Such an emotional rollercoaster and is a journey with each listen. For some death doom goodness, anything from Hooded Menace is top notch! Cheers!

Couldn't have a much better list for these. Draconian and MDB are gods of any metal genre, to me. Disc 3 of Swallow the Sun's Songs of the North is some great funereal doom. More honorable mentions are Hanging Garden - I Am Become, Decembre Noir - A Discouraged Believer, Red Moon Architect -Emptiness Weighs the Most. Of course you have to have Tiamat - Clouds and Theatre of Tragedy - Self-titled and Velvet Darkness.

Now, for me Mournful Congregation for funeral, melodic has to be Daylight Dies, doom death would be MDB but I'll throw down Decomposed only full length. Tristania first album for gothic and then blackened doom has to be the band Soulborn from the Netherlands. 🤘🍺🤘
I originally believed that doom was really sludge and funeral; and so for a while I just figured all doom was that.... until I discovered Metal Forge Reviews. You had first mentioned the death-doom genre to me, and my mind was cracked open. I suppose it was Deathwhite's album from last year, which I absolutely loved; I had no idea that was considered doom. Another one of my doom bands is the psychedelic doom band Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard.
We’re definitely going to dive into the psychedelic and stoner end on the next part of this series. Doom is a great genre, so much room for activities!

Think you went with the wrong Shape of Despair album😜. Angels of Distress - the funeral doom GOAT. Unpopular opinion - My Dying Bride’s best album is The Dreadful Hours... Gothic doom - I’d go for Katatonia. All of it. Brave Murder Day out-paradiselost-ed Paradise Lost. What they evolved into from there was unique and unparalleled. Blackened doom: Dolorian - When All the Laughter Had Gone. What a fucking album that is. If ever there was an album to put on whilst lying alone at night in a room devoid of light, this is it... Nortt and Totalselfhatred also very good blackened doom. Funeral - From These Wounds. Could go in several categories but needs to be mentioned for all its gothic/funeral/death doom majesty. Spent so much time with this album when it came out. Amazing album. Ironically, the bands you mentioned in the title are all worth of checking out - Grief, Despair and especially Loss (Cut Up, Depressed and Alone is superb, as are their other records).
Dude you’ve got so many gems in here thanks for sharing! Katatonia is a great pick for gothic doom, I find myself revisiting Paradise Lost more though for gothic doom. Love Katatonia though, you really can’t go wrong with most of their stuff. I haven’t heard Dolorian! Excited to check that out.
