      I would love to have to have the 48'' light to compare with the micmol aqua air AA 1200 series that I perched! Right now the micmol light is an awesome light! Setting it up was a little time consuming but the sunsets are beautiful! I will be making a video of this soon

    Bentley,
    Thank you so much for sharing all of this. Your excitement/passion on this keeps me me motivated to keep pressing on through my own on-going, everlasting battle with algae. I'm convinced I don't have nearly enough faster growing plants to out compete it. So, that's my mission now. Just waiting for them to take off and show me the results I'm hoping to see! I'm totally using your steep sunrise settings on my 90. 2 lights! We'll see!
    Well done man! Again, much appreciated! One day, I'd like to get in touch for some plants and/or an exchange or something as I'm local.

      Certainly glad to help and once I get plants regrown (I just did a swap meet, so I'm pretty cleaned out) - I'd be happy to work out a time to have you come over and we can get you set up! Algae plagues us all, I still get my fair share, so just be diligent and you'll get it in check!

    Now Fluval needs to make a automated Smart C02 System that links up and works with the Fluval 3.0 Plant Light that will feed C02 based on the light settings and intensity. How cool would that be?

I'm hoping LEDs across the full length. And maybe auto-recovery from a power outage although in practice power outages are rare for me and I've always been around (i.e. not on vacation) for them.

    You recommend to turn the blue light down low. Do you have any evidence that low blue light limits algae growth? We know that plants use blue and red light for growth and don't have much use for white light. Plus algae have adapted to all growing conditions.

    I have a 75 gal heavily planted tank. Should get one or 2 Fluval 3.0 for it ? I’m concerned about the spread since they lay flat on the top of the tank as well as just one may not be enough light for my tank. What’s your opinion ? Thanks.

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say this depends on the light demands of the plants in your tank. If you have mostly a really easy plants that typically only need lower medium light, you could get one of the hanging kits and raise it up off of the glass of the tank and help with the spread and use only a single light. If you have some higher demand plants like some of the cool rotolas or you know any of the red plants that aren't super simple, then I would probably look again two lights and just spreading it out and maybe determining whether you need to have them at slightly less power and conjunction or at full power for both of them the whole time

      @BentleyPascoe  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a single 48" light on my guppy mansion, which is a 5 foot tank. You will have a little dimmer areas at the edges, if you're fine with that like I am, it does a great job. If you want high light on every inch of your tank, you'll need two lights.

    I want to program a siesta as a means to reduce algae(brown diatom in particular). So the intensity gradually builds automatically between two periods in Pro mode? No need to manually create sunrise and sunset intervals for each hour before/after full intensity?

    Thank you for your reviews. I started with your AquaSky review, asked for advice for a 75g (which I don't have yet), which you kindly dispensed. THEN I WATCHED THIS. Holy crap. I currently have a 36g corner bow that is using two 24" Current lights. I turn on moonlight at 4:00 AM then full daylight when I feed a half hour later, then shut off when I go to work at 7:30 AM. I turn the lights back on on my lunch hour at about 1:45 PM then at 6:00 PM turn the moonlight on for a 1/2 and hour then off. This was a bit tiresome as sometimes I'd forget something at some point. I didn't want to get into timers - that's just me. I was looking into the Satellite Pro, but found the programming cumbersome and there was no way to program a siesta. Now with this, I don't have to shut the lights totally off but program to dim and avoid smacking the fish awake with the light. What a blessing.
    I just ordered the 48" Fluval Plant 3.0 from Co-op as my local independent only had 36". I can't wait to program this !!!!
    Thank you Bentley for some of the most informative videos I've run across.

    They do have much more LED's per 48" than my yescom...but my yescom was $40..with 156 LED vs Fluval's 210 something. I used to have the exact numbers..forgot them. Two Yescoms are say $90 with tax?..maybe three aree $130,$140?...People have some options. But, also cant say the budget light has as nice a color as Fluval. Never seen a Fluval used in person.
    Just something for people to think about. If it's the best you want and no fuss..go Fluval. I guess.
    I doubt that even brighter LED's..as sold for indoor plant growers..have as nice a spectrum. But..for mega tanks..?

    I feel as if I did not give you enough information up front. It is a fluval spec 3. I am using the fluval plant nano. I have been using your "Day sim red late" bur getting lots of algae. Seeing the tank is only about 10" tall, should I be reducing the total power from 100% of white down to 50% max. It is a pretty heavily planted tank and I am using CO2. 3. Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled within your mobile device settings.
      4. Make sure that Location Services is turned on in your mobile device settings.
      5. If you are encountering a connection issue while adding the light unit to the FluvalSmart app, ensure you first select the white box next to the light’s name, and then the red circle with the white check mark at the bottom of your screen.
      6. If you have experienced a power failure or have unplugged the light unit, you must reconnect the light with your mobile device to re-establish the correct clock time as the light unit will otherwise default to midnight.
      7. If you see several Bluetooth devices appearing on your device, try turning them off and reconnecting to your light unit.
      8. If you are being prompted for a password or PIN# for Bluetooth connection, enter 000000 (six zeros).
      9. Try connecting another mobile device to your LED to determine if the issue lies with your mobile device or its operating system. Although many mobile devices have been tested with the FluvalSmart App, it is possible that newer operating systems are not yet compatible.
      10. If none of the above tips help, uninstall the app from your mobile device and then reinstall the most current version available from Google Play or the App Store.

    I'm running a fluval Spec III. Only about 10" tall. I've been using your day sim for about a month. LOTS of green stringy algae. Seeing the tank is shallow, should I not be using these high white settings? Whats the highest value I should use? 75%? 50%? Less?
    I was thinking I would use the "Day Sim Red Late", and cutting all the values in half. Not going over 50% white. Would you agree?

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would start at 50. Remove all the algae you can and monitor for two weeks. If you're getting less, we're on the right track. From there if still getting algae go down to 40 and monitor. This will be a process, but we can dial it in.

    Hi I just got the 36" fluval plant 3.0 led fixture and was wonder what % brightness do you recommend I should have my lights at for a 25 inch deep tank? its a 45 gallon tall. 36 inches wide, 25 inches tall, 13 inches wide. Tropical community tank with sand substrate with low-med light plants. Swords/Crypts/Roseafolia, java fern. I have some small vals I would like to grow too.

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the tank is well established I would try 100% whites at your max, 80-85% red and 5-10% blue at Max. If using pro mode, slowly work toward those or try any of the steep sunrise/sunset or day Sim settings, which ever looks most appealing to you. Even curve is also good just to monitor algae at first.

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll go with the basics here: Because the light from the sun is a spectrum of color, we use various colored LEDs to provide a similar spectrum to our plants. Pink light is reflected off red plants, but they absorb a lot of the whites and some blue. Green plants will pull in that pink hue as well as whites. It's all about trying to create a more balanced light spectrum similar to nature.

This is what I would use as a starter point monitor for algae. Make sure that you're not getting excessive amounts of algae. A little bit of glass algae or surface dust. Algae is okay but we just want to see too much like hair allergies or black beard, algae, etc. If we're seeing big outbreaks of algae, we want to dial the light down to 80% all the whites, 75% pink, 10% blue. A single 48" covers my 60" long 21" front to back guppy mansion pretty well, if you can suspend them, to get them off the tank, that will do well. Greetings, Bentley. I'm late to the party, only just found your channel. This has awesome information, I am your newest subscriber.
    I'm looking to upgrade my lighting but not sure exactly what I'm going to need. My tank is home built at 75 inches long and maximum water depth of 15 inches between water surface and the top of the substrate. My current light, a cheap Chinese LED is just not cutting it, Java Fern and Java Moss growing well on driftwood near the surface but swords, vallisinaria, tiger lotus lily etc planted in the substrate all struggling despite root tabs, ferts and CO2.
    Looking at the tank behind you it appears very similar in size to mine?
    The Fluval 3.0 comes in 3 sizes, the largest is 48 inches, I assume that is what you have on your tank? Is that one 48 inch light going to be sufficient for my 6 ft. 3 inch tank? My other option is buying two 3 foot lights to cover the whole length.
    If I am right you are using a 4 foot Fluval 3.0 on a 6 foot tank, does that provide sufficient light?
    I would appreciate your opinion on this. I'll buy the two 3 foot lights if necessary but if I can get away with the one 4 foot that will be considerably cheaper.
