  • Chinese Hack - How to learn Characters
    Learning Chinese characters is quite challenging; nevertheless, it’ll be easier if you know how Chinese characters were created and having good learning strategies.
    Therefore, in this video, I gave a short introduction to Chinese characters and also talked about how to learn them (where to start, learning methods and learning steps).
    Learning Chinese characters don’t have a shortcut, but still, if having the right learning methods and steps will definitely save you a lot of time.
    Hope you enjoy today’s video!

    Reading a Chinese character is like recognizing your friend's face.

    Your video is so accurate. I struggle far more with the tones than with the characters. For some reason they are easy to write for me and they help me to remember the sound and the meaning of the words more than the zhuyin or pinyin.
    I love your channel and your explanations are fantastic. And I absolute adore you are one of the few who uses traditional characters which I'm learning.

Most of them have the same character, and same meanings, but different read. Something that could help you to remember many character like chinese kanji are by reading.

    I’m amazed that you described the way Chinese people learn their characters. I remember about the type of character structures too like left/right , up/down , enclosed , etc. When I switched to learning Japanese it made learning kanji much easier because they use a similar system (dare I say, identical).
    It’s been almost 20 years since my last mandarin lesson and today I couldn’t even remember how to write the character for “noodle”

    There's an ancient Sumerian legend about the tower of E-ana. The Sumerians wanted to build a tower to honor the goddess Inanna but the people of Sumer spoke different languages so it was difficult for them to all work together to perform the task. They begged the gods to grant them the ability to understand each other's language but it seemed as though the gods had denied this request. According to the story, they devised a written language that everyone could understand. It's a lot more plausible than the Biblical version that had everyone speaking the same language until God decided he didn't want people working together.

    Is it standard in China to make children write with their right hand when they're first learning? As a left handed person, I've been told that I wouldn't be able to write Chinese characters correctly. I do everything on the computer anyway, so I've been relying on pinyin input, so maybe it doesn't matter. But I still wonder if there are any lefties out there trying to write in Chinese and if it's especially challenging.

    • @graemep7729
      @graemep7729 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I write Japanese. Still use lots of characters. No issue. For me, its easier than English because the curves require lots of pushing and moving one's hand to the right, but characters are vertical and horizontal lines, so its quite easy to not move the hand as much and drawing straighter lines is faster. TLDR- Its 100% possible and not too hard for me personally. Best of luck Forrest!

    4:03 The strok order of "我" you showed was wrong. The "dot" is the last stroke. You can search "我字的笔顺", and you will find all the other sources, including dictionary about the order. All the dots in the upper right corner of a character are the last stroke of the character of the component of the character.
    This shows that the stoke order is important in writing, but not important in typing. Nowadays, most people type instead of write - that's why people forget the strokes...
