Thank you! I’ve been running day sim setting for 2 weeks since I got my Nano 3.0. My tank is 15” deep and I’m running max light for only 2 hours with an 8 hour light period. After you make an adjustment, how long do you wait before you change the light settings again without it causing plant growth issues? Thank you! Great video

I’m starting with your auto mode suggestion in video 1 for my 20g long and then want to use your shallow day sim. I previously have a T5 and didn’t want to overwhelm the plants going to this amazing LED. Random question: do you use covers for your tanks? I have a cover with this black plastic hinge that blocks the light. I’m looking to replace it but not sure if you use something specific that I can get for my 20g long
@@jenniferlee818 many of my tanks use DIY kids made from twin-wall polycarbonate found at a hardware store for green houses. Aquarium co-op and Jadren Aquatics both have good videos on it.

Thank you Mr. Bentley, exactly what I needed. I have the Fluval Plant LED 3.0. You explained ProMode perfectly. I get up early and stay busy all day, relax at night. Pro mode gives me that flexibility. I get to enjoy my aquarium in morning and in the evening with a split option. I like your examples for plant lighting. Thank you for taking the time to explain this amazing aquarium plant grow LED. The AP is really nice too.
I use day sim red late setting on all of my lights and absolutely love it. I especially like the sunrise and sun setting time periods. Fluval needs to recognize and add your settings into auto mode.
How does the red day sim red late effect the plants growth?

Outstanding series!! Subscribed. You covered all aspects of this light and the app FAR better than Fluval has. I learned a LOT from watching your series and experimenting with my Fluval Plant Nano on my UNS 40C (16.9 gallon cube). It's proving to be an fantastic light with amazing (not to mention FUN to tweak) capabilities - ESPECIALLY considering its price point.
FWIW: I'm an old-time pro, returning to the hobby after a 20-year hiatus from the hobby. The hobby has (unfortunately) shrunk substantially since I was in the business in my 20's, from 1981-1989. My last hobby tank was a 70g African cichlid tank which was torn down in about 2001. While quite a bit bit smaller, the hobby has indeed matured with lots of new technology and improved techniques. No news to you - lighting being chief among those changes. Over the years since I last had a tank, every-so-often I'd research current state-of-the-art tech and techniques for a few weeks to keep myself up-to-date. I've had the "itch" for a long time now (once infected, always infected!) and last week I finally decided it was time to "scratch" that itch and jump back in. Jump back in I have and I'm having an absolute BLAST!! Starting with the Fluval Plant Nano: it's a geek-like-me's dream come true: powerful, affordable, and best of all extremely controllable via the very user-friendly Android app.
After leaving the aquarium industry, I got a degree and became an an IT guy: i.e uber geek. I HEAVILY research EVERYTHING I buy. I watch countless videos and read countless reviews before I ever spend a dime - the hunt is half the fun! For me, your series sold this light (Fluval should send you a few as I'm sure I'm far from the only person you sold.) Your videos are balanced between being very informative and with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. It's clear to see you love what you're doing and that's super contagious!! Keep on doing what you're doing so well. IMHO you're a great ambassador for this wonderfully FUN, sometimes frustrating / challenging (which keeps it from ever being boring!) and educational hobby!

I have the NICREW ClassicLED and I'm getting the Fluval Plant 3.0 tomorrow. While the NICREW isn't a bad light, not the biggest fan of how yellow it makes my tank look, plus I've noticed that I've had more algae growth than ever with it. That's even after dimming and readjusting my lighting times. My Finnex Stingray 2 which broke was better then the NICREW with algae.
thanks. I've learned allot from your videos. I just set up a 20g tall with a Tidal 75. I'll be getting the Fluval 3.0 light in a couple weeks. not one plant yet .. I like your input on keeping the blue & the intensity low to start with. so I don't get blasted with algae before I get some higher plant life going.

I did watch again 😂 I see the tremendous flexibility with pro. I just messed around with the settings in pro and I’ll say one thing......takes patience 😏 I’m fighting BBA and have made some headway (ok a little) but think this may really help give me strongest light for shorter periods but allow me to see my fish throughout the day. Thanks!!

I’d love to see Fluval make next gen of these lights with WIFI. Bluetooth isn’t reliable enough and allows for potentially catastrophic failure, if there’s power outage, particularly if you’re also using CO2.

Extremely helpful as always. I love this light. The customization is almost endless. My plants look great although I do seem to battle green spot algae. I have the blue at less than 5%but the spot algae is a real nuisance.
The colours not reflected are far more important (photosynthesis relies on red and blue light). You probably need to research your use of red and white elements rather than the blue.
I'm glad I found this little trilogy. I ordered the light along with s CO2 regulator today. Yep I'm taking it up a notch. I've kept fish for decades now planted tanks on and off and it's just time to step it up a notch.
One thing I've recently done, is convert a holiday cactus into a floating aquatic plant. Now I want to know what it can do under different conditions like decent light or good light with CO2.

I was just wondering if you could/would do another tutorial explaining any adjustments you might make between a CO2 and a non-CO2 tank and include recommendations for timing the CO2 period around the light settings please mate. I use your day sim red late setting, but shift everything forward by two hours to suit me and added 4 percent blue at night as I have a few fish who swim around at night, thank you for getting me started with your settings.

I would start with the shallow day sim for that size and slowly increase as needed if you don't run into excessive algae
Great vid as per usual and a novel subject. Very useful for future ref! The Fluval plant 3.0 looks amazing! Just concerned for a low tech setup and algae. What intensity of light would you reach as a maximum for a low tech tank? Some people have told me 50% should be max while others have said up to 65%. Thanks.
It depends entirely on the tank height, shallower tanks need less light, taller need more
This has been pretty standard stuff for saltwater lights except marine lights you can set weather settings to work in tandem with water pumps to have thunderstorm effects and a percentage or cloud cover during the day as well it can be set to mimic the moon fazes for fish and coral so this is basic stuff if you have been into saltwater
I just realized that you can add more light points. OMG Pro Mode just got better!
Great video, and I use your settings as a baseline. I’m noticing I’m not getting the reds in my Ludwigia brevipes or ovalis that I would like. Do I need more CO2 or another Fluval 3.0 on my 40 breeder? Dosing EI ferts and injecting CO2. Thanks Bentley! Danny
How much co2 currently? If you're already 30-35ppm CO2 I would guess it's more light needed.
Hi Bentley, I got the Fluval 3.0 last month and love it. Thank you for your information. I have a 55 gallon dirted tank with a lot of plants. I programmed the Fluval with your day sim parameters and just noticed bearded algae on the plants. I turned down the blue settings to hopefully curb the algae. Anything else you recommend with the light that I should adjust to help control the algae? Thanks again.
You might adjust it so total hours if light are less as it adjusts
Hello Bentley! I recently switched to this light from Aqualantis easy LED 2 and Im using your present. However I have a lot of demanding red plants that started growing fast, but are growing green. Do you think it would be a good idea to use both Fluval + Aqualantis on my 110l tank? If so, should I start the Aqualantis only on the 100% peak? Thanks!

Great video! I recently set up a Fluval 32.5 tank that has the 750mm aquasky light. After two weeks I’m starting to get excessive algae growth, and the pro mode that comes on the app has consistently high blue light. After watching your video I lowered the blue light way down. There is a good quantity of plants, growth is great, but now some algae is growing on the leaves. Also, the pro setting on the app for the light has an hour or so 50% reduction in the afternoon. Would love your recommendations for the tank. I’m usually up around 9, gone 12-5, and back home and up until about 10. Would love your recommendations. Thanks 😊
I haven't tested the aquasky in general, but I would do something similar to my shallow day sim, set the green at the half as much as the pink in my day sim - see how that works for you!
Hello, thank you for sharing your experience and your settings! I’m very surprised we need to put so little blue light when we know that it’s an important part of photosynthetis. So I previously had actually my blue as high as red. Do you have info about this ?
This is based on experience for myself and several others where blue has been linked to higher algae rates

I just got this light! Loving the flexibility already. Anything you'd recommend for a lazy dry start in a 10 gallon growing pearl weed carpet? I'm just using 30% natural and cool light, with about as much red and 2% blue. What's really tripping me up is, I'm not really sure if I should change the settings drastically since there isn't any water in the aquarium yet.
You should be just fine where you're at, but if you see some growth struggles, up it by another 15% or so on the whites.
I remember hearing you talk about crypts versus stems about having or not having a steep sunrise/sunset but i can't seem to figure out which video it was. Can you clarify for me what you said about them so that I can use that to program my light? I used to keep mostly stems and now i keep mostly crypts so i would like to use the light setting that best suits them.
How tall is the tank?
I recently bought this light for a new 20 long. Recently as in last weekend :). I'm loving it so far, but I'm in a position where I want to watch the aquarium, no fish yet since it's cycling, all day. The aquarium is in my office, where I work from 7AM to 5PM. ThenI turn around and there is all my retro gear, my electronics workbench and 3D printer, so I'm often in here until 11 or 12 at night. This little setup doesn't need light for 17 hours. Pro mode though.... I'm thinking of simulating very dark cloudy periods during the day, still a little light, but nothing strong and then some brighter times around 50%, shallow tank, and trying to get the overall exposure lower that way. Taper to a little blue light the first two and last two hours, and maybe I can sustain this schedule. Or I'll fight algae and have to do something else, but pro mode sounds like a way to try and stretch my enjoyment time.

Things seem to be going well but now I’m interested in what would be your recommendation in a full light program for pro mode for a 55gal fish/planted tank to maximize my plant growth potential?

It depends 100% on the plants that are in the tank. I have a number of my tanks on my Day Sim, and they do great for plant growth. If you have very high demand plants like some of the red rotalas and similar finer leaf and or more aggressive growing plants, you might need something slightly different.

Yes, I've used it on several red plants in the past. If they are super high demand you may need more than one light (rotala blood red) for example

My question: I have two Fluval Plant 3.0 lights on a 40 gallon breeder tank (36Lx16Hx18D). If I am following your setting recommendations, do I compensate for having two lights instead of one?
(I have a hinged glass top which has the hinge in the middle. If I place one light in the middle of the tank, the 1"+ hinge blocks a portion of the light and creates a shadow. So I place one light in the middle of the back third and one light in the middle of the front third which creates a nice even light front to back.)
For the setup you're doing, yes, I would account for the fact that you have two lights. Now if you're going a fairly powerful setup where you have plants that like high light and you have a good amount of CO2, you can run them both pretty strong. But if you're not using CO2 and you need more medium or kind of just barely into highlight because the plants aren't that demanding, then I would look at something similar to my shallow setting on both lights or slightly higher than that.

If i have 180 litter planted tank without CO2, should i use the "Siesta Example Curve" or its better to take the values down a bit by 20%? it fills a little to strong... what would you recommend?
Pull them down to start and see how it works on your tank

Hi Bentley, I like your videos, always informative and straight to the point.
I have 2 questions for you. In the morning, I always get to leave quickly, I don't get to enjoy my fish before going to work. Do you think I can use your setting but shift it to later during the day to have your cycle end at 10 PM or 10:30 PM, I'm just wondering as the tank does receive sunlight during lg the day but it's pretty minimal.
2nd question:
I have a 190 gal who's 24" deep and also 24" tall. As per the canopy design, the lights are right above the water, do you think one row of light placed in the center of the tank is enough, or it would be better to add a second row of light to make sure it illuminates everywhere?
Q1. Absolutely! Especially if you don't have ambient light in the room, the fish will never know the difference really.
Q2. This depends on the light demand of the plants in the tank. I've had only a singular light on a 90 gallon and had success when I was dealing with mostly low light requirement plants like swords and upon aponogetons and things like that. If you're going to deal with some higher demand plants like some of the fast growing stems or you're trying to create a carpet, then I would opt for the second light in order to get enough light to supply to those types of plants.

Hi Bentley, I like your videos and tips. I like the Fluval 3.0 light. I copied your summer day set up. I have 10 gallons, using co2, not too many plants but slowly getting some, and algae. I decrease the white lights from 100% to 60% and decrease by 40% to others. Is that alright? Another is that your set up is yellowish, I like whitish color, can you suggest a clear setting? Thank you
If you want less yellow tone, reduce the warm white and pink, increase cool white and pure white. Basically you'll rely almost entirely on those two.

Thanks for sharing these settings, Bentley! I have couple questions: 1) I have 20 long tank fairly densely planted with mostly crypts and Nubia and have co2, and use your Red Late setting. Is that ok? 2) I know about starting the co2 30 minutes before sunset, but not sure what time to turn off. What time is considered sunset in your Red Late setting?
Turn co2 off when the sunset begins. As for day sim, use the shallow version. Normal day sim is likely too much light for a 20 long

I am starting a freshwater planted tank but might eventually move to a marine tank. Should I just start out with the Fluval Marine for my freshwater and are there any different suggestions on the settings or pretty the same setting suggestions you have here?
I would not use the marine light with freshwater, it will likely cause a lot of algae.

Promode is awesome. One issue i been having though, is accessing the profiles I have saved and exported. Not sure what's up there, got it to work once, and now can't seem to.
It does seem to have some trouble there, once I had mine reliably saved I just ported it around to my lights
My 12" tall x 12" wide x 39" long aquarium has quite a bit of yellow tones from the gravel to the petrified wood rocks. So I think the tank looks best with more cold and pure white, and less warm white (yellowish tone). Would there be any harm in pushing the warm light down and bumping up the cold/pure whites? For instance, I'm using your setting from a video where you suggest for shallow tanks setting the Pink at 50, Blue at 4 and Cold/Pure/Warm at 65. Would it hurt the plants to change that to maybe Cold/Pure at 75 and Warm to maybe 45 or even less, like 20. I guess the real question is do plants necessarily need the Warm white or will they do fine with just the cold/pure white?

Hi Bentley, good video, can you set your tank in automode an at the same time make a setting in pro-mode so you can try it, if it doesn,t work in prom mode you can go back to auto?

The light will remember both and when you swap mode to mode it will just pick up the setting for that mode you programmed. It's kinda cool that way!

They are more than aesthetic, they effect growth.
Would you happen to have a video on how to actually set the timer(s) start day > end day in pro mode by actually physically showing how it's done?

I would use the shallow Day Sim version on a 29 gallon given the plants that you're using

so i'm a bit stumped on how I should set my lights up and am wondering if possibly you could give some of your own input : I am getting ready to completely redo my scape. clown loaches, serpae tetra, bloodfin tetra, red flame sword plants, dwarf sagittaria, ludwigia peruensis.... with my work schedule lights turn on at 8pm and turn off at 6am. what would you recommend for a day cycle that will also draw out the reds in my fish as well as aid in the vibrancy of my plants? [I do not have injected CO2 and it's a 54 gallon corner bowfront]
I would use auto mode. Give yourself an hour long sunrise and sunset, then set daylight to something like:
Pink 85
Blue 10
Warm white 90
Pure white 100
Cool white 95
Monitor for algae for at least two weeks and tinker as necessary (too much algae, dial back 5% on each and monitor again as example)

I would start with standard day sim. If it has issues, shift to shallow.
I have a question regarding the pro mode and optimum time for plants. The last program you showed seems to only have about 4 or so hours of the light being at 100% I myself also enjoy the natural look of how the sun rises, peaks and sets. Is there a minimum time the lights need to be at 100% or does the slow ramp up and ramp down work well for plants?
Many of our plants don't need anywhere near as much light as we often think. If you have lower demand plants, you don't need a long period of high intensity. I would only do shorter ramps and longer high intensity in a high CO2 higher demand tank (lots of red plants for example)

I have a Juwel vision 450 ,with co2 and medium planted. Should 1 fluwel plant 3.0 be enough?
I believe so, especially if you can hang it a little to assist the light spread.
Bentley, Love the guild, have a question. How does one recall one of the saved as profile on the same fixture.

@@BentleyPascoe I do see the list of them all. but when i click on one, i do not see any change in the lighting, sees the fixture just stays on the last setting made. to get a change, i have to rebuild the setting and re-save it.
When setting up a full 24 hour cycle can weather affects be add to the mix?
Not in the schedule, you have to manually control them
I have a quick question. If I did a siesta time for my tanks but I add CO2 liquid ferts, in the morning, would that cause any issues?
