Emperor not involved in the "negative stuff"? At one point all but Ihsahn were imprisoned. Faust for murder, Samoth for church burning and Tchort for burglary and grave defilement...
When you're right, you're right, Jay. We really had to tip toe around this issue because we don't want to celebrate criminality but we also want to give praise to some of the bands that really changed how we look at music, and Emperor is one of those bands.
all of thorns, first 4 albums from Satyricon, DHG has grown on me, Ved Beuns Ende, In the Woods - heart of the ages, first 2 Isengard albums, Wolfs lair Abyss - Mayhem
Yes! Thanks for covering the traditional BM scene! I can't really point out any albums, but I'm definitely a fan of Arcturus, Borknagar.... and Ihsahn. Seriously, Ihsahn is a brilliant monster, once I dove into some of their early lyrics, I was really blown away by the cosmic focus. Ulver!! Yes, even their modern stuff is incredible in it's own right.
From Norway (sorry Sigh) my favorites would be: 5. Darkthrone - Under a Funeral Moon 4. Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas 3. Windir - 1184 2. Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk 1. Immortal - At the Heart of Winter Randomly found the channel and I am surprised by the quality for a relatively small channel! Keep it up!
Fantastic list guys and theme! Love your picks and here are mine: Immortal - Diabolical Fullmoon ... masterpiece of an album for me Darkthrone - A blaze in the northern... a must have in any BM collection Satyricon - I like both old and new the mother earth era dominates tho Mayhem - de mysteriis dom... a black metal gem, the only mayhem album i enjoy sadly Dimmu borgir - stormblast the original version rules! Burzum - filosofem - this album gives me chills and is soooo spooky to me:) yet i love it Go for Poland next time! We have so many fantastic and worth promoting bm bands, both known and more obscure! ;) Christ Agony, Evilfeast, Odraza, Furia, Deus Mortem, Holy Death, Wedrujacy Wiatr to name just a few out of sooo many...
SOLID list right there! We should totally do a Polish oriented theme, thanks for the idea! We have Sweden next on our list but Poland would be a real treat to dive into. We'll definitely consider that.
Yeah! that's from their stand-out song "Du nordavind" off their first full length. Great track. Their riffs are insane, and they do some really wild stuff with timing. Hellhammer totally carries the madness. th-cam.com/video/FUT1uIuL6pw/w-d-xo.html
Great video dudes, your triggering so many metal heads with these kind of vids Haha I love it! I'm a neutral when it comes to the genre but for me if it's got good production and memorable harmonic riffs I'm all in 🤘🍺🤘
I love Enslaved, Emperor, and Ulver. Not just the best Norweigan black metal, but some of the best black metal period. Also, unpopular opinion: Burzum and Immortal are the most over-rated black metal bands not just out of Norway, but of all time.
Giving Borknagar a listen, I struggle with black metal as I find the vocals kinda ruin the music and it can be quite samey, but Borknagar seem to be quite the opposite to 1 dimensional and vocally they're quite stunning going on their latest album 😳 Need to listen to more As for my Norwegian tastes it's, Dimmu Borgir all the way 👍
Not the biggest fan of 2nd Wave Norwegian Black Metal but 10 these bands I do love and these are my favorites from them 10 Immortal-Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism 9 Borknagar-Empiricism 8 Darkthrone-Transilvanian Hunger 7 Kampfar-Mellom Skogkledde Aaser 6 Taake-Noregs Vaapen 5 Arcturus-Sham Mirrors 4 Windir-Arntor 3 Ulver-Bergtatt 2 Emperor-Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk 1 Enslaved-Frost
For me it is Blackend: The Black Metal Compilation Volume 1. I had been listening to death metal and got this album on a whim in 19966/1997. This album changed me and I jumped down the rabbit hold that is black metal and left death metal behind for good. The Norwegian bands on this are amazing and the usual greats, although Burzum and Darkthrone are glaring omissions. It was a real chore tracking down the albums at that time because they weren't carried in local stores and finding online wasn't really a thing back then. Emperor - I Am the Black Wizards & Cosmic Keys to My Creations and Time Mayhem - Pagan Fears Satyricon - Walk the Path of Sorrow Gorgoroth - Crushing the Scepter Enslaved - Slaget I Skogen Brotendor Immortal - Pure Holocaust
In The Woods... - HEart of the Ages Ved Buens Ende - Written in Waters Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk Dodheimsgard - 666 International Thorns - Thorns Satyricon - Rebel Extravaganza Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernale Burzum - Filosofem
This channel is too good! I commented on your Dark Soul's video a few months back, my band The Dark Alamorte dropped our newest album today! Influenced by post ambient black metal and modern metal, I think you guys would absolutely love it! I'd love to link it over to y'all, cheers |m|
Winter Thrice is the best album ever made. Absolute masterpiece. Still wouldn't include it in essential Norwegian black metal album list. My picks, in no particular order. A Blaze in the Northern Sky (Darkthrone) De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (Mayhem) In the Nightside Eclipse (Emperor) Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (Burzum)
1. Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss 2. Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger 3. Ulver - Bergtatt 4. Satyricon - The Shadowthrone 5. Whoredom Rife - Dommedagskvad Btw; "In 1994, Samoth was sentenced to 16 months in prison for burning the Skjold Church in Vindafjord" "Faust claimed the man began to make strong sexual advances towards him. Faust then stabbed the man to death, kicking him in the head afterward to ensure that he was dead."
Borknagar's first album is absolutely spectacular. Otherwise, 27 years later, I think the black metal world is still in shock about how good "Transylvanian Hunger" is - I know I am...
I feel like I have nothing to add to y'all's list. I always kinda poo-poo'd Old Man's Child because I considered them to be inferior to Dimmu Borgir. But, I will admit it; I was wrong. I've been revisiting IN DEFIANCE OF EXISTENCE and it's an absolutely phenomenal album. Like, fucking amazing synth work, amazing melodies, and Barker just fucking kills it!
Honestly, if we're pitting DEATH CULT ARMAGEDDON vs. IN DEFIANCE OF EXISTENCE, I may have to vote for the latter. And that's saying something since the former holds a lot of nostalgia for me, being one of the first Black Metal albums I ever heard.
Nah. I respect what they did for black metal but I don’t really go for the bands into the church burnings and other controversial crap. Plus look at the thumb. Pretty obvious we didn’t pick them.
@@forgemastermetal Then you dont appreciate the genre, what a stupid mentality. You aren't gonna respect the founders, then wtf are you doing listening to a genre whos roots are based off hatred and isolation, no safe space trash, im tired of the poser black metal hipsters pussyfying the genre.
Your editing just keeps getting better and better. Great work.
🎬🎞 Thanks, homie!
Great video. Now it is time to do a revisit on some of those albums ... I sense the need to make a playlist 🤘😈
Do ittttttttttt!!

Not exactly black metal but the "I" album by Abbath is incredible
Absolutely! He's an awesome song writer.

Agreed. Those 3 are the absolute best for Norwegian Black Metal. Especially with Ulver and Enslaved being some of my favorite bands of all time.
Also agree with Burzum being incredibly BORING. BurzCum though👀👀👀
@@blackwaterrust476 BurzCum gonna top every list in due time #HailDicktits
Not gonna lie, you had me in the first half. 😂 Burzum is whatevs tho. Their ambient stuff is cool. - Ben
+1 To the Ulver reference. I really love their stuff, even their less blackened but equally awesome newer stuff!

Mayhem - Pagan Fears
Satyricon - Walk the Path of Sorrow
Gorgoroth - Crushing the Scepter
Enslaved - Slaget I Skogen Brotendor

In The Woods... - HEart of the Ages
Ved Buens Ende - Written in Waters
Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk

A Blaze in the Northern Sky (Darkthrone)
De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (Mayhem)
In the Nightside Eclipse (Emperor)
Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (Burzum)
EMPEROR - In the Nightside Eclipse .
What about Satyricon????
They would fit nicely on here. Which album would you nominate?
@@forgemastermetal Nemesis Divina. Best Song - Mother North. I also think AETERNUS should be noticed
1. Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
2. Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger

5. Whoredom Rife - Dommedagskvad

I wonder how strong those advances on Faust really were. The guy he cut up probably just needed a hug.

No Dodheimsgard!? I'd argue Kronet til konge is just as influential as any 90's underground album
That’s a band I totally forgot about tbh! What a unique sound a vocal style.
Any Norwegic list without Burzum lacks any credibility whatsoever ....it just smacks of self-righteous shit .
You should cry about it.
You need to read some basic BM history! Emperor has both church burners and murderers among the line up!!!
Ihsahn has since distanced himself from those events.
