    Currently running a Planted 3.0 and a Aquasky 2.0 on my 75 gallon planted rainbow tank and I love it. The Planted 3.0 is set across the center of the tank to illuminate the whole tank while the Aquasky is pushed all the way to the front to help highlight the color of the fish as well as give a little extra "oomph" to my carpet of dwarf sag

    I bought two Aquasky 2 lights shortly after they came out. While I do wish they had a power button and such on the light itself they work great, grow plants and can take a dunking. Good lights!

    I have a 35 watt aquasky on my 75 gallon. I like it very much. I chose to use a timer instead of the auto feature. The timer allows me to manually turn the light on without using the app.

    This video made me look at my tanks in a new “light.” I’m using solely the aquasky save for one 3.0 nano and a built in light with a kit tank. My Java fern and anubias are looking great under the aquasky lights and one of my anubias is even about to flower! Love this light for the money savings.

    Thank you for this. Exactly the info I needed & found this just when I needed it.
    I've been using one for more than 6 months & I can confirm that the lack of a manual button can be annoying... BUT extremely rarely if you are using the auto or pro mode every day. It has only bothered me 2 times, so it's no big deal. I love the light for its ease of use & manageability. I set this thing & forgot about it.
    However, I am just starting to experiment with aquatic plants. I am a very experienced gardener, but I've always kept that separate from fishkeeping. Some people made it seem so difficult that it turned me off from trying it... until recently. So far, I have some ferns, mosses, anubias & a couple of swords - all of which seem to be thriving with this light. I'm going to change them to your settings & see how that change goes.
    I'm so glad I found this. I'm going to watch the ultimate guide next. Thank you. Your reviews are always thorough & your advice is usually easy enough for someone with no experience to follow.

    I think it's to low to the top off the tank because it doesn't cover the depth of the tank properly front to back. however if it was higher off the top the light would spread further. and there's actually no extension for that.but it is a very good light otherwise. Informative and well thought out review Mr. Pascoe. I opted for the 48” Fluval Plant 3.0 a couple months back when it was time for a lighting upgrade mostly because I couldn’t fathom living without a physical on/off button (Call me old school lol.) With that exception, the Aquasky would have completely met my needs. I’m glad you brought that point up during your review as I feel that even though the packaging specifies “app controlled light,” it could be easily overlooked/misinterpreted without careful scrutiny of product specifications/function. Thanks for all you do Bentley. All the details don’t matter to everyone, but each matters to someone. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend to all.

    Is this a decent light for a little bit taller tank? I have a 125 that I have crypts and Anubis’s etc in, low light plants. Or would the plant 3.0 work better?

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the case of a 125, even if you have really low light plants, you still probably want the flexibility in case you decide to add some different plants in the future so I would look at the plant and not the aqua sky. If you start with the aquas guy you might decide like hey, I want to add a couple of these plants and they need more light and then you end up needing to purchase a different light or an additional light and you'll be out spending more money than what you could have done in the first place.

I have a 1.5amp on my current Hygger. Would anyone be able to tell me what the power supply rating is on their unit, and it running a higher output power supply would that damage the light? Also, I have a 20” tall acrylic tank. I have Java, Crypts, lotus.

    RE: Green Light....Aren't the plants going to most utilize the spectra for photosynthesis as opposed to the spectra they reflect???🤔...that being Green??? In other words, your reds & yellow spectra will be utilized by the plants.

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you look into scientific analysis, specifically Michigan State University experiments, green light is not purely reflected, quite a lot of green light is used by plants. Only a relatively small amount of the green light they receive is transmitted through and reflected, the rest is utilized.

    I’ve gotten used to no power button, and the light is on auto/Pro mode so no issue at all.
    App has some cool thunderstorm, cloudy look programs that are hardly ever used.
    Probably only thing I’d change in the app are “+ -“ buttons instead of slider adjustments for auto and pro modes. Manual mode has those, but flawed being that there’s no numerical indicator to show exactly how low or high intensity you’re on.

    Hi Bentley, I bought a used Fluval light that has an old-fashioned control pad, not Bluetooth. I don't know whether it is Fluval plant or Aquasky. Since it doesn't have an on/off button on the light, should I assume it is Aquasky? Another question: for this type of old-fashioned control pad, is there a way to do a 24-hour ramp up and ramp down of the light intensity through the day? Finnex 24/7 allows that with just a remote pad. I wonder if I can do the same for this light.

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob, I'd had to know which version it is, if it has a remote, you can just set the light and then use a wifi timer, but typically only the app-controlled ones or the plant 2.0's optional controller allow for any ramp up and ramp down.

Although you don't use the storm modes, it would have been nice to see them in a demo in your review just so people who would be interested in this light could see what it actually looks like. the nicrew's thunderstorm mode is more of a flashbang to the fish than simulated lighting.

      The fish in that tank are somewhat skittish, I try not to freak them out, hence why no storm demo

      Depends on tank height, 40B size or shallower, I think you'd be fine with the Aquasky. Taller? Plant 3.0

    Hi! Thanks for this review. I just purchased an aquasky 2.0 for my 65 gallon tank (36"L x 25"H). I'm not looking to do an entirely planted tank, but wanted a few Java ferns and such, and the rest is artificial. I purchased the one meant for 24"-36" for $170, but it looks really tiny on my tank, and stretched to the limits. Should I have bought the 36"-48"? The CAD price is a bit different than your prices listed, but I guess "costs" are all part of the hobby.
    My other question that I can't seem to find an answer to is since this is run through an app on my phone through Bluetooth, does the phone have to be in proximity to the tank for the program to run? Or if I'm at work, it will still run since the program was saved?
    Thanks!

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  ปีที่แล้ว

      In general with any light you want the fixtures length which is usually shown as its minimum length to be as close to or dead on the widths of your tank. So in this case yes you would have wanted the 36-in to 48 inch model. As for the programming with Bluetooth, your phone doesn't have to stay by it. After you save the program, it will remember everything so long. Is it retains power. If the light loses power when it gets power back, it will assume that it is midnight aka zero hour and start its program from zero hour. However, you have it set up.

    I have this light on a 40 breeder and can agree. I don't have anything too demanding, but what's in there is very happy - there's an Indian Fern I'm gonna start charging rent, a solid & spreading grove of crypts, etc.
    Doesn't hurt to have my luck in purchasing/using it (I was/am a noob, more or less, & bought it cuz i recognized the brand) confirmed by Bentley though. Thanks Bentley :)

      Stingray is similar but less control. Visually Aquasky is more warm tones, and a little more power, but not much.

    Thanks for this video and the Ultimate series, I am starting a 240 tank with the Aquasky2, low level requirement plants and no co2. Would you recommend your auto or pro settings for starting it or as in the "Ultimate" series, it is recommended to start with -40% intensity and grow +10% every week or so? As wattage is so low, I do not know if makes sense to reduce it even more. And second question, could you provide a day simulator settings for the Aquasky similar to the one in the Ultimate guide? it is sooo cool I'd like to try but I would not now how the color patterns from the Plant version matches the Aquasky.

    • @BentleyPascoe

    Thanks for posting. So....you set it up for your 24 hour program, does the light unit "save" this or do you have to have the phone / tablet connected for it to work? If you turn the phone off will it keep going or stop? Thanks

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The light saves the program after you've done everything inside the app. The only thing that can mess with that is if you lose power it will forget what the current time is so the program will assume that once it has power that is zero hour or midnight and begin its program from there.

      Thank you! I am going for hornworth, Ludwigia, rotala and similar ones. I am only 9 months into the planted aquarium part of the hobby so still a bit new. I’ll try to look for low light plants. I like stems because I can propagate them easily and give them to friends and such. I had good luck with the stems I mentioned with a very cheap light that cost me 30 bucks here in Korea but once I am in the US I will consider a bigger investment as long it’s worth it. I will watch your planted review again!

    Big fan of these lights, I have five of them. One is running on a high tech carpeted tank. The tank is only 12" high, and I had to suspend the light in order to get a better spread, but Monte Carlo is growing beautifully for me. I totally agree that this would never work if the tank weren't so shallow. Have another running on a low tech tank full of crypts, Java fern and Bolbitis heudelotii and these low light plants do grow like crazy for me.
