That night they played EVERYTHING from High & Dry and I LOST IT... EVEN SWITCH 625... Phil & Vivian did Steve & Pete justice that night... 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
Still remember listening to this record for the first time in 1980. Law of primacy. This is such a standout song. Rick Allen’s long, winding drum fills, catchy chorus, growling rhythm guitars, background vocal assault. Can’t ask for anything better. They really had their own sound and style relative to their 2nd British Invasion counterparts. Younger, brighter, not as heavy as Judas Priest or Maiden. Sounds as fresh today as it did back then.
Willis and Clark - unbeatable. Def Leppard really didn't sound like anyone else except maybe a more melodic AC/DC. They had a really good sound. It proves you don't have to be The Who or Britpop to have Union Jacks all over the place.
Heard it on the radio and it blew me away, I still have the 45 (for those that don't know, that's known as a single with one song on each side, or if the band and/or record company wanted to be cheap and piss you off royally they included the same song that was on side A on side B).
Is that Pete Willis playing leads on this? The solo he plays here is different than the album but he really had the Michael Schenker lead licks happening on a few songs on that album!! Love it!!

My Favorite Def Leppard Song! Just saw them again Sep 4th 2011 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas! They are SO Talented! Def Leppard RockS!!! Much Better than the no talent garbage heard so often on the Radio!
this album changed my life. got the tape in 88 after hysteria. first heavy shit i listened to. cant touch the first two albums killer riffs great melodys and arrangements
I like this version more than the 'On Through The Night ' version. Great NWOBHM sound from 1979 when these guys were still teenagers. This is a great song. One or two of the songs from the first album remind me a little of UFO. To this day I still believe their first album to be their best. Thanks for posting this video.
Excellent live performance! The first two albums by Def Leppard were the best in my opinion. High and Dry is one of my all time favorite heavy metal albums
Love this! Never knew about this footage. To me, this DL at it's best. Melodic, hard rock but rawer than the stuff that would follow Pyromania, which to me ends the DL's best studio period, though I'm glad they got the fame and fortune they deserved.
I saw them 1st Album with Judas Priest 2nd time with Blackfoot Leppard opened the show 😮and blew Blackfoot off the stage. 3rd time Pyromania they HEADLINE and Krokus opened. WOW 🤯 all 3 times were AMAZING 🤩!!! 4th time Adrenalize wasn’t as good as the first three times. And I just saw them in Dallas and was OUTSTANDING! The boys still have the MAGIC 🤩🇬🇧🤩🇬🇧🤩recipe 🤩🇬🇧🤩🇮🇪😉😉
All I gotta say is thank God for the 80's! I mean their outfits are friggin out there! I know they grew up on the outlandish 70's rock and pop like David Bowie and T-Rex, but thankfully they eventually decided to let the music do the talking on stage instead of their outfits!
Thanks so much for posting this and what a great document of a brilliant and important NWOBHM band. Saw them live supporting AC/DC at Hammersmith in 1979 and just couldn't believe how young they were - but they absolutely rocked the place and got a brilliant reception. Although I like a lot of their later 'US-rock sound' material I still hanker back to the raw sound of teenage Leppard. Thanks again!
Gotta say, for its time and the technology available, quite good! Using cuts and zooms to mask that the band basically didn't move and add energy to the final product nicely done!
I love Phil but Pete was a major contributor the the bands success. "PYROMANIA" was co-written by Pete Willis. Phil played on the album and reaped the harvest of it's subsequent success.
Saw them on 9/11/81 in sunrise fl opening 4 Ozzy on the blizzard tour. Leppard just released High & Dry Album and I vaguely remember hearing rock brigade on K102 but didn't know who they were. They slayed that night as we sat or stood in row 2. During intermission I bought a High & Dry baseballl style t shirt and told my buddy Ozzy was in trouble tonight with this band opening like that. 1 hour later Randy Rhodes played a 20 min solo and put that theory to bed. To this day it's the best concert I ever saw live. That was a good 9/11 memory 20 years later not so much. To the early posts about this not being hard rock .. Dude this is awesome hard rock and they did sell out and went poppy in my opinion right after this album. Third Album was good but Night and HDry r far more ballzy. Lady Strange and the 1st album still my fav. After pyromania I moved on. Mutt Lange kills another 1

High & Dry is my favourite Def Leppard album and yes, they changed their sound after that but you can't deny the quality of Pyromania and Hysteria. As far as 80's pop metal goes they are unbeatable albums. After Hysteria the song writing went downhill and they became a "one or two good songs per album" band.
Saw them supporting ACDC in 1979 at Newcastle Mayfair when I was a youngster.....I am a massive fan of the brilliant guitarist they got rid of....no names need to be mentioned but he was/is brilliant.........

Mutt Lang(destroyer of rock bands) had his hand in turning them more pop as well.
