Just having D’Angelo and Eric Clapton would’ve been amazing; But, to _also_ have Steve Gadd, Gene Lake, & Don Alias on Percussion, Marcus Miller on Bass, and David Sanborn on Sax… How did the stage not collapse from the weight of all that talent?
whenever the conversation of best live jazz performances comes up, this is the first one I mention. 2024 and I still come back to this! simply amazing.
The best music show ever to air. I would stay up late, late, late to watch it. David Sanborn had a true vision for music TV. Too bad the world didn't catch on. Love Sanborn & Friends.
That slap bas in David Sanborn’s solo is like when you’ve been hammering on a nail for half an hour and finally you hit it perfectly, and then its in that piece of wood, and its so perfect though you never thought you needed it
One of the dopest cover of Bill Withers’ “Use Me” by D’Angelo w/ David Sanborn & Friends! David Sanborn, Marcus Miller, Ricky Peterson, Dean Brown, Gene Lake, Steve Gadd, Don Alias & Eric Clapton. What friends!
revisiting this after D'Angelo's Verzuz performance. Can't get enough of my favorite artist covering my favorite Bill Withers tune with a legendary band. This video is priceless.
Wow!!! Then 'I' am SINFULLY BEHIND!!!!! As a loyal, dedicated, LIFELONG FAN of ALL THINGS Jazz / Soul / R&B... HOW could I not discover D'Angelo until 07/22/21??? Its absolutely inexplicable!!! But I will definitely be in D'ANGELO HEAVEN as I catch up!!! God bless the legendary Mr. Bill Withers for this Classic tune. And God bless D'Angelo & the many truly gifted musicians who joined him in this superb performance. 🙏♥️🇺🇲✌
Thanks for sharing this, D'Angelo's Father is a good friend of mine as well as an assistant Pastor of a church I used to attend. You have a great channel here!! FLOYD
IM DIGGIN' IT ALL!!! Then LORD HAVE MERCY... Here it comes! 3:27-3:32. Just five seconds... and I am under a magic spell. Covered in a blanket of chills. Captivated. Consumed. Body... heart... & soul. ♥️
@@saidmuhammadizzat4994 I would guess that that is DeAngelo's drummer. I'd think that D preferred that type of pocket on drums. A little more syncopated and slinky.
This is wonderful. Great song.. my fave version of it is by Esther Phillips. D'Angelo is a modern legend and his presence is sorely missed... I wish he would get his shit together and release that 3rd album already. THE GAME NEEDS YOU D'ANGELO.
brownztone's wife here. why does every thing on youtube become and arguement? d'angelo is the funkiest man alive and the band, of course, is killing... and did i mention d'angelo is easy on the eyes?
This man has a visceral delivery of soul whenever he sits down behind his keys. Not too many people could've pulled this song off, but he definitely could fill Bill's shoes, and make him proud.(Sanborn edge helps as well.)
HELL YEAH D! You straight took ownership of this. Bill has to be either mad hating or hella proud! 4:47 am and I'm jamming like nobody's business! Got my creative juices flowing now...getting ready to play right along with you! *@$*₩(€!

It must have we've had Jools Holland do the same thing in the UK for at least 20 years, he's a Jazz Pianist and all round legend.
I got to see David Sanborn in a smaller, more intimate auditorium ❤
I took a friend who never heard him. 🎷This lineup is the bomb!
D'Angelo always does a soul cover right. He did the song justice. = )
D doesnt just cover soul, Soul covers him.
Soulful tribute to Bill... and what a backing band!!!

Apparently there's a laserdisc run of this entire concert, limited release to Japan. I gotta have it!

Sincerely,
Male D'Angelo fans.
When you're on stage, unless you surrender to the moment, you're not telling the truth. I look for people that tell me the truth.

Great funk groove on one of the best groovin' songs of all time and it was almost over before I realized that Eric Clapton is in there! Great!
