    I wasn’t planning on learning Chinese but then I started watching The Untamed on Netflix and after a few episodes I started to notice patterns and eventually I began to look up words etc and soon I had a super long vocab list and was even able to understand some stuff in interviews etc 😂 I got hooked and started learning it but I don’t have time at the moment.

    Due to my personal experience I can recommend for everyone the TV show 西游记 (Xīyóu jì) 1986 (25 episodes) + 1999 (17 additional episodes) with English subtitles. Chines language here is very well pronounced. Firstly I met with this classic masterpiece thirty years ago when I was five and just thanks to it I mastered my Chinese toning, pronunciation and listening really quickly.

      You are spot on. Just subbed to a channel showing them; they are way clearer to understand. Pepper pig is eaten here by the Little Fox lol. Xie xie ni. PS This channel even has Journey to the West. I am living in Guangzhou and have been here for almost ten years, but I only started getting serious just over a year OK.

    Another good one for basic to intermediate Chinese which is helpful for learning is 快乐汉语 "Happy Chinese." It's a CCTV show set in Beijing, but it's not political. The show is set up kind of weird where each episode basically stands alone, with a little bit of continuing story line in the background.

    I already watched this video but I came back to thank you. I actually started watching/listening to Peppa Pig. I am currently on HSK3 and living in China, but I still find it very useful to watch it. It's rather simple, but still makes me exit my comfort zone and learn more words snd everyday expressions.
    Excellent suggestion, thank you once again!

      How long have you been learning Chinese or it took you to get to HSK 3? I am only about 2 months into learning. I currently use Hello Chinese and Busuu. Both are great app but I take my time because I technically can't rush or I will forget or miss words. Can you tell me about your learning journey and what your steps were? And any tips as well? Thanks.

    • @LilMissDragoness
      @LilMissDragoness 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kenishiagreen I think it took me a year to get to HSK3, I was studying by myself at first (HSK1 and 2) and I wasn't too serious, to be honest. But it took me another year to cover HSK3 and HSK4, with a tutor, still living in China. I have to mention I used the quarantine to speed up my HSK3 a bit.

    • @LilMissDragoness
      @LilMissDragoness 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@kenishiagreen oh, also, I exposed myself to Chinese a lot - graded readers, TV dramas such as The Untamed, Put your head on my shoulder, Moonshine and Valentine... And I watched Peppa Pig as well, just like Grace suggested. I also bought some of my favorite books in Chinese, with pinyin, such as The Little Prince. But, honestly, my teacher really helped a lot.

    • @kenishiagreen
      @kenishiagreen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LilMissDragoness That's great. I think I'll be purchasing some chinese books as well. Simple ones. I am only 2 months into learning chinese. I am pretty consistent but sometimes I do miss a day or two. But I write write and write words that I learn so I don't forget and it's a lot of review for me. I need to wait some more before jumping into classes because I am still a fresh beginner and I'm told to give myself a few months of learning before speaking with a native. I took one class so far. Got nervous and forgot a good amount haha. But I am starting to feel more confident as I continue. Thank you for your reply.

    One of my personal goals is to be able to follow along and understand the fantasy dramas like Eternal Love and Ashes of Love. However, these are often very advanced! One time a whole dialogue consisted of two characters more or less throwing proverbs/chengyu and uncommon phrases at each other for about five minutes, needless to say this requires a high level to fully comprehend...

Also as The Greatest Dancer (I watch it on tencent video website) is based on dancing it's also easier to follow without subs ❤️ also the show which helped me the most with Mandarin in terms of learning new vocabulary and sentences us the Chinese survival show Youth With You, it really made me progress both listening comprehension and learning new vocabulary wise 💜 C-pop helped a lot to progress too 😊

    I learned turkish the same way so it's an approved idea.

      Recommend you the latest popular and awarded Taiwanese TV show “someday or one day想見你“。Though you would have to download a Korean app called “rakiten Viki” to watch it, it has both English and Chinese subtitle.

    A series on BTV 12ish years ago that was really excellent for the most part, was called 学汉语到北京。Each episode featured a short skit performed by 留学生 at 北京大学. The skit concentrated on explaining a particular common colloquial phrase. I would love to find that series somewhere!

    Could you make a video about traditional radicals compared to simplified ones and how meaning or context changes according to that?

    • @michaelfernando5672
      @michaelfernando5672 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Late to the reply. They're the same, both in meanings and contexts. The difference would be where it is used. Traditionals form is used in Taiwan, while Simplified form is used in the rest of the world.

    Yes! All the people learning Japnese have plenty of Japanese anime etc. to improve their skills, for Chinese I really had no idea. Thank you and greetings from Croatia.

    • @tsukiyamakinoshita7286
      @tsukiyamakinoshita7286 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course Chinese have a lot of anime. In fact, if you pay attention for a couple of year ( I don't know exactly since when) Japan always made an adaptation from Chinese anime. The recent ones is The Untamed ( this is a very popular drama ). Maybe you never realize it because Japan always change their ost even the character name into their own.
      You know the difference between Japanese and Chinese anime if you look at the way they draw the character or from the storyline or story's pace.

    I've only been learning a month or so, but I turned on Devil Punisher recently and was so excited when I understood some (admittedly basic) phrases 😂
    Simpler examples are probably a better choice at my level though 😅
    So I guess I'm learning what Peppa Pig is soon
