with the PRO of the country you reside first before establishing an overseas PRO.
@@IndieMusicAcademy have u any videos talking about the steps to properly when the artist release songs? I'm still confused
You're a gifted teacher. Thanks!!
Serious Question:
So once i upload my music, i have to pay an annual fee to keep it online?
Bandcamp is also a really good place to upload your music free of charge, and you can have it on the platform for as long as you want.
I paid distro kid 20 about 2 years ago and never paid again and all my music is still up and they won't take it down seems fishy to me
@@eidanlopez3554 do u own ur masters?
@@sirrichter5336 yea
Wow you just made clear the things that has been confusing all the while in this video.... thank you so much...
